My team member asked for strudels from this place as part of his farewell celebration treat. I ordered a full strudel of the Apple, cheese, strawberry and blueberry cheese strudel too. Found out they only have the blueberry cheese strudel for Father's Day only. :( Ordered 2 apple, 1 cheese, 1 blueberry, 1 cherry and Bavarian cream strudel. $52 cash. They also offer cherry, but not a big fan. The blueberry cheese sounds like it would be my favorite, but it's only made for Father's Day. They only accept cash here! Cash is king and most likely, so they don't have to pay for CC fees. Not so cool, since it doesn't promote folks buying here unless they know ahead or carry around cash. Small front space, it gets crowded quickly with a few folks in front of the counter and displays. Mostly interfacing with the staff over the display windows. Each strudel is a 10 inch brick, 6-10 pieces, costs $8-$9 for each brick. I am so glad I put in an order ahead, they only had the cherry and cheese strudel left in the display and more was baking while a line of customers behind me waited for them. The cherry and Bavarian cream was not for me at all. The cheese wasn't my favorite either. No go for me. The blueberry and apple were good. The crust was definitely flaky and brittle. Most of it ended up falling off as you cut into it though. Not sure what u was expecting, but I can't say I was blown away by any of the strudels. Perhaps strudels aren't really for me? I imagine the blueberry Bavarian cream would be good. read more

If you love strudel, you must stop here sometime. They don't sell any baked goods other than strudel but there are a variety of flavors (apple, cherry, walnut, cheese, etc.). The strudel is crisp and fresh - opt for the added powder sugar. You can buy it fresh or frozen. The frozen pastries are the better deal for a 20 inch segment. In addition to strudel, you can also find a few other Hungarian specialties, Ike a variety of noodles and paprika cream. Be sure to stop by before closing time at noon. read more

Wow! Looked this place up for a family breakfast treat to go with our coffee. My son was in from overseas and I found this little hole in the wall bakery on Yelp! Their donuts have no taste! There 47 kinds of pastries are void of flavor! BECAUSE THEY DON'T EXIST!!!! They do ONE THING: strudel and they do it magnificently!!! Hat the apple, cherry and ordered a walnut. They sell out fast, especially after being featured on the local news. They were sold out of anything baked and just had frozen available, supplies were even short on that. We got 1 apple and 1 pumpkin, we took them home and baked them. They were really good, I think pumpkin was better than the apple. I want to try more flavors! OMFG. I can only mutter this when my mouth is filled with utter delight. I say this a lot when consuming this place's strudel. OMFG. All the strudels in here are awesome, it is just a matter of personal taste. My father is a fan of cherry, my husband the apple or strawberry filled and my mother is a devotee of the apricot. I will take whatever, I really like walnut and anything with cream cheese but I am flexible. The only real downside to this place is that the strudels come in sheets, that either means a lot of overeating or practicing the art of compromise. Compromise is hard when the place is not nearby and the hours are prohibitive. This means we always overbuy. The strudel is reasonable thank goodness but my blood sugar is not. The strudel wins. Make it a point to get over here once. You will return once you try it. If you have not had real deal strudel please try it at least once. You too will find your mouth filled with utter delight. read more

Oh my word. I stopped in this Saturday while my daughter was at Hungarian School. I knew this place has funny hours, so I knew I had to stop in while I was in the general vicinity. I purchased three strudels. They were all yummy, but the cream cheese one was simply amazing. The strudel was plump with sweetened cream cheese and the layers of dough were crispy and interspersed with brown sugar for a yummy textural highlight. The apple and cherry strudels were also yummy and well received by the family. Unfortunately, they were sold out of apricot by late morning, so I missed out, but I might have to call in an order for a cream cheese/apricot one for Easter. If you like strudel, this is definitely a place you should make time for. Also, eat it the day you buy it for maximum crispy flakiness. Plus, who has more self control than that?!? read more

The strudels here are perfectly crispy yet soft and absolutely delicious. I got the apple with bavarian cream and cherry, and both were absolutely amazing. No words. Definitely some of the best strudels I have ever had. The strudels def taste the best when eaten within a half day of being bought. I didnt care and found myself eating it still the next day and the next day but they definitely got soggier (as expected)... but still delicious. Lovely bakery place and awesome strudel. I have never tried strudel before, but I believe here has the good strudel. I drove to here three times in 6 days, from Rochester. All I can say is their strudel is worth the drive. I got cherry, Bavarian cream & strawberry, and cheese strudel. So fresh and tasty, my friends and I loved them. I especially like the cherry one. In general, I don't like any kind of cherry flavor food, but the cherry strudel was great, totally changed my concept, I think this is a magic power of baker! read more

My aunt used to come into this place for strudel whenever we had a family picnic at her house. It was always delicious. My favorite was the cheese strudel. Unfortunately, she passed away in 1995 and I haven't been back since then, until now. It's still as great as I had remembered. The crust is flaky and crispy. The fillings are terrific as well. It's taken me 40 years to drive across town to get some Hungarian strudel. What is wrong with me?? This unassuming little shop is the place of real deliciousness. The are only open until noon. It's best to call (313-383-4440) before you go. It's smart to call the day before and place your order (apple, cherry, apricot, blueberry or cheese). They are CASH ONLY so be prepared. We tried apple and apricot. Flakey layers with delicious fruit filling. The freshly baked strudel is $8 or $9 for a 10" strudel depending on the filling. You will be asked if you want powdered sugar on it (who would say no??). They do sell larger pieces in frozen format to bake yourself. We had a wonderful experience. Kind, friendly staff who take a proudly serious approach to their craft (making strudel is a serious craft! If you don't believe me, check out the YouTube on the WXYZ profile on this place!!) Don't get the hype now that I've been there. Ordered an apple,cherry and cheese strudel in advance and was straight up disappointed with the quality. The dough was tough because it was either overworked, over baked or just plain stale. One could make their own from filo dough and canned filling and get the same disappointing results. A friend of mine found out that I was going to Allen Park to visit a client, and he handed me a piece of paper with the address to the Hungarian Strudel Shop written on it. My appointment was less than a half mile away from here, so I headed to the shop at 1:00. Their hours are limited (8AM - 2PM), however it's certainly well worth the visit. Park right in front, and walk into the quaint, old shop. I purchased 2 different types of strudel, as well as a plate of Walnut "something or other" (I believe it was the first time that I saw that word which described the wrapped walnut goodness, and perhaps it was Hungarian?) that was very delicious, and covered in powdered sugar. I was looking for a bakery in the area and this one received amazing reviews! It's on a nice street and it's a small place - it didn't disappoint! I got apple and cheese strudels and my entire family agreed it's the BEST strudel we've purchased in a long time! We are Hungarian and we said we couldn't even make it better! Best Darn Strudel around. This kids is the REAL thing. They have many varieties to choose from and if you order ahead they can make what you don't see on a normal walk in basis.
