    Build Your Bowl.

This place is pretty good! I would say the bowls are about 2 servings. It is pretty good for sharing. The staff is really friendly and there is a big seating area.

Amazing mediterranean restaurant and is similar to CAVA. Got a bowl with just about everything in it! My vegan friend got the Earth Burger and enjoyed it! The staff was very generous with portions and was patient as I decided what to get. Have to ask for the free pita that comes with your meal. Inside has limited seating but outside has plenty and is perfect to eat with some good weather.

Lack of consistency across locations. At this location I had to pay extra for the amount of tzatziki I wanted unlike the Ventura location where it is unlimited. I ordered what I usually order and it tastes completely different than my order in Ventura. I have 1600 points and wanted to use them for a free meal but upon paying I realized you can only use the points in Ventura. I wouldn't have gone in if I knew that points couldn't be used and I'd have to pay extra for more than 1 scoop of tzatziki. The actual bowl is also a lot smaller here than in Ventura, kinda seems like they're trying to gyp students. The food at this location is also very dry and rather bland. Thought I'd be getting a free meal but ended up spending $20 on my bowl.

Chipotle's Greek cousin, Caesar. I could write a whole review for this, but I'm sure you get it. You get the vibe. Base options Protein options Hummus options Dressing/topping options All in Mediterranean/Greek theme Try the mushroom shawarma in your bowl. A tad salty, but I LOVE IT. Hey...why does the university never have parking? I'm not from here and I have been to this area just a few times, but no parking ever. Anyway, don't expect parking when you come. Figure it out.

The set up; build-your-own type of deal

FINALLY somewhere I can eat in IV where I feel refreshed and healthy and happy afterwards!! It's an incredible set up, with a build-your-own type of process like Chipotle or Blaze, but for Mediterranean food. I got a bowl (there's a few other options too, ie a wrap) with tons of different sauces and spreads, falafel, garbanzo beans, greens, and lemon chicken. Wow. It definitely wasn't the best Mediterranean food I've ever had, but it was tasty for sure, worth the money, and I was overall just super happy with the meal. It felt clean and yummy and wow. So happy this opened, I'll be back!

Hummus Republic is a great, "fast food" option for healthy options, yet not ideal for the indecisive. So. Many. Options! There's nothing quite more Californian cuisine either given all the vegetable, gluten free and vegan options. How it works: (Picture a Chipotle, Subway or a poke place where you walk along the counter to personalize your meal and get unlimited toppings) - Choose a bowl (comes with a side of pita), wrap or stuffed pita. - Choose your base of cous cous, garbanzo beans, kale, farmer's mix and/or spinach. - Choose your hummus and/or spread. Personally my favorite is the kalamata olive hummus and tzatziki. - Pick a protein. I love their falafels and chicken shawarma. - Top it off with unlimited toppings. - Dig in! I must say that the neon sign selfie station"with "Eat My Balls #HummusRepublicIslaVista" cracks me up each and every time I visit. They offer indoor or outdoor seating. Staff is hit or miss in friendliness and attentiveness but given that this isn't a full table service restaurant I could careless.

I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food and was sooo excited to try this spot! I love visiting Isla Vista (yay UCSB!) and getting to sit on Pardall while eating lunch was so nice. This spot definitely has Chipotle-ordering type of vibes- build your own bowl and look through the window casing to inform the staff of what you want included. The amount of options are endless! So many unique toppings, dressings, hummus varieties, and proteins. You can do multiple of some choices at no extra cost. Plus, you can even get pita on the side to go with a bowl! It was so clean and inviting inside the restaurant. My only feedback is the staff were moving pretty slowly, the line of customers was definitely building, so picking up the pace to get to customers more quickly would be helpful! Otherwise, this was a wonderful experience and I will totally be back!

Wow! I had a craving for pita bread and hummus and this place did not disappoint! Known for customized Mediterranean bowls, they also have a bunch of sides you could make a quick lunch. You choose from a base of greens or rice, then on to the protein, hummus and sauce. This place was filled with students ordering delicious, healthy food. Just a short walk from UCSB, just next door to Freebirds, you fall upon a huge patio. You walk in and choose your bowl as you would at chipotle. I was completely satisfied with harissa and plain hummus with super soft and warm pita bread. I will be back!!

