We recently remodeled our kitchen and used Humanity Home & Cabinetry for the kitchen design and cabinetry. In late 2019, the company expanded into a huge new showroom in Santa Rosa. When we started working with them in the spring of 2019, they were in a tiny office with very limited abilities to showcase products. As a result, I had to do a lot of searching on the Internet to vet the cabinetry they were pitching. Not sure whether you can get into the new showroom at the present time due to COVID, but if so, you can easily see the lines they offer right at the showroom. Our designer Jessica Ivie was our primary contact point throughout our kitchen design and remodel. She has an excellent sense of color and is skilled at paint matching and finding colors that complement your existing decor. If you are looking for someone to tell you what to do, she is the designer for you. Jessica is extremely organized and skilled at follow-up, and both are characteristics that are absolutely indispensable in any remodel project. In fact, she provided more oversight for our project than our contractor did. I was a little worried that since Jessica was not a cook that our kitchen design might be lacking, but in fact we have been very happy with the new layout she created for our kitchen. During the COVID shelter-in-place, we've had plenty of time to vet the new layout. We are enjoying the ease of access to previously inaccessible items, the beautiful backsplash, better lighting with under cabinet as well as overhead lights, warm colors, and clean design. The kitchen has gotten a workout and has delivered beyond our expectations. The only really negative aspect of working with HH&C occurred late in the project. Jessica helped us select a gorgeous glass backsplash that was from a brand new backsplash vendor. Much later in the project Jessica also suggested we get matching glass switch plates. Unfortunately, because she had never used a glass switch plate in a previous project, she did not realize that the flat backs of glass switch plates require a different approach to cutting out the openings for the plates in the backsplash or a different installation of the electrical boxes. As a result the glass plates could not be installed flush with the backsplash, which the electrician said would make them likely to break. The resolutions would have been costly that late in the project. Instead we opted to use different switch plates and asked for a refund. We did receive a refund for the plates, but Jessica's boss Kelly Silverstein made it clear she was not happy about giving us a refund. She suggested we wanted a refund because we didn't like the plates instead of acknowledging that HH&C had recommended a product that would not work given what the contractor's expectations for switch plates had been up to that point. We were shocked at her reaction about the refund since the refund amounted to less than 1% of our total purchases from HH&C for cabinets, backsplash, sink, etc. I have no doubt that our contractor invested considerably more in time and labor to rectify the whole switch plate issue than HH&C did in providing us with a small refund. By contrast, our contractor did not charge us any additional fees. It was a shame that we walked away from HH&C with such a bad taste in our mouth right at the end of the project. I would highly recommend Jessica as a designer, but because of our perception of Kelly's lack of customer service, I lowered the number of stars for HH&C from 5 to 4. read more

We liked her so much that we chose to hire HHC to assist us in updating our kitchen and bathrooms. Alison succeeded in solving our design challenges and we are very happy with the results. We were pleasantly surprised how on top of the project Alison was as she looked after the details and informed us of all changes. She proved to really care for our project. Do I really need to pay for a designer? That was my big question going into the remodel. I could make decisions about flooring, cabinet style and hardware and color on my own. The answer turned out to be a resounding, "Yes!" Kelly's depth of knowledge in all of these areas was exceptional. I am thrilled with my remodel and don't think I could have done it without her advice and guidance. She is connected with many vendors and tradespeople which made for seamless transactions. I respect Kelly's eye for color and design. I felt as though I made better choices after I explained what features I wanted and what styles I admired; she could then direct me to samples of my liking. She was very generous with her time and I never felt rushed or that any question or concern was too small. She is also very detail-oriented and I appreciate that. Our family needed a more functional, spacious and open kitchen layout, including much more robust appliances and a walk-in pantry. The original materials were not the quality we wanted for long term use and we had a vision that needed help coming to life. HHC succeeded in creating a spacious and beautiful kitchen design with a breathtaking stone feature wall and a much more functional and matching island. One of our biggest concerns design-wise, was the challenge of our back kitchen wall. We needed to make it work with the corner by moving our range wall back and our designer, Kelly, made it possible. She was goal oriented and professional throughout the entire process. She was flexible incorporating existing reuse materials for the pantry door. I gave this company 1 star because they did show up. However, I wish they hadn't. Justin, the decorator does a good job. It's the company I have a problem with. For a pricey fee they help get your remodel going and get all the products together...again, thank you, Justin. The other half of the hefty fee was for them to be a liason with the contractor throughout the remodel. I got very little for the thousands I spent. The owner was rude and obnoxious to me when I was critical about the lack of service. I told her her attitude was not very customer friendly. She answered quite sarcastically. I will never do business with them again. And if you decide to work with this company, and realize you've been duped, you might want to spread the word. read more

