A friend of mine had never been to HuHot, and as I've gone several times and always had good food and never found cleanliness issues, we met there for lunch. Because I've gone before, I now know what veggies and proteins I want in my bowl, and I've finally found the perfect combination of sauces to give the heat and spice I like. I did my best to guide my friend along in her sauce choices, but while we both agreed the food was cooked perfectly on the griddle, she thought her sauces got lost in the cooking process, or perhaps she was too much of a novice to get it right the first time. So while I greatly enjoyed my lunch, she didn't, and said she'd likely stick to Chinese restaurants where she can use tabletop sauces and chili flakes to season her food as she desires. But the main dining option is make your own stir fry and the cooks grill it. Grab a bowl and go through a buffet line adding ingredients into the bowl. You can make as many as you want. Pro tip use two bowls for your first trip. It's about the size of a normal large entree. I've been to HuHot 3 times. It's good quality from my experiences. There's either a really long wait for a table, or the place is dead empty. I love HuHot. It's my favorite restaurant. The best one by far is the Lake Delton location. We went to the West Allis location & had to wait a little longer to get seated, because it looked like there was only 1 server which is absolutely no problem, I get it. It was just the actual food part that upset us. They were cooking it on such a high temp that my pad tai noodles were a little chewy & the sauce kinda just burnt to the grill (I use 6-9 ladles). There was pork or beef in the chicken spot the second time I went up too. The staff were really nice. We've been here a few times. This time just wasn't the best. read more

Best food we've had in a long time. Huhot has fast and friendly service. The main feature of HuHot is a Mongolian Stir-Fry buffet where you fill a bowl with a variety of refrigerated and frozen noodles, meats, and vegetables, all of your choice, and then you add ladles of different sauces ranging from sweet and savory to hot and fiery. Then you hand your customized bowl to the grill chefs, who operate a donut-shaped iron grill and cook your food while you watch. The grill chefs are great, and often do cool tricks with their spatulas like flipping them in the air and catching them - the kids loved it. They even have a gong by the grillers tip jar you can ring! Lots of fun while you wait for your food to cook. All in all, HuHot was very pleasant and inviting and well worth the money. Hu Hot is my family's favorite restaurant but this location seems to be going downhill. They are consistently out of items across the food barr to make your bowl. Always out of 1 or more meats and usually out of a sauce or other items. They do not stop people from using two bowls which dramatically slows down service for other guests. Went out to this establishment with friends on Friday. I've been here before but wasn't always fond of the build your own entree experience they provide. The biggest reason is that I could never get the sauces right, and you can only experiment so many times on a visit. So I did a little research on their app and found that they have a very large collection of recipes guiding you through the taste experience. I thought this might work well given my poor choices in the past. And it did until I tried to put one together and half way through adding the sauces I discovered either the sauce container was empty or the sauce described wasn't even available. This visit did work out better than my previous experiences, so more than likely I would feel confident that I could get a tasty dish using the recipes as a guide. As far as service, we did arrive slightly before their evening rush started, but even when it did we were still able to get our dishes cooked up quickly. Our server was attentive and friendly. One negative on our visit, and this isn't unusual here, the buffet carts where you put your meal together are pretty messy, especially the saucing area. Not sure how it could be improved since customers are responsible for creating the mess. The glass protective hood does make it difficult to raise the sauce ladles high enough to add it to your dish, thus the many spills. Might be a turn off for some, but doesn't impact the food itself. The counters with the food options were clean and well stocked. After you pour several ladles of sauce (they have lots of options and even suggestions of combinations to try) in your bowl you get in line and they pour your food on a hot grill. I enjoyed watching them cook right in front of me and the grillmasters were very friendly and professional. It is all you can eat, so you can't bring leftovers which is kind of a bummer. The food is good but the service is