The jambalaya is unbelievably good. I've always come here for the ribs and pork, but I found a new love. The food is phenomenal, but I think the recent service is a bit lacking ... which is the reason for the lack of patronage. It appears that all servers are somewhat lacking in their attentiveness to the patrons, checking in, etc., In fact, the last three time there, there is a corner table in the backroom that all the servers sit at and chat. My husband and I have eaten here several times and they have all been very good. Out most recent visit I ordered a burger and my husband had Cajun fettuccine. My burger was absolutely superb. It was cooked to perfection and it is what I call a juicy, drippy, sloppy burger. I had to roll up my sleeves and this is a good thing. Along with my burger I had sweet potato fries with a side of ranch for dipping. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside- again just perfect. My husbands Cajun fettuccine was also delicious. It had andouille sausage, shrimp and the sauce had just enough Cajun seasoning to give it a kick. Delicious and the portion was huge- enough to bring home for another meal. We do enjoy their fish fry. There is a choice of baked or beer battered cod or perch. They serve it with a southwest type of tarter sauce. It's delicious. They usually serve Manhattan clam chowder (tomato based) as opposed to New England which most places serve. Also they do not have calamari on the appetizer menu and that is one of our favs. The atmosphere is nice there are 2 dining rooms- one with a fireplace and they have a large outdoor patio in back. One minus is the parking. They have parking in the back but if your older or disabled it's very difficult to access the restaurant because the parking lot is in the back down a steep hill. You have to either climb the hill or take the long stairs that lead to the patio. We usually try to park at one of the closed businesses next door or across the street. I placed an online takeout order through Silver Spur's website this afternoon at 04:10 pm. Apparently, after receiving an order confirmation the restaurant didn't see my order. I called them because of the incorrect ready, scheduled pick-up time. The whole experience couldn't of been worse. The restaurant's employees had said I'd have to call Door Dash (their 3rd party online ordering vendor). Uh... no. How is this my responsibility? Luckily, I was just able to cancel the food order online. The Silver Spur employee had never called me back as promised. The poorer spoken English here was also a factor. I really wonder how they've stayed in business thus far? Oh well, time to find a new BBQ place. read more

One of the worst restaurants I've been to in a while. The staff was very nice, but the food was really bad. My pulled pork was really dry, the Jack bites were smothered in a flavorless bbq sauce, and the onion straws were so greasy. My wife got the fish fry and it came with some sauce (not tarter) that was blegh, and potato pancakes that were soggy. She also got a brandy old fashioned that was disgusting. Tasted more like a spiced brandy punch (but worse). The only redeeming part of the meal was a Budweiser for $3.50. read more

We have gone to this establishment several times, each time hoping that the service will be better. Well, this last visit proved that it has not improved at all. We were the only customers in the restaurant at first. It did get busier later on. Unfortunately our server was apparently busy with something else because we had to wait a long, long time for our bill. Two couples who had come in way later than us actually left before we did. The food is only so so & not worth the aggravation. My husband left a 20% tip, which in my opinion, was way too generous for the poor service we received. Had an excellent event here in the private room for my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner. Love the spacious yet cozy room. The bbq buffet could have been a little more stocked for our group as we had to ask to replenish items as they ran out midway through. We went to lunch yesterday at the silver spur in Elm Grove. I ordered a Rueben sandwich, my brother ordered a Philly cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were delicious, ordered the haystack onion rings for a side , delish! Great amount of beers to choose from and the service was excellent! Stopped in once and the food was still good but the last time we stopped the newest owners didn't look like they knew what they were doing. The Silver Spur Texas Smokehouse BBQ is a Tex-Mex restaurant. I've had BBQ all over the country