This was hands-down, the best meal we had in this town. We've been trying different restaurants every night and this one was a home run. It was also $200 for the three of us to eat here but holy moly the service was amazing and the food was the best ever. My daughter and I got the salmon and ate everything. My husband got the filet mignon and it was cooked so perfectly. Everybody's meals were cooked so perfectly. I wish I could afford to come here every night. Torrey, Utah is a small town. Like 200 residents small. In my travels, I've found that good food is hard to come by in these places. Hunt and gather has dispelled me of that notion, because HOT DAM this is good food! We had heard that Hunt and Gather was a place to get a good meal, so we made a reservation a few days ahead. We were seated promptly, by a friendly hostess. The wine and drink list was good, we were all able to easily find things we liked. My friend and I shared a bottle of White Wine, as we intended to have lighter meals. The server was VERY conscious of and accommodating to my allergies, which is always appreciated. For main, I chose a piece of trout, my favorite fish. It was beautifully seasoned and prepared. It came with roasted potatoes and vegetables and a creamy sauce that was fantastic. It went very well with the wine we had chosen. For dessert I had a piece of the Sweet Potato pie, which was delightful, however, my husband won the dessert round with his praline ice cream. Next time I roll through Torrey, UT I will happily dine at Hunt and Gather again. read more

This place did not disappoint. Such an awesome menu. The Antelope appetizer was incredible, tender, flavorful. Definitely a must. For dinner, my wife had one of the specials, Cast Iron Steak Marsala, and it was an absolute flavor bomb. The steak medallions were flawless. I went for the Buffalo Ribeye. It was cooked properly but a bit lean for my liking. Nothing like a beef ribeye. But the dish was good, and the potatoes and vegetables were great. Their ice cream is made in house and OMG was it great. I also ordered the Sweet Potato Bourbon Pecan Pie because... sweet potato pie for dessert? Yes please. My wife got the flourless chocolate cake and it's one of the better ones (if not best) we've ever had. Super happy, very impressed, and not at all what we expected the dining experience to be like in a tiny rural town. Also, we were here at the end of May and sat outdoors. The views were just gorgeous and the weather was perfect. I hope this little restaurant flourishes. They deserve it! read more

The menu was interesting with varied dishes. The atmosphere was relaxed but upscale too. The service was friendly and helpful but I took one star off because the pacing was poor and our server was not around too often. They use a system where the servers take tables in rotation as customers come in. That resulted in all the tables around us having one server and us having another server. Our server also had tables outside and also at the other end of the restaurant. He had to run all over the place and we were his only table at our end of the restaurant. I don't blame him. Management should consider using a station system like 99% of restaurants use. Better for the customer and better for the server. read more

Amazing spot to visit for dinner when exploring Capitol Reef National Park! Delicious food, great service and a well kept dining room! Started with the bread assortment, which came with 5 different rolls and butter. They were served warm and all were equally delicious. For my entree, I ordered the duck and oh my goodness, it was SO GOOD! I haven't had duck prepared this well in quite some time. Amazing food and service. My husband and I always go out for a nice meal at the end of our vacation and this did not disappoint. We shared the antelope and bread for our appetizer and both were good. I got the special filet tip marsala and my husband got the elk dish. Both were very tender and amazing. If you are a wine drinker, make sure you bring your own with a $15 cork fee, totally worth it. To finish off our meal I got the sweet potato bourbon pecan pie and hubby got the plum bread putting, perfect completion to our meal. I was disappointed with the entire meal quite honestly, outside of the bread. The antelope and the filet mignon had the same "barbecue" glacé, which was so disappointing on a $51 steak. No butter in sight either when I asked for no bleu cheese. The mashed potatoes were decent, and the veggies were tasty. Presentation was lovely. No one bothered to turn on the heaters near us despite voicing this with servers near earshot. The creme brûlée lacked the hard surface and was fridge cold on the inside, not what creme brûlée should be like. Then, despite mentioning it was a birthday, no one bothered to do anything special for my friend (such as writing happy birthday on the dessert we ordered). I have had better service many other places. For the price, I expected more than a sweet baby rays sauce on my steak. Hard pass next time. Don't believe the hype. read more

