Their food is great. My faves include Shrimp Mai fun, Tofu with veggies fried Hunan style, and Hot and sour soup.

I love the lunch specials and that their meats aren't chewy like at other places. The service is also very fast.

The plastic fork melted. The Styrofoam clamshell serving dish was crappy. The dining room is filled with storage boxes. The only drinks are aluminum cans in the cooler and had to ask for a thin plastic cup to drink from. The lady who took our order was curt and uncaring. Bright fluorescent lights glare into your eyes. Crab Rangoon is good otherwise nasty. Can't even believe they call themselves Chinese food. I got chicken fried rice (small order) it was white rice, no egg, chicken, onion that was raw and then cold peas and carrots (about 10 total in my meal). Worst I've ever experience. The wonton soup is good but the flimsy spoon wouldn't even cut the wonton so had to eat it whole. Worst 13 bucks of my life. Staff was rude. Place is nasty. Save your money. read more

When I am on the road for work, I sometimes order delivery. Hunan delivered pretty good General Tso's, it was spicy just like I ordered. The egg rolls are basic egg rolls but, they hit the spot. If/when I get back up to Mankato I will be sure to call them. read more

I'm sitting in my hotel room as I write this munching down what I would consider some of the best Chinese food I have had in quite a long time. Now, I know it is not "actual" Chinese food, but it is DELICIOUS! I got 4 crab rangoons, a chicken eggroll, a full entree and chicken fried rice for under $14 including tip. That is outrageously affordable compared to some of the places I have eaten! Add to it that this food is so delicious, I am going to miss out on this place that I just discovered when I move!!! Hunan is my go-to restaurant when I'm in Mankato. I first discovered it when my partner lived across the street, making it an obvious first choice. However, the food is good enough to warrant a drive from the new place. Mankato isn't exactly a mecca for the vegan eater, so Hunan's vegan-friendly options, although limited, makes it stand out. I rarely spend a night in Mankato without going to Hunan for their Szechuan Bean Curd, which contains a nice mix of veggies (usually cabbage, pea pods, green peppers, water chesnuts, carrots, and mushrooms) in addition to tofu, and has a delicious Szechuan sauce you'll find yourself craving. They also have the obvious mix of American-Chinese food that you'd expect, which makes them a great place to go with omni friends. My partner never balks my requests for a supper run here, and his usual is the Honey Chicken. Finally, the restaurant is owned by a very friendly family. Their english is somewhat limited, but they are patient and don't mind repeating themselves if you don't understand them the first time around. It's nice to be able to support a local family (who clearly work hard to keep their business going as the four of them make up the restaurants entire staff) while enjoying delicious food! read more

You don't know how much I love "Crab Rangoons" which made of cream cheese, that's the best one I tried ever! Lmao. Still searching for a decent Chinese restaurant. This was not it. Maybe because we are in rural Minnesota, but it seems as though this place didn't even try to be authentic. Egg rolls were cooked on the outside but wrapper was raw on the inside. No mustard, plum sauce or soy sauce packets. Sweet and sour chicken was passable but it was only chicken and sauce. No pineapple or tomatoes or green peppers. The worst was the Kung Pao Chicken. It tasted nothing like what I am used to eating in Chicago. It was just cooked chicken and some sauce that didn't taste right. They also used way to much American style celery. There was probably equal parts celery to chicken. Who wants to eat that much celery? Not me. Lastly, the place didn't give off a clean appearance. That makes a big difference. read more

So ridiculous how addictive this is. I ordered the Szechuan bean curd and like a previous reviewer posted, I find myself craving it. The portions are huge and were enough for three meals. Unconsistent at best. I have had good meals delivered from here and I have had horrible meals delivered from here. I will admit I am a bit picky about my Chinese food but I have never had food that has tasted warmed over like I have received from Hunan Garden outside of cheesy strip mall buffets. Their food seems to have gotten worse recently as well, I don't know if that is because they're cutting the quality of product they're buying or if I just have had a string of poor experiences with them. Their Teriyaki chicken on a stick used to be my delicious go to appetizer on their menu...The last 2 times I have ordered it has been rubbery,had a horribly bad crust on the outside of it and to say that it was overcooked and dry is being extremely kind. Same thing with the sweet and sour chicken (another go to dish here for me)The last few orders it's been almost stringy it was so overcooked. I really do usually like General Tso's chicken,sesame chicken and orange chicken but from Hunan Garden the former two taste exactly the same and all three (when ordered by delivery anyways) end up arriving as one huge clump of soggy batter and overcooked dry dark meat chicken... Lately I have been underwhelmed to say the least. There has to be better Chinese food in Kato somewhere doesn't there?
