Hungry Harvest box with their biggest fan

I have been a hungry harvest devotee for over a year. We get a mini box of veggies/fruit, along with a weekly delivery of eggs. The eggs are extra large and make really good soft boiled eggs for my husband to take on the go. The veggies like carrots and yams are so necessary in our house since we make our own dog food and we have a veggie eating bunny. For a box that comes with irregular produce that could not be sold in stores, I have had no issues with quality. Every once in awhile you'll get an eggplant that might be so obscenely big its almost perverse, but mostly you get either mini or jumbo sized versions of your favorite produce. They also sell grocery items like yogurt that may have a shorter shelf life period. We usually get items we like and there is a list for disliked items, and every box usually has a new to me item. Usually the things I get frequently that I love are pineapples, tomatoes, onions and cucumber. I had no clue what Japanese sweet potatoes were or what exactly to do with rhubarb but they do have featured recipes on their insta and website. Our delivery gets dropped off on a Thursday, we get a text when it is on the way. Never had an issue with delivery or even a single broken egg. What's even better their boxes are so sturdy we reuse them, right now our pet Easter bunny is using the boxes as housing/chew toy. I am especially grateful for their service and delivery drivers during COVID, they have kept us all stocked with produce. What's even better they deliver butter lettuce and other greens sometimes packed with dirt and roots. I managed to plant these and now I have a hungry harvest garden going. Thank you for all the hard work you all do.

It was recently brought to my attention that there are produce delivery services that rescue rejected but perfectly edible food from being sent to landfill. I was so excited to learn that Hungry Harvest delivers to South Florida! I found a $5 discount code (you can find a ton of them, I even have a referral code) and ordered the Mini Organic Harvest box ($28). I debated between the regular Mini Harvest ($17) and the organic but ultimately splurged on organic. It is my understanding though that even the regular Mini Harvest box sometimes comes with organic and they tend to be produced locally so that's an awesome deal. Shipping is under $4 unless you place an order for $29.90. There are add-ons, like garlic and lemons, and you can customize what you want exactly in the box for $1.50. You can customize and add a few extra items that are already in the week's box to meet the free shipping. Once they figure out what will be sent out for the week, you get the list and then you have the option to skip delivery or customize the order. What's great about this list is that they actually tell you why that item was going to be sent to landfill (too small for stores, overproduction, cancelled order, blemishes, etc). If you don't want to pay $1.50 to customize, you can always create a Never List so you know they won't put that particular veggie you don't like in your box. I've ordered two boxes so far and I was pleasantly surprised both times. Based on the list they sent me and knowing what their reason was for rejection, everything was as expected or better quality than what I have seen in some big grocery chains around here. This is a great way to eat veggies and fruit that you don't necessarily consume regularly and stock up on your staples at the same time, all while helping reduce food waste. When my daughter learned that the apples and mushrooms she just ate today were supposed to go to trash, she cried and said she's sad for them if they were wasted. Just for that I'm glad we tried out Hungry Harvest and I look forward to the next boxes we'll be receiving!

Excellent customer experience, price and quality!! Hungry harvest are incredible, these aren't any old organic boxes. They are completely customizable, plus you can add a variety of other awesome things from their marketplace. The website is great, works perfectly and if you have a question they are on hand to answer it immediately using their chat function. I have recommended this to all of my friends because we love it so much.

My first box I ordered was perfect. Every box since has been disappointing with the quality of produce. Last week I had to throw out half of my box. All the vegetables came soggy, smoshy, limp, moldy, or rotting. This is bad and goes against why I signed up for this box in the first place... food waste!

Hungry Harvest is great! My husband and I decided soon after we got married that we needed to eat more veggies. We started out trying new things every other week and ran out quickly for new options from the store. A couple years later I found Hungry Harvest and now we have a plethora of choices! We got bored with the same 7 veggies at the grocery store. Now we have much greater variety, save time and money, and feel good helping the community! I highly recommend checking out Hungry Harvest. We do the smaller box every other week and add on extra stuff as needed.

I've received my 3rd shipment from HH now, and have been thoroughly pleased and a bit surprised each time. I expected second hand rotten fruits and produce and, instead, am always delighted to find fresh, beautiful fruits and produce! Initially I worried about cost and subscription commitments, but they set this concern aside. Subscription is completely customized and each one can be customized about 2-3 days in advance of shipment ... when they know what they have to ship. As for the cost .. HA! I compared all 3 shioments so far, and each was the same or less than my grocery store prices AND: o I didn't have to burn gas and go fetch it o I didn't have to lug it through the store, check it out, and carry it home So here's my latest shipment. I live alone, so I get the smallest mini harvest box .. which works perfectly for the amount of fruit and veggies I need every 2 weeks .. customizable time frame too as is my box contents. I compared the exact same items to my grocery store prices, and HH cost a whopping $0.20 more! But HH box was: o fresher produce o Contained nice bib lettuce my store doesn't even have o Top quality and exactly wnat I asked for I especially always love the pears which ripen so nicely in about a week and are so sweet. The baby tomatoes, when they have them (yes, from Mexico) are the sweetest I've ever tasted ... I'll buy a whole box of them next time they are available! AND: o I get a freeze pack each time I'll save foe my beer coolers this sum,mer o A sturdy box I use to carry and store stuff or use for my own outbound shipments o A great storage guide witht the first shipmpment .. I learned about 5 new things about food storage I never knew! o There's all kinds of other markets goodies, changing every week which are always top quality, healthy, and fun to shop I'm probably going to increase my box size in the future to include my local family and refer to friends. The referral discount is nice too.

