I joined 10 others retirees for lunch at The Brookside Market. We have been here before and they…read morehave never disappointed. The menu is simple, yet varied. The portions and quality are a great value for the money. You start by placing your order at the counter getting your beverage, and taking a seat. They bring your order to your table in a timely manner, we had 11 men, everyone was served together. The store also offers the whole menu for take out. A great selection of wine, beer, and spirits are available as well. Very clean operation with plenty of parking. Do yourself a favor and try them out. Beautiful ride through Baltimore County country side.

I usually enjoy Brookside Market, but my experience at brunch today was disappointing. One thing to…read moreknow is that during brunch there isn't table service, you have to order at the counter first, even though they offer wait service later in the day. The biggest issue was the customer service. The woman working the ordering counter, who had dark brown hair pulled back into a ponytail and a small white necklace (not Izzy) was unfriendly and came across as irritated from the moment we walked in. When I placed my order, every time I asked for something she either looked at me like I had asked a ridiculous question or didn't respond at all. It made the whole interaction feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I understand everyone has off days, but if you're working in customer service, it's important not to take a bad mood out on customers. A simple response or friendly attitude goes a long way and would have made for a much better experience.

Locales and visitors enjoying a Monday dinner - crab cakes or pasta seemed to be popular. The latter may be attributed to the $2 pasta discount on Mondays. The quintessential basket on the table of stale cracker packets and tiny plastic containers of butter probably sitting out 24/7. Meh- why "Oprah" would order her crab cakes from here when the crab is not from Maryland, right? Once I heard that news from the waiter ( I asked, it was not volunteered) I opted for the local soft shell crab special. ( despite it not being season, I should have known better. It was a puny crab with hardly any meat and it was not properly cleaned either. Sides of overcooked brocolli and asparagus. Baked potatoes looked liked yesterday's overcooked option. My colleagues enjoyed the crab cakes which were large portions- should be for $40+ each. Service was friendly, food took too long- it was a long wait for mediocre overpriced food.

We have NEVER had a bad meal. The pizza is wonderful. They have a gluten free option. The portions are generous. I particularly like their apple and fig salad. They have great wings with a generous portion. My friend likes their fresh tuna salad and bowl. Again generous serving size. Very diverse menu options to satisfy everyone. This is a local gem It should be supported by the community. The owner is very philanthropic. He supports local charities churches NCR etc by donating 20 percent of collections for that day for people who come in and mention the name of the charity. Who does that every week on Tuesday and Wednesday throughout the year? Please support this restaurant!

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Needed some guidance on what to order and my server suggested the grilled chicken Caesar wrap. It was delicious and fresh! My child ordered the pizza. It was so cool watching them put it in their brick oven! I had to sneak a bite of his pizza since they are known for pizza. Did not disappoint! The crust and sauce were extremely fresh and light! Had more cheese than I like. But my child was loving it!!! When we come back, I'll probably order the margarita pizza since that is more my speed of cheese, sauce and crust ratio! If you want to sit indoors there are plenty of table and if you'd like to sit outdoors there is an adorable patio with umbrellas! You can tell this is a beautiful family owned restaurant with plenty of stories and character. The interior looks like a barn which my server later told me it was and got renovated to the restaurant we see today. They've been open for about nine years. The best word to describe this restaurant is charming. I loved it. It is located off a main road so I would advise being careful with parking. I was unaware that there is a parking lot in the back of the house next to the restaurant! Google maps didn't show me that so I was slightly concerned when I pulled up but found the big lot quickly.

So many places in this area that are open for lunch are really crappy chains so Barrett's stood out to me. I was able to grab a table outside under the shade. I chose to order the kale cauliflower salad which came with a beautiful filet of salmon, feta, walnuts, dried cranberries, and a yummy vinaigrette. I was curious to see how all these flavors would work together but it was all delicious. I loved the crunch from the walnuts, the sweetness from the cranberries, and the creaminess of the feta. I can't say I've ever had a salad with cauliflower in it either but it was actually really good. For $19, I was really impressed with the quality and serving size especially of the salmon. Service was excellent, super friendly and attentive. She dropped the check but didn't make me feel rushed and even refilled my iced tea. I would highly recommend Barrett's!
