I've been going to Mission EyeCare since they opened back in 2013. I've always gotten great service and they've kept me seeing. Appointments are always pretty much on time and I'm usually in and out at a pretty decent rate. I've not gotten glasses from them but I do get my contacts through them. I believe they have a home delivery option but I've also picked them up there. I've never had any insurance issues and the clinic is always clean. I like how the staff treats me like a person. Yes, they try to sell things, but that's okay because that's what businesses do. They also take time to talk to me and explain why they recommend certain tests and how it reflects on my eyes.. Mission EyeCare took 2 weeks to get my new progressive lens glasses ($520). When they arrived they just handed them to me without checking to see how they fit or if they were okay. When I returned them a week later to report that the intermediate correction of my right lens was poor, they suggested there may be something about my eye history responsible for the poor correction! I told them my previous progressive lens corrected fine but was merely scratched. Then they offered to recheck my right eye prescription for a fee. I asked Eyecare to return my old lenses and left. I would have been better off ordering my new glasses from Walmart. At least Walmart guarantees their products. read more

Not at all happy with my service. I went and got a pair of glasses last March or April. ​ I got my first pair of progressive lenses. I was not happy with and called and was told to wait a couple weeks as progressive were new to me. I waited got busy, got covid by then it was too late to return. I again went back in December to see what could done and was told again to wear them and they would be fine that they are correct per prescription and since it had been so long insurance would not cover another pair. So today I went to get more glasses. I can't wait another month or two. I took them in and found out the glasses I had were borderline for being the right size for progressive lens and then my reading area was too far down. So 600.00 bucks later and a new company I hope I can finally see!! read more

I visit every year. The service is excellent. There was no pressure to purchase glasses when I didn't see frames covered by my insurance that I liked. Prescriptions from previous businesses were great for reading but the slight adjustment for longer distances was always off enough that I had to remove the glasses to drive. When I got this doctor's Rx filled I can see all the time! Now I just have to break the habit of wearing my glasses in top of my head. read more

I went into this location today to have my eyeglass frames fitted. Before I left my house, I showered, brushed my teeth and combed my hair. The woman who "helped" me could not be bothered-like maybe she didn't want to get too close to me? I left in tears feeling like I was a nuisance whom they couldn't get out of the store fast enough. I believe the woman's name is Bethany. The whole experience was honestly a little baffling considering this is a small business whose business model would seem to need to be based on besting the big box stores with superior customer service. read more

I ended up at Mission EyeCare after getting a list from my insurance of places I could go to utilize a sunglass benefit. I had already been to several places with no luck and was getting frustrated. Mission EyeCare had lots of sunglasses to choose from, I worked with Kaitlyn who was super helpful! She was really fantastic, helpful but not pushy at all and on top of that, she was a delight to speak with. She knew her stuff and offered to call my insurance when she realized another store had put a hold of sorts on my benefit, this was after she called that store and they said they couldn't correct their mistake for another 2 days (which was holding up my ability to get the glasses). The office is beautiful and has all of the latest technology. He definitely knows what he's talking about and gave me a thorough plan to improve my eye health, which has had a rocky go of it after PRK surgery. So I used to come here and then I left. I didn't have any real complaints but I found an eye doctor closer to my job so I left. I ended up back here because my doctor didn't have any availability and I just wanted to be seen. My best friend tried to warn me because she had bad experiences here but I'm hard headed. So I went and let me say that the doctor and the student doctor was amazing. Sigh, dassit. I have two insurances. The staff pulled the VSP and proceeded to tell me that VSP would cover a 2nd pair of glasses but not the 1st. Like seriously? I ended up calling VSP to have them call the office and give them the correct info. Then the staff said that there was no copay for my exam (I knew) but that there would be a $10 copay for the material. I knew that too. We went over the benefits so I knew that they would cover only one add on (progressive, transition lens, etc) so I knew what I was looking for. After the AMAZING eye exam with the student doctor, I came out and found the frames that were within my allowance. Well the staff came over and somehow my total went from $10 to $191. What the heck?!?!?! When I questioned her, she said well that's what it'll be to get everything that I had on my previous glasses. I responded that I didn't ask for all of that to which she coldly replied "would you like me to put these frames back up?" Okay girl, put them up then. So ask I check out, the staff says I have a $10 copay. I said no, you said it was only for the material. The lady responded I never said that! Girlll, yes YOU did!!! She looked over the print out and said oh, yeah the exam was free. Whew chile...neva again! read more

