Hungry Harvest box with their biggest fan

I have been a hungry harvest devotee for over a year. We get a mini box of veggies/fruit, along with a weekly delivery of eggs. The eggs are extra large and make really good soft boiled eggs for my husband to take on the go. The veggies like carrots and yams are so necessary in our house since we make our own dog food and we have a veggie eating bunny. For a box that comes with irregular produce that could not be sold in stores, I have had no issues with quality. Every once in awhile you'll get an eggplant that might be so obscenely big its almost perverse, but mostly you get either mini or jumbo sized versions of your favorite produce. They also sell grocery items like yogurt that may have a shorter shelf life period. We usually get items we like and there is a list for disliked items, and every box usually has a new to me item. Usually the things I get frequently that I love are pineapples, tomatoes, onions and cucumber. I had no clue what Japanese sweet potatoes were or what exactly to do with rhubarb but they do have featured recipes on their insta and website. Our delivery gets dropped off on a Thursday, we get a text when it is on the way. Never had an issue with delivery or even a single broken egg. What's even better their boxes are so sturdy we reuse them, right now our pet Easter bunny is using the boxes as housing/chew toy. I am especially grateful for their service and delivery drivers during COVID, they have kept us all stocked with produce. What's even better they deliver butter lettuce and other greens sometimes packed with dirt and roots. I managed to plant these and now I have a hungry harvest garden going. Thank you for all the hard work you all do.

It was recently brought to my attention that there are produce delivery services that rescue rejected but perfectly edible food from being sent to landfill. I was so excited to learn that Hungry Harvest delivers to South Florida! I found a $5 discount code (you can find a ton of them, I even have a referral code) and ordered the Mini Organic Harvest box ($28). I debated between the regular Mini Harvest ($17) and the organic but ultimately splurged on organic. It is my understanding though that even the regular Mini Harvest box sometimes comes with organic and they tend to be produced locally so that's an awesome deal. Shipping is under $4 unless you place an order for $29.90. There are add-ons, like garlic and lemons, and you can customize what you want exactly in the box for $1.50. You can customize and add a few extra items that are already in the week's box to meet the free shipping. Once they figure out what will be sent out for the week, you get the list and then you have the option to skip delivery or customize the order. What's great about this list is that they actually tell you why that item was going to be sent to landfill (too small for stores, overproduction, cancelled order, blemishes, etc). If you don't want to pay $1.50 to customize, you can always create a Never List so you know they won't put that particular veggie you don't like in your box. I've ordered two boxes so far and I was pleasantly surprised both times. Based on the list they sent me and knowing what their reason was for rejection, everything was as expected or better quality than what I have seen in some big grocery chains around here. This is a great way to eat veggies and fruit that you don't necessarily consume regularly and stock up on your staples at the same time, all while helping reduce food waste. When my daughter learned that the apples and mushrooms she just ate today were supposed to go to trash, she cried and said she's sad for them if they were wasted. Just for that I'm glad we tried out Hungry Harvest and I look forward to the next boxes we'll be receiving!

Excellent customer experience, price and quality!! Hungry harvest are incredible, these aren't any old organic boxes. They are completely customizable, plus you can add a variety of other awesome things from their marketplace. The website is great, works perfectly and if you have a question they are on hand to answer it immediately using their chat function. I have recommended this to all of my friends because we love it so much.

My first box I ordered was perfect. Every box since has been disappointing with the quality of produce. Last week I had to throw out half of my box. All the vegetables came soggy, smoshy, limp, moldy, or rotting. This is bad and goes against why I signed up for this box in the first place... food waste!

Hungry Harvest is great! My husband and I decided soon after we got married that we needed to eat more veggies. We started out trying new things every other week and ran out quickly for new options from the store. A couple years later I found Hungry Harvest and now we have a plethora of choices! We got bored with the same 7 veggies at the grocery store. Now we have much greater variety, save time and money, and feel good helping the community! I highly recommend checking out Hungry Harvest. We do the smaller box every other week and add on extra stuff as needed.

I've received my 3rd shipment from HH now, and have been thoroughly pleased and a bit surprised each time. I expected second hand rotten fruits and produce and, instead, am always delighted to find fresh, beautiful fruits and produce! Initially I worried about cost and subscription commitments, but they set this concern aside. Subscription is completely customized and each one can be customized about 2-3 days in advance of shipment ... when they know what they have to ship. As for the cost .. HA! I compared all 3 shioments so far, and each was the same or less than my grocery store prices AND: o I didn't have to burn gas and go fetch it o I didn't have to lug it through the store, check it out, and carry it home So here's my latest shipment. I live alone, so I get the smallest mini harvest box .. which works perfectly for the amount of fruit and veggies I need every 2 weeks .. customizable time frame too as is my box contents. I compared the exact same items to my grocery store prices, and HH cost a whopping $0.20 more! But HH box was: o fresher produce o Contained nice bib lettuce my store doesn't even have o Top quality and exactly wnat I asked for I especially always love the pears which ripen so nicely in about a week and are so sweet. The baby tomatoes, when they have them (yes, from Mexico) are the sweetest I've ever tasted ... I'll buy a whole box of them next time they are available! AND: o I get a freeze pack each time I'll save foe my beer coolers this sum,mer o A sturdy box I use to carry and store stuff or use for my own outbound shipments o A great storage guide witht the first shipmpment .. I learned about 5 new things about food storage I never knew! o There's all kinds of other markets goodies, changing every week which are always top quality, healthy, and fun to shop I'm probably going to increase my box size in the future to include my local family and refer to friends. The referral discount is nice too.

