Stopped in for an easy dinner with my father while visiting him. As far as bang for your buck goes, this is a pretty good deal, and you can feed the whole family for a fairly reasonable price. I'm not going to BS that this is fantastic food, you get what you pay for, but for $16/adult, $11/kids, you'll get a containing a good variety of pizza flavors, a decent salad bar, a few pasta options, 2 soups, dessert pizza, and it includes your drink. The restaurant was fairly clean, and staff were friendly, came by regularly to clear dirty plates from our table, and bring fresh plates for our next visit to the buffet. Drinks are self serve at the soda fountain. As i mentioned, they had a good variety of pizza options, but the waitress let us know if there were any we didn't see on the buffet, we could have custom ones made up as well. It was a very laid back atmosphere, family friendly, OK food, but a good variety, and friendly staff. Wouldn't be top of my list to go back to, but it's an option read more

Ordered take out from Hungry Howie's - needed a quick bite and had a craving for pizza. Wasn't familiar with the chain - just needed some food for the night. Local restaurant is just a couple miles away so places an on line order. Website was easy to navigate - completed order and headed to restaurant. Restaurant is set up for a pizza buffet and I didn't get a good look but basically it's about $16 currently for an adult buffet with a drink. Ordered garlic butter crust and it appeared to be overdone - oil ran out of the box all over the seat of the vehicle and soaked the box. We were in the area visiting an decided to give this a try. Pizza buffets are popular where we're from so it was nice to have a comparison. The price seemed a little steep at $15. They say free drink but it's definitely built into their price for sure. There was a lot of variety with cheese bread, a stuffed pizza slices, typical flavors of pizzas like pepperoni, cheese, white, veggie, sausage etc. there was dessert pizza, pastas and a salad bar. I've never been to a Hungry Howie's buffet before! I've only ever seen take out locations, so finding this buffet store was new for me and awesome! My husband has been here before with his family in the past and he was very excited. You come in and seat yourself, somebody brings you cups for drinks that are included in the $10 price, and several plates for your food. You get up whenever you want to get whatever you want. I was surprised to see such a variety of pizzas and pastas and soups and desserts! This place is much better than Cici's ever will be. The pizza is so much more flavorful, and they replace them with new fresh pizzas often, even if it means throwing out the old. I like that! Fresh food is good food. They had great cheesy garlic bread and pizza rolls, 4 different soups, 4 or 5 different dessert pizzas (the chocolate one is outta this world!) and an entire separate salad bar. Everything I got was pretty awesome! Especially the minestrone soup with sausage! Had lots of flavor. I was pretty happy with everything except the kids that were running around our table the entire time screaming and even touching us and our table. Still hope to visit again soon! read more

My work crew and I went to the Hungry Howies in Ellenton on US-301 (actually 18th St). All of us ordered large subs but they refused to honor their own e-mail special they sent to me today. The special is for Wacky Wednesday. A large sub is suppose to be $7.99 but they charged us $12.99 each plus tax. Look at the attached picture. Call the physical store before hand ! Showed up at 8:45PM on a Thursday after driving a half hour to try this place out and the doors were locked and the employees just shook their head no when making eye contact with me. Called for dine in hours and got told dine in closes at 10:45PM. Really wanted to try the place out since there's a lot of good reviews ! Let's be honest, this is a 3.5 star experience if you take it at face value. Average tasting pizza amongst other carb-rich tomatoey, buttered and cheesed or meated-up simple items that leave you feeling ashamed shortly after consumption. But forgetting that, I had a great waitress and the staff did an excellent job of keeping the lines tidy. My biggest fear was that this place was going to be as gross as a Chuck E Cheese with pizza as bad as Marco's. So thankful that combo didn't surface! For what it's worth (~$10) I felt this stop was justified by the salad bar alone. It's not a Sweet Tomatoes inspired spread, but it was spectacularly fresh and orderly. That takes effort and good management, so my hat goes off to them. After reading some other reviews, I feel stupid for not ordering a specialty pizza to the line like I had done at Cici's up north. Pizza was loaded with toppings and on time. Appreciate the customer service every time I come in for a pick up. But one thing that I would like to see changed is some kind of wax paper or barrier to protect the cardboard box. Manatee county does not have the resources to recycle the bottom half of pizza boxes. Thousands of these could be recycled if Hungry Howies spend a penny more by laying wax paper underneath the pizza. Please consider for all of us. read more