Mini fruit harvest with Brussels sprouts and watermelon radish add ons

As a former food-access social worker, I cannot have more support for Hungry Harvest's mission. I order a mini fruit harvest every other week that comes consistently stocked with delicious fruit that I otherwise would not be eating. It is a great system to make sure you are getting nutritious snacks into your diet, all at a very manageable price. They have special 'Add Ons' every week ranging from extra produce, bakery items, and teas that are always really fun to browse. I tend to throw in some Add Ons every order, this time being Brussels sprouts and watermelon radish (yum!) What really sets them apart, though, is amazing customer service. For example, my delivery this week was missing an order of strawberries. I emailed them to point that out and, within 5 minutes (on a Saturday!), my account was debited with a refund for that product as well as a little extra for the inconvenience. Here's my order from this week as an example: 2 Blood Oranges 1 6 oz. clamshell of Blueberries 1 6 oz. clamshell of Blackberries 2 Empire Apples 3 Green Pears 1 Kent Mango 1 Mystery Grapefruit 10 Nectarines 3 Satsuma Mandarin 2lb Watermelon Radish 1lb Brussels Sprouts My favorite Hungry Harvest-facilitated recipe I have concocted thus far is a radish and Brussels sprouts egg white omelette: 3 egg whites 1 cup of grated watermelon radish 3 grated Brussels sprouts Precook the Brussels and radish in a pan before the egg. Hungry Harvest is great! I've been getting a weekly delivery from them for six months. It's good food and it supports the local community. I love that they deliver instead of giving you a tiny window to pick up your food every week, and I am glad they give you some flexibility in what foods you want (you can put foods on a hate/love list). They're very responsive and it's easy to put the deliveries on hold when you go on vacation. Would definitely recommend. I feel like it's a good deal on the food. read more

Love my weekly deliveries of the biggest fruit veggie box and mystery herbs. i enjoy not having to lug groceries home from the store, ability to customize orders, and the best part is if any produce is not up to your standard, is. Mushy/moldy/ didn't ripen etc., they will credit your account for the amount you couldn't use. I also love knowing what I'm getting way ahead of time so I can plan my family's meals before going to the store to get whatever else I need. read more

This is a great service. I eagerly anticipate my weekly delivery, which determines which soups or salads I'll make right away and enjoy for days. The idea of helping reduce waste is excellent. I am an Office Manager in Washington, DC and order Hungry Harvest for our staff. We receive bi-weekly fruit deliveries, which is the perfect amount for our staff of 15. The quality of the fruit is great. I'm always amazed that they are considered "seconds" and rejected by retailers. On the rare occasion that you get a fruit that is over or under-ripe, the staff at Hungry Harvest makes sure to work with you to get it right. I even had one occasion where their quality control team noticed that something wasn't quite right with one particular batch, but only after some of the deliveries went out. They proactively reached out and offered a credit without us even having to ask. Now that's great customer service! Our staff also loves the variety of fruit offered. It's a great way to try something new. Hungry Harvest let's you know ahead of time what's in your delivery and even let's you customize it to your liking. They even send you suggestions for recipes and tips for storing what you're going to receive. Our organization is working to make America a healthier place for future generations and I can't say enough about how happy we are to incorporate Hungry Harvest into our daily work culture. I have used Hungry Harvest for over 6 months now and I am so happy with it! The produce is almost always excellent quality and I love the variety I get each week. It's very easy to place a delivery on hold if you go out of town and I love being able to add items to a "never" list so I can help make sure I'll always use the stuff I get. They send recipes out each week that give you ideas for how to use up the produce each week. It's a great organization with a great mission! I've had a few issues with delivery consistency/quality-but their customer service is unparalleled. My concerns have been address promptly (like, within hours) and graciously. I cannot say enough amazing things about Hungry Harvest. My roommate and I have been getting most of our groceries through them for about 6 months and have convinced a ton of our friends to join the movement because we're constantly and consistently impressed. I looooove Hungry Harvest! I've been a weekly mini harvest subscriber for a bit over a month, and the produce is great, as is the price, delivery and customer service. I find I'm looking forward to seeing what will be delivered on Saturday each Tuesday, customizing my box, adding on items (fresh chestnuts & dates right before Christmas, extra artichokes & a coconut in January, etc). If anything is missing or unexpected on a shipment, an email to customer service is replied to promptly and a credit issued. If it's warm and produce needs to be kept cold, they add an ice pack to the box. When cold, they've put a thermal bag around the box with hand warmer at the top of the box, and when raining, a plastic bag around the box. It fun planning and eating the meals from this wonderful service. A winner, for sure! read more

