I am always looking for places to go for Sunday brunch; NaKato was my most recent stop and I wasn't disappointed. They feature a pastrami sandwich on a pretzel bun which I thoroughly enjoyed. Also had a Bloody Mary which wasn't anything spectacular, but it was good. It was very busy, there was only one table available when we got there. Best food in North Mankato. Their breakfast is wonderful no matter what you order and they make a great no-frills Bloody Mary. If you're a salad fan like I am, you don't have to worry about the dreaded iceberg lettuce and dressing packet nightmare. Their quality is legit. Sandwiches are excellent too. Stopped on a Sunday morning around 10:30. The only place to sit was at the bar for the group our size (6). The food took one hour and fifteen minutes to come out after we ordered. This was absolutely unacceptable because other large groups got their food before us, despite walking in much later than we did. The bartender was less than apologetic. It's one thing for the food to be out late, but another for the bartender (our waitress) to not care. In addition, I would not order a drink from the bar. The bartender said five words the entire time (again, none of them were "I'm sorry"). She used her bare hands to put garnishments in drinks instead of tongs. In addition, watching her pour a beer was like watching three year old try to do it. The only good thing about this place is that one day I will see it on Bar Rescue and be able to say that I ate there. read more

Small town bar feel. Which i love, came in sat at the bar and order the special which was a prime rib sandwich, white cheddar cheese curds appetizers along with chislic (steak tips), great food good chicken strips and ranch our waitress was on the spot and friendly. We heard great things for it as a brunch and breakfast spot as well. Parking can be slightly difficult if it's busy but we found a spot right away. read more

We've been going to Nakato for years, ever since they opened and it has been pretty good. Yesterday my wife went in to get a drink and appetizer with a friend and she paid with a $50, her bill was around $14. The server came back with change for a $20 so my wife explained she paid with a $50. Needless to say the server "couldn't find a $50 in their drawer. When we spoke to the manager he was short with my wife about it and obviously she didn't get her money back. It's too bad really, now they are going to lose 100s of potential $ for 30 bucks. She must've needed it pretty bad. We will never go back. Either way over the years unless you are friends with the bartender the drinks are average at best and the food is not what it used to be. read more

This place was a great place! I was excited to try cheese curds after reading reviews and there were amazing and the Raspberry Chipotle Sauce was amazing! I had the Hot pastrami but added Pecan Bacon to it sooooo good!!!! My daughter had the Turkey melt and said it was very good as well. She goes to college there and had never herd of the place. We both agree we will visit again. I would love to go try breakfast maybe with a Bloody Mary. They have a very nice patio area also. read more

Had a great experience. Walked in and it reminded us of our small town restaurant/bar. We were greeted and able to sit a group of 15 together. Then the service started. Our server was a rockstar and she took great care of us. Always checking in. Able to keep up with appetizers, entrees, drinks and special requests for the whole group. Menu was great our server made suggestions, helped my mom pick out something. Then the food came and even with 15 people all the food came out within five minutes. And it was delicious. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. Plus I'm a bourbon snob and they had a great bourbon/rye list. We highly recommend!! read more