The meticulous procurement of only fresh local produce is so evident a child can see it. If you appreciate fine food, fresh local produce (much from their own greenhouse), much locally sourced meat, delightful ambiance, you should not miss this lovely restaurant. I great unique menu in Southern Utah. If you want 4 to 5 star food in this Capital Reef adjacent town, come here. They have a variety of protein choices. The menu was a little small: appetizers for example. No side or house salad options either. I usually order several items from a menu, but I found myself only ordering an entree. What a wonderful surprise. We were exploring all the National Parks in Utah and had just arrived at Capital Reef after an amazing drive to get there! A local recommended this restaurant and we had possibly the best meal we had on our entire trip. Our party of 4 each ordered something different and all meals were delicious. Truly a gem of a restaurant in the most unlikely of places. I come from Newport Beach, California, and gourmet restaurants abound. So, little did I expect to find such great food in Torrey, Utah. My wife and I sat outdoors under heaters and exchanged pleasantries with another couple who were just finishing their dinner, and raving about the food. We took their advice, ordered the evening's specials and our biggest regret is that we had to move on with our travels the following morning. I could have eaten here every night for a week. Oh, and did I mention that the service was impeccable, friendly and informative, but not intrusive if you wanted some quiet conversation. We were surprised to find a restaurant like this so close to Capitol Reef NP. The place has a high end vibe and so does the menu. While a little pricey, we really enjoyed our meal at Hunt and Gather. I had the trout and it was delicious. My wife had the fillet and it was good. The fillet was 8oz so big enough to share some with me! They had this red wine blend that we both really liked...highly recommend. We had a small issue with service, but nothing major. The server for the table next to us was the son of the owners (I believe) and he was fantastic (but not our server unfortunately)! Overall, I do recommend this place. This was an extraordinary surprise for us while in Torrey visiting Capitol Reef National Park on our tour of the Mighty Five. By far the best restaurant in all the locations! Excellent quality food and service in a casual atmosphere. The smoked duck was one of the best I've ever had. Also on the menu: grilled elk, steak and trout as well as two excellent vegetarian platters (among my group we had them all and there were smilies all around the table). Surprise! A truly amazing restaurant in the middle of rural Utah! Who knew!? Oh, man! I could go on and on about this wonderful jewel! Hunt & Gather is every bit as good as any fine restaurant you would find in every foodie destination. We heard somebody mention it at our hotel, so we set out to find it. We got there early and without a reservation, so we got a table on their sunny patio without delay. If you're headed this way, especially weekends, call ahead for a reservation because you don't wanna miss out! First off, as it's very cleverly revealed in their name, the menu is divided between two concepts.... Hunt, as in meat... and Gather, as in vegetarian. And not just a smattering of gratuitous vegetable dishes, either.... fully half the offerings are vegetarian. Now, we're not vegetarians, but we found ourselves excited by many of the vegetarian dishes. This is one of those menus where everything looks so good that you can't make up your mind! The vegetarian and seafood dishes (yes, wonderful seafood, out here in the sticks!) never left us craving meat. And although the meat and game dishes were inviting, we had seafood, mushroom risotto, and the duck (A-may-Zing!) It's all farm-to-table....as locavore as possible, and they are proud of their community partnerships. I think I even saw a large veggie/herb garden just out back! We had Lobster Bisque, King Crab Salad (King of the Castle), Mushroom Risotto (made with Goat Cheese), and The Wood Smoked Duck (cooked to tender perfection! The portions are ample, and tastes flew back and forth from one plate to the other. The excitement was, well, ....palatable. Plus the fair prices are nothing like those city-slicker tabs! We should mention that Erika, our wait-person, was so helpful. She paced the meal perfectly, and was a charming guide through the menu. This gem of a restaurant would be a hit anywhere ... New York, Santa Fe, San Francisco, ... but Chef Chet and his charming wife, Nancy, at the front of the house, have brought cosmopolitan taste to down home Utah. So, that's about as concise as I can make it, here. The latest post-Covid rage is to tour the natural wonders of Utah's National and State Parks, so you practically HAVE to go through Torrey. Don't take that once in a lifetime trip without dining at Hunt & Gather (Thursday - Sunday). read more
