I called Hummel tire about a flat tire caused by a screw driver I ran over and Wendy picked up the phone. I was looking to purchase a tire because I thought the screwdriver went through the sidewall. Hummel did not have my tire in stock but said come on down and let us look at your repair. Once I arrived they said the damage was still in the tread area and not the sidewall. They removed the tire and inspected the damage, repaired the damage and put my tire back on my truck and put my spare under my truck bed. When everything was said and done about 20 minute had past, and the best thing was there was no charge. I highly recommend this shop to anyone that needs tires or service. they are extremely knowledgeable and fair. read more

Whoever labeled Fortuna "The Friendly City" must've visited Hummel Tire & Wheel. This was hands down the best automotive service experience I've ever had. While passing through the area, I had an emergency flat and called ahead -- they told us to swing by, and as soon as we rolled in, they jumped into action. Not only did they fix the issue quickly and professionally, but they also replaced my spare tire (free of charge) after spotting that it was dangerously aged. Beyond the service, I had a great chat with the owners about their father from Iowa (where I'm from), and the whole interaction turned a near-crisis into a warm memory of our trip. When my tired popped on the way to work, after a nail went through another tire, and when I was looking for a new set of tires for my car I knew right where to go! Just stopped in cause I had a screw in my back tire, haven't been here in years since I moved back and forgot how awesome these guys are. I didn't buy my tires here and they rotated and pulled the screw and patched my tire for free! This isn't normally what I experience at an automotive repair shop. I didn't have an appointment and I just stop to ask when they could get to my truck. They did it right on the spot. They got right on it and figured out the claim based on remaining tread depth and I drove away happily with a new set of tires in a matter of 45 minutes. We were on a trip going north on 101 and were afraid we had a flat but when we got there they checked all of the tire pressures and filled them up - all of the tires were low but they took care of us and refused payment. Taking our rv for a road trip thru Oregon, North and South Cali, had a bit of an issue with our front tire. Costco in Eureka messed up our hubcaps, Firestone tire shop couldn't help us. I had vibrations in the steering wheel at about 60 miles an hour so I stopped by for a diagnosis and cure. Two guys immediately diagnosed the problem as front wheels out of balance, removed the wheels, rebalanced the tires and put them back on in about 10 minutes. and the mechanic said it was no charge. I called asking to see if they had a pair of A/T tires in stock for my Honda CRV, the tires weren't in stock, but they were able to order to set of tires I needed and received next day. The service I received when I arrived was helpful from pretty much any employees that were around at the moment needed for questions and service. I needed tires for my Car. I wanted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires because I have them on another vehicle, and I have found them to perform well. Wendy and Lisa helped get me these tires at a competitive price, and scheduled me to bring my vehicle in right away. My vehicle is not an easy vehicle to install tires on. It has special wheels which are different sizes on the front and rear. They assured me they could handle the job using their specialized tire installation equipment. They were right! The crew did an excellent job installing the new tires and balancing my wheels. I was also able to get an excellent four-wheel alignment performed. What a difference it is to drive my vehicle now. We had a flat 25 minutes south of Fortuna on 101 while on a road trip. Since it was a Goodyear tire, we pulled into Hummel Tires upon seeing the Goodyear sign on their establishment. We are SOOO glad we did! They didn't have the particular size we needed in a Goodyear, but they had a comparable quality tire in another brand which they offered to put on for us quickly. The tire had recently been repaired by a dealership in our hometown and we thought it might be under warranty, but we were desperate to get a tire and keep driving. So we said we were good with that, since there weren't any other Goodyear dealers nearby. The owner, who was so kind and personable, had her technicians put it on for no labor charges, and they were done in about 15-20 minutes! All we paid for was the tire and tax. I am so grateful for good human beings like Ms. Hummel who go above and beyond and who care about the quality of what they are selling and the work they do.
