Finally got to try Humbug and it did not disappoint! Classy yet laidback vibes. Creative, whimsical and tasty cocktails. Started with two of their summer beverages, Peach Beach and Weird Fishes. Fun Fact: Weird Fishes is featured in Southern Living magazine

    Delicious craft cocktails!

What a delightful craft cocktail bar! Came here to start out our Saturday night while in town visiting a friend. She says, "I know this cool place," so I said, " Let's go!! I love good craft cocktails, and this joint did not disappoint!. Unassuming from the outside, I was pleasantly surprised by the dark, moody interior! Lots of bar seating so you can watch the team work their magic in the shakers. The menu is inventive, and they execute these unique drinks well. There is something for everyone - from fruity, sweet, smoky, citrus, herby, or boozy. I can't wait to come back and try some more things!

Had a great date night here! Vibe is laid back but intimate. Staff is outstanding! Very friendly, and helped us make great choices. Tried the salt and vinegar martini, which legit tasted like salt and vinegar chips. Enjoyed every single one of our drinks, including the Make It Make Sense, You Mater to Me, and the Peche Punch. Their house seasoned cheez-its were addictive. We are absolutely looking forward to the next visit.

Great Christmas time activity, had to buy tickets in advance which was nice so it wasn't crowded. Super fun drink selections with festive ingredients. They have a drink with homemade thyme foam which was exquisite. They passed around stocking stuffers and we made friends at the bar so a great crowd. Great way to get in the holiday spirit and would definitely go back. Fast and friendly service as well.

SUCH A COOL BAR! The bartenders know what they are talking about and will help talk you through the menu based on what taste you're looking for. The vibe inside gives me an elevated dive bar (not dungy or sticky like a dive bar can be) but with elevated cocktails that are weird but work. The salt and vinegar chip martini is so so so so good that I can't stop talking about it to my friends. The pool table in the back lets you be competitive with friends and there are also some games you can play. I was there for Hula-ween and the decorations were fun and only kinda spooky (I didn't go in one of the bathrooms bc of the doll but that was a me problem lol) I believe the cocktails change monthly so make sure you check them out!

This is a great cocktail bar. Went for an espresso martini but stayed for a couple more. They have a pool table in the back. The parking lot is SMALL. So you might need to park like a couple of blocks away. Definitely a great pregame spot. Or for a casual date

What a great spot! We came on Friday around 6:30 pm and only had to wait ~5 mins to get a table outside. They have 3-4 tables on the deck out back, and it was lovely! The inside is small and intimate with tables/booths, bar seating, and a pool table in the back! For drinks, we both ordered the moon landing was a hoax because they mentioned it wouldn't be on the menu much longer. We both loved it! The drink menu is super unique (lots with coffee!), but they definitely have something for everyone. Service was great, atmosphere was great, drinks were great - will definitely be returning!

This place was great! While it was a bit louder than I normally like, everyone there was super friendly and the drinks were good. When the bartender was too busy, it was awesome that the bar back, Shane, kindly took his time to tell me and my sister about the drinks on the menu. I just went with sparkling wine which is my go-to, but my sister tried some cocktails that she probz wouldn't have tried without Shane. He just provided really kind service and made the ambiance of it all great. Will def come back for another drink soon!

The cutest little cocktail bar in Plaza Midwood!! I think they are moving into a new space soon, but the setup in their current spot and the design inside is so cool. They have a great vibe going and make so many delicious cocktails. I forget the name of my first drink, but it was a yummy gin concoction and then I ended the night with an espresso martini. Definitely check them out, parking behind the building!

Enjoyed my recent visit to Humbug. The staff was super welcoming and attentive. I started with the Renegade, one of their cocktails on the menu. It was absolutely delicious. Great mouth feel and perfectly balanced. I also ordered a New York sour (not on their menu). It wasn't quite layered properly, but the taste was spot on. Overall, great bar! Perfect for a date night or pre-dinner cocktails.

I couldn't love this spot more - it is my FAVORITE cocktail bar in Charlotte. The atmosphere is awesome - cool but casual. Modern with vintage touches. And I love that the team wont let it get overcrowded. They'll let a few more people in than they have chairs - especially since some people will go hang out in the back and play pool - but they won't let it get packed. AND they won't rush you. They want you to have a great time and enjoy the experience from start to finish. Service is super friendly, and the team is very knowledgeable. Let them know what you like and they'll come up with the perfect recommendation for you. The cocktails are creative, unique, and well balanced. From the espresso martini to the milk punch to the delicate hand, I love the drinks here. Do yourself a favor and go check out Humbug.

