i have been waiting to come to hui lau shan since its grand opening back in march but because of covid the plans had to be delayed for quite some time. this is a perfect spot for any mango lover on a hot day (or any day really). the drinks are so refreshing and they even have other desserts but i usually always go for their mango drinks. pomelo & mango with sago - my boyfriend got this drink as his first time coming here and he enjoyed it. i tried a couple of sips of his and i think this is one of the most classic drinks that my family and i get when we go to hong kong. there's a reason why its their most popular drink but it is quite pricy! mango & coconut juice with aloe jelly - i always got this as a kid and had to get it again today. i think the blend of the aloe gives it a lot more texture and the fresh mangos blend so well with the coconut juice. i usually mix everything together to try to get a nice blend of all the flavors. my second favorite is either mango & coconut with sago or mango & coconut juice with crystal jelly. price - normal boba/drink spots charge up towards $5-$6 per drink which is similar to the prices here besides their more special items. we got the regular sizes so the pomelo & mango with sago was $7 and the mango & coconut juice with aloe jelly was $4.95 price range: $4.95 - $7.95. there's a 16 oz, 18 oz and 22 oz for some of their drinks. implementations during covid - there's a QR code to scan where you order and pay. your orders are made right away and they call your name. it's a small shop and they cover the lids with stickers where the straw would usually go (to ensure there's no contamination) if you like mango this is your place to go. they have desserts that are more traditional HK style (like meatfresh) but i have never tried it and would definitely want to try it when we can sit down again. overall, go get a refreshing drink here !! read more

I was so excited to see Hui Lau Shan available for delivery on doordash as I've been wanting to try this since seeing it in Irvine. Here's what I ordered: Most popular mango bowl with mochi balls Mango smoothie with mango jelly (I can pass on this next time) Mango mochi - Decent but not extraordinarily something I would crave as I'm not a huge fan of coconut shavings on top Mango cake- soft and pillowy. Would definitely order again. My favorite was the mango mochi balls in the largest size. This is the perfect dessert during summertime to opt instead of having an acai bowl, very filling and you won't feel on a sugar overload. read more

In a place with dozens of Asian dessert shops, Hui Lau Shan ranks at my very top. My partner says it is as good as anything she had in Hung Kong or Taiwan-- probably because this chain started in Hong Kong and this is one of a few US locations. Since discovering it I have gone way too often. Their drinks are excellent, the mango chewy balls are incredible, and I've had some other random things like mango pancake/crepes, coconut cream with stuff, and dessert rice that were all very fun to try. If it's your first time with these kinds of desserts, just get what they list as the most popular- mango chewy balls, mango pomelo sago drink, coconut mango drink, and so on. Our replacement for boba! Our current go-to dessert spot (yes even when it's super cold out!) because of the fresh blended fruit and their weekly deals. We always get the mango chewy ball and a few drinks, our favorites are probably the red dragonfruit icy and the D6 mango & coconut juice with aloe jelly (tastes like pandan!). I'm normally not a desserts person but I'm a big fan of their mango chewy ball, particularly their chewy balls. I can't find anything like it anywhere else. They have a regular version, jumbo version, or you can just order chewy balls as a topping. The jumbo one has mango pudding on the bottom which also adds a nice texture to the dessert. The mango is also very fresh and satisfying, I enjoy it when it's both sweet or tarty. Their self ordering kiosk is very easy to use and straightforward. I was in LA a few weeks ago and visited a Hui Lau Shan there. The mango drink really reminded me of those I had in Hong Kong many years ago and when I learned there was a Hui Lau Shan in Berkeley I had to stop by to get another of the yummy mango drink. However, the mango drinks my friends and I got had limited mango and mango purée. There was an abundance of icy coconut milk in our drinks and if they were supposed to be coconut milk drinks then that would have been fine. However, these are mango drinks and I feel like they skimped on the most important ingredient, mango! One of my friends wanted something warm instead of an icy drink and they recommended her the mango pancakes. The pancake was just a thin crepe wrapped around whipped cream and a tiny dollop of orangey jam which could be mango purée. There was no mango taste and all whipped cream. Not sure how the cold pancakes from the fridge fits the category of something warm. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this location given how stingy they were with the mango. I'll be looking forward to trying out the Hui Lau shan in Cupertino. read more

As a mango lover, when I heard there was a new mango dessert spot in Berkeley, I already knew i was going to love it...and I wasn't wrong! An all mango inspired dessert menu is really my dream come true so I really can't complain about any of them. I personally LOVE the Mango Romance, since you get to try a little sample platter of mango mochi, mango chewy ball, and a mango sorbet with fresh mango added. I loved the mango mochi so much, I ordered an extra side of mango mochi too! Amazing!! If you are a mango lover you have to try this place! My go to is the D7 drink which is a perfect mixture of coconut and mango.

Shared the pomelo and mango with sago with two friends and it was plenty because it was sweet. I'd never had pomelo or sago before so that was pretty interesting. Couldn't really taste the pomelo but the mango ice cream and the coconut in there were nice. Wasn't too heavy either which is great! If I could afford this, I would come back everyday! The mango is so ripe and delicious served up in a variety of ways. we got the mango mochi which was so soft and fresh with a piece of mango inside. Also, the mango with coconut jelly, two mango sherbet like things with mochi. Their speciality is mango so of course you have to get a mango drink. I tried the mango coconut something ., and it was so refreshing , even in winter. I went to the original Hui Lau Shan in Hong Kong and absolutely loved it, so I was super excited to see they had opened a location in Berkeley as well! We came mid-afternoon on a weekend and it was pretty empty. My boyfriend and I ordered one Mango Chewy Ball to split and it was just the right amount for a post-lunch dessert. I was worried the mangoes would be too tart since they're not in season right now but they're pretty sweet -- and not in a drenched-in-syrup kind of way. The mochi balls were chewy and a little sweet, but the overall dessert wasn't too sweet which I really liked. This hit the spot perfectly and I'll definitely be coming back when I'm in the area again! My only gripe was that I wish they had more indoor seating; their current setup is a single table and a couple seats along the wall, so even though there were only ~5 people inside we struggled to find a place to eat our food. read more

I was pretty excited to try this place because I saw it on social media, but I wasn't too impressed. Ordered the mango pancake & mango mochi. Overall, it was just okay. Probably wouldn't order these items again if I came back. We did get lucky with street parking, and the service was extremely fast (the mochi & pancake were already sitting out in the display case). The mango romance was a good taste tester for different desserts if you have a hard time choosing just one thing to order. The customer service was very friendly, quick, and efficient. My friend and I decided to stop by for a quick desert after dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. When looking at the Mango Romance on the menu it seemed fairly large, so we decided to share it. Surprisingly it wasn't a huge portion as I expected. It was certainly enough for me to finish on my own it was that good. The first one we tried was the mango sort of ice sorbet with chewy mochi balls and fresh mango pieces. This one was my personal favorite I loved the consistency of the mochi and the sorbet was very refreshing on a hot day. The mango mochi with fresh slices of mango was also very amazing. The mochi consistency was very fresh and the mango filling wasn't to overpowering. The clear jelly lacked any excitement due to the jelly being tasteless and not as sweet as expected. The ice cream on top saved it. The durian cakes were so so good this is a definite must try. The outside layer was very nice and thin and the inside was a cool durian type mouse texture.
