Curry goat and oxtail large combo with a side of rice and peas, cabbage and fried sweet plantains
    Sophie J.

I saved this spot in my bookmarks and decided to treat myself the other day and I don't regret it! The lady that took my order was nice. In my opinion the prices are not bad at all compared to other Caribbean food spots. They give you a decent amount of meat and sides for the price you pay. I ordered a large combo plate of oxtail/ curry goat with rice and peas. I also got a beef patty with coco bread. Everything was delicious, good flavors, good seasoning, they don't over do it on the salt like other places (low sodium diet), and the side of cabbage and fried sweet plantains hit the spot too! I'm Caribbean and I'm from NYC, so Hummingbird Carryout really made me feel like I was back in Brooklyn. I'm soo glad I found this spot. Definitely recommending and definitely coming back for more!

I saw @charmcitytable post about this being the best Jamaican food in the city so I decided to give it a shot. Jerk chicken, plantains, cabbage, rice & peas, coco bread and brown sugar lemonade...all . The service was friendly and fast. I can't wait to go back and try some other things on the menu. #SupportBlackBusiness

Holy Moly Batman! This place has given me life all up and through and around the corner. Not sure how I happened upon this spot, but upon first notice, I became happy. It reminds me of home. I would say it is fairly easy to spot from the road, as the awning is bright blue...get it, hummingbird.....he he he. There appears to be plenty of street parking. Inside isn't much to look at, one table and a counter to order food. There is a menu on the on a dry erase board. I think some of the items change depending on day. On this day, I tried the stew beef, and oxtail dinners. It has been so hard to find a Caribbean spot that makes good food in thee Baltimore, most places that I try totally miss the mark, as the food is under seasoned, and just.not.right. When I say that the cook stuck her entttiiirrreee foot up in the food, yes Gawd! Everything that I tried, I loved. The brown stew tasted perfect, with just the right amount of potato and pepper and the meat was uber tender. The rice and peas and cabbage were a nice side, I mean I can't say that I have ever had rice and peas. The oxtail, which I'm always leery of trying was divine, and again oh so tender. The dinners themselves were large, even the smaller of the two containers was enough for two. This will be my go to spot when I'm unable to get on home to get my families home made version. Wooop!

This is a late post but this was murder pre-pandemic. The restaurant is probably the best Jamaican food on this side, while I'm not rushing to buy from them every week it was decent...by Baltimore standards. The lady working inside was pleasant also. The place could use some sprucing up but the area is meh...just order, get your food and go...no long ting. I might try them again because as mentioned this the best tasting Jamaican food on this side.

The Curry Shrimp had a very good taste to it. The Curry wasn't over powering, and blended very will with the cabbage. I also liked how the curry had a Subtle heat to it. The cabbage and planteen was also prepared nicely. No issues with this dish. It had the right price, and the right portions. Please be mindful of your environment when visiting this wonderful please to buy authentic Caribbean food.

In sharp contrast to my lackluster review of Montego Bay, Humming Bird gets a standing ovation from my taste buds. Their sign says it all, "home of the best jerk chicken!" That is no exaggeration. The jerk chicken is so good its hard to order anything else but I can also recommend the oxtails and curry shrimp. The food is always perfectly seasoned and spiced. If you can't handle spicy jerk, stick with the curry. They also serve a flaky, crusted beef patty that is totally worth adding to your order. Try anything from the small menu, you will not be disappointed!

The food was so bad...mushy rice and peas, the callaloo was baby food, and the baked chicken was well coated in the store bought sauce. I also sat and waited an extra 30 minutes for beef patties which never came. Adding insult to flavor injury, this place is a hip hop nightclub! Sat there for over an hour and nothing came on but old school hip hop. I asked for my money back and the lady said "I don't know about island food but that's what trini greens look like." I hate bashing minority businesses but this place is disrespectful. Hopefully they improve drastically in order to survive but, for right now, never come here for food. Sorry...and not sorry.

The restaurant is easy to find, with close-by paid parking. I tried the sample plate with curry chicken, white rice, and cabbage. The curry chicken was flavorful and tender -- truly delicious! The cabbage was seasoned just right, adding that authentic Caribbean touch. I was a little surprised to receive white rice instead of rice & peas (which I usually expect with Caribbean dishes), so that was a little disappointing. I was expecting $18 value platter but received a ($15) value platter. It appears it may come alive at night -- with a DJ, happy hour specials, and a lounge vibe. Overall, Caribbean Dynasty offers great flavors, friendly service for a grab a go lunch order .

I tried Yard for the first time last Saturday. I think this place has a lot of potential but…read morethere's some menu items that personally fell flat for me. But my experience as a whole was a good one. First I'll start with the Service, the staff and the owner were great honestly. They were kind and very hospitable. The restaurant itself has a cool set up. The dining area is smaller and more intimate with great lighting, however the back lounge area is a lot larger and there is outdoor seating. So it perfect if you want to eat and then hold a vibe later on. You can do it all in one place. And it's BYOB which is great. Now let's get to the food. For an appetizer we ordered the Scotch kissed Brussels which were delicious. For my entree, I ordered the curry goat. The goat meat was good very well to my surprise, however (and it could've been because it was later in the evening) the bone to goat meat ratio could've been a lot better. I don't want to have to pick apart my meal just to find the goat meat. But because it was good I'll give them a pass. The steamed cabbage and plantain were also very good. The plate would've been nearly perfect and my rice & peas was not undercooked. And it was incredibly bland. It would've also been nice to have the option to swap for white rice. I love rice & peas (when cooked right) but I prefer white rice with my curry goat specifically. Next was the fried red snapper (escovitch). While I did love the presentation, and the fish was cooked well, it was devastatingly bland and the escovitch was not escovitch. It was a tiny garnish of sauteed veggies. I need spicy pickled veggies on my snapper. So you know, there were some winners and some losers but I was intrigued by the full menu and will definitely be returning to try more food. Also the portions are massive, I barely put a dent in my curry goat. I could legit make 3 days worth of meal prep out of one order. So that's a bonus as well.

The line was out the door--even with a reservation, we had to stand outside in the cold. And I'm anemic, so standing out there shivering felt like punishment (at this point, I'm basically an ice sculpture by the door). When we finally got seated, they put us at the table right by the entrance--every time that door opened, a breeze hit me like a slap from Elsa herself . The bar was packed too, which sucked because I would've loved to sit there with my partner and vibe. It was clear they were super short-staffed. No waitress ever came to our table--we had to scan a QR code, order through our phones, and even pay before the food came. Felt more like a fast-casual spot than a nice dinner date. Our drinks took forever and when they finally arrived, they were watered down and weak. By that point we were ready to go, but since we already paid through the mobile menu, we were stuck. It took about 45 more minutes to get our food. By now I couldn't even feel my fingers or toes. But when that food hit the table? Whewww... it slapped ‍ Everything we ordered was chef's kiss. My partner and I both agreed the food was the one saving grace of the entire experience. It was flavorful, fresh, and worth the hype. Just wish we could've actually enjoyed it. We spent a good amount of money and left feeling like we would've been better off just DoorDashing it and eating at home with some Netflix. My partner, who never complains, was genuinely upset about the lack of a server. And I get it--dining out is supposed to be an experience, not just a transaction. So overall... this is a mixed review. Food? 5 stars, no doubt. Experience? 1 star, and I'm being generous. I'll probably try them again on a super slow day (whenever that is), but as far as this visit goes, I'm leaving a 3-star rating--and that's only because the food was so good.