This one is more of a buffet style then the one I've been to in Tallahassee. The one in Tallahassee is more you just order your pizza and take it Togo. I like more that style better. This one is more you sit down and eat which is alright. The pizza is still good so that's a plus. read more

ELLENTON GO TEACH SR70 On July 20, 2021 I arrived at the SR70 location and ordered a Meat Eater's Deep Dish. I waited 12 minutes then went to check if it was ready (not my first time at the rodeo). An employee saw me looking for something and asked what it was. I told him and he said that it would be a few more minutes. I sat down and waited. After nine more minutes, I went back up looking. My Server saw me and asked how much longer it was for the Deep Dish she ordered. The same guy said five more minutes. How does a 10 minute pizza take 25 minutes to cook when after 12 minutes it was only supposed to be a few more minutes? It had been a long day and I was starving, but the lies just pissed me off. I told the Sever that if takes five more minutes, they didn't put it in when ordered. I told her that I was leaving, and handed her the plate in my hand. She apologized for it not being ready. I asked who the manager was, and come to find out, it was the employee who was lying the entire time. He didn't even apologize. He just headed for the back. Well, I'm still hungry, having not had an actual meal, so I head to the Ellenton store. It's around 8:30ish PM, I sit down, the Server comes over and I order a Meat Eater's Deep Dish. Twelve minutes later it comes out. I get what I want, along with some items from the Salad Bar, sit down and start enjoying my food. My Server, Kaela, checks up on me a few times to make sure all is well. I get up to check out the desserts when I noticed that they are all gone. Shocked I asked what happened. She said that it was closing time (I thought they closed at 11, my apologies). When the timers go off, they have to discard the food. She then asks me what I want, they will make it for me. WHAT?!? It's closing time and you're going to make me a dessert pizza that I would only have 1 or 2 slices of? THIS IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! I declined the pizza, as I used to work in Food Service, and I'm not putting them through that. I Thanked her and told her what happened to me at the other store. She was shocked. She said that both were owned by the same owners. I was shocked. I went to pay, and the person taking the money asked how everything was. I told him what happened and his eyes got big. I said that it was funny how the other store had way more employees working and couldn't do their job. He mentioned that they had less due to being understaffed that night, and that he is the Delivery Driver helping out. A Delivery Driver helping out was making sure I had a good experience, when a manager at the other location just walked away?!? This is how you run a business. Ellenton take a trip to SR70 and teach them how it's done! The only drawback to the Ellenton location is that they no longer have Diet Dew. read more

I ordered a cheese pizza from this location and put a note that said no meat just cheese. They deliver the pizza to my house and it's a pepperoni pizza. This is the third time this has happened. My daughter graduated tonight. Needed 10 pies for after party. Fox 13 weather radar app on phone had a large 2 topping pizza $6.99 special. Ellenton Manager Melony refused to honor it, made no effort to accommodate and walked away. Went to Papa Johns in Ellenton, told manager what happened. He appalogised for HOWIE and said he'd take care of it. I left with 10 pies and a cookie for $ 74.00. Papa Johns understands customer service. Coming from Detroit, Hungry Howies is a familiar name. But the pizza buffet was different from the average Michigan Hungry Howies. There was plenty of seating, the service was fast and efficient. There were tons of pizzas hot and fresh up on the bar, and the salad bar was nice and fresh too. Kids loved the pastas, and especially the pizza with pasta on top.