We've been receiving deliveries for several months now. After several years of CSA subscriptions, we love the extra convenience of home delivery, customization (both the hate list and the actual customization option), and that we can get many local/unpackaged veggies and fruits. Plus, it comes year-round but we can pause it for vacations. We started with a mini organic delivery every other week and now alternate between a full and a mini. We also like the extra items on offer. We sometimes receive items a little past their prime, but customer service is the best I've ever seen. We get a refund of the item quickly without any fuss. And the incidence of this has really decreased as they use our info to improve processes. read more

A friend recommended this and I gave it a try. Imagine getting fresh veggies every week AND helping by not having them go to waste. I just let them surprise me and add a few things like cage free eggs, garlic, onions. I learned to cook leeks - yummy and eat kennel in salad. And because they are in the fridge I find I eat more veggies too. Try it today. read more

This service is awesome! You can choose the size of the delivery, you can state if there are certain fruits or vegetables you never want delivered, and it's definitely a highlight of my week! We are trying vegetables that we never did before, mostly out of lack of creativity on my part. The cost is reasonable, and the delivery is always reliable. I have recommended this to some friends, and they're as psyched as we are! What's even better is that this is helping to prevent food from being thrown away (because it doesn't "look pretty") AND some of my money is going to help feed others. I've been using Hungry Harvest for about 4 months and have never been disappointed. I love the variety of the produce and how incredibly fresh it is. I received a very helpful (and free!) produce guide book with my first order explaining how to store your fruit and veggies and how to wash and prep them. I like that I can add bread, eggs, and other random items each week to my box; there's great customization options. The customer service team is amazing. The website is easy to use. I could go on and on about how pleased I am with Hungry Harvest and I've recommended it to lots of family and friends! read more

I just received my first delivery today and I am very impressed with the quality of the produce I received. Very fresh and nice looking. I am very happy to be able to use food that may have gone to waste. I have tried a few different meal delivery services and I would say this is the best one. I like the ability to pick the size and items that work for you. I am looking forward to the next box and the meals I can make with it. I am very impressed with the company and their ability to save food and make it available for everyone to use. I love the delivery service as it will insure fresh food regularly and a time delivery is a great way to let you know it was delivered. Looking forward to more boxes in the future. read more

The service is excellent, timely, and thoughtful. Even the driver is courteous. Skipping a delivery is easy, adding items is actually fun, and the value is better than any CSA ever joined, in 5 years of using various services and CSAs. I actually had their service and another at the same time this winter so I could compare quality and volume, and Hungry Harvest won me over, hands down. read more

I am a new customer to Hungry Harvest and I am torn. On one hand, I really love this model and am excited that they are now in Raleigh. On the other hand, I have had my first customer service experience with them and I am not impressed. I saw that in this week's harvest I was set to receive 3 carrots priced at $4.80. This, to me, is outrageous. I changed it so that I could receive alternate produce that had more reasonable prices, however, I am now being charged extra in order to do so. I emailed HH to let them know that I found the pricing to be a little crazy, and their response was basically that the carrots were large (really?) and I could put them on my 'never' list if I don't want to get them next time. This response was subpar in my opinion and didn't address the actual issue. I do not have a problem with carrots, I have a problem paying almost $5 for 3 of them, and had I known they were charging those prices, I would have put them on my 'never' list. I will give HH another chance, but this kind of pricing and customer service might end up being a deal-breaker for me. read more

We love getting veggies and fruit every week! The delivery is perfect because we don't have to plan out that part of our groceries. We meal plan around the bounty! Plus and this is a huge plus, the fruit is always delicious. On the day it arrives it is scrumptious. I don't know how they manage this but it youre expecting weird fruit that's sad and bruised beyond recognition you'll be surprised with delicious fresh crisp juicy fruit. My kids bring the box in, rip it open and eat several pieces of fruit and veggies. read more

I absolutely love this service ! So far the fruits and veggies have been super fresh ! The one time I had an issue with something they immediately credited me. I am also easily getting $50+ worth of produce for about $35. I like how you can add produce staples like lemons , apple, herbs, avocados etc to your order. The customer service is also super nice and attentive . I will remain a customer for a long time ! read more