Mini fruit harvest with Brussels sprouts and watermelon radish add ons

As a former food-access social worker, I cannot have more support for Hungry Harvest's mission. I order a mini fruit harvest every other week that comes consistently stocked with delicious fruit that I otherwise would not be eating. It is a great system to make sure you are getting nutritious snacks into your diet, all at a very manageable price. They have special 'Add Ons' every week ranging from extra produce, bakery items, and teas that are always really fun to browse. I tend to throw in some Add Ons every order, this time being Brussels sprouts and watermelon radish (yum!) What really sets them apart, though, is amazing customer service. For example, my delivery this week was missing an order of strawberries. I emailed them to point that out and, within 5 minutes (on a Saturday!), my account was debited with a refund for that product as well as a little extra for the inconvenience. Here's my order from this week as an example: 2 Blood Oranges 1 6 oz. clamshell of Blueberries 1 6 oz. clamshell of Blackberries 2 Empire Apples 3 Green Pears 1 Kent Mango 1 Mystery Grapefruit 10 Nectarines 3 Satsuma Mandarin 2lb Watermelon Radish 1lb Brussels Sprouts My favorite Hungry Harvest-facilitated recipe I have concocted thus far is a radish and Brussels sprouts egg white omelette: 3 egg whites 1 cup of grated watermelon radish 3 grated Brussels sprouts Precook the Brussels and radish in a pan before the egg. I love Hungry Harvest! I get my high quality organic veggies every week delivered directly to my door, regularly, with a text message reminder and confirmation, and even have the option to customize! Highly recommend! I eat healthy for a reasonable amount of money and the variety is great! read more

I LOVE my Hungry Harvest experience! I'm a full-time working student who loves to cook, on a budget. I cook for two usually and the Mini Harvest box is more than enough produce to pair with proteins for one week. The Full Harvest box seems like I'll have left overs to share with family! The quality of food is what should be expected for recovered items, and rejected items will surprise you with how nice and TASTY they are!! I stopped buying clementines from the stores years ago because they had no taste, yet the ones I got in my box were perfect! Highly recommend if you want to get creative constantly every week with meal ideas, especially if you meal prep!! Great for budget, quality, and creativity in the kitchen. Also would highly recommend if looking to force self or household members to snack healthier. This subscription is slowly shifting the eating habits in my house! read more

Someone told me about this company and I thought I would try them out I am famous for walking past the vegetable and fruits in the grocery store and not buying anything. I love being able to get local and excess veggies and fruits every other week. You can also do every week if you would rather and you always have the option of stopping deliveries if you go out of town. The produce is always high quality and I have tried so many different things that I normally do not buy at the grocery store. Also, we definitely get more than $15 worth of produce in each box! read more

I've been enjoying Hungry Harvest since the start of the pandemic and I continue to look forward to my shipment every week. I receive the "Full Harvest" weekly which is a perfect amount of produce for my family of 4. I love being able to do the add-ons - apples, bananas, bread, Beyond Burgers, and other pantry items. I have been receiving Hungry Harvest for about six months now. I started due to stay at home orders and the difficulty encountered with grocery deliveries. The quality and freshness of the produce is far superior to what I found in the grocery stores. Each week when I learn what will be in the week's delivery, I start planning meals around the produce for the week. Grocery shopping has become buying more staples to supplement the produce. Exposure to some different fruits and vegetables has encouraged me to try some new recipes. As a result, my family is eating more fruits and vegetables and less junk food. Take out meals from restaurants has become less appealing. Trying a new recipe can be exciting because I have all the ingredients or can make a minor substitution to create a very flavorful new dish. I have told friends and family about Hungry Harvest and some of them are now enjoying the same benefits. Hungry Harvest is the best customized grocery delivery option I've used. Other grocery delivery services and meal kits were either filled with packaging, complicated and did not have the same mission of reducing food waste as HH. I would recommend using them if you want on-time delivery and the ability to skip the grocery store and help reduce food waste. I have ordered the mini-harvest that includes fruits and vegetables for 4 months now. I've had a few issues with some of the produce, but overall have been very happy with the quality. Highly recommend at least giving it a try! read more

I've used Hungry Harvest for several months (biweekly, mini harvest), as well as introduced it to several friends. They are awesome. Their customer service is amazing. If you ever have issues with any of your produce and email them, they email back realllly quick, even on weekends. I'm not sure how they do it but it sets the standard high for other folks. The produce is good, some is more fresh and tastier than supermarkets (Whole Foods and Trader Joes) while others are comparable. I did get a few wilted/yellow veggies occasionally, but when I email they give me a discount or freebie. Yay Hungry Harvest! read more