horrible. We've been there 4 times to this location and each time the staff has been horrible. The floor under the tables are always dirty. The food is also not restocked very often but when it is it's good. One of the times we were there the manger was on the grill. She was talking to another employee about things that should NOT be talked about in front of customers. We felt very offended even though she wasn't talking directly to us. It's embarrassing to admit having eaten here as an Asian American, but my ha'ole friend loves these places. Here's how to enjoy a visit here, and I do actually recommend you visit here. Do not even begin to imagine you are visiting an Asian restaurant. There's nothing Asian about this place, unless you're also going to consider Italian American restaurants as Asian since pasta was invented by the Chinese. They invented the printing press, toilet paper, the sit down toilet, gun powder, rocket science, charcoal, and bureaucracy as well so by that standard, all restaurants are "Asian." There's nothing authentically Mongolian here. If you can get that clear, and it's not hard because they don't really make the pretense of being authentic, and there's no racist stereotyping like you find in those ethnocentric "Hibachi Japanese" Benihana genre places. What you will find is a very clean restaurant that at the height of Covid 19 and in a high denier suburb is practicing very safe distancing, masking, glove wearing, and cleaning procedures. You pick the ingredients for your American stir fry, and I repeat, don't make the mistake of thinking there's anything authentically Asian (which is a whole continent and a race category, not a singular ethnic group) about the ingredients or sauces, wearing gloves, and at a safe distance you take it to a young White grill chef who embellishes with a little fancy White diner style showmanship on a distant cousin of the Teppan grill. Upon request you can get a bowl of plain steamed white rice, and I've had worse at pseudo-Asian "fusion" restaurants. Don't make the mistake of ordering green tea, you'll get a mug of hot water and a Lipton tea bag, ugh. The food is pretty good if you're not expecting authentic Cantonese or Mongolian, and the service is excellent for a restaurant in this price range. If you fill your bowl with pasta/rice (carbs!), there isn't a lot of room for all the other inexpensive type veggies. Of course you can go back-- again and again. And it will be filling. But it won't be quality. The kids may think it's fun (a time or two), but I would prefer a generous lunch of better quality for less money at a Chinese restaurant. read more

Took my family for a great,fun time. Told my family the food is wonderful and service is great! I was so sad everything I told them blew up in my face! Waitress was wonderful and wanted to be attentive but for as busy as she was it was hard d for her! Example of all that was upsetting for that late afternoon! 1.No food in the containers. 2. I do believe there was more food around the containers and on the floor. 3.The sauce station was shameful it was so sticky you could not place your bowl down. The floor was also very upsetting it was gross! I did see one worker trying to do filling of containers at the pace of a turtle. I do think he just had enough trying to do all alone. This is one of our favorite family places to go to, however things have been getting a bit negative with some of the cooking staff, it almost seems like they hate their job or just don't want to be there, the energy feels different and they handle the spatulas like they weight tons. We even heard this one guy complaining to the others of how they put him on the schedule on Sunday and not respecting his religion. So why not get another job? Obviously he's not happy there. It's my first time at the Milwaukee location. I eat regularly in Green Bay or Appleton. The service by the waitresses was very attentive and friendly. Let's start off with this place is da bomb. It is an all you can eat buffet but hold on you make your own food. You start out with 3 thin sliced pork, beef or chicken. Then you advance to noodles and other daily meats or fish that change. Next you pick all of your vegetables like bamboo shoots, mushrooms, pineapple, water chestnuts among other Asian style veggies. Next you have around 18 or more different sauces to add to your mix. Next you go to the big circular hibachi style cooking surface. A cook takes your bowl and cooks it for you. Typically takes 5 to 10 min to cook. You get your plate of food and enjoy. My tip is take 2 bowls to start. Fill one with meat and the other with veggies. If you're in a hurry, but want some options, I think this place is decent. The first time we ate here was within the first two weeks it opened. My husband and I wanted something quick and close so we stopped in. Both