Love me my Hungry Harvest! I have to selfishly admit that having fresh fruit and veggies delivered to my front door--saving me a weekly trip to the grocery store--might be my favorite part. But that combined with the quality and variety of produce I receive AND feeling good about helping to reduce food waste--how could you not love this? I love Hungry Harvest! The fruit and vegetables are much cheaper than they would be at the grocery store and they are delivered to my house. It makes healthy eating much easier and has greatly improved my diet. HH has also introduced me to new fruits and vegetables that I would not otherwise have tried. Recently I ate fennel and loquats for the first time. I like that I can put deliveries on hold. I travel a lot so this feature is important to me. I also like that I can specify foods that I don't want included in my box. read more

Been a subscriber to Hungry Harvest since mid-Winter, and love this service! Quality of the product is generally very good to outstanding, and pricing on par or better with local supermarkets. You are notified several days in advance of what the weekly delivery will contain, and you can modify - add or subtract - according to taste. In addition to fruits and veg, they almost always have eggs, breads and a variety of dairy products. You know what else they have - world class, totally amazing customer service! You can reach out to them via a chat function on their website, and the team can fix problems on the spot. Lastly, it's really nice to know that you are doing a small part in helping with the problem of food waste in this country (as much as 40% of what is grown every year). We're on week two of receiving delivery from Hungry Harvest and so far so good! We're more than happy to use a giant zucchini or tiny apples that got rejected from the grocery store for their size - it all tastes the same! It's fun to see what we get each week, and to find recipes to make using the veggies. The subscription service has already inspired us each more veggies during the week, and to be inspired to cook more rather than grab take-out. Hopefully the habits stick! My whole life, I've dreamt of becoming a social entrepreneur, with the goal of changing the food system.My senior year at the University of Maryland, Hungry Harvest was born in my dorm basement.We began delivering to our first 30 customers, 15 of which were free trials, in June 2014. The beginning was excruciat-ingly difficult, as we knocked on doors in the sweltering DC summer desperately trying to convince anyone to get a free trial. The problem was that nobody knew what 'ugly produce' was at the time.

Oak Grove Farms kept popping up, so when I found myself with a free rainy Saturday afternoon, it became time for an official Peanut Butter Pie Procurement Mission. Now, Oak Grove Farms offers way more than peanut butter pie. Their farm market is stocked with fresh produce, baked goods, meats, dairy products, locally made items and all kinds of other goodies. But this particular Yelp review? This mission? Laser-focused on peanut butter pie. Before leaving home, I called to make sure I wouldn't drive over only to discover they'd sold out. The nice lady who answered the phone happily confirmed they still had peanut butter pie available. Mission status: ON! When I arrived, I was actually surprised by how busy the farm market was despite the rainy weather. Apparently a little rain isn't enough to keep folks away from Oak Grove, which is always a good sign. I walked straight inside and made an immediate beeline for the refrigerated pie case. There were only two individual slices of peanut butter pie left, so I grabbed one before anyone else could beat me to it. They also had half and whole pies available, but let's try to exercise at least a little self-control on the first visit. The damage? A whopping $2.49 for a slice of peanut butter pie. I actually laughed. That's almost suspiciously affordable these days. As I was heading toward the register, I made the mistake of walking past the whoopie pies. Or perhaps the best decision of the day. Five minutes later, I was walking out with not only my peanut butter pie but also a Shoofly Whoopie Pie for another $2.50. My picnic dessert situation had officially escalated. Fast forward a few hours...dinner was over. It was dessert time. The peanut butter pie absolutely lived up to the hype! The filling was light and fluffy while still delivering a rich peanut butter flavor in every bite. I'm usually not the biggest fan of chocolate cookie crusts on peanut butter pie because I think they sometimes overpower the filling, but this one worked beautifully. Even the little dollops of whipped topping around the edge added just the right finishing touch. This one has officially earned a spot near the top of my Central PA peanut butter pie rankings! And then...the Shoofly Whoopie Pie. I honestly bought it because I'd never seen one before and curiosity got the better of me. And, I'm really glad it did! It was incredibly moist with a rich molasses flavor that came through beautifully without being overwhelming. It was unlike any whoopie pie I've had before, and easily one of my favorite varieties I've tried in quite a while. Mission accomplished! While Oak Grove Farms is clearly much more than just a destination for desserts, this peanut butter pie expedition was an overwhelming success. A typical week includes two types of fruit, some sort of leafy green (salad greens in spring, kale and such later on), some sort of potatoes, an additional veggie (like peppers, onions, and/or eggplant), a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs. My girlfriend and I take one share, designed for a family of four, and we eat well all summer and fall and are able to save a significant amount for winter. They're usually open every Saturday with extra foods and meats for sale. Lastly, even though this is a family operation, they are always quick to credit their "workshares" - members who work picking and/or packing produce in exchange for reduced rates on their CSA. A local business worth supporting.

Tomatoes is one of my favorite foods and the ones here were huge, healthy looking and offered at a great price. I may also venture back for the bulk grains since they were reasonable priced. As I looked around, I heard the owner having a conversation with a customer about farming and other environmental topics and he really seems to know his stuff. Worth checking out next time you're in the Highlandtown area.

