The only bummer for me was the fact it says it's a "Chinese restaurant " when in fact it's just a carry out. And also no lunch special on Saturdays (Mon-Fri Only) Otherwise everything else check out for me. The prices are fair. The food quantity is fulfilling. The Quality was great. I ordered the chicken wings: They were crunchy as I liked them. Needed more flavor (salt/pepper) but still good. The Mumbo sauce is that classic Redish/pink sauce that I love. The egg rolls had a light & fresh taste. They were , crunchy & most of all not greasy! The shrimp was a nice small/medium. The general Taos Chicken was very good. I ordered mines with all white meat ($1.50 extra) the white rice was cooked perfectly. Ohh and most of all I loved the customer service. I was greeted nicely. The people had a nice attitude. It's killing me because I don't wanna give a bad review because she was so nice on the phone but I called in for a pick up. Ordered 4 steak & cheese egg rolls & I got one that was biggggg like the size of a sandwich & indeed once I bit into it, it was a steak & cheese sandwich in an egg roll. It included sauce but I didn't want sauce I just wanted a regular steak & cheese egg roll withOUTT all the lettuce & other things in the sandwich. My order was a little short this particular night but once I called the restaurant and let them know they very quickly corrected it! The food had a very rich color, the abundance and the goodness was so authentic to the the best in town reputation: had enough for lunch and dinner. the aroma and the flavors compared to most recent places i have ordered within the area....better taste, better ingredients and better efficency in delivery. I had the chicken with broccoli and fried rice, egg rolls, and chicken wings with something new to me mumba sauce..very tasty! It arrived with steam indicating it was fresh and hot like it is suppose to be when arriving and not driven around for a long period of time and the broccoli was cooked just right. I know now that I do not have to settle for ordinary when I had this experience of extraordinary. The egg rolls didnt taste unusual...they tasted just like they was suppose to. Their establishment also dont try to do too many foods like pizza, subs etc. hello; you other chinese places are trying to do too much. Yum! Ok so I was told to beware of Chinese food in the area- I should start by saying that... Been in the DC Area for a short time, and work in Suitland, MD so I decided to finally give this place a try. I have tried other places out in NE DC- was not impressed. FINALLY a decent Chinese option. The wonton soup was simple, but flavorful; just how I like it. Added some noodled that came with it (fried crispy noodles) it was delicious. The lo-mein may have a little bit too much oil... BUT not like I've had at places that ruin food with too much oil. I'll ask that light oil be used next time. As for the restaurant its self, I did carryout. I was impressed by the smell! Stay away from this place!!!!! My office came here for lunch. There were multiple different lunch dishes ordered and all of them were horrible. The waitress attempted to take our menus prior to taking our order. She left and later came back to take our order. Someone from the kitchen brought our food and set it on the end of the table not telling us what it was or asking whose food it was. The waitress didn't check on us or anything. I don't normally do the "corry out", I prefer to make myself but today was one of those days at work and I just had a taste for some msg. Ordered over the phone with what sounded like a child. That's cool. Teach them the family business. That was pretty much my interaction with the staff other than picking up and paying. No problems there. I had the shrimp and broccoli. It was more like broccoli with a lil bit of shrimp. Good thing I like broccoli and won't mind eating just it for leftovers. Could have used more sauce too. Overall, not the best but not the worst. I have enjoyed hunan east since I moved to district heights in 2008. It has the cleanest interior and eating area (and I'm going to assume the kitchen is clean as well :-0) than any carry out in this area. The cashiers are very friendly and I love the fact that they are a close nit family. Cleanliness and friendliness are next to great tasting foodliness (the Foodie Trinity). Now to the food. It's not bad at all for the area. I enjoy it and if you explore some of the other things on the menu besides the (general tso's and orange chicken) like the duck and egg foo young, then you will be pleasantly surprised about how decent the food is. The chicken wings aren't bad either. The spring rolls are a wonderful addition to a fat filled crave night when you order some lo mein or egg foo young. I would recommend getting all sauces on the side - as with many AmChin restaurants, the food is drowned in sauces. They have no problem putting the sauce in the side. I'd also recommend getting fried rice without added soy sauce. I promise, it tastes just the same. One of my favorite meals is the shrimp and brocolli with the sauce on the side. I use to come to Hunan a while ago when I worked from home, because their food was great and they were convenient. I haven't been in a while, I say a little over a year. Last night I decided after a long day at work, I would order take out dinner. I picked it up, got it home, opened my Pepper Steak, and was shocked. My dish was more onion than anything else, hardly any steak, and it was drenched in this thick brown gravy, which I had to pour out just to see what was underneath. Needless to say it was not good at all; rather disgusting and I threw it out. I don't know what happened to them over the year, but after this experience, I will not be returning to Hunan. read more