times the service was super friendly and they come and explain to you the process and how to most easily get the most stuff in your bowl. Meat & Veggies, and then carb choice on top. 5-6 ladles of sauce. The coconut sauce is my favorite because I like things a little sweet. The bowls to stuff your things in (prior to the grill) are small, so don't just throw your stuff in there or you might not have enough room to get everything you want. When we took our food to the grill the staff was really friendly and chatted us up. It took about 5-6 minutes to get our food, then we grabbed chopsticks and headed back to our table. Each meal will come with a soup, salad, and choice of rice (white or brown). The first time I ate there I didn't get a choice of these things, but the second time I had egg drop soup and my counterpart had brown rice. The egg drop soup was nice, not too salty. I eat my food a little 'bland' according to others (minimal salt) so some people won't like it unless they add more salt of their own. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the brown rice - It was kind of hard and I think it should have been a fluffier rice - and the fact that only two people can't sit in booths when there were 5-6 available. I had to update my review. We've come back twice since my original 2-star rating about 9 months ago. Both of these times we were impressed! Concept - Hu-Hot is a sit down restaurant that requires you to get up and get your food. Interesting! I'll focus on our most recent visit. We arrived in the heat of the Saturday night dinner rush. Armed with the lurking memory of a 2-star experience nearly a year ago and fresh off of an excellent visit less than a month ago, I was both skeptical and excited at the same time. We were quickly greeted by a host and looking around, the place was pretty busy. In fact, the only open tables were messy and appeared to be recently vacated. The host looked around, promised us only a short wait, and then took upon himself to go assist other staff in cleaning off a table for us. Awesome start!! Then...he ends up being our waiter, also. He immediately took our drink order and invited us to head up to the setup for their stir-fry grill. The setup is buffet-like. You grab a small bowl and fill it with meat, veggies, and sauce and present it to a chef who stir-frys it on a huge donut shaped grill for you. My first visit here, I lacked insight and direction. I struggled with what would make a great dish. I've now found my dish.... I start with a decent amount of yakisoba noodles, throw in a few eggs (which end up scrambled on the grill - shells removed, of course), some spicy sausage and chicken for protein, and then healthy amounts of black beans, corn, celery, jalapeno, and cilantro. Top it off with 4-5 ladles of their "Burn the village BBQ sauce," which is a great mix of sweet and spicy, while not too spicy. After the chef cooks it up, I sprinkle a little bit of sesame seed and crushed red pepper. Boom, perfection! The rest of the family seems to have found their groove here now, also. Even my 8-year olds enjoy the grill bar, experimenting with new veggies and combinations they'd never had before. They also enjoy the theatrics of the chefs tossing grill spatulas around or flipping stir-frys while entertaining the watchers. There are a few things left to desire here. Even in the light of the good food we've gotten in our past two visits, the place needs to be cleaned up quicker as people leave. Seems tables were being left dirty for a long time. Not a good look for any place. Also, they might benefit from a soda station as our waiter could not keep up on drinks either of these visits. We had to get up to get our food, wouldnt bother me to do the same for me drink, and it would save the waiter some time. Probably the biggest knock is the cost. $85 for 3 adults and 2 children is pretty steep for a stir-fry buffet and sodas. Altogether, Hu-Hot has earned back our business. If we'd have had another questionable visit like we did the first time, we'd probably not have come back again. Instead, it's very quickly risen to the near top of our family favorites. read more

My wife, daughter and I walked into Huhot for dinner tonight. This particular restaurant has always been sub-par when compared to the other Huhot's in Wisconsin. Regardless, I figured we'd give it another try, instead of driving an hour to Kenosha or and 1.5 hours to Green Bay. The hostess asked us how many and she said to wait while she cleaned a table. When she came back, a guy walked up (I assume the host) and said "we have a 45 minute wait list, do you want to wait?" This was after the lady cleaned a table for us... They probably had 20 tables and booths that were completely empty, but ok. Take my advice, go to Kenosha, Green Bay, or Oshkosh next time. This place is awful. read more