Hungry Harvest staff provides amazing customer service! I love that my bi-weekly deliveries push me to try new things, or even old favorites , and the produce is always delicious! I signed up just before the pandemic stay-at-home orders were issued in my area and what a joy it has brought to us helping us eat healthy. This CSA delivery services has been amazing! The boxes are always delivered on time for the delivery days and the produce has been excellent. I really enjoy finding new recipes with produce I would not typically buy. I also really like having the option to add additional items each delivery and opting out of certain food I know will not be eaten. I am always excited to get my HUNGRY HARVEST delivery. I never know what's inside because I choose to just recieve it and not review the contents. Everything is always fresh and well packed. HUNGRY HARVEST has given us the opportunity to try new things that I would never pick up at the grocery store. Our palette has grown and our budget has shrunk, because nothing goes to waste. I have to say they are probably the best customer service team I have ever worked with. Orders arrive around the same time every week. Able to easily go online each week and make edits and additions to my order. Produce is usually ready to eat when it arrives - no waiting weeks for things to ripen. I have subscribed to Hungry Harvest since January 2017 and have been super pleased. I get a Mini Harvest every week, and am usually just cooking for myself. It's a fun challenge to figure out how to use the diversity of fruits and vegetables that show up on my doorstep. It forces me to eat better and eat at home more. I am also saving money. $15 for the box, and I go to the grocery for protein and some miscellaneous ingredients (another $30-40). read more

After trying a few CSAs in the DC area I found Hungry Harvest and couldn't be happier with it! The fruit and veggies are great (I already discovered some that I had never heard about before!), the size of the Mini Harvest is perfect for one person and I really enjoy the "never list" feature that they have! It's super convenient that it's delivered to your door and you can skip weeks in case you are out of town. Can't imagine living without Hungry Harvest. I love getting my box on Sundays and immediately start planning how to cook everything! It's a fun and healthy game that I totally recommend for who likes cooking with veggies and also help the planet by reducing food waste in a simple way! read more

I HEART Hungry Harvest! I found myself buying the same produce each week, which made meals less exciting. I signed up for Hungry Harvest to force myself to cook with new veggies and I am SO happy. Never before would I have bought an ear of corn, acorn squash, or a giant cucumber from my local grocery store (in the same week!) I have been very happy with my Hungry Harvest deliveries in Miami. I opted for the organic harvest and the variety/quality/freshness has always been better than what I find at the local grocery stores. Some items arrive retail ready in their branded packaging and some arrive farmers' market bare. The convenience and user experience is great - allows me to skip any delivery/customize the exact items/qty I would like to receive (2-3 days in advance), and communicates when the delivery is on its way/when it has been successfully delivered - complete with timestamp and photo of box(es) at my property. The boxes are always packed very carefully with ice packs (that they are willing to pick up and recycle) and include itemized inventory. The social impact of each delivery and the Hungry Harvest mission makes supporting this company a no-brainer and a joy! read more

Hungry harvest has been the greatest decision I have made for my groceries. $20 I get all the veggies I need each week and I feel good about it. The quality of the food is incredible. The majority of produce I receive is because a grocery store ordered too much or maybe just a little ugly. HH works with Baltimore city schools to give the children more nutritious meals. Each delivery I receive, 2 pounds of fruits/veggies are donated to people in need. read more

This is a wonderful service. The fruits and veggies are fresh, the delivery is timely, and the customer service is first rate. There are never any concerns with over-the-hill produce or other kinds of quality issues. We've had a great time all winter eating multiple mangoes a week, having avocado toast every morning, etc. My family of 5 has a standing rule: the answer is always yes to any fruit or veggie snack. Still, our full harvest and super fruit harvest keep our fridge and fruit bowl full all week. I've recommended this service to all my friends. read more

I get this delivered every week and it's always good produce and they're very reliable. Cheaper than the grocery store and you will def eat more fruits and veggies than ever. It's help me keep the weight off I've lost and try new recipes. And at the end of the day this is perfectly fine produce that would otherwise be wasted for superficial reasons. I can't rave enough good things about this company and it's products. I've been receiving Hungry Harvest boxes at my doorstep for over a half a year and all of the fruits and vegetables delivered through both summer and winter have been fantastic. I feel so good doing a good deed by saving these "ugly" produce or overproduced produce from being thrown in the garbage. But they also still give to charity with every box that I purchase which is a win-win. On top of that, the customer service is excellent. They really want to make sure that your experience is as expected and if something messes up, they have no problem crediting you or fixing it. For instance, I was supposed to get 1 lb of kiwi and got just 1 kiwi. Within hours of my delivery (without me even contacting them) they e-mailed when when they realized the mistake and gave me a code to take a couple of dollars off of my next delivery which more than covered the costs. The produce is so much more affordable than my grocery store too. Top notch quality! I love love love this company. They really care about their customers and have a fun time explaining the upcoming produce boxes and what is in it. I love the add-ons...I even got to order cactus pears which I never find in stores. It's like Christmas every week with the surprises I receive. I'm really happy to have found this company and have already referred two of my friends who are just as happy. You can skip weeks if you want and it's so easy to change or customize your orders. The delivery people are awesome too. You get to see where they are on your phone and know when your boxes will be delivered. Great service, product, and company! read more

