Many of the frames are hip and trendy, but you can also find a more conservative look there if you want. The young man at the Prairie Village location was knowledgeable and very nice, and I had a generally good experience there. My big beef about these shops is their design. The closest you can get to a big mirror is about six to eight feet because they are all behind the counters. I want to see myself in a big, well-lit mirror from a variety of distances and angles. They also have small mirrors on the counter tops, but that is really not that helpful because we don't view the world through a 9 x 12 inch oval. I am both near and far sighted, so I had a hard time getting a good view of myself in the big mirrors that were so far away. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks about eyeglass shopping this way, but it's something I've noticed recently. I've been obsessively shopping for new frames because I really want to change my look. I've been to dozens of shops in the KC metro and even Lawrence. I'm amazed at how many shops have small, poorly lit and/or inaccessible mirrors. If I'm going to spend $500 to $1200 on new lenses and frames that I will wear on my face every day, I sure as heck want to be able to see myself clearly before making a decision.

From check in to eye exam to check out, it took 30 minutes. They have a machine they can use in lieu of dilating your eyes. It cost $35 and is definitely worth it. They also have an optical shop with a wide, variety selection of glasses for men, women & kids. On a personal note, Dr. Stacy Phillips was able to help me solve an on going issue with my left cornea by referring to another specialist doctor. I'm truly grateful for her for helping me resolve with what I thought was an "issue I just had to deal with" for the rest of my life.

When I walk in the door I am greeted and checked I right away. There is little waiting for my scheduled appointment time. There are cool frames to look at if in need of a new or updated pair of glasses. The complete exam takes only about 30 minutes from start to finish and I choose to pay extra for the ocular machine versus drops. Once finished I can order my contacts or glasses right then. This practice operates like a well-oiled machine.

After doing some comparison shopping, I find their prices are quite reasonable and competitive, and they stand behind their work. One time I went in with a new prescription and wanted new lenses in my old frames as well as a whole new frame/lens combination. I asked to have transition lenses in both frames. I guess I didn't know enough about transition lenses to realize that they darken on cloudy days as well as sunny days. After having them for a couple weeks, I was very frustrated and decided I wanted regular lenses in one pair, so I went back to Gerry and they changed exchanged the lenses at no extra cost to me. Another thing...I've recently been obsessively shopping for new frames, really wanting to change my look. I have been to dozens of optical shops around the KC metro and even Lawrence, Kan. I'm amazed that some shops have hardly any mirrors and terrible lighting. Are you kidding me? I would think that big, well lit, accessible mirrors would be standard at optical shops, but apparently not. I originally had gone to my previous optometrists office however based on the price they quoted per pair $600 for lenses only it was clear based on the sales associates indifference they weren't really interested in my business. I removed their Yelp review because I could no longer stand behind the level of customer service. Enter Fairway Eye center. Some years ago I had done business with Fairway and remembered the excellent customer service. In fact the only reason I really switched was they didn't have the frames I wanted. I digress. So after getting a completely outrageous quote I called Fairway and asked for Tina. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out she was still there. I explained my dilemma and all I can say is that Fairway came to the rescue once again. The prices were completely reasonable and Fairway stands 100% behind their product and customer service. I won't be going to anyplace else again. The customer service can't be beat!