including Memphis and numerous locations in Texas. The Silver Spur is the BEST I've had so far. My wife and I ordered the "Feed Bag" consisting of a full rack of ribs, a whole chicken, a full order of brisket and sides of beans, coleslaw, potato salad, french fries and cornbread muffins. It was HUGE (recommended for 4-5 diners) but provided an opportunity to sample a wide variety of the BBQ menu. Everything was delicious! We came home with leftovers for three meals. Went there a few weeks ago and had the same experience I had the time before.. I ordered a combo of ribs and turkey, a couple beers, and bread. Service was great. We sat on the patio, and our server was friendly, fast, and knowledgeable. The bread we got was good. My wife and sister ordered nachos as their entrees, and they were large portions, but just ok in ingredients/flavor. Here's why I gave the 2 star rating.. Any time a place advertises itself as a BBQ restaurant and can't get THAT part right, that's bad. My smoked turkey was ok, but the ribs were TERRIBLY overdone. The outer "skin" was black, the meat was cold and tough, and because they were so overdone, the flavor just wasn't there. Cooking ribs requires a slow and low technique, and these ribs were expose to a lot of char. I can even make better ribs without a big fancy smoker. Unfortunate too, because every other aspect of Silver Spur (service, drink selection, side items) is good. You GOTTA get the BBQ part right. read more

Gave this place a try as we like bbq. Hardly anybody was there, bad sign! Outdoor patio, weird 70's music playing, mood lights from Costco with several burned out. Went with brisket sandwich. Bun nice brioche, brisket revealed no smoked flavor, no smoke ring and consisted of small pieces. Usually one would expect slices from the meat, not a bunch of broken pieces. Flavor was MIA, a sad imposter of real bbq. Onion strings were overcooked. The other selection was a "guacamole " chicken breast which had a quarter-sized dollop of guacamole and a glop of cheese. You know that grey area between fast food and a sit-down restaurant? This is it. Not sure what that means for steak, but it's casual and economical. We were recommended the daily special (steak and shrimp) which we decided to get. The price point was reasonable and the quality of meat was as expected, but the shrimp was tough and we were under the impression the special came with soup (it didn't). The veggies and potatoes exceeded my expectations and were full of flavor, but the steak was very bland and left a lot to be desired. The youngest in our group ordered off the kids menu and ate half of her food, so that's always a plus! The bar and dining area are separate which is nice if you're visiting with family. The two ribs seemed to have been sitting for sometime as they looked dry. The pulled pork needed addl sauce and the juicy Q was okay. The portions of pork and brisket were small. Didn't seem to justify the price difference from a two meat combo. One of my associates did a two meat combo platter and seemed to have more food than I had. The service was prompt and attentive. Met 3 girlfriends at Silver Spur prior to a play at the Sunset Playhouse on Wednesday July 24th. Perfect night to sit on the patio for our arrival at 5:30pm (play wasn't until 7:30p) Our server (Mary Beth) had a great personality and was very nice, but we quickly realized she was the only server for the patio that filled up quickly (at least 12 tables out there). With that said, the service was not favorable given her time commitment to so many tables. It took 25 minutes to get our drinks, of which we only ordered drinks once because of the slow service. We ordered our food as soon as our drinks were delivered and the wait for that ended up to be an hour (food arrived at 7p and we wolfed it down) Again, Mary Beth was friendly and kind and we all felt it was not her fault, as she was over loaded for hours. My friend and I were visiting friends in West Allis and decided to take a little detour to grab some desserts from Sweet Tooth, which is across the street. Our drive up had taken a little longer than anticipated and we were hungry. There were a few options in the area, but BBQ sounded the best and we decided to check this place out. Service was a bit slow but not terrible. We got our Bloody Marys relatively quickly and they were tasty, though a bit hot. We had to wait a while to order and I found that the Saturday Prime Rib isn't available until 4pm, so I had to make a new choice and waited again for the waitress to return. I was hoping they'd have Rib Tips or something similar. I was given the Fat Jacks as a recommendation. It ended up being a BBQ sandwich and was pretty good but nothing I'd be in a rush to order again. My friend's salad, though large, wasn't as satisfying as she'd have liked and she said if she were hungrier, she'd order a second serving of chicken since there wasn't much. All in all, it was a good meal; I'm just not in a rush to return. However, I am still interested in trying their Prime Rib, so maybe I'll check them out again the next time I go to Sweet Tooth because I'll definitely be going back to that business. read more