My family has tried various online "fresh food" companies, pre-made meal, you name it and they were just ok... usually the food did not last and was mediocre at best. We love our local famers market but even with our good intentions, we rarely made it on time. When my hubs stumbled upon FTF I was skeptical but really liked the idea of delivery, subscriptions and ala cart options and loved supporting our local farmers and businesses so we gave it a try. Here we are two yrs later and we still LOVE it! The fruits and veggies are so fresh that they typically arrive still covered in soil... this is actually our families favorite part! After about 6 months of receiving the subscriptions, we started ordering ala cart items and for the last year or so we've been getting about 75% of our weekly food from FTF. The meats, bakery, dairy and pantry items are all great! FTF is also not like a CSA where you tend to get the same items week after week. They have variety and this makes it fun for the whole family. We've received items that either we would never have chosen or had never eaten and we love it. If you are a meal planner than FTF is a wonderful option bc you get an email of the items that will come the following week and you have plenty of time to plan accordingly. The recipes and storage tips they provide are a great touch too. If you are traveling then it's super easy to suspend the service for as long as needed. Now, are they perfect, no however they do a darn good job fixing mistakes and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Sometimes there are missing or unavailable items and we will either receive a credit for or will get a little extra of another item. Personally, we would rather get that credit or extra item then a subpar product that would end up in the trash. There is a lot of talk in the reviews about the surprise email halting delivery to re-vamp and let me tell you, we were SAD... so sad but they worked hard to get back online and we were super excited to receive an email a week later announcing they were back up and running. Dealing with the logistics of fresh foods and delivery to the (very large) Balt-Wash area can not be easy, fresh food is very temperamental. The best part of it all... our 5yo son gets super excited to see the "red bags" on our front porch every week and he's learning about fresh foods and how important it is to support our local farmers. Before signing up for FTF, I used to get a Community Supported Agriculture membership every summer…read morefrom a local farm. There was only one size of share I could obtain and I had to be able to pick up the produce every week at the designated location during a specific time window. When they included anything I did not care for my only choice was to skip that week. With FTF I can choose a size that fits my lifestyle and my bag of produce is at my door step when I wake up in the morning of my delivery. And the FTF membership works all year long, so I continue to receive deliveries for every season. Everything is packed carefully and the produce is as clean as you would find it at the supermarket. Whenever they have planned to include something I do not wish to have, I can ask for a substitution. And I can even expand the delivery whenever I wish for something more by purchasing additional items in their marketplace. I have been with this service now for over three years and have seen them grow and try new things, always willing to correct whatever does not work well. The customer service has always been very responsive to me. I could not be happier and have recommended this service over and over to anyone who is interested in eating local and organic. I actually enjoy cooking and coming up with my own dishes based on whatever I receive, but FTF has also begun an option that gives you the ingredients for a recipe (kind of like Blue Apron, I suppose). They continue to expand their products offerings, truly growing into having something for everybody. I am happy to have been there from close to the start and have enjoyed seeing all the improvements. I don't wish to ever go without it.

Payment is based on the honor system since the owner can't always be there. They accept Venmo, PayPal and cash. I'd recommend not using cash unless you have exact change because you may not be able to make proper change. The driveway is gravel and there a a few parking spots. There is a big tree with swings right next to the small shack where they sell their items. I'm not sure if they let kids swing on the swings but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I saw the owner and he was helpful and pleasant to interact with.

Each week's vegetable share has a great variety of produce, and everything is much better (and much better priced) than equivalents from the grocery store. There are meat, chicken, egg and cheese shares available as well. Everything they sell is raised in a healthy, sustainable and ethical way. Each week the farm sends out an update with extras available at that week's pickup--like fruit (peaches and berries in the summer, apples in the fall), milk, fair trade coffee, and other local products. The weekly emails also include recipes with suggestions for how to use less familiar ingredients. Two years ago I'd never tasted kohlrabi, now it is one of my favorite vegetables. In addition the incredible food, the pickups (I attend the Alexandria pickup) are like a weekly party...there are always free cookies, and members often stick around to chat. Margaret and the other farmer staff members are always helpful and friendly.

The ticket included two glasses of wine. The menu was not printed online so we went in kinda blind on what was served. The first course was a roasted vegetable dish which consisted of broccoli, fingerling potatoes and pears with a Greek yogurt sauce. The second course was chicken thighs with risotto in a tomato sauce and the third course was a granola strudel with pears. There was also an arugula salad with grapefruit segments and parmesan cheese. I can be brutally honest, none of the courses were seasoned well. The first course was cold, the vegetables were wilted and did not mesh well. Was not expecting pears to be with my roasted vegetables. The second course was underwhelming as well. The food did not have any flavor and the dessert was not my favorite at all. I only ate the fruit out of the dessert. The chef did come out and let us know what each course was, however I felt that she really wasn't too personable with the guests. A few of the guests at the table were her friends so she only engaged with them, and of course they hyped her up, however the food was bland and underwhelming and the majority of the guests including myself did not finish their plates. If there is another community dinner, I hope it will be with a different chef in mind As I stated before my review is of the event, not the business as a whole.

