Emailed this facility to see if anyone had turned in our lost dog. A beautiful mixed breed - made it clear that Chewy looks like a Wolf. An extremely rude person named Linda responded to my email - "a dog can not tell you its name". Linda, as I mentioned in the email - he looks like a wolf? His name is Chewy if someone finds him - you should know working at the Human Society that it helps immensely if you come across a lost pet and know a pet's name - especially one that looks like a Wolf! No need to be rude. This is difficult enough. We called your organization for help. read more

We adopted our dog about 5 1/2 years ago. My husband found the perfect dog on petfinder.com so we drove up to Arlington to meet her. She was 3 months old yellow lab/akita mix. She was so cute and spunky little pup! She came home with us a few weeks later after she is fixed and a lady came to our house to check and see if we are ready for a dog, so as the house. We were quite surprised how detailed they were. Now I think about it and it should be so. This farm is a really nice place for dogs. No tiny fenced indoor place. Dogs can run around in a big fenced land. This lady is organizing by herself (I think) and she's really caring. I hope that people adopt pets. Please don't buy pets from pet shops, or puppy mills. Dogs are healthier if they are mixed. I think its' nonsense if someone only want certain breed. Is that for the looks? Each dogs have different personality and there are really nice pit bulls, and aggressive labs. It's all up to us how we train them. There are tons of animals up for adoption and there are many of them who are killed each day, but still we want to create more dogs at puppy mills? I'm so fortunate to meet my girl who is almost 6 years old now. I can't think of live without her! I hurry home from work each day so that I can take her for walk or park. I want to thank Happypaws for having dogs run freely and take care of them really well until they find a new home. read more

When little Sara got sick at a time when we couldn't afford a vet, it was Happypaws that got her an appointment with a vet. As repayment for their kindness, we did some volunteer work at the shelter. All the animals are well cared for and some dedicated volunteers attend to all their needs. While Happypaws has many unfunded projects, they have managed to keep the facility maintained with the welfare of the animals formost in mind. There was a recent post suggesting Happypaws is a "money machine" for the operators. The author of that post is very mistaken and must have an undisclosed agenda. As an animal lover, a vet assistant in my youth, a horse and dog owner, and as a businessman, I can say with some certainty that Happypaws is doing the best they can within the limits of their funding. I definately recommend interested people consider a donation to help Happypaws continue their good work. read more

This shelter is fishy to me,... I called about a dog in the shelter, actually ready to drive out and pick her up. The woman spoke to me on the phone, asked if I had a fenced yard and if I had any cats, I replied yes to both, she explained to me that the policy is that they do not adopt dogs to people with cats because there were too many complaints of the dogs KILLING cats (hmmm). I asked if this was an aggressive dog? And she said no. She said that she just can't go against the "rules" because so many cats are being killed (huh?). That's the most ludicrous thing I have heard in a very long time. I have had cats and dogs living in harmony all my life and was truly shocked by this. I intend to do more research on this "charitable organization" and see what is going on. read more

My experience at the so called Happypaws Farm, in Arlington Washington has been nothing but a nightmare. I was interested in coming to this shelter to adopt a small dog - after having e mail and telephone conversations with "Linda" the Director - it was agreed upon that I drive from my home town, across the border, at my own expense to meet the dog - and subsequently bring her home with me. From the minute I mentioned I was not American, and had previously had Labradors - the Director decided she did not want me to have this dog... I had sent letters of recommendation, met (above and beyond) the requirements of being an incredible dog owner, was more than commited to finance any illness or health care this dog may ever need. With this woman knowing - I purchased new dog beds, toys, a crate, leashes, harnesses, collars, tennis balls, etc - with her blessing that i would arrive the next day at 2pm - with the intention of leaving with the dog. In the process of arranging me to go there - the Director was unable to connect me with the foster person to give me some insight (the foster was apparently too busy to speak to a potential candidate) - but lied to me about the availablilty of the dog. As well, she kept changing her arrangements, and kept asking I re-arrange all of my plans to accomodate the adoption prior to any other candidates getting to her shelter before me (although isn't she suppose to meet ALL potential candidates THEN choose the best one for that particular dog?) This woman claims she cares about the welfare of the dog - yet while claiming she had 3 different parties interested in the dog - she lied to me and at the 11th hour - as I was leaving to virtually pick the dog up - a two hour drive - to say that she didn't feel I was the right fit and had gone ahead and adopted the dog out..never allowing me the chance to meet the dog - she had her mind maid up... I was Canadian, and had previously owned labs - this deemed me unsuitable... eveb though she strung me along for a week into thinking this was a fair meeting I was coming to. She claims to be a Humane Society but - has no clue of vaccine requirements for border crossing, doesn't take anything but cash, changed our meeting place at the very last minute to some bizzare location - that she would hang a sign saying Boeing? (Not Humane Society?)The dog had been living in a cardboard box (what Humane Society doesn't have proper crates?), what Humane Society has no reports on the animals behaviours? and if they did wouldn't share that information with a potential adopter? As I was literally on my way to this Happypaws Farm this women claims to have found a home for this dog - and refused me an opportunity to ever throw my hat in the ring as a potential adopter... I have reported her shelter to the Humane Society of U.S and to the SPCA...she should never have listed her pets on Petfinder - an International website - if she has a problem with non-Americans. This woman should never be the Director of anything - and I would suggest that people report her, as I have - as a fraud. read more

About five years ago, a relative drove me to this shelter. I had my four cats in the car and was very desperate because my small son and I were suddenly homeless after a home owner decided to sell our rental. Our whole lives were upside down. relatives were of no support at all and that made it worse because our little cat family were greatly loved and cherished. When we finally got there, it seemed so dreary, but I had hopes (last hope, no time) that at least I could save them and come for them later. Also, I was so nervous, with limited funds for a new place to live that I didn't offer a donation at the time (stupid me). An angry-looking woman, accompanied by a teen, with no emotion said "no, I can't do anything with them, they're not kittens." I panicked and started pleading that they were only eight months old etc. She added, "yeah, come back tomorrow" and walked away. I then understood the true meaning of the part on the Wizard of Oz, when the wizard tells Dorothy, "come back tomorrow". There wasn't a tomorrow for them, didn't she know? It took everything, just to get my rude father to drive me out there. Exhausted, and in despair, I had no choice, but to leave them at the pound, back in Everett. I blame myself a lot, for not being financially prepared enough, for a smooth transition, in case of an emergency. But also, I feel let down by this shelter, because, not only was the woman there, unwelcoming, the whole place looked, and felt like, walking into a concentration camp. As we walked through, we kept hearing a cat crying out desperately, as if it needed attention, or asking for help/lonely. It was just ignored, and my cats were upset about the loud crying also. It all adds up to a horrible experience that stays with me forever. I had called there just a day before explaining the situation and a woman told me "bring them", and gave me directions. I was turned away in a very cold manner. I called the pound next day, (grieving) and a man told me "well let's see, looks like they all got adopted" I assumed that meant, euthanized. They were beautiful, with long apricot fur and green eyes. read more
