Full disclosure - I was not in the court room as I reside 1,800 miles from Bakersfield. But I personally selected Underwood Law as our representation based on a lengthy and very positive conversation I initially had with Mr. Underwood. Full details were disclosed and his response was extremely optimistic. We moved forward at the tune of $6,000. The optimism remained steadfast throughout all preparatory conversations with the paralegal making it known that she had never lost a case. On the day of our hearing Mr. Underwood suddenly stated to family that was in attendance that we could easily lose this case. We've no idea what caused this turnaround. Perhaps learning who the sitting judge was, perhaps having read the defendant's statement (we've yet to see this), we do not know. The case was lost in a matter of minutes. Back to Mr. Underwood's call regarding my review - we talked. He felt that I had been misinformed and he said he was going to put together a cover letter outlining the sequence of events, a copy of the petition that was filed on our behalf and finally a copy of the defendant's written response. He asked for a couple of days. In all fairness to Underwood Law, I removed my review pending his side of the story. Ten days later, having heard nothing, I inquired as to the disposition of said documentation. I was told that Ms. Medina was going to prepare the file and mail it out. That was 13 days ago and still crickets. It's a puzzling operation they run. Again - just my experience and my opinion. Dissatisfaction with the service of Underwood Law seems even more reasonable at this point.

I repeatedly asked for updates over several months with the understanding that my court date would be extended at the beginning of April. With zero updates received, I called the courthouse at 8:00 AM on the day of my deadline (today April 7th), only to find out that nothing had been filed on my behalf. I had to handle my own extension to avoid a failure to appear/warrant. Only after I contacted Bob this morning he attempted a last-minute email to the court at 8:31 AM. He claimed he had already made an arrangement, but when I called the court back, they confirmed he had just sent the email and it was still pending. This caused me unnecessary stress and forced me to do the work I specifically hired him for. While he did refund my money after I advised him of California Rule of Professional Conduct 1.4 (Duty to keep client informed), I would not recommend this firm if you are looking for peace of mind or proactive representation. He is a man of faith but does not push it on his clients or friends but is not above asking if you would like to pray before beginning a meeting. If not then he moves on. He is respected by colleagues and opposing attorneys alike. It is obvious that judges on the bench respect him as well which goes to prove that he is honest and has a high moral standard. He wins verdicts but also makes good deals for his clients when they do not want to go to trial. The deals he negotiates are fair and accurate for the filed charges. I think his greatest quality second only to his knowledge of the law down to minor details is that he is a humble man which seems to be a rarity among many who are in this profession.

I was 19 when I got my first DUI. I knew nothing about anything at that age so I just said "no contest" and took the DUI and all the fines and classes that came with it. Years later I ended up getting a second DUI and that's when I sought the help of Mr. Brehmer. He was amazing at what he did but in unfortunate events my life took a turn for the worse and I just stopped communicating with Mr. Brehmer. Fast forward a bit and yet again another DUI. Three of them all before I had turned 30...yikes! I spoke to Jeremy after the last one and he told me I would have to pay again but he would give me a deal. I really felt like he understood me. It took me a while to fix myself but I managed. When I contacted Brehmer law trying to figure out what to do in order to fix things with my cases I spoke to the women in the front and let me tell you what I was not happy with whoever it was at all ( I'm still not but I won't take a star away because of her). Long story short(er) I paid The money and got representation this time from Jared. Mr. Thompson was amazing and after everything I got one DUI COMPLETELY dismissed and the other turned to a "Wet and Reckless". A small fine and 6 week STEPS classes is basically all I got. I was so shocked and can only say Thank you so many times. I definitely recommend this place completely. If after all that your still not sure if it's worth it just go in and read about Jeremy Brehmer . He is pretty bad ass. His accomplishments are amazing and his education goes far beyond passing the BAR exam. I didn't get a whole lot of information on Jared Thompson but speaking with him he did work with the DA and then moved along. He does do other cases beyond DUIs where as Jeremy does only DUI cases.