A friend signed me up for a few mini fruit harvest boxes as a birthday gift last year. I've always been wary of meal-kit delivery services, their price, and the overuse of packaging - but Hungry Harvest is not like that AT ALL. It's much closer to a CSA, with fresh produce you can use any way you'd like, and the packaging is mostly paper-based and recyclable. (Sometimes food comes in clamshells, but that's only for a few items.) Plus I hoard to reusable freezer packs they use in the summer for my own picnics/trips/etc. I now get a bi-weekly mini mixed harvest, ($15!) which gives me a lot of food. Without a doubt everything I get has been fresh, tasty, and sometimes unexpected. It's prompted me to try new dishes and new flavors. I really like adding on staples as well - the garlic is amazing! Plus lemons, limes (for margaritas) and bread from Atwaters & H&S is a treat. There are some foods I really don't like (mangos) and they have an option for you to opt-out of getting those foods when they're in season, and instead they substitute it with a comparable item (usually oranges, much better.) I live in Balt. city, and it's very helpful they text me when my box has arrived so I can go fetch it before it disappears. I really have nothing bad to say about this service - it's very reasonably priced, uses low amounts of non-recyclable packaging, has always been fresh and includes great fruits and veggies. Though the spaghetti squash did have a "dirt spot" on one side, which is common for squash. Everything in the box was well packed and cooled by a gel pack and it came with a how-to guide for storing different produce. Once I emptied the box, I noticed the gel pack was leaking in the box and luckily it hadn't on the produce. One of my items was swapped, brussels sprouts for a zucchini, which I was a bit bummed about but did read that items may be swapped for several reasons. Also I customized my box for extra minneola and subbed apples, and added several add-on items from their marketplace. Delivery was prompt, however I received a notice for it about 5 min. before it was delivered, which is a very quick heads up. A notification (email/text) for confirmation that an order processed then one for shipped for delivery (once leaving the warehouse) would be better in my opinion. Overall, I would buy again and recommend this service to others that would like to try produce that they may have never eaten before or for the convenience. read more

I highly recommend Hungry Harvest. Of course I want to support saving fruits and vegetables from winding up in the landfill, and of course I want to contribute towards HH's laudable practices of hiring the homeless and ex-offenders, as well as donating produce to the needy. But in addition to that -- getting Hungry Harvest is really fun! Every other week a box of fruits and vegetables are left at my door. The driver texts me to let me know when he will arrive, so I know when to expect it. I love to see what is inside each box (I feel like I am opening a present) and HH has helped to get me out of my produce comfort zone. A few things have been included in the box that I have actually had to google to find out what it was and how to use it! (Hungry Harvest also discusses such topics in their newsletter.) I have found HH to be very responsive, easily cancelling and restarting delivery when we are on vacation, and not including fruits and veggies in my box that I have put on my "Never" list. All around, a great concept, and a great socially conscious company. Their e-mails are friendly and useful, often including recipes, but not overwhelming in number. Definitely give them an A Plus! read more

Excellent! My wife & I have been getting the $25 box every other week for about a year. It's awesome. We've only thrown away 1 or 2 pieces, the entire time. We don't have to spend nearly as much at the grocery store (peapod!), we eat more heathily (is that a word? no? well, it is now!), and we get to be a lot more lazy -- food just comes to us. And they make good on the 50%-off referral thingy. I've definitely cashed in on that. The add-ons are fun to occasionally throw in, too. I pretty much never run out of onions anymore. I actually eat apples again. Potatoes & sweet potatoes are great. I always eat the tomatoes on day 1, if any are available. And they do indeed heed your "suggestions" on how to modify the "you don't quite know what you're getting" order. For example, I might get onions & apples instead of grapefruits & eggplants, which I can't stand. It works. We may even step up to a $25 box every week, or a $35 box every other week. We're not sure yet, but we go through our other food so much more slowly, now that we have all this healthy produce all the time. We want to increase the goodness :) read more

I've received 3 deliveries from Hungry Harvest so far. So far I am impressed with this company. I get the organic mini harvest each week. My diet revolves around vegetables and proteins (Paleo) with a few fruits added in on occasion. Because I can customize my order and eliminate the fruits I don't eat, I get only the items that fit my diet template. The vegetables have always been a very good quality. No complaints there. my first order came with mangos and star fruit which were not good at all. I'm learning that non seasonal fruits are not reliable, even in the grocery stores. I've had a missing items from 2, however their customer service is so good that they credited me immediately for those missing items. I love the fact that it's delivered to my door with text messages from the driver telling me when he is on his way with the ability to text him, that I can skip deliveries whenever I choose, customize my order and add on items that are not included with the selected "share". The company is doing a service to eliminate waste and end hunger. read more