What a great way to bring more fruits and veggies into our lives! We've been customers for several months and have been very happy with both the harvests and the customer service. The variety has been excellent and helps us mix up our meal selections and try new produce. It's wonderful to be able to add on items to stock up even more on weekly groceries. And it's hard to have something better than home delivery. When we've had rare minor issues with produce (past it's prime), the customer service has been quick to make it right. The 5-star reviews "say it all." I receive good quality produce at an excellent price that's delivered to my doorstep, food waste is reduced, and the idea that ugly produce is delicious and healthy is socialized. Win-win all around. I saw some early comments about uneven customer service. That's not the case in Maryland. My calls and emails to HH are returned very quickly. I know it's kind of gimmicky, but I love the idea of being an HH Hero. With the current negative climate, it's great being part of something positive with other like-minded people. read more

My colleagues are probably a little sick of hearing me talk about it, but I've convinced a few to sign up, and now they love it too! It's fun to get a surprise every week, and I've even been able to try fruits and veggies I'd never eaten before. I'm eating healthier, learning new recipes, and saving money over what I'd pay at the grocery store. You cannot beat the convenience. I love that they're helping folks in food deserts as well. Seriously, everyone wins with Hungry Harvest! We started with the "mini harvest" every other week, and quickly upped it to a weekly delivery because we've loved it so much! It's awesome to be able to customize your deliveries (to address allergies or if there's something you simply dislike). I can't say enough positive things about Hungry Harvest... I love hungry harvest! It's on time every week, the produce is fresh and stays fresh throughout the entire week. A mini harvest is enough for 2 adults and is such a bargain for the price. I also like that it allows me to experiment with new vegetables that I don't normally buy. If you buy fruits and veggies every week I recommend switching to hungry harvest for the convenience and the price! read more

This is an amazing concept with very poor execution. The amount of times I have had to contact their customer service due to rotten produce or something else being wrong with my delivery (broken eggs, no ice pack included so the food got warm between the time the box was delivered and when I got home from work, food that was supposed to be included not being there...etc etc) is pretty crazy. I continue to order from them because I really do like their concept and it is very convenient but man they need some help with the quality assurance. read more

I started getting the mini harvest some months ago and absolutely LOVE my weekly delivery! I like that I'm using produce that would otherwise become waste, and I also like the challenge of using different things from time to time. The quality is good and it lasts well in my fridge. My whole life, I've dreamt of becoming a social entrepreneur, with the goal of changing the food system.My senior year at the University of Maryland, Hungry Harvest was born in my dorm basement.We began delivering to our first 30 customers, 15 of which were free trials, in June 2014. The beginning was excruciat-ingly difficult, as we knocked on doors in the sweltering DC summer desperately trying to convince anyone to get a free trial. The problem was that nobody knew what 'ugly produce' was at the time.

Oak Grove Farms kept popping up, so when I found myself with a free rainy Saturday afternoon, it became time for an official Peanut Butter Pie Procurement Mission. Now, Oak Grove Farms offers way more than peanut butter pie. Their farm market is stocked with fresh produce, baked goods, meats, dairy products, locally made items and all kinds of other goodies. But this particular Yelp review? This mission? Laser-focused on peanut butter pie. Before leaving home, I called to make sure I wouldn't drive over only to discover they'd sold out. The nice lady who answered the phone happily confirmed they still had peanut butter pie available. Mission status: ON! When I arrived, I was actually surprised by how busy the farm market was despite the rainy weather. Apparently a little rain isn't enough to keep folks away from Oak Grove, which is always a good sign. I walked straight inside and made an immediate beeline for the refrigerated pie case. There were only two individual slices of peanut butter pie left, so I grabbed one before anyone else could beat me to it. They also had half and whole pies available, but let's try to exercise at least a little self-control on the first visit. The damage? A whopping $2.49 for a slice of peanut butter pie. I actually laughed. That's almost suspiciously affordable these days. As I was heading toward the register, I made the mistake of walking past the whoopie pies. Or perhaps the best decision of the day. Five minutes later, I was walking out with not only my peanut butter pie but also a Shoofly Whoopie Pie for another $2.50. My picnic dessert situation had officially escalated. Fast forward a few hours...dinner was over. It was dessert time. The peanut butter pie absolutely lived up to the hype! The filling was light and fluffy while still delivering a rich peanut butter flavor in every bite. I'm usually not the biggest fan of chocolate cookie crusts on peanut butter pie because I think they sometimes overpower the filling, but this one worked beautifully. Even the little dollops of whipped topping around the edge added just the right finishing touch. This one has officially earned a spot near the top of my Central PA peanut butter pie rankings! And then...the Shoofly Whoopie Pie. I honestly bought it because I'd never seen one before and curiosity got the better of me. And, I'm really glad it did! It was incredibly moist with a rich molasses flavor that came through beautifully without being overwhelming. It was unlike any whoopie pie I've had before, and easily one of my favorite varieties I've tried in quite a while. Mission accomplished! While Oak Grove Farms is clearly much more than just a destination for desserts, this peanut butter pie expedition was an overwhelming success. A typical week includes two types of fruit, some sort of leafy green (salad greens in spring, kale and such later on), some sort of potatoes, an additional veggie (like peppers, onions, and/or eggplant), a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs. My girlfriend and I take one share, designed for a family of four, and we eat well all summer and fall and are able to save a significant amount for winter. They're usually open every Saturday with extra foods and meats for sale. Lastly, even though this is a family operation, they are always quick to credit their "workshares" - members who work picking and/or packing produce in exchange for reduced rates on their CSA. A local business worth supporting.