All in all it was - ok -. If you want authentic Minnesotan food, this is your place and If you want an omelette, ok, if you want anything besides a Midwestern style omelette, tough nuts. They had a lot of omelette options (maybe 7) but really nothing else besides the specials which were biscuits and Gravy and a breakfast bowl which was biscuits and gravy, hash browns and sausage in a bowl covered with gravy. So basically special one and two were the same thing except one was on a plate and two was in a bowl. The options are limitless! :) I like Mexican breakfasts and spicy food so I was really disappointed there was no breakfast burrito, huevos rancheros, or even an omelette that had jalapeños or salsa. Which is the reason for the low score. I ended up just getting a side of hash browns because a Denver omelette or an omelette that had a different name but was like the Denver with diced bacon instead of ham, or bacon and Ham, another name and option, or veggie w 3 veggies.... Or veggie w 4 veggies, yes really, that basically sums up your options. And you should at the least have Tabasco on the tables if your going to leave all other condiments on the table. There was one bottle of Tabasco and one bottle of siracha for the whole restaurant... So the waitress just kept moving them from table to table. They aren't expensive? Disclaimer: my entire family was admittedly hangry when we arrived at the restaurant. We usually love places like this, a little slice of Americana. This place, not so much. Food is mediocre at best. Soups we're definitely not made in-house and had no taste other than an incredible amount of salt. The $10 burgers and sandwiches were underwhelming to say the least. Now on to the service. On the bright side I could say that it was consistent with their food. Ended up having to go to the bar to get a refill on my soft drink because the waitress never came back for a refill, after telling us she was getting a refill. The waitress asked how the soup was and we let her know they were somewhat tasteless and too salty. She replied with a "hmmmm". Both cups of soup we ordered we're left barely eaten but we still got charged for them. We had to point out to the waitress that when a server asks the customer if their food is good and the customer says no and does not eat the food, normally the item is removed from the bill. All in all I think one can do better in Mankato then this place. read more

My boyfriend and I decided that we were going to get dinner at Nakato on a Saturday night. All the tables inside were full, so we decided to sit outside. It took 10-15 minutes for anyone to come take our drink orders. I ordered a shirley temple and my boyfriend ordered a water. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my drink, and when I got it it was a Sprite. Not correct. The waitress said she would be back with my boyfriends water, and took about 7ish minutes to bring his water. After that, it took about 15-20 minutes for her to come back and take our food order. At that time, our drinks were already empty and she did not refill them. It took 20 minutes to get our food (which is expected), and after that it started slightly raining. My boyfriend went inside and asked if we could come sit inside. They said yes, so we picked up all of our stuff, and moved inside to the only empty table that was clean. It sat about 10 people. We sat inside for a while, about 20 minutes, with our drinks still empty and with no one checking up on us. Meanwhile, the same waitress is helping the other two groups that had come inside from the rain and she wasn't looking our way at all. We sat there for another 20 minutes, getting pretty upset that still no one had checked up on us at all and seeing if we needed anything. We sat there for a total of an hour and a half before we got so upset that my boyfriend went up to another waitress and asked if we were going to get our check, any service, or our takeout order that we had ordered when we got our food. She said that it would be ready in the next 20 minutes. We had been there a total of about 2 hours at that point. Our waitress came over and slammed the check on the table and walked away. We put the card on there and she ran the card and came back with our takeout order and said "Okay, bye". No thank you, no have a nice night. We were tempted not to tip at this point because we sat for over 1.5 hours with no service or drink refills. However, we didn't want to continue the stigma that teenagers tip poorly or that they're rude in public. We still tipped her 8 dollars on a 52 dollar check. Pretty generous. We were furious and will not be returning. Had never had that experience at a restaurant ever. read more

This little bar and grill style restaurant is just a couple blocks from where me and my family live, so we decided to give it a try last night! This place is set up like your normal bar and grill. Bar in the middle, with restaurant seating on the sides. The service was nice, but a little slow, even though it didn't look like they were short on people. The menu has a large arrangement of items, from burgers to sandwiches to salads. I ended up ordering the "Epic Burger", a burger with cheddar, blue cheese dressing, Canadian bacon and regular bacon. The burger was really rich and hard to finish, most likely due to the richness of the blue cheese. And it was served on toast instead of buns. This was pretty weird to me, but it added a nice crunch. Even though the burger was hard to finish, the flavor was good, and the patty itself was very yummy. The fries though, I'm almost sure those came from a bag. So overall, I think NaKato is a cute little bar that could be a hit or miss. I would really like to go back in the future and try something different. read more

Great food in a cozy setting, I've always been a fan of their breakfasts. Other than the waitress seeming a bit annoyed that we came in at 7:57 (they open at 8am on Sunday's), we had a great breakfast. We did notice though, that the server paid more attention to another party that we assumed were regulars. We sat down before them, but they were served first and got their food first. My bf ordered their corned beef hash, which came out slightly cold.