We started getting our Hungry Harvest CSA last week and have been absolutely impressed so far. Our first bag had a great variety of fruits and vegetables that we used to make dinner the first night we had them. This week, we weren't able to pick our food up during normal hours (we are in an area where we walk about five blocks to get our food--super easy). I contacted Hungry Harvest to see what I could do about this and within hours I had an email back that said they would deliver our bag directly to our door this week, no problem. The customer service is wonderful, the mindset and problem solving behind Hungry Harvest's model is well-thought through and comprehensive. Their weekly email newsletter provides us with recipes that are tailored to the specific foods we will be receiving in our bags, which I think is brilliant and super helpful. This is an organization that is doing a lot of things right, and I can't wait to keep supporting them and cooking creatively with the produce they are providing. read more

I've been subscribing to Hungry Harvest for about 9 months now and couldn't be happier. My boyfriend and I receive a full harvest every two weeks, which is a perfect supplement to our store-bought groceries. I love that Hungry Harvest gives me the flexibility to opt-out of produce I don't like and add individual items, like herbs. It's also introduced me to a number of new fruits that I probably wouldn't have tried on my own, like starfruit and Asian pears (so tasty!). I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the deliveries. Oftentimes the food is even better than the produce from the grocery store. To anyone who might be skeptical about "rejected" fruits and veggies: I've never had any issue with the freshness of any item I've received. The price given the amount and quality of the food -- especially considering that it includes delivery -- is a steal! We LOVE getting our Hungry Harvest box on our door step each week! It is such a fun surprise for the kids to open it up and see what treats await us. And we have such a ball laughing at some of the oddly shaped or colored produce, and wondering why stores would want to reject THIS?!! It is a GREAT lesson for the kids to learn, regarding food appreciation and waste, and we adults are so grateful for a program that reduces that waste. We are all proud supporters of this group. And the food is great quality - only twice in 4 months have we gotten something that SHOULD have been rejected! I love that we can also still get organic produce. One of the best parts - LESS GROCERY shopping! ESPECIALLY appreciated when we return home from many weekends away, and have a box of fresh produce ready for us to enjoy that week. I've been enjoying my Hungry Harvest box for several months now and the Coronavirus that's been keeping us homebound has proven to be the best part of being at home. I look forward to every Sunday to see what's in the box and I find myself logging in to see what I've ordered in addition to my regular harvest. I've belonged to CSA's in the past but found them to be lacking when it comes to fruit. Not so with Hungry Harvest. And the eggs are to die for. Love having it delivered to my front porch, especially at this point in time. Loving the communications from staff when they're on their way to the house or an item is out of stock or they can't provide an item that we expected. I don't think I've ever been disappointed in Hungry Harvest and I've done my best to recommend them to others, especially those who have had to travel to farms for their boxes. I've used services like this before that don't let you choose your produce, which makes meal planning on a busy schedule nearly impossible. Hungry Harvest gives you the ability to personalize your delivery and make staples reoccurring (for us, onions, apples, and eggs). You can skip a week too if needed. The produce itself is usually of good quality, though it's often necessary to let things ripen on the counter before using them. If anything is damaged or too ripe to use upon delivery (a rare occurrence, but it happens), they are quick to refund the value of the produce. PITFALL - It's tempting to over-utilize the personalization and waaaaay over order! Start small and increase your harvest if needed. You can add things on pretty easily, even to a small harvest. My husband and I cook from home five days a week and pack lunches, and we usually do the mini harvest with 3 or 4 add on items. read more

We get the full organic box twice a month and we LOVE it. While the veggies are recovered they last for quite a while in the fridge. It's fun to find new recipes for veggies that we would never ordinarily buy....Parsnip or Turnip Fries anyone? They also have add-ons that you can get with every delivery or on specific deliveries of your choice: homemade granola, salsas, jams, jellies, herbs, peanut butter, coffee, etc. The staff are responsive, friendly and patient. They also send a weekly email about what your getting, why it's being recovered and offer recipes for the items in your box. BUT THE BEST THING - they give away so much produce in inner city areas where access to an actual grocery store with fresh produce is non existent (most of these areas have only bodegas/convenient stores which offer little produce) . I cannot say enough good things about this company!! read more

We've been subscribers to Hungry Harvest for about a half year and love it! Prices are reasonable, variety is phenomenal, quality of food is good to great, service is reliable. They pay attention to delivery instructions and on the rare occasion when something goes wrong, they are very responsive. In case you're not familiar with HH, they rescue, pack up and deliver customized boxes of produce to you. This is produce that would have been thrown out because it doesn't meet picture perfect grocery store standards (too big or small, misshapen or scarred) or was produced in excess (crop yield exceeded store demands). The produce is fresh and tasty. In addition to reducing food waste, HH also works with city neighborhood food deserts. Their website lets you easily modify your order and makes canceling a delivery (vacation, etc.) really easy. You should try it! read more