Tomatoes is one of my favorite foods and the ones here were huge, healthy looking and offered at a great price. I may also venture back for the bulk grains since they were reasonable priced. As I looked around, I heard the owner having a conversation with a customer about farming and other environmental topics and he really seems to know his stuff. My family has tried various online "fresh food" companies, pre-made meal, you name it and they were just ok... usually the food did not last and was mediocre at best. We love our local famers market but even with our good intentions, we rarely made it on time. When my hubs stumbled upon FTF I was skeptical but really liked the idea of delivery, subscriptions and ala cart options and loved supporting our local farmers and businesses so we gave it a try. Here we are two yrs later and we still LOVE it! The fruits and veggies are so fresh that they typically arrive still covered in soil... this is actually our families favorite part! After about 6 months of receiving the subscriptions, we started ordering ala cart items and for the last year or so we've been getting about 75% of our weekly food from FTF. The meats, bakery, dairy and pantry items are all great! FTF is also not like a CSA where you tend to get the same items week after week. They have variety and this makes it fun for the whole family. We've received items that either we would never have chosen or had never eaten and we love it. If you are a meal planner than FTF is a wonderful option bc you get an email of the items that will come the following week and you have plenty of time to plan accordingly. The recipes and storage tips they provide are a great touch too. If you are traveling then it's super easy to suspend the service for as long as needed. Now, are they perfect, no however they do a darn good job fixing mistakes and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Sometimes there are missing or unavailable items and we will either receive a credit for or will get a little extra of another item. Personally, we would rather get that credit or extra item then a subpar product that would end up in the trash. There is a lot of talk in the reviews about the surprise email halting delivery to re-vamp and let me tell you, we were SAD... so sad but they worked hard to get back online and we were super excited to receive an email a week later announcing they were back up and running. Dealing with the logistics of fresh foods and delivery to the (very large) Balt-Wash area can not be easy, fresh food is very temperamental. The best part of it all... our 5yo son gets super excited to see the "red bags" on our front porch every week and he's learning about fresh foods and how important it is to support our local farmers. There was only one size of share I could obtain and I had to be able to pick up the produce every week at the designated location during a specific time window. When they included anything I did not care for my only choice was to skip that week. With FTF I can choose a size that fits my lifestyle and my bag of produce is at my door step when I wake up in the morning of my delivery. And the FTF membership works all year long, so I continue to receive deliveries for every season. Everything is packed carefully and the produce is as clean as you would find it at the supermarket. Whenever they have planned to include something I do not wish to have, I can ask for a substitution. And I can even expand the delivery whenever I wish for something more by purchasing additional items in their marketplace. I have been with this service now for over three years and have seen them grow and try new things, always willing to correct whatever does not work well. The customer service has always been very responsive to me. I could not be happier and have recommended this service over and over to anyone who is interested in eating local and organic. I actually enjoy cooking and coming up with my own dishes based on whatever I receive, but FTF has also begun an option that gives you the ingredients for a recipe (kind of like Blue Apron, I suppose). They continue to expand their products offerings, truly growing into having something for everybody. I am happy to have been there from close to the start and have enjoyed seeing all the improvements. I don't wish to ever go without it.

Payment is based on the honor system since the owner can't always be there. They accept Venmo, PayPal and cash. I'd recommend not using cash unless you have exact change because you may not be able to make proper change. The driveway is gravel and there a a few parking spots. There is a big tree with swings right next to the small shack where they sell their items. I'm not sure if they let kids swing on the swings but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I saw the owner and he was helpful and pleasant to interact with.

Each week's vegetable share has a great variety of produce, and everything is much better (and much better priced) than equivalents from the grocery store. There are meat, chicken, egg and cheese shares available as well. Everything they sell is raised in a healthy, sustainable and ethical way. Each week the farm sends out an update with extras available at that week's pickup--like fruit (peaches and berries in the summer, apples in the fall), milk, fair trade coffee, and other local products. The weekly emails also include recipes with suggestions for how to use less familiar ingredients. Two years ago I'd never tasted kohlrabi, now it is one of my favorite vegetables. In addition the incredible food, the pickups (I attend the Alexandria pickup) are like a weekly party...there are always free cookies, and members often stick around to chat. Margaret and the other farmer staff members are always helpful and friendly.

