I literally never write reviews and I had to create an account to post this review but I am happy to do it. The service at Hunter Family Vision is something I do not see in the marketplace today. I work and am very familiar with group insurance. I work for a consulting house that is HQ in KC and while my practice is focused on absence, I know a fair amount about other group offered products. I received a text today from Brandi at Hunter Family Vision notifying me that my company's eye insurance provider, VSP, was changing their policy provisions and I may not be eligible after 6/1 for "medically necessary" contacts. In the early 90s, I grew up as a kid who had to patch their right eye to make the left eye stronger and for a long time, glasses were my only option. I eventually moved to contacts and saw a competitor. No one ever told me that insurance may cover the cost of my contacts because of the difference in the prescription between my right and left eye. At my first visit, Dr. Swan told me they should be covered 100%. The thousands of dollars she has saved me over the last 5 years goes above and beyond what I would anticipate from any other healthcare provider. This is true patient advocacy. I was overwhelmingly impressed with Brandi and the entire office staff at Hunter Family Vision. I received a proactive text today about the policy changes and recommended that I come in and see Dr. Swan for my annual exam before my policy changed. That text alone also saved me hundreds of dollars. Otherwise, I would have waited until the end of the year to only find out that VSP may not cover my contacts. I live in Lawrence, KS now. But I will happily make the trip to continue to be a patient of Dr. Swan and Hunter Family Vision. Thank you so much for being an advocate for patient healthcare. read more

I went straight through the process with no waiting at all. All the employees had their masks on and did lots of cleaning before and after each step. The technician and the doctor were very nice. After the exam, I had lots of nice frames and lenses to choose from. The whole place is modern and clean. Hey guys, third year patient here. Hunter Family Vision is a great practice. The staff is skilled, thorough, and attentive and they use the latest (and often non-invasive*) technologies during exams. I guess that's why I keep going back (even though I've lived in Georgia for the past two years). *No puff tests - not sure if the puff test is considered invasive, but the dread associated w/that stupid puff of air is 100% invasive! Plus, none of the other stuff I've encountered during exams has ever sketched me out, so that's a non-invasive win too. read more

We found Hunter Family Vision through a search of our insurance provider. After switching instances, we needed a practice who was knowledgable and thorough, and Hunter is exactly what we needed! This first visit was for my daughter to be fitted for her first pair of contacts, and I could not be more pleased. From the booking process to the intake and evaluations, and especially to Dr. Swan and the amazing young woman who helped my kiddo learn how to use her contacts, we are nothing short of pleased! I initially started going here because they were chamber members; but I repeatedly have a bad experience and will be finding somewhere else to go. My most recent visit, the receptionist didn't greet me and I had to wait to even check in. I then was taken back by a very unfriendly and unenthusiastic girl. I waited way beyond my appointment time to be seen by the doctor. They didn't have my contacts in stock to try out the new prescription, so they said they were going to order it and it would be in within 2-3 days...I'm going on 3 weeks and haven't heard anything. Their sales process for glasses and using insurance benefits is so convoluted that I feel like I'm being taken advantage of - which I probably am, so I have never purchased new glasses through them. I always feel like I'm trying to be sold to - yes, for the 5th time I'm happy with my current contacts brand. I almost didn't go back this year, but thought I'd give them a try in the new office...by far my most frustrating visit here over the last 4 years. Update: HFV responded quickly to my issues and took measures via phone, email and written note to apologize for my experience; assuring me they are going to talk to the staff members involved. They actually dropped off my contacts sample to my house with a handwritten note from dr. Tomasu. read more

Every time I walk in, I am greeted with the kindest of smiles, followed up by the quickest pre-tests, leading into the most straight forward and easiest exams with the nicest docs, and finishing with the most wonderful eye techs Kansas has ever seen. It would have been helpful if someone could have taken time to explain the way they charge and what the charges were for. They did offer a mail in rebate coupon on the contacts so that helped. The best Optometrist! I always contemplate whether I should do a quick exam at Target or a cheap one at America's Best, but I am always so grateful that I went to see Dr. Hunter.
