My husband and I decided to go out on a whim to get breakfast and we found this cozy little gem in Mankato. Let me start out by saying I never eat breakfast at all, and if I do I take a couple bites and I'm done. I had the best breakfast and ate it all!!! I had an everything bagel with garlic, scallion cream cheese and sprouts. I can't wait to back again next weekend to try the cinnamon rolls. The service was great and quick considering there was a line the entire time we were there. The girls were so welcoming and kind, with big smiles and just a great overall attitude. I was in Mankato for a conference and the first morning we were subjected to convention center coffee which could be argued was a loose interpretation of coffee, left my group of convention comrades jonesing for the real thing. Tandem coffee and bagels was the closest spot in walking distance to the convention center. We promptly filed in and ordered our coffee drug of choice. The staff worked quickly given the long line of coffee and bagel orders. It was impressive given the tight timeline we were on and there were 6 of us in addition to a robust morning of locals present. I ordered a hot Miel with oat milk, it was delicious. Some of us had bagels and one of us had their vegan scone, all were delicious. Their homemade cream cheese is creative and different. The vegan pastry option and milk alternatives was a lifesaver for our dear friend who has an allergy to milk- a real allergy, the Epi pen kind of allergy and not the get gas and take a lactaid version.. She was able to have something for breakfast that kept her alive and fueled in more ways than one. All in all, the coffee was good, the prices were reasonable and didn't feel like the assault on bank accounts like so many of the big chain monsters. Their pastry's are beautiful, the alternative options and deviation from mainstream basics was greatly appreciated. We'll be back tomorrow morning! Hit this spot up and tip them with the appreciation they deserve for keeping a small business up and running and compensating staff well enough that they don't go work for Dunkin Donuts down the road. read more

An easy to find spot in Mankato. Right on the corner with easy access to parking. Not a huge selection for breakfast. I would recommend coming here for a light lunch. I got the egg and cheese sandwich and added bacon and avocado- wasn't the best bagel I've had. The rest of my family ordered from the lunch side of the menu. The sandwiches looked better to be honest. One got the pizza bagel which I was regretting I didn't order. The other ordered the Nicollet Bike Shop which looked AMAZING. Turkey, avocado, provolone, lettuce, tomato, Mayo, and onions. Not a big selection for bagels either. I guess they are know for their bagel called kitchen sink which is basically an everything bagel. Having lived in Mankato for a short time, I'm always on the hunt for a breakfast/brunch type of place. Tandem is the perfect spot. Staff here is very friendly and helpful in helping you navigate the menu. All the choices for coffee sounded so great it was hard to choose. I opted for a breakfast bagel sandwich and an iced coffee. Both my food and drink were ready to go within 15min. There is plenty of room to sit inside and take your time and enjoy your meal. Along the walls, there is also some neat artwork to look at from local artists. Thankful to have this place so close when in the mood for a bite and a delicious coffee. read more

We were in Mankato for a wedding and made a point to go here every morning so we could keep trying more great bagel combinations! The "flying penguin" egg salad bagel was my favorite, but the Bicce with avocado, black beans and queso was a very close second! This is decent bagel joint. I don't love it but I don't hate it. It's simply satisfactory. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop there but if I was nearby and I needed a bagel fix, I wouldn't hesitate. Loved this place! It was exactly what we needed - delicious food, made with care, at a place we can get in and out of in less than 30 minutes. We had been planning to go to Number 4 across the street, but we walked into the lobby and immediately walked back out. Lucky for us, Tandem Bagels was ready and waiting! Staff was courteous and helpful, service was efficient, and food was delicious and appropriately priced. We were in Mankato for a long weekend & visited Tandem Bagels not once, but twice! My BF & I each got bagels with cream cheese, iced coffee or iced tea & then split a sweet pastry. Everything we had was delicious, but our favorites were the onion bagel with the bacon & scallion cream cheese & the caramel roll with pecans. The staff were friendly & they were hustling (they were busy!). I worked for a couple of hours the second day & I was impressed with how many customers the staff greeted by name. I love Tandem! When I first moved to Mankato about 10 months ago, Tandem became my normal Saturday morning routine. The bagels are fantastic and there is a wide variety of options. They have creative and clever sandwich options that span well beyond the typical bagel shop's breakfast sandwiches. I recommend the Flying Penguin (egg salad) on a kitchen sink (everything bagel). They always ask if I would like the filling removed from my bagel to make room for my egg salad, and I always say yes! They are usually very busy so they often run out of bagel choices in the afternoon and it, at times, seems unorganized. Really though, they are just popular and regularly have a line of customers waiting. If you plan to dine in, make sure you grab a table when you see one, with it so busy, they run out quickly. Only complaint is that the space is so small. I have never had a bad experience! read more

Whenever you find a place that makes chocolate chip bagels, you have won over our family. The tasty, chewy bagels offer a flavor for everyone. Our only complaint . . . a little light on the number of chips. We also enjoyed the coffee brew and a plain bagel with cream cheese. I wanted to state that I was super excited to eat at this cute restaurant. The atmosphere is charming and the staff are so nice. However, I was unpleasantly surprised that the cost of their sandwiches seems to be so pricy for the amount of food that you get. I understand that everything has gone up so they have to adjust for the cost of inflation, but I rarely eat out due to my own financial limitations and would not do so at this restaurant because of these high prices. I hope they do succeed because we need more restaurants in this city to make it. I wish them the best. read more

We must have picked the wrong time to visit as it seemed the workers were mostly new and didn't know what was going on. I got a salad that was pretty good but most things were quite overpriced. Most of the bagel sandwiches were $6+ and didn't come with anything else. I ordered an iced earl grey tea. The menu says all tea can be served iced or hot. I was given a green tea and told that was the only one they could do iced. But that I could do the earl grey in a bag with ice water. Okay. However I got a cup of Luke warm water with a tea bag. I also had to go back and ask for a baked good that was forgotten from my order. Overall, the food was a little too overpriced, but I'm guessing we got weird service because of new workers and it normally wouldn't be so disorganized. read more