The first course was a roasted vegetable dish which consisted of broccoli, fingerling potatoes and pears with a Greek yogurt sauce. The second course was chicken thighs with risotto in a tomato sauce and the third course was a granola strudel with pears. There was also an arugula salad with grapefruit segments and parmesan cheese. I can be brutally honest, none of the courses were seasoned well. The first course was cold, the vegetables were wilted and did not mesh well. Was not expecting pears to be with my roasted vegetables. The second course was underwhelming as well. The food did not have any flavor and the dessert was not my favorite at all. I only ate the fruit out of the dessert. The chef did come out and let us know what each course was, however I felt that she really wasn't too personable with the guests. A few of the guests at the table were her friends so she only engaged with them, and of course they hyped her up, however the food was bland and underwhelming and the majority of the guests including myself did not finish their plates. If there is another community dinner, I hope it will be with a different chef in mind As I stated before my review is of the event, not the business as a whole.

A friend signed me up for a few mini fruit harvest boxes as a birthday gift last year. I've always been wary of meal-kit delivery services, their price, and the overuse of packaging - but Hungry Harvest is not like that AT ALL. It's much closer to a CSA, with fresh produce you can use any way you'd like, and the packaging is mostly paper-based and recyclable. (Sometimes food comes in clamshells, but that's only for a few items.) Plus I hoard to reusable freezer packs they use in the summer for my own picnics/trips/etc. I now get a bi-weekly mini mixed harvest, ($15!) which gives me a lot of food. Without a doubt everything I get has been fresh, tasty, and sometimes unexpected. It's prompted me to try new dishes and new flavors. I really like adding on staples as well - the garlic is amazing! Plus lemons, limes (for margaritas) and bread from Atwaters & H&S is a treat. There are some foods I really don't like (mangos) and they have an option for you to opt-out of getting those foods when they're in season, and instead they substitute it with a comparable item (usually oranges, much better.) I live in Balt. city, and it's very helpful they text me when my box has arrived so I can go fetch it before it disappears. I really have nothing bad to say about this service - it's very reasonably priced, uses low amounts of non-recyclable packaging, has always been fresh and includes great fruits and veggies. Even if they look a little weird, they taste great. My friends honestly wish I'd shut up about this, but I won't! Not ever! read more

Though the spaghetti squash did have a "dirt spot" on one side, which is common for squash. Everything in the box was well packed and cooled by a gel pack and it came with a how-to guide for storing different produce. Once I emptied the box, I noticed the gel pack was leaking in the box and luckily it hadn't on the produce. One of my items was swapped, brussels sprouts for a zucchini, which I was a bit bummed about but did read that items may be swapped for several reasons. Also I customized my box for extra minneola and subbed apples, and added several add-on items from their marketplace. Delivery was prompt, however I received a notice for it about 5 min. before it was delivered, which is a very quick heads up. A notification (email/text) for confirmation that an order processed then one for shipped for delivery (once leaving the warehouse) would be better in my opinion. Overall, I would buy again and recommend this service to others that would like to try produce that they may have never eaten before or for the convenience. read more

I highly recommend Hungry Harvest. Of course I want to support saving fruits and vegetables from winding up in the landfill, and of course I want to contribute towards HH's laudable practices of hiring the homeless and ex-offenders, as well as donating produce to the needy. But in addition to that -- getting Hungry Harvest is really fun! Every other week a box of fruits and vegetables are left at my door. The driver texts me to let me know when he will arrive, so I know when to expect it. I love to see what is inside each box (I feel like I am opening a present) and HH has helped to get me out of my produce comfort zone. A few things have been included in the box that I have actually had to google to find out what it was and how to use it! (Hungry Harvest also discusses such topics in their newsletter.) I have found HH to be very responsive, easily cancelling and restarting delivery when we are on vacation, and not including fruits and veggies in my box that I have put on my "Never" list. All around, a great concept, and a great socially conscious company. Their e-mails are friendly and useful, often including recipes, but not overwhelming in number. Definitely give them an A Plus! read more

Excellent! My wife & I have been getting the $25 box every other week for about a year. It's awesome. We've only thrown away 1 or 2 pieces, the entire time. We don't have to spend nearly as much at the grocery store (peapod!), we eat more heathily (is that a word? no? well, it is now!), and we get to be a lot more lazy -- food just comes to us. And they make good on the 50%-off referral thingy. I've definitely cashed in on that. The add-ons are fun to occasionally throw in, too. I pretty much never run out of onions anymore. I actually eat apples again. Potatoes & sweet potatoes are great. I always eat the tomatoes on day 1, if any are available. And they do indeed heed your "suggestions" on how to modify the "you don't quite know what you're getting" order. For example, I might get onions & apples instead of grapefruits & eggplants, which I can't stand. It works. We may even step up to a $25 box every week, or a $35 box every other week. We're not sure yet, but we go through our other food so much more slowly, now that we have all this healthy produce all the time. We want to increase the goodness :) read more