Decent BBQ at decent prices. Silver Spur is one of the few (only?) places in the West Suburbs to get BBQ so we stopped in for lunch yesterday. There's a big parking lot in the rear but be aware there is a hill to walk back up to enter (just FYI). Inside, there's lots of Texas/cowboy themed décor which manages to be pretty tasteful. Food-wise the menu centers on BBQ (7-ish meats available) and Tex-Mex favorites. I picked the BBQ turkey which comes with fries or 2 sides (beans, potato salad or coleslaw). I'd like to see mac'n'cheese, greens or some vegetables as options for sides. Anyway, I stuck with fries which were great - I like the battered variety. My turkey was an absolutely huge portion and was still moist and very tasty. Meats are served dry and you add sauce - there's only one option for sauce but I really liked it (and I'm picky on sauce). Their sauce is TX style, so not too sweet, well balanced with just a bit of spice. The Mister had ribs, brisket and chicken and he said it was "ok" and that the ribs were a little overdone. We all agreed the turkey was the best meat option. Service was really good too - we were checked on regularly and drinks were refilled quickly. Prices (for a sit down BBQ place) are very, very reasonable. My plate was a ton of meat and just $12.95. Combos are in the $14-15 range. Even drinks are a decent value - beer seemed expensive in the $5-6 range but cocktails were just $6.50 for something like a Moscow Mule or Margarita. It's no Smoke Shack but if you want reasonably priced BBQ after a day of shopping all the chains on Bluemound Rd, Silver Spur is A-ok. (Also, FYI - Elm Grove uses well water vs. city sewers so your table water will have a "taste". I don't mind that, but the mineral content can lead to some digestive "effects" if you get my drift. I'm kind of in 3.25 stars land with this one but deck/patio on the back was looking really nice and had we got to sit out there (darn u, spring showers!) I'm sure I would have gone with 4. I inexplicably ordered Manhattan clam chowder here. Our waitress was very considerate and came out to make a sure I under stood about manhattan chowder being tomato based and non cream based. I've been here twice both times to go. The first time I ordered the feedbag and the bbq was literally the worst bbq I've ever had. It was awful and inedible. I took photos and sent them in to complain. To their credit not only did they refund me my meal they sent $50 in coupons for me to give them another chance. 1 year later (last week) we gave them a shot again. This time we ordered an assortment of food: Jalapeño poppers Chicken fried steak with gravy Cheese burger with bacon and bbq sauce Cheesesteak sandwich Calimari At least this time the food was edible. But it was still awful. The calimari was frozen and impossible to chew. The poppers were tasty but were definitely frozen. The onion strings on the cheesesteak were fried in old oil. And the chicken in the chicken fried steak had no salt (I guess the salt was in the gravy?). The food was terrible. Both times. I have no idea how this place is still in business. What a great spot located right in downtown Elm Grove. Multiple rooms to dine in and it's easy to space out tables. There is plenty of parking in the back and an out door patio for warmer days. The service has been reliably solid every time we go. Sometimes the place gets a bit noisy in the main dining area, and it's been pretty packed every time we go. I ordered the "Feedbag" which was supposed to consist of of a rack of ribs, a pound of brisket, a whole chicken (which we substituted for another pound of brisket), a large order of fries, and three other large side items. Everything was there, but the brisket was very very old and beyond dry. It was literally not edible. The ribs were dry and aged as well. Not sure if I got the short end of the stick because I placed a to go order, but i ended up having to pay for another dinner because this one was THAT disgusting. The drinks were good, and the mozzarella sticks were as well, but I'm sure