I loved the old pop up location and am thrilled about the new permanent spot. The drinks are fun and creative, the wine list is awesome, and there are also some beers on tap. The bartenders are super passionate and excited to share their craft with everyone who walks in the door. The space is elegant and cozy at the same time. There's a little lounge-type area with a pool table in the back of the bar and a patio so you can sit outside. This is a place you could take a date, or just pop in after work on the way home.

    Thunder Cat

Located in the Refuge hotel in Plaza Midwood: Humbug is a cozy cocktail bar and it's space is the embodiment of their tagline: Always Delicious, Never Pretentious. I was there this past weekend with a couple of girlfriends. For my first round I ordered the "Thundercat" which consists of Reposado Tequila, Thai tea, fernet-braca, egg white and grated cinnamon. I am convinced that tequila and cinnamon are a match made in heaven. The Thundercat was no exception with the addition of the fernets which built the flavor of the drink and added just enough bitterness to balance the tequila. The Thai tea and egg white added a smoothness to the overall drink: lovely! The French 75, my second round, was light, bright and a nice change from my first round. The owners consistently add new drinks to the menu which is exciting because I am always wondering what they are going to do next! I do appreciate that they have a classic side to their menu so there will always be something for everyone.

The wings were AMAZING, and the sliders were absolutely delicious! They were so good that I devoured them before I even thought to take a picture! Unfortunately, the pierogies were the one disappointment, especially since they were actually the main reason I decided to order from here. They were a bit too greasy for my taste. After eating two, I ended up placing the rest on a paper towel to absorb some of the excess oil, which unfortunately made them less enjoyable. That being said, I would definitely eat at The Degenerate again. I'd happily order the wings and sliders again, but I would probably skip the pierogies next time unless they're one of those dishes that are simply better enjoyed fresh at the restaurant rather than as takeout. Overall, there were definitely more hits than misses, and those sliders and wings alone are worth another visit!

We were there for probably 2ish hours and only got 1 drink (the one outside) as it was so hard to flag down our waitress, etc. I suspect that this place, having recently received awards / gone viral, is a victim of a huge influx of people stopping by. There were several "reserved" tables that remained empty until after we had finished eating, so I think the restaurant could benefit from a better reservation system with more accurate buffer times to accommodate walk-in guests. To avoid the wait, we decided to sit at the bar, and I'm glad we did because the food was amazing. The fried chicken and waffles were perfectly seasoned, and the waffle had a unique texture and flavor that reminded me of a combination of a traditional waffle and a soft pretzel. The cheesy potato cake was absolutely delicious. The fruit bowl was also good, but I wish they had been a little more generous with the blueberry pudding. The shrimp and grits came with large tomatoes, which may not be for everyone, and my friend felt the dish was lacking grits overall. She didn't feel like she got her money's worth. Would I go back? Absolutely. My meal was delicious, and I can't wait to return and try more of their homemade, fresh dishes. I also think it's great that they partner with local farmers to help curate their menu.

The chicken tenders were soft and tender, with a crispy and well seasoned fried skin. Not too strong, but just enough to really appreciate the chicken. The waffles had this really nice bouncy chew to it, similar to a mochi donut. Really enhanced further by the syrup and amazing texture difference when you get any of the crispy chicken over the waffle. But on the other hand, everything else we ordered and the service while we were there were lacking. We had a reservation for lunch on a Sunday, and were seated very quickly. But then it took a very long time for a waiter to come to us. Once the waiter did arrive, we weren't greeted or introduced, simply just a "know what you want?". On top of that, when asking what was in the quiche of the day and the market rate we got a "idk maybe 14 or 15" and then what we were told was in the quiche was just not true haha. We were told there would be some vegetables and cheese, but ended up with no cheese and a lot of potatoes inside our quiche. The food did come very fast after we ordered so that was a plus. I think the main reason this experience left a bad feeling was because the table next to us had the same waiter and got a completely different experience. The waiter walked them through the menu, told them about the history of the restaurant, and told them a completely different (but this time accurate?) price and contents of the quiche of the day! I'm glad the chicken and waffles were fantastic, but it is sort of hard to enjoy your meal when you see completely different service from your waiter just one table next to you :(