I've received 3 deliveries from Hungry Harvest so far. So far I am impressed with this company. I get the organic mini harvest each week. My diet revolves around vegetables and proteins (Paleo) with a few fruits added in on occasion. Because I can customize my order and eliminate the fruits I don't eat, I get only the items that fit my diet template. The vegetables have always been a very good quality. No complaints there. my first order came with mangos and star fruit which were not good at all. I'm learning that non seasonal fruits are not reliable, even in the grocery stores. I've had a missing items from 2, however their customer service is so good that they credited me immediately for those missing items. I love the fact that it's delivered to my door with text messages from the driver telling me when he is on his way with the ability to text him, that I can skip deliveries whenever I choose, customize my order and add on items that are not included with the selected "share". The company is doing a service to eliminate waste and end hunger. read more

We started getting our Hungry Harvest CSA last week and have been absolutely impressed so far. Our first bag had a great variety of fruits and vegetables that we used to make dinner the first night we had them. This week, we weren't able to pick our food up during normal hours (we are in an area where we walk about five blocks to get our food--super easy). I contacted Hungry Harvest to see what I could do about this and within hours I had an email back that said they would deliver our bag directly to our door this week, no problem. The customer service is wonderful, the mindset and problem solving behind Hungry Harvest's model is well-thought through and comprehensive. Their weekly email newsletter provides us with recipes that are tailored to the specific foods we will be receiving in our bags, which I think is brilliant and super helpful. This is an organization that is doing a lot of things right, and I can't wait to keep supporting them and cooking creatively with the produce they are providing. read more

I've been subscribing to Hungry Harvest for about 9 months now and couldn't be happier. My boyfriend and I receive a full harvest every two weeks, which is a perfect supplement to our store-bought groceries. I love that Hungry Harvest gives me the flexibility to opt-out of produce I don't like and add individual items, like herbs. It's also introduced me to a number of new fruits that I probably wouldn't have tried on my own, like starfruit and Asian pears (so tasty!). I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the deliveries. Oftentimes the food is even better than the produce from the grocery store. To anyone who might be skeptical about "rejected" fruits and veggies: I've never had any issue with the freshness of any item I've received. The price given the amount and quality of the food -- especially considering that it includes delivery -- is a steal! We LOVE getting our Hungry Harvest box on our door step each week! It is such a fun surprise for the kids to open it up and see what treats await us. And we have such a ball laughing at some of the oddly shaped or colored produce, and wondering why stores would want to reject THIS?!! It is a GREAT lesson for the kids to learn, regarding food appreciation and waste, and we adults are so grateful for a program that reduces that waste. We are all proud supporters of this group. And the food is great quality - only twice in 4 months have we gotten something that SHOULD have been rejected! I love that we can also still get organic produce. One of the best parts - LESS GROCERY shopping! ESPECIALLY appreciated when we return home from many weekends away, and have a box of fresh produce ready for us to enjoy that week. I've been enjoying my Hungry Harvest box for several months now and the Coronavirus that's been keeping us homebound has proven to be the best part of being at home. I look forward to every Sunday to see what's in the box and I find myself logging in to see what I've ordered in addition to my regular harvest. I've belonged to CSA's in the past but found them to be lacking when it comes to fruit. Not so with Hungry Harvest. And the eggs are to die for. Love having it delivered to my front porch, especially at this point in time. Loving the communications from staff when they're on their way to the house or an item is out of stock or they can't provide an item that we expected. I don't think I've ever been disappointed in Hungry Harvest and I've done my best to recommend them to others, especially those who have had to travel to farms for their boxes. I've used services like this before that don't let you choose your produce, which makes meal planning on a busy schedule nearly impossible. Hungry Harvest gives you the ability to personalize your delivery and make staples reoccurring (for us, onions, apples, and eggs). You can skip a week too if needed. The produce itself is usually of good quality, though it's often necessary to let things ripen on the counter before using them. If anything is damaged or too ripe to use upon delivery (a rare occurrence, but it happens), they are quick to refund the value of the produce. PITFALL - It's tempting to over-utilize the personalization and waaaaay over order! Start small and increase your harvest if needed. You can add things on pretty easily, even to a small harvest. My husband and I cook from home five days a week and pack lunches, and we usually do the mini harvest with 3 or 4 add on items. read more

We get the full organic box twice a month and we LOVE it. While the veggies are recovered they last for quite a while in the fridge. It's fun to find new recipes for veggies that we would never ordinarily buy....Parsnip or Turnip Fries anyone? They also have add-ons that you can get with every delivery or on specific deliveries of your choice: homemade granola, salsas, jams, jellies, herbs, peanut butter, coffee, etc. The staff are responsive, friendly and patient. They also send a weekly email about what your getting, why it's being recovered and offer recipes for the items in your box. BUT THE BEST THING - they give away so much produce in inner city areas where access to an actual grocery store with fresh produce is non existent (most of these areas have only bodegas/convenient stores which offer little produce) . I cannot say enough good things about this company!! read more