I have never been disappointed or unhappy with my harvest. I absolutely look forward to my delivery every week. I get an email on Thursday to let me know what will be in my harvest and i sit down and plan my grocery shopping and meals around my harvest. It is a wonderful way to stay on the healthy track. I am so so happy i signed up for this wonderful harvest. Also customer service has always been very helpful and I have absolutely no complaints. I one time got a text that my delivery was running behind and i was afraid i was going to be gone before the delivery got here. It was one of those super hot days. I emailed customer service which responded in like 2 minutes telling me my delivery would be by 2pm - an hour before i was leaving. So i didnt have to worry about my harvest sitting in the heat and possibly getting ruined. So pleased read more

Representing the NC area. I have yet to be disappointed in my Hungry Harvest (HH) delivery, the small veggie box, even when there are last minute swap outs. The veggies are varied from week to week and, while they may be misshapen or ugly, are still completely edible. Who cares about how they look, I'm going to cut them up anyway. The internet provides recipes galore, all I have to do is type in the veggies I have on hand and viola. Yesterday's dinner was Swiss chard, snow peas, and beef stir fry - delicious ! HH has truly made me a more versatile "chef" and I am eating much, MUCH better nutritiously. I would never think to buy many of the veggies I get in my weekly delivery. I have, for years, passed them up in the grocery store for the more traditional veggies. My purse, pallet, and physical well-being are pleased with HH. read more

This is a company that does such good work, everyone should be a member. It prevents waste of usable food, donates to those less fortunate and provides a wonderful variety of ugly food that is delicious. My husband and I have become more attuned to trying new foods and recipes. The price is right, the food is delivered to your door( they even inform you when they are coming.) They are always responsive to calls and emails. This is the perfect company to do business with as they help so many different people in different situations. We have never been disappointed. The twice monthly deliveries are perfect for our two person household. I feel that they are a much better bargain than CSA's. I can only encourage everyone to join and help save food and people. read more

So worth it! I love the variety of the box, and the ability to change around your veggies if there's something you don't want, or want more of. The suggested recipes that I've tried have been great. The box is delivered on time, they text to let you know it's on the way and has arrived, and you get emails ahead of time to tell you what's available that week + any available add-ons. Customer service has been great + really responsive. I get the small veggie box and it's enough for a week for my boyfriend and I--we buy supplemental meat and occasionally pasta, but the majority of what we eat is from hungry harvest! The price is incredibly reasonable and it's cool to know I'm helping save otherwise thrown-away veggies. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Started receiving Hungry Harvest earlier this year and I've been a huge fan ever since. I loath spending my limited free time going to the grocery store, so Hungry Harvest provides a cheaper, healthier alternative delivered right to my door on Sundays. The produce has always been good and I've been able to experiment with new foods on a week by week basis. The deliveries allow for customization, so I never receive foods I won't eat. As a single, twenty-something, the quantity is enough to last me a full week given that I'll eat out several times as well. On top of all the individual benefits, I'm supporting a good cause and making a difference. It's a big win in multiple categories. Looking forward to continuing in 2019! read more

I dread the day when I no longer live in an area that Hungry Harvest serves. I just hope that they continue to spread across the US. It is an amazing service run by dedicated people who care about their community and the environment. I have zero complaints and highly recommend HH to everyone I know! The prices are fantastic, I'm using fruits and veggies in recipes that I normally wouldn't even think to buy, and I feel better about my purchases knowing that otherwise the food would be going to waste. On top of all of this, you can cancel or pause your subscription at any time. I honestly don't know why everyone that can benefit from HH's service doesn't. I received my first bag of Hungry Harvest organic produce yesterday. It was on my front porch in a refrigerated bag as promised. Almost all of the produce items were the cream of the crop, albeit one of two red-leaf lettuce that was a bit too wilted and mushy to eat. Some items were over the amount promised (a whole lot of rainbow carrots). Other items were well below (only one yam when six were listed) or not included (missing kale). I've helped bag produce at precious locations and understand that the number of items vary and bags have to be arranged to make it most fair for all recipients. Happy with the selection and plan on buying another bag. Love the idea of a bag going to someone in need with my purchase! read more

I cannot give enough praise for the mission, personnel and quality of this company. What a wonderfully easy way to make a continuous contribution to local food insecure families! The customer service is beyond attentive and make sure that the customer is satisfied. Delivery to your workplace by partnering with places like Baltimore County Public Schools is unbelievably easy. Receiving our harvest each week is like opening up a birthday or Christmas present... So much fun! But best of all...the harvest makes you step outside your broccoli and green bean comfort zone! What's more, the contents of the harvest are customizable....I am so thrilled to be able to participate in this program. It is fabulous!! read more