I guess I'll start with the good: our designer, Jessica helped us pick out some very nice finishing touches for our bathroom addition and was overall pleasant to work with. The not so good: nothing about this project went as it should, which can be expected from design and construction projects. This experience, however, was particularly bad... -We expressed early on that we wanted to get going on the project ASAP for very specific reasons. Yet, it was very slow to get going. Jessica personally apologized and said she'd try to get back on track. We completely understood once explained and tried to continue the project with patience. -From the beginning we were promised a binder with the scope of work and all the details needed for our contractors, yet when it was time for the contractors to arrive we never received it. Jessica kept it with her the whole time. I had to scramble through tons of emails and try to get everything printed on our end. -Jessica recommended we wait to order the tile we picked out early on and had based our finishes on until much later in the project. HHC placed the order for us and gave us the ETA, which we coordinated with our tile guy for install. In the days before our tile was scheduled to arrive (about a month after the order was placed), we got an email from Jessica stating that the tile was no longer in stock and we'd need to go with something else. This was blamed on COVID related delays, which would be understandable, but 1: we'd tried to order it much earlier and were told to wait 2: this delayed our project and caused us to put off our tile installer to a date that he could fit us in and 3: I'd just finished furnishing an entire 2-story house with many COVID shipping delays-not any other time had the seller waited to inform me of a back ordered project until the week it was supposed to be delivered. I was always informed immediately and able to plan around the delays. How hard would it have been to notify me at the time of order placement like every other legitimate company?? -The shower door recommended and ordered by HHC was too small for the space and we were stuck with a brand new door that was past it's return date and had to further delay our project while waiting for a new shower door to arrive. -The $700 lacava bathroom sink that HHC ordered to be installed in the custom vanity that they designed was way too big for the space. I had to scramble and ended up with a $100 smaller sink from Lowe's and a lacava sink that I can't use and is also past it's return date. It seems to me that a lot of what we personally took issue with had to do with the company and overall policies at HHC and not Jessica. For example, after all of the issues with the tile, when it did arrive a lot of it was broken. Because our tile guy had to reschedule due to their delivery issues, he wasn't able to inspect it in the time frame needed for a refund. When we realized how much was broken, they basically said it was our problem for not inspecting it sooner. This would have been fine if they hadn't made so many other mistakes along the way. For this project to have gone smoothly, I should have second guessed everything and double checked all of their measurements. I'm pretty sorry that I trusted them to properly do the job I hired them for and not micromanaged every aspect. There were many other issues that I could get into, but will leave it at that. read more

I worked with Jessica for a complete remodel of my home. It was a fun, easy, and exciting experience. Jessica did so much leg-work for me. She listened to what I liked and gave me the perfect choices. Her eye for color coordination is outstanding. I loved her accessibility. Recently, I was referred to Humanity-Home for design work for reconfiguring my back deck. A designer came out to review the job and to draw up the plans. I was told that the rate was $165 per hour, which I thought was a bit steep and then was told the design would take between 5 - 8 hours. I thought it was very expensive but figured if that was the all in, then perhaps it was worth it and I hadn't had any design work before so perhaps that was right. However, when I received my proposal and it not only outline the $165 for design work, it also quoted an additional $165 for any consultation and discussion of materials. I fully believe in paying someone for their work but this is a bit outrageous. I like to support local businesses but not at these rates. read more

We partnered with Kelly and her team at Humanity Home for our recent home remodel which included completely redesigning the kitchen and adding a powder room, a full bath and a separate laundry room. From the start, Kelly and Justin took the time to listen to our vision, understand our needs / wishes and incorporate them into their design recommendations. They quickly came up with a design that re-invented our home and delivered on our vision in a way that maximizes the indoor/outdoor feel and makes the layout just "work". They were very patient with our extended cabinet selection process, working through many options with us to ensure the cabinets were what we truly wanted. Even with all the challenges presented by the pandemic and shelter-in-place, they helped us immensely in choosing finishes, lighting fixtures, tile, and hardware. We often have a strong opinion about design choices in fixtures and finishes and when we made selections on our own, it was great to always have Kelly and Justin to bounce our ideas off of - just in case we had gone off the deep end. And a shout out to Kathe who was there to keep us informed and organized. Kelly also worked very closely and very well with our contractor to facilitate the scheduling and monitor the progress of our remodel. If we ever contemplate a major remodel again, we wouldn't hesitate to choose Humanity Home for our design partner. read more

Kelly can help you create a nice room layout with a floor plan, but if your project involves applying for a building permit, you'll need a "building designer" (not interior designer),an architect or a draftsman to generate the additional documents required for a building permit -- Kelly does not create these documents. Kelly offers personalized design assistance for selecting finishes and amenities (which I did not need), however her rate of $165 an hour is quite steep in my opinion. read more

Perhaps it was because I didn't buy cabinets from Kelly, perhaps it was because my kitchen is an odd shape, but whatever the reason, I cannot recommend this business at any level. Kelly is a very nice person, but came to the house unprepared, and unable to make the CAD program on her computer function. I didn't feel she listened, or heard what I was saying. I had asked for 3 things... don't put the door in this particular location, preserve the sitting area, and include a specific cabinet for a pantry. On the first plan, the door was EXACTLY where I told her not to put it, the island was 12' long intruding into the sitting area, and there was no pantry cabinet. I should have known then that this wasn't going to end well. The fee that I paid was to have included a lighting plan.... this never appeared, nor did an accurate window placement. The final also included a hanging cabinet smack dab in the middle of the 'view' wall of window. Ultimately, my cabinet maker couldn't use the plan at all. It was disappointing to say the least. Kelly is a first class person as well as an incredible designer. Kelly spent most of the past year with us redesigning what was first going to be just our kitchen, then we added the baths and pretty soon we had decided the whole house needed her talents. She was flexible with as little or as much of her involvement as we wanted. My husband and I both love to be creative and she never once squelched our wild ideas.- In fact, she just added to them or tweaked them or once in awhile tried to advise against things that might not work as we had hoped. She was a wonderful team member and prevented us a few costly mistakes as well. Kelly even drove down and met us in San Carlos (south of the SF airport) when we couldn't find the counter stone we wanted for our kitchen in North Bay. As I write this she is even going to meet the sheet metal contractor at our home (we aren't there) for the template and then the install of a desktop in our office. Kelly's creative visions can not be explained as well as experienced. However, one of the ideas that she came up with that still delights us was utilizing a huge wooden mirror we loved as a closet barn door!! It looks so awesome. Kelly is delightful, easy to team with, has integrity and is a person we have the highest regard for. If you are in the market for a designer in Healdsburg or Santa Rosa, I cannot say enough good things about Kelly. read more