that's because it has to be made right then and there. We visited Silver Spur before going to a play at Sunset for a family members birthday. The service wasn't good at all. Our server had a good attitude but barely checked on us and forget several items throughout our meal. Ok... the food. The chicken my boyfriend had was crazy dry. The fish fry (for all being over $15.00) was underwhelming at best. True.. it did come with soup, a choice of potato, coleslaw and applesauce. The soup was probably the best part of the meal. Three small pieces of perch in beer batter (which is totally weird). The potato pancakes were ok. The atmosphere is fun... but the bathrooms were dirty and felt like I was in a dive bar instead of a place charging nearly $20 a plate. Not Very Good Food. Went for business lunch, personally ordered the brisket and turkey combo. Others had combos of brisket and chicken. My brisket was very dry, I'm thinking it was sitting around way too long -brisket in my opinion should not need sauce, it should be juicy enough on it's own. The turkey was worse, first it's not even real turkey rather some sort of processed roll that they (I guess smoke). It was tasteless and rubbery. I should have sent it back as I'm on a low sodium diet and any processed meat is really loaded with it. I opted not to eat it instead. I was eying the chicken in envy but to those who ordered it, it was inedible. This isn't the same Silver Spur that was on Greenfield avenue, that place was authentic and really good. I had business in the area on Saturday and was absolutely in love with this little strip as I drove through. I passed a few bars, a Chocolate Factory and then inhaled the sweet, seductive scent of bbq. I turned around and parked by the Silver Spur and went in for lunch. They are said to have a wonderful patio out back, but it was a little chilly so I sat at the bar in the front of the restaurant. The bar has an extensive liquor selection from brandys to absinthes to margaritas and beer. Frank, the owner and bartender at the time was quick to offer a drink. I tried their homemade margarita and was impressed--nice fresh lime flavor. I was interested in their new absinthe behind the bar and Frank was generous enough to let me try a healthy pour for free. SO good and I would definitely be interested to try what they come up with on the cocktail front for that. They are closed on Sundays, so there is no brunch available, but they do have a good bloody mary! I wanted to eat the meats, but of note they have chili, sandwiches, salads etc as well. I got a rib platter which was half rack (full available as well) and a side. I got the onion strings as a side as he recommended them. They do have cornbread muffins which would have been nice to be included with the meal, but I didn't order a side. They also had soup, potato salad, etc - I would have loved a veggie option like beans or carrots, but there was none. My food came quickly. The meat was served dry, as a good smoked meat should in my opinion, and they served it with a housemade bbq sauce (recipe original to the first owner before the first location burned down.) The ribs had a ton of meat on them and literally fell off the bone--I used the sauce sparingly as I prefer a spicier version and this was rather sweet. The onion strings came with a chiptole mayo to dip, but I ate them plain. All in all, I would return here if not only for the great service a-la Frank and the delicious drinks/meats. It's tough to find a quality BBQ joint, and I think the Silver Spur is close to something great. Unfortunately, they didn't go above and beyond with their meal. The menu showed a lot of great choices, so I felt the need to do a combination, trying the Juicy Q, Pulled Pork and Ribs. They don't put the BBQ sauce on the meat directly, that way you can enjoy the meat on it's own first. Unfortunately, what I was hoping to be the best part was the worst. The ribs were dry, I think it really needed to be served with the sauce on it already. I like my ribs tender, that was not the experience I had. The highlight of that meal was the pulled pork. I think I could go there for lunch and enjoy a wonderful pulled pork sandwich. The other weird thing was, I ordered a salad in addition to the meal, because it wasn't an option with the meal I chose. The waitress couldn't figure out when I wanted the salad, because it wasn't with the meal based on their menu. Trying to explain that the salad should come between the appetizers and the entree seemed like something they would of gone over in training. Heck, I've never worked in a restaurant, and I know this.