I try to make a point to patronize local businesses whenever possible, and, in the years I've lived in Mission, I walked or biked or drove by Mission Eyecare for a couple of years, and thought, "When I next need an exam, I'll check these guys out!" That day was today. Pretty impressed, from when I called for an appointment on. Everyone I dealt with was so pleasant and helpful! I have had the experience that certain shops *cough cough major national chain cough cough* don't accept military (Tricare) insurance, even though it is supposed to cover one eye exam a year. Turns out, Mission Eyecare does! I mentioned that I was mom to a new baby, and found out that it isn't recommended to get eyes dilated when breastfeeding. So, I got their alternate retinal photos, which cost extra, but didn't involve chemicals. I got to look over the images with the optometrist, which was cool. I also don't tend to purchase glasses from optometry offices, and they were cool about that and spared me the hard sell, which I truly appreciated. read more

I stopped into Mission Eye Care to check out their selection of frames. From the time I stepped into the store until I left, not one employee said, "hi", "Can we help you"? or "goodbye". There was only one person there, already being helped by one of the opticians. If you want business, you may want to start acknowledging people who come into your facility. Even if I had found frames I liked (which I didn't), I would not have purchased them at Mission EyeCare due to the extremely poor service! read more

They ordered contacTs that were $100 for 5 days. Not sure about others but I can't afford that on a continuous basis especially when dealing with cancer. read more

I'd like to do a compliment sandwich. A) because I am a businessman who works in a corporate environment, and B) because I think sandwiches are outstanding. - Everyone who works here is really, really nice. - I don't like this place at all. - It looks neat inside, like an eye doctor's office in Aspen might look. See, I had an eye doctor. He was just fine. Nothing too flashy. Just the business. Once a year we'd meet, and he'd shake my hand and have me read letters and he'd shoot shit into my eyes and then he'd make me blind and then he'd help me to the counter where someone would take money from me. It was what I expected from an eye doctor. But then I moved from one vapid wasteland in Kansas City: North to another vapid wasteland in Far East Johnson County. So I needed a new guy to shoot shit into my eyes and blind me and take my money. And because of Yelp, I settled on Mission Eye Care. And here's how it went: On the first visit, the assistant asked me if I wanted them to take pictures of my eyes for $30 or if I wanted to be dilated, thereby leaving me without the use of my up-close vision for the better part of the day. Although I am far from wealthy, I fucking hate being blinded. So I opted for the photos. Then the doctor came in. I was alarmed by the fact that he looked 19, and even MORE alarmed when he said, "well, we need to dilate your eyes to look at the backs of them and make sure they're healthy, and I also get some sort of discount from the people who make the throwaway Ray Charles shades you'll need." And I said, "but doc, I paid the money!" And he checked my chart and said, "oh! Hmm. Well. I guess you did. But, but, but--" (and I think he was saving face here) "but your vision is pretty bad, so we ALSO need to dilate you. Sorry!" So, fuck me. Cut to: two weeks later. I'm in to make sure the contacts are okay. That they fit, and I'm able to not run over nuns at crosswalks and what have you. I get there at 11:10 for my 11:20 appointment. At 11:15, one of the assistants has me read a few lines in the exam room. I astonish her with my ocular prowess. She says, "Doctor Whosit will be in shortly!" And I wait. And wait. And wait. And at 11:45, a DIFFERENT assistant comes in and apologizes-- "Dr. Busybody is caught up-- I'm SO sorry for the wait. Let me see if there's anything I can do in the meanwhile." She finds a tool and touches each eye 10 times; she claims it's something, but I think she's just biding time. Anyway, It's 11:50 now, and I silently give myself until 12:15. That's an hour. One hour of waiting in an exam room to see a doctor who will come in for three minutes and look at my eyes. At 12:13, he comes in. He apologizes, and is very sincere about it, but HOLY SHIT. I've been here for AN HOUR. Waiting. And he shines a light in my eyes and says, "welp, looks good! Want to order contacts?" And that's why Mission Eye Care will not be my new eye people. Update: It's fall of 2012, and I STILL love these optometrists :) I absolutely LOVE Mission Eye Care. I started going when it was still known as Honson & Honson, and I saw Dr. Angela Honson. The in-office staff is always so sweet and helpful. I absolutely agonize over new glasses, and one of the opticians must have spent an hour with me going through all of the frames. Since my first visit, I think I've seen every optometrist on staff. And every time, without a doubt, they've been thorough, sweet, and willing to answer questions and discuss whatever eye topics might pop up. Oh! I even made it in on a Saturday afternoon, when I woke up with one of my eyes KILLING me for no apparent reason; they were about ready to close, but they stayed open long enough for me to drive down. The customer service is impeccable!!! I can't recommend them enough, and I've seen LOTS of optometrists in the 20+ years I've been I've been in corrective lenses. read more