We got the sweet and sour chicken platter, the orange chicken platter and the Crab rangoon appetizer.  Everything looked and tasted fresh. The Crab Rangoon was very tasty too. This review applies to their delivery service only. We have not eaten at the restaurant. Let me start with one word: "Yuk". Now I will explain with a few more words. We ordered crab Rangoon, egg drop soup, chicken lo mein, and Szechuan chicken. The egg drop soup and crab Rangoon were acceptable, Szechuan chicken was passable, but the chicken lo mein was terrible. It had a strange taste, not a spice I was familiar with. Maybe you will like it, but "yuk". If you disagree, and like the food, be forewarned that delivery time was over an hour. Review is based on their delivery service; have not dined in at the restaurant. The menu is vast and the portions are huge. We ordered Crab Rangoon, Egg Drop Soup, Chicken lo Mein, and Szechuan Chicken. The egg drop soup and crab Rangoon were acceptable, my guy said chicken lo mein was terrible. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken "hot"- it was neither particularly warm temp wise or spicy. Way more of this meal went into the garbage disposal than into us. For those that like it - enjoy, as for me and my guy - it was quite underwhelming. Note: If you decide to try it - the delivery time was over an hour, the food was nearly cold and the delivery driver honked the horn and called us trying to get us to come to his vehicle to get the food - if I wanted curb service, I'd have gone through a drive thru! We ordered a chicken fried rice, which they didn't have on the menu but the lady was nice enough to make it for us. We also ordered a general Tso's chicken, shrimp hunan. The food was very good! Quality is going way down. I recently got food poisoning from their beef and broccoli. It was pretty brutal...quite embarrassing. So bad that I had to call my ex to come and save me. I survived, but wont be ordering from them anymore. I got three meals that night. Ate the wings day 1, but tossed the general tso's because the meat was overcooked (or reheated) to rocks per usual. I was a regular customer of this restaurant. The food is usually very good but the customer service truly sucks!!! I ordered delivery of a combination meal with shrimp (no shrimp was included) and chicken and vegetable soup (no chicken was included) I called the restaurant to resolve and was told to bring the food back for them to replace. Having just come from the hospital going to a restaurant was not my plan. The lady on the phone continued to put me on hold and finally decided to re-deliver the food offering me a 2-hour delivery time. When I mentioned that I would bring the food back but expected a refund she agreed to redeliver the food after putting me on hold 5 times and coming back and asking the questions over and over again and confirming with the chef that he did indeed include shrimp but would re-do the soup. I usually would give this restaurant high remarks but I will not be ordering food from them again. I don't know why carry outs in predominately black neighborhoods feel like they can treat their customers poorly. read more

This restaurant ripped me off! I ordered through Uber Eats and accidentally pushed the cancel button instead of the order button. Two minutes later I completed my repeat order and sent it. I was charged twice by Uber Eats. I contacted Uber Eats to get one of the charges refunded or credited and they refused because the restaurant toolUber Eats they prepared both orders! Only one order was delivered and it is hard to believe that they prepared 2 back to back orders for delivery to the same address without phoning or texting to check on the duplication. Food is always good but delivery is SUPER SLOW. I love about 20 minute from the restaurant and it takes over an hour for delivery.

When I first began going to this restaurant the food was great, however, I never noticed how bad the customer service was. Recently, when I called to place an order the lady was rude on the phone and was yelling at me, but I decided to let it go. Today after I called and ordered my food she was extremely rude like she was in a hurry to get off the phone. When I asked her to repeat my order she had a problem with it and said it too fast where I couldn't really understand. Then she gave me the total and said bye.....as if I was done with my conversation. I was heading to pick up the food and decided that I couldn't patron a restaurant where the owner is extremely rude and doesn't care about the customer. Therefore, I called and cancelled the order and she asked me what did I order. I told her you took my phone number, therefore you can look it up. She said the chef was already preparing it and I told her I'm still canceling. She then told me don't call her back. Nobody should have to deal with someone like her. The absolute worst customer service! I ordered from GrubHub. When the delivery guy arrived, he called me and instead of coming to the door he told me I had to come to his car to get my food. I was appalled to say the least! How are you a delivery service and you don't even get out of your car?! This place only received one star as I am big on customer service and I don't feel like I need to come out of my house to get my food if I am paying a delivery fee. The food was good though.
