I've been going to Humpty Dumpty since I was a kid and although the decor has changed a lot (for the better) the food is still amazing. Having traveled the world in the Military for many years I can say that beyond a shadow of a doubt the "Grinder" sub sandwich at Humpty Dumpty is as good as it gets. A marvelous take on the classic American sub, oven toasted to a crisp perfection and served with a rushed, but heartfelt smile. I have been going here for years, and this used to be one of my favorite spots. Unfortunately, the attitude and level of service I've experienced recently have really gone downhill. My last two interactions have made it unlikely that I'll be going back anytime soon. Example 1: I called at 7:23 p.m. and specifically asked how late they were open because a friend and I wanted to get cheesesteaks. I was told they were open until 8:00 p.m. We arrived at approximately 7:35 p.m., only to be told that the grill had already been turned off and they were no longer serving cheesesteaks. I noticed there was a sign stating that the grill closes at 7:30 p.m., but that information was not mentioned when I called. If I call ahead to ask how late you're open, it seems reasonable to mention that the grill closes well before the actual closing time. Otherwise, saying you're open until 8:00 is pretty misleading when a major portion of the menu is unavailable by 7:35. Example 2: A few days later, I came in with another friend to get food. After ordering, I sat in the chairs and waited. When I saw my food come out from the back to be finished and wrapped, I stood up and walked toward the counter to get ready to pick it up. I had been standing there for less than three seconds when I was abruptly yelled at for being too close to the counter. What made this especially frustrating was watching other customers approach the same counter, stand there, talk, and place orders for considerably longer without receiving the same treatment. Less than 30 seconds later, my food was ready, meaning I had to approach the counter again anyway. If there is a rule about where customers are allowed to stand, that's fine post a simple easy to read sign then just politely ask customers to wait in a particular area. There was absolutely no reason to yell at someone who had simply stood up to collect an order that was visibly being finished. I've supported this place for years, which is why these experiences are so disappointing. Good customer service require only a little clear communication and basic courtesy. Providing that minimal quality of service would have made both situations nonissues. Unfortunately, after being treated this way twice in such a short period of time, I don't have much desire to return anytime soon. read more

Excellent service. And the locals were right: excellent food. I had an Italian sub( heated) with everything but the hots. It was FANTASTIC! Also got a side of fries and they were delicious as well. Nice fresh hand cut fries. My husband got a chicken cheesesteak and he said his was excellent too. Unfortunately we were so hungry and after one bite it was so delicious. We inhaled the food so there's no picture I can say is I was nervous at first because the bread seemed hard when I wrapped it(we got our food to go). However, it wasn't hard. It was just a delicious crusty outside of the bread and a soft delicious roll inside excellent bread for the subs.. only picture I have is of the menu because I was disappointed. There wasn't one already on yelp would highly recommend and will definitely stop on our way by again. read more

I have been going to this place for a very very long time. It has changed hands and ownership several times throughout the years. It has withstood many changes inside and most of all the change in area. Through the decades it has gotten surrounded by many other places to eat. They have all come and gone and this place remains standing strong. That should say something and speak volumes. The menu hasn't changed much and that is good, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Delicious and satisfying. We ordered a cheesesteak and a turkey sub. Both were very good. One of the things that makes these hoagies so tasty is the homemade hot peppers. Stopped here for the first time while visiting family in the area, and absolutely loved it. Clean place, fast and attentive service, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a Cosmo that was good enough to please even my father, who's from the area and something of a sub snob. The hot peppers were particularly delicious and practically made the sandwich. I noticed that they were also selling jars of the peppers, and though we didn't buy any this time, I would definitely consider it if I ever go back. read more
