This place is pretty much your average Chinese takeout, but we've found it pretty serviceable over the years. Some dishes are stronger than others - their wonton soup and house special soup are both very solid. The house special soup comes packed with lots of meat, wontons, and even crab sometimes. The boneless spare ribs are also pretty good - not too much fat and not too sweet of a sauce. That is one of the kids favorites - the "red chicken". The beef quality sometimes isn't the best - a little chewy / stringy. Would go for chicken or pork over the beef. Very friendly service and they'll often throw in something a little extra - this time it was some egg drop soup. read more

Been going here for years and the food used to be great. However recently ordered chicken and string beans - should have been call string beans as the chicken was hiding. Same with the MuShu pork - all vegetables and little pork. Lastly the pork fried rice was simply yellow rice with some bits of pork thrown in, very dry and tasteless. No longer our go to Chinese take out and cannot recommend it. read more

I am never a fan of Chinese food in New Jersey. This one is way over my expectation. I ordered the traditional Beef Chow Fun and chicken wing. The seasoning on the Wing is just perfect and did not have the normal oily smell. The chow Fun is perfectly cooked without dry spot. Being from Hong Kong, these two are my usual food for tasting the standard of cooking. Very happy and will visit again read more

Since moving to Mendham, NJ - I have been loyal to Aoyama in Mendham. One of the contractors I hired for a bathroom addition asked if I ever tried Hunan Wok/Randolph. One of his sub-contractors was eating Singapore Mei Fun - don't hold me accountable to my spelling. Well - starving - I called, ordered it - absolutely perfect! Maybe $11.00 - the portion so large, I ate it over 3 days! Aoyama's price for same dish, $16.00 - smaller portion, chicken never cooked well enough. Helen at Hunan Wok, who greets you - I guess the owner, so lovely and so helpful!! Moving forward, I will only use Hunan Wok. It's fine that you cannot dine there - but working from home precludes me from doing that anyway. Best Chinese food since I moved out of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. 5 Stars from me. Try it! Oh, Hunan Wok. A place that has been around for a very long time, yet not without its challenges. Roughly 10 years ago, this place was so consistent. Even though it's filthy on the inside, the food was always spot on. No longer the case. I stopped in today to pick up an order of pan fried pork dumplings (my favorite). Hunan Wok used to make dumplings that were out of bounds tasty. Now? Pretty much all dough, and little meat packed inside. Combine that with boring flavor and you have frustration. The other dishes I tried earlier this year were also disappointing. Note that you cannot use a credit card unless the purchase is over $10, however I would suggest looking elsewhere for a more solid Chinese food experience. This place has really gone down hill. As well, the customer service is greatly lacking. Bummer. read more

At one time when I lived close by this was my go to place for wonderful Chinese food. My go to dish was chicken egg foo young. It was amazing and the sauce that they always gave to go with it was just simply wonderful. I was in town recently and ordered it and I was so disappointed. This fast food Chinese-American slop fest actually used to be one of the better Chinamerican take out spots. I've lived out of the area for several years and haven't kept up with local business ownership changes. Today, this place is a frightening festival of arguing employees/owners or possibly husband and wife. I don't need to suffer from the domestic disputes of unhappy owners while waiting for really lousy food. The food is hideous. If anyone can overcook, undercook, overcook, or otherwise ruin food then, you'll find these folks are overqualified and exceed your wildest expectations. Ordered the 2 combination platters, was given one combination and another full plate ( extra price and without the egg roll) I specifically asked to eat in, they took the order, charged me and then informed me that they were closing. It was after 9, I will give them that, but they stayed open well after I sat parked in my car eating. All this was under what was purported 'gaps in communication' but I did not quite buy it. Years later I decided to give it a second try...The second time, one of the chef's sons was sitting at a table (where people were eating!), picking his toenails!!! Ordered takeout from here for years. Last few times not up to par & kitchen looks filthy. Last week, after ordering on phone (told 10 minutes) arriving in 12 minutes, my order was not ready. Man at counter took my money and kept looking in bag thinking the rest of my order would magically "?" appear. Another customer came in & ordered. She received hers although same man messed up order giving her entree order rather than combo platter. Argued with her regarding error. Apparently my egg foo young was never made (gravy in bag though) and one cook not busy. Man had never asked about it. I also had to ask repeatedly for hot oil. If someone could prove to me that the meat in the "chicken and broccoli" I ordered was really chicken, I'd up my rating to 2 stars...but that's about it. What was that mystery meat? It was very fatty, limp like and kind of slimy. Definitely not the texture of chicken. After a few bites we threw it out as we had no idea what we were eating. Flavor was just okay. Can't bring myself to order from here anymore. It's just too inconsistent and now I don't know what meat is being substituted for chicken. Kinda scary. read more

There are two Hunan Woks that I go to, and the main reason for that is that this place does not deliver, but that is my ONLY complaint. The food here is yummy, and the portions are very generous. I swear I think they put crack in in their Wontons, because they are so addicting... Wonton Soup, Steamed Wonton in Garlic Sauce, Fried Wonton... I just can't get enough! I have gotten trays of food from there for parties (pricing on party tray is awesome) and everyone complimented how good the food is. read more

I got out of work late. And this location was closer to work versus a place near home in Dover that has great Chinese food. I opted for convenience and many many years ago when I lived here in Mt Freedom the food here was great. Well they have obviously changed cooks and management. I ordered a large chicken and broc and fried dumplings. Almost came to $20, that is alot I think. The chicken and broccoli was very greasy. Strange texture and had no flavor. And the dumplings appeared to have been over cooked. I saw them make the cook throw them back in when they were done. He thought I wanted steamed I guess. The color of the inside dumpling looked very dark than the meat color I normally see in there. Very unpleasant experience. I will not be returning, ever. But the staff was very friendly. Definitely a take out restaurant. They have a table or two if you really want to sit down but I wouldn't. There are usually boxes and stuff all over the restaurant floor, not sure why.