I went in to see this group with an injury on my eye. I was in tremendous pain but as soon as I got there the nurse put me at ease. The doctor was very thorough in describing the cause, and treatment. The doctor and staff were all so sweet and helped me immeasurably with my pain. I will never go here again. The bottom line is if you don't order your glasses through them, they will not stand behind their RX. Was given eye exam and had to ask for my Rx but did not purchase glasses at this location. Ordered my glasses online using the RX given to me by this location. Regardless of what optometrist I go to I have never had a problem ordering online. I've always got the correct prescription and fit. Received my glasses; could not see enough to drive safely. Went back to ask to have my eyes re- examine 3 weeks after the first exam and claimed my eyes just changed that much in just 3 weeks. Massive change! Huge difference in the RX. They would not admit to giving me the wrong prescription. The first excuse was that I wasn't pushing my glasses all the way up on my nose. The second excuse was that my eyes changed that much due to medical reasons. The third excuse is that during my eye exam I said yes that looks good and so that was the prescription they gave me. Therefore it was my fault. After second exam I was able to order lenses and they were good. I'm giving two stars because they did not charge me for my re-exam. I didn't like hearing so many excuses as to why they were not at fault. I feel like I was being punished for not ordering my glasses through them. read more

The customer service here is fantastic! My eye Dr, (Dr. Pingel) recently started his own practice here so this was my first time at this facility. The staff at the front desk is excellent. They are very knowledgeable, caring, and personable. Since he recently moved they didn't have everything set up yet to accept my insurance so instead of paying full price out of pocket, they discounted my services so that I wouldn't have to reschedule. I also love the text message appointment confirmations. I have not been to a more friendly eye Dr. He really tries to get to know his patients and build a connection with them. Pointless hidden charges, sales pressure, and incompetence dealing with our insurance coverage. They insist on us paying out-of-pocket costs even though our medical coverage has an allowance for vision care. Even though we told them this, they refused to try to charge our insurance provider. I had a hidden charge when I went in this week with a "contact lens fitting." My lenses have fit perfectly for years! There was no need to check to see if the size needed to be changed. They wanted me to buy lenses from them, they said they would give me free samples of some contacts to try out, and they didn't tell me there would be any charge for checking them out. I don't even know if I had an option in the first place; they didn't tell me what to expect, just overcharged me for something I did not ask for. My wife's "hidden charge" was when she went to have them replace the lenses in the frames she had purchased from them. They originally cost over $300. When she had them replace the lenses for her new vision prescription, they charged her the full cost of the lenses and frames again! No reason for that whatsoever, and they would not back down. read more

My appointment was with Dr. Fisher. I thought she was great! She took her time and went into great detail explaining answers to my questions. I had a bit of a complex vision situation, and she really took the time to figure out what was best for me. She also suggested some vitamins and at home ideas to help with my dry eyes. It was a well rounded resolution. I will definitely go back! I had a new person from the front desk. I could tell they were still learning, so I wouldn't really integrate that into my review since they were new. read more

I moved to the Kansas City area earlier this year and decided to give Mission Eyecare a try as I was due for my yearly eye exam. I'm so glad I did. The office was clean and comfortable. After I filled out my paperwork, they got me in right away. I saw Dr Pingel, and he was very helpful and conversational. Instead of dilating my eye, they gave me the option of having a machine take a picture of it (at a small, extra cost). I took that option and am glad I did, because they actually found something they never would have if they had only been able to dilate it. I was told that I should get an eye exam and that most of the cost would be covered by my health insurance. When the bill came due very, very little was covered by insurance and their reply to my complaint was quite unsuitable.
