If Queenscliff has the best fish and chips in Victoria, then "Under the Sea" would have to rate a solid 4 stars in comparison. They had perhaps the biggest prawns that I have ever seen (several people did a double-take as they walked past the shop window) and their fish looked and tasted very fresh. Came here for a Good Beer Week event with Sixpoints Brewery and had a dreamy time. (Sixpoints Brews at 5 Point Deli! I just got that.) The special was a Sixpoint brew accompanied by a jerk chicken burger for $20. How could I resist? The burger was so good, the chicken wasn't overcooked and was jerk seasoned to juicy perfection. Their appetizer of fried chicken tenders was so yummy, and came with a cheesy biscuit and cracked pepper white gravy. This was my first time seeing southern-style gravy at a restaurant in Australia, so obviously, I was stoked, that biscuit and gravy combo took me straight back home, and I loved it. I already prefer this venue over Le Bon Ton. Not too compare siblings or anything, because Le Bon Ton has a lot to offer, but I thought this menu was more intriguing. Love the setting, it's not dark and voodoo-ish, like Le Bon Ton. There's a sunroof portion letting in natural light, with wood everything. Staff was hands down, amazing. Every single host/waiter/waitress/manager was friendly and so welcoming. Seriously, even the barman greeted us with hello. I couldn't tell you the last time I had such a good customer service experience like that. Can't wait to come back to explore this menu further.

Thankfully I brought along my partner in crime so we could go splitsies on two. We ordered the "world famous smoked pastrami" and the turkey club. Which they could also get away with calling "best club sandwich in town". Both were huge (not side-splitting ridiculous) sandwiches, served with a mound of seasoned crisps and a pickle. Come hungry though. Both were so delicious. The turkey club was my personal favourite and shouldn't be overlooked in all the excitement over the pastrami. The pastrami is thick, smokey and not like any other I've had in Melbourne. Thicker than what they use on the poutine. I love pickles, but must admit I throw a lot away when people try to offer them up at American style places. Not here though, they are perfect. I ate both of them. They also offer an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast here. Grabbed a couple seats which was easy because no one was there. The bagel came out and it was filled with cream cheese and smoked salmon. St Collins Lane seems to be struggling to get its feet off the ground. It still appears to be half under construction, with only a few clothing stores, a cafe, and this burger place open. I can tell that St Collins Lane is expected to be a pretty high-end place once it finally gets some retail tenants, so this fast-food burger joint seems a bit incongruous with its surroundings. And it makes for a weird, somewhat depressing vibe, eating in a half-vacant supposed-to-be-high-end shopping mall. Nevertheless, Burger Project is popular, with massive lines at lunchtime. Luckily, the queue moves fast (they give you a buzzer thingie so you can go collect your food when it's ready), so it's a good place for a quick lunch. Unfortunately, the food wasn't that great and I'm not just saying that because I'm vegan -- nobody at the table seemed really wowed with their food. Just average burgers, not really worth the hype (or the queue, even if it was fast-moving). As a vegan, I had to get my burger in a lettuce wrap ("burger in a bowl") because the bun is not vegan. (Strike one. Like, really, why do places try to be fancy-pants by putting egg wash on their buns to make them "pretty"? Really unnecessary.) I also had to ask for no mushroom crumbs because they contain egg whites. (Seriously.) So basically I got a big ol' portobello (the "Magic Mushroom") in a bowl with some lettuce. The burger and fries were delicious and it was the perfect first lunch in Melbourne! My husband and I returned 4 times during our trip and loved everything we had! The funniest thing to me is that my husband asked them the origin of the name of the shop and discovered that it had NOTHING to do with Lord of the Flies! Rather, the owner of the shop loved Lord of the Ring and so that is where the inspiration was derived. I almost subtracted one star for the missed opportunity - Lord of the Onion Rings (kidding!). This place was great and everything seemed to be made to order. It took about 5 min or less to get my food, which gave me plenty of time to people watch at Flinders Station!