We went in the late evening and they still had a lot of choices available. We were even given a sample taste of one of the protein options.

We arrived on a Friday night and they were kind enough to find us a table without reservation (I would still recommend reserving for the weekend). Customer service A plus. Ambiance was so beautiful, we felt we entered another dimension with the patio seating. We ordered Falafel, Baba Ghannouj Chicken Kabobs and Pita Bread. For a cocktail I had a tequila based one called Standard. Everything was made to perfection and fresh. Timing between entrees was perfectly calculated. We were seated like in a private terrace which we loved.

However, the experience felt a bit underwhelming for such a very expensive price tag. The Food & Drinks: Pita Bread: A disappointment; it lacked the soft, hot moist texture you expect and honestly felt like it came out of a bag. Hummus: Just okay--nothing to write home about. Beef Shawarma: This was the highlight of the meal; it was actually good. Alcohol: Be warned--the markups are intense. They really gouge you on drink prices, so you might want to skip the cocktails. The Experience: The "cool factor" has dipped a bit since they stopped offering hookahs, and since there were no belly dancers during our visit (maybe we were just too early?), the entertainment was lacking. Also, keep in mind that you must be in a large group if you want to snag one of those coveted fire pit tables. The Verdict: Go for the views and the relaxed vibe, but manage your expectations on the value for the price.

Throughout the meal, I kept hearing the same comment from different tables: "This is really, really good food." And it was. The Mediterranean dishes were vibrant and fresh -- not generic or middle-of-the-road, but thoughtfully prepared with balanced flavors and ultra-fresh ingredients. Even our most restrained eaters went back for seconds. Delivery was on time as scheduled. The general manager personally supervised the transfer of the food from transport containers into our serving dishes and offered helpful suggestions on serving layout to improve flow. Presentation and execution were handled professionally, which matters when hosting an event at home. Prior to placing the final order, I studied the menu and placed a preliminary order online to establish a starting point. I reviewed it with my daughter and wife and received their approvals before finalizing. I did have a few questions about overlap among side dishes, spoke with the general manager about it, and finalized the order 30 days before the event with no subsequent changes. That clarity made the rest of the planning straightforward. Their menu reflects flavors and traditions rooted in the Levant region. Mediterranean cuisine lends itself well to buffet service within a defined service window. We would be happy to use Mezza Thyme again for any larger-scale gathering -- or for a great meal at home or in their restaurant on Cota Street downtown. I highly recommend them.

It looked like a cool vibe from the outside, but the whole experience left me super disappointed. When I walked in, the place was empty--just the owner and two staff. No greeting, no welcome, just awkward silence while the owner stayed on the phone trying to fix what sounded like a billing issue. The staff didn't speak much English (which is fine), but there was no real effort to help or explain anything either. Eventually, I got a hookah and a beer--$48.50 for one hookah and one beer. Yeah... nearly $50. No food, no extras. That's wild. Then I was told I had to smoke outside on the back patio, which turned out to be a tiny little corner--maybe 6 by 10 feet--with uncomfortable chairs and a random wood bench. It took 15 minutes to even get the hookah (remember, no one else was there), and when it arrived, it was totally burnt. Overpacked, harsh hits, and I ended up having to scrape it and fix it myself just to get it to smoke right. Wanna know the kicker? You only get three coals. That's it. No refills unless you pay for more. No one checked on us for almost an hour, and when I finally asked for more coals, they said (in broken English and mostly Spanish) that that's all you get unless you pay extra. I've smoked hookah all over the place--three coals is nothing, especially when you're charging $35+. No one came around, no vibe, no music, no nothing. Just me, my burnt hookah, and a beer that wasn't even cold. I really tried to find something redeeming about this place, but nothing hit. The service wasn't there, the product wasn't good, and it honestly felt like I was bothering them just by being there. Bottom line: for $50, you can do way better just about anywhere else--or even at home. Hope they turn it around, but for now, I wouldn't recommend it.