We've been subscribers to Hungry Harvest for about a half year and love it! Prices are reasonable, variety is phenomenal, quality of food is good to great, service is reliable. They pay attention to delivery instructions and on the rare occasion when something goes wrong, they are very responsive. In case you're not familiar with HH, they rescue, pack up and deliver customized boxes of produce to you. This is produce that would have been thrown out because it doesn't meet picture perfect grocery store standards (too big or small, misshapen or scarred) or was produced in excess (crop yield exceeded store demands). The produce is fresh and tasty. In addition to reducing food waste, HH also works with city neighborhood food deserts. Their website lets you easily modify your order and makes canceling a delivery (vacation, etc.) really easy. You should try it! read more

I have never been disappointed or unhappy with my harvest. I absolutely look forward to my delivery every week. I get an email on Thursday to let me know what will be in my harvest and i sit down and plan my grocery shopping and meals around my harvest. It is a wonderful way to stay on the healthy track. I am so so happy i signed up for this wonderful harvest. Also customer service has always been very helpful and I have absolutely no complaints. I one time got a text that my delivery was running behind and i was afraid i was going to be gone before the delivery got here. It was one of those super hot days. I emailed customer service which responded in like 2 minutes telling me my delivery would be by 2pm - an hour before i was leaving. So i didnt have to worry about my harvest sitting in the heat and possibly getting ruined. So pleased read more

Representing the NC area. I have yet to be disappointed in my Hungry Harvest (HH) delivery, the small veggie box, even when there are last minute swap outs. The veggies are varied from week to week and, while they may be misshapen or ugly, are still completely edible. Who cares about how they look, I'm going to cut them up anyway. The internet provides recipes galore, all I have to do is type in the veggies I have on hand and viola. Yesterday's dinner was Swiss chard, snow peas, and beef stir fry - delicious ! HH has truly made me a more versatile "chef" and I am eating much, MUCH better nutritiously. I would never think to buy many of the veggies I get in my weekly delivery. I have, for years, passed them up in the grocery store for the more traditional veggies. My purse, pallet, and physical well-being are pleased with HH. read more

This is a company that does such good work, everyone should be a member. It prevents waste of usable food, donates to those less fortunate and provides a wonderful variety of ugly food that is delicious. My husband and I have become more attuned to trying new foods and recipes. The price is right, the food is delivered to your door( they even inform you when they are coming.) They are always responsive to calls and emails. This is the perfect company to do business with as they help so many different people in different situations. We have never been disappointed. The twice monthly deliveries are perfect for our two person household. I feel that they are a much better bargain than CSA's. I can only encourage everyone to join and help save food and people. read more

So worth it! I love the variety of the box, and the ability to change around your veggies if there's something you don't want, or want more of. The suggested recipes that I've tried have been great. The box is delivered on time, they text to let you know it's on the way and has arrived, and you get emails ahead of time to tell you what's available that week + any available add-ons. Customer service has been great + really responsive. I get the small veggie box and it's enough for a week for my boyfriend and I--we buy supplemental meat and occasionally pasta, but the majority of what we eat is from hungry harvest! The price is incredibly reasonable and it's cool to know I'm helping save otherwise thrown-away veggies. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Started receiving Hungry Harvest earlier this year and I've been a huge fan ever since. I loath spending my limited free time going to the grocery store, so Hungry Harvest provides a cheaper, healthier alternative delivered right to my door on Sundays. The produce has always been good and I've been able to experiment with new foods on a week by week basis. The deliveries allow for customization, so I never receive foods I won't eat. As a single, twenty-something, the quantity is enough to last me a full week given that I'll eat out several times as well. On top of all the individual benefits, I'm supporting a good cause and making a difference. It's a big win in multiple categories. Looking forward to continuing in 2019! read more

I dread the day when I no longer live in an area that Hungry Harvest serves. I just hope that they continue to spread across the US. It is an amazing service run by dedicated people who care about their community and the environment. I have zero complaints and highly recommend HH to everyone I know! The prices are fantastic, I'm using fruits and veggies in recipes that I normally wouldn't even think to buy, and I feel better about my purchases knowing that otherwise the food would be going to waste. On top of all of this, you can cancel or pause your subscription at any time. I honestly don't know why everyone that can benefit from HH's service doesn't. I received my first bag of Hungry Harvest organic produce yesterday. It was on my front porch in a refrigerated bag as promised. Almost all of the produce items were the cream of the crop, albeit one of two red-leaf lettuce that was a bit too wilted and mushy to eat. Some items were over the amount promised (a whole lot of rainbow carrots). Other items were well below (only one yam when six were listed) or not included (missing kale). I've helped bag produce at precious locations and understand that the number of items vary and bags have to be arranged to make it most fair for all recipients. Happy with the selection and plan on buying another bag. Love the idea of a bag going to someone in need with my purchase! read more

I cannot give enough praise for the mission, personnel and quality of this company. What a wonderfully easy way to make a continuous contribution to local food insecure families! The customer service is beyond attentive and make sure that the customer is satisfied. Delivery to your workplace by partnering with places like Baltimore County Public Schools is unbelievably easy. Receiving our harvest each week is like opening up a birthday or Christmas present... So much fun! But best of all...the harvest makes you step outside your broccoli and green bean comfort zone! What's more, the contents of the harvest are customizable....I am so thrilled to be able to participate in this program. It is fabulous!! read more
