Fantastic restaurant in Torrey. We didn't have a reservation but they got us in about 30 minutes later. We didn't mind as we weren't starving right away and wanted to check it out. Didn't seem like there were many good options in town anyway. We both got the trout chowder. It tasted pretty good but didn't get any trout flavor and didn't see any trout in the soup really. We got the mushroom risotto and steak for our entrees. The risotto was delicious and loved the flavor. The steak was cooked perfectly! The bread and butter was perfect to start the meal. The food was incredible! We had a party of 5 on vacation touring the canyons. This restaurant advertised as reservations only but we got lucky. We were seated immediately after a long drive from Bryce Canyon. The waitress brought out water and bread with butter immediately. The bread and butter was delicious. We ordered cocktails and some appetizers. The antelope was sooooo good as was the pear/walnut honey drizzled bread crust AND the mushroom soup was the best I've ever had. I wanted more! Then we ordered entrees- we had shrimp, elk and 3 rainbow trout. Each dish was perfectly cooked, served properly and tasted fantastic. The best trout I've ever had. I haven't had many meals I keep talking about afterwards. Our dinner at Hunt & Gather was one of those stellar meals. It was so good, in fact, I would give it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Our appetizer, the antelope with cherry demi-glace, was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Definitely order this! The filet mignon was also absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Our other entree was the risotto which we also enjoyed. The Moscow mule we ordered was pretty weak, but honestly the food and service were so exceptional, I didn't hold this against them. Our dinner was on a Saturday and reservations were needed. They have extensive outdoor seating with heaters and also a large indoor space. I highly recommend Hunt & Gather and would even consider making a trip out there just for dinner! read more

We have been to Hunt & Gather for breakfast once and dinner twice so far, we will be back soon. It's great having fine dining so close to home. Be sure to try the charcuterie board! What a wonderful Surprise! While staying in Torrey and visiting Capitol reef we happened upon the Hunt and Gather. The food and experience was as nice as any fine dining restaurant we have eaten at. Our waiter Kerry was very attentive and walked us thru the menu nicely and provides excellent service the entire evening We started with Tartine trio. Delicious! For main we had Antelope . I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I love their Slow Food concept. The service was superb. This was the finest meal and best service we have received in a very long time. Our waiter knew exactly how long to wait to check in on us throughout the meal and was very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Absolutely loved the Etta Place 435 cider. As an LA girl, I was blown away to find such fine dining in Torrey, Utah as we journeyed through the Mighty 5. We made reservations for 6PM and were seated immediately when we arrived early. It is actually a good sized restaurant with two medium sized dining rooms and a patio. It has the look of a converted house with a graveled parking lot. The staff is incredibly friendly. They really class the joint up as hikers wearily order food. Amy was a top notch professional. We didn't think that they had a kids' menu, so we had negotiated with our LOs as to what we were going to order and share. So, we decided to stick with our original plan and order and share. We started with the grilled asparagus, which had a mustard sauce and roasted red bell pepper. Grilled perfection that was still al dente. We then shared the Utah schnitzel (literally in the shape of the state), which had an apricot cinnamon sauce drizzled across it that I could have bathed in. It went perfectly with the pork rendition of schnitzel. In the pork theme, we had the pork curry, which was a Thai curry served over rice with vegetables. The coconut milk based sauce was so well seasoned and authentic. The greens and grains was also a hit. While it seems simple, there was so much flavor in the dish and it was perfect for restoring a weary body. The mushroom risotto was a universal hit, as it was super creamy and well seasoned with loads of mushrooms. The fresh, seasonal veggies served with all but the schnitzel, which had a warm potato salad, were perfectly cooked. As an added bonus, they have local beers and spirits. They used a local gin to make a fantastic martini, and DH loves his local red ale. We were so pleased that the LOs ordered the housemade vanilla ice cream, which was served with an almond cookie and a raspberry and was outstanding. DH and I loved the chocolate almond torte, which was housemade, rich and wonderful. The apricot coulis was on point and the sliced almonds added a nice crunch. I feel like this is one of those places where the food looks better than it tastes. After seeing all of the raving reviews we were expecting a bit more from this restaurant. The service was great but the food was mediocre. We ordered the trout and schnitzel but were disappointed by both. The trout was dry and bland, while the vegetables on the side stole the show. The schnitzel was alright but the potatoes on the side added nothing to the dish, and maybe even took away from it.
