We picked up Great Wall last night for my parents and ourselves. The pick up time had a super quick turnaround (15 mins,) which was great for a Saturday night. The menu was pretty extensive. We ended up ordering three chicken dishes: the generals chicken, sesame chicken, and cashew chicken. In addition, we also picked up one order of chicken, fried rice, one order of steamed vegetables, two orders of crab Rangoon's, and two orders of hot and sour soup. The chicken dishes came with steamed or fried rice on the side. Everything was well packaged and really tasty. I always appreciate when the chicken is still crispy and the sauce isn't too gelatinous. I will say it was definitely a lot of food and we have leftovers, but the $90 price tag felt a little steep for Chinese food. I do think I would return if I was in the area, and I'm curious to try their buffet. read more

This restaurant is in a small strip mall. It was very clean with a friendly staff. By Florida standards the buffet items were very, very few in number. But that was offset by the quality of the items offered...all were very tasty. Was in the area so thought I would try Great Wall. I ordered jalapeño chicken. First I will say the flavor was amazing. But I just wish it would have been cooked a tad longer. Little more char on the chicken and veggies. Chicken was a bit texture weird. But I still enjoyed my dish. My egg drop soup was very delicious. We've done take out from here at least a half dozen times now, and I was surprised I had not done a review yet. Every time we visit, the food is done extremely fast and is always fresh still when we arrive home. Our latest visit I got my favorite, the peanut butter chicken and fried rice. Great Wall has one of the best peanut butter chickens I've had and it's because of their sauce. I recommend asking for a little extra when ordering because it's that good! My wife tried a new one this time, the Hawaiian chicken with fried rice and hot and sour soup. The sauce was light and tangy, what I would have expected for Hawaiian flavors. It was really tasty if you're looking for a tangy flavor with your Chinese food! The soup this particular time my wife said was spicier than usual, but still good. Their sauces are incredibly flavorful and irresistible, and their protein and rice are both cooked very well. Servers are very nice. Portions are huge. Food itself is either too salty or too sweet to me. I usually like American Chinese, but not so much at this place. Being Chinese and coming from California where there is tons of great Chinese food, I was worried I wouldn't find good Chinese food in this part of the country. I was surprised by how much I liked this place for dinner. I've now been twice for dinner and once for lunch buffet. The prices are low to fair, portions large, and staff very friendly. I tried the family combo for dinner which comes with soup, egg roll, crab rangoon, rice or fried rice, and an entree. I had the egg drop soup, which was surprisingly good. I think it needed some white pepper, but they didn't have any available on the table. Other than that though, it was good. The egg roll is fine, but nothing special, it needs more meat and seasoning. I never like crab rangoons, so I don't dock them on theirs. Their fried rice isn't great. It's fairly bland and dry and needs a lot more seasoning and moisture. But their sweet and sour chicken was great. Typically, Chinese places will fry the chicken somewhat crispy but the chicken gets dried out. Not the case here, The chicken was moist inside but super crispy outside. The sweet and sour sauce is standard, but with the perfectly cooked chicken it was a great entree, and a generous portion too. I also had the General Tso chicken, which was also really good. It had a little spice and nice orange flavor. I'd prefer a little spicier, but it's still very tasty. The sesame chicken was also pretty good with a nice salt level. As for their lunch buffet, for about $8 including a drink after tax it's a good deal. However, I definitely think their dinner is better when things are made fresh to order in a small batch rather than in large batches. I recommend giving this place a try for dinner sometime. The portions are huge if you get the large size and will feed you for multiple meals, or feed multiple people. Don't just come for lunch buffet and make a judgment without trying dinner. read more

Food was edible but not what we were expecting. Ordered Mongolian Beef and it was nothing like what you get at other Chinese places. Too many unnecessary fillers like corn and chest nuts. This place has wonderful food! I'd recommend the garlic chicken (without celery - if you don't like crunch with your chinese). It can certainly seem pricy at this restaurant, but you get quite a bit of food. They bring out a full plate and a separate bowl of rice that will certainly leave you feeling full on your way out. They're waiting staff is friendly, sweet, and normally keeps up on the tables well. We've been there more than a dozen times and only one or twice have they neglected us, to a degree. Also, if you come in within a hour or less of closing, we've found out they don't give you the option to eat in, just "to go," which is understandable, just disappointing the first time. If you call in and say you want Almond Chicken or whatever -- if you don't specify the size they put you down for the LARGE - which like 10 bucks (11.50 if it's a speciality) -and it's too much food for one person. -also other places let you substitute lo mein instead of fried rice - here? you get charged the 3.00 ala carte menu price for lo-mein -- and then you DON'T GET THE RICE. There are many Chinese buffets in the Omaha area but, honestly, they offer sub par versions of the standard entrees. I had kind of given up on any memorable Chinese buffet experience until I discovered The Great Wall in Elkhorn. While its selections are definitely limited compared to other "mega" Chinese buffets, every food I sampled was hot and cooked properly: the sesame chicken was actually fried and crunchy, the general's chicken sauce robust and not watered down, and the cashew chicken was rich. The egg rolls, dumplings, crab rangoon and hot and sour soup were all fresh and properly flavored and tasty. It cost around $10 for the buffet with drink. The place is modest in size and the ambience is standard "fast and casual" like you would expect for a strip mall location but I will commend the waitress who bussed and wiped down tables constantly during my stay. The place felt clean. Again, if you are looking for something cheaper or more variety, look elsewhere, but if you want a buffet where the food actually tastes as good as cooked to order, try The Great Wall. read more

My husband had the sweet and sour pork...same thing as the chicken. I ordered the egg drop soup. Honestly, it was thick with grease -- threw it out! On another visit for carry out, my wife found a bristle from a wire brush for cleaning the woks or grill in our egg fu yung and I found part of a plastic wrapper from something in my bite of egg fu yung. Don't be fooled by the outside appearance, the food is delicious. Some of the best orange chicken and vegetable loe mein I've had around these parts. Even the crab rangoons were tasty and freshly made. Give this place a chance. If dining in isn't your thing then ordering to go is just as good.
