We were looking for lunch after coming from the national park. In the winter, all of the closer food in Baker is closed, understandably. So we decided to check out what we could in Ely and we are so happy we did! This warm and inviting little drive thru was just what the doctor ordered. We were quickly welcomed in by the nice lady at the counter. The service was truly top notch! I had a Gyro that was everything I was looking for, hot and juicy with crunchy onions and a great sauce. My husband had their double cheese burger with avocado and pepper jack. We split a basket of picadillies with cheese which were the fluffiest steak fries turned bite size and they were perfect! We also shared a cup of their chocolate soft serve which took us back to childhood. Pro Tip: The chocolate soft serve pairs perfectly with the picadillies! Stopped here for lunch on road trip with dogs after searching "dog friendly restaurants" and reading a few reviews. Ordered the cheeseburger with fries combo. The burger was very delicious with fresh ingredients. I liked the toasted bun and the fry sauce. The French fries were over cooked and they need seasoning. Service was excellent and friendly. The restaurant and bathrooms were nicely clean. Ladies room had room freshener too. Dogs were able to take a stroll on the grounds and nice with large trash bin outside. Patio seating was great in the shade. We enjoyed our meal here. And the steam locomotive went by. Cute town! read more

If you have read any of my other reviews, we really try to support small and local businesses wherever we go. This trip to Ely, we decided to stop for dinner at this place. It is located right on Aultman, one of two main streets through Ely, Nevada. There is outdoor seating and we definitely would have loved to sit there if the winds were not blowing as strong as they were. When we entered, we were immediately greeted by the cashier and cook. The dining room was clean and orderly, as if someone had just come through and straightened it before we got there. We chose the 12" Philly Cheesesteak as it looked to be a good deal to share between us. We also chose the fries and a drink to go along with it. Our order came out in good time and the staff there even took the time to put half the sandwich on one plate and the other half on another plate. One plate was also piled high with french fries and we got a couple of cups of sauce on the side. The cheesesteak was very flavorful and tender with lots of onions and bell peppers. Was filling too. The town of Ely only has 2 chain restaurants and the rest are small local businesses so supporting small local is pretty easy here. read more

What is it about small towns that makes them so good at making burgers?! We stopped in at Hunter's while on a road trip and we were not disappointed by the food or the service! Theresa and Amy were working when my husband and I were the only patrons there. They were so nice and made our burgers quickly. The burgers themselves were delicious! They were fresh and made there in the restaurant. They also used real cheddar cheese. And the quality of the fries was top notch! The restaurant itself was also very clean. First things first: the "drive-thru" part of this is a little misleading. Yes, there looks to have been a drive thru at some point, but when we went, we followed the signs around the building, drove up and around to the menu board and speaker, and realized that it was not functional. So we drove to the actual pickup window and made our order there. We're in difficult times, and I can only imagine how hard it must be to staff a place like this in a pandemic, so I'm giving them a lot of leeway. But it was a long wait. All told, it took us nearly 25 minutes to get to the window, order, and wait to get our food. They were apologetic, and had a rush just as we arrived, but you may get faster service by going in, or just need to budget more time. They were out of corn dogs, which--for reasons unexplainable to me was what I wanted--so I went with the philly cheesesteak. Not exactly the most natural order from an establishment in Ely, but then again neither was the fish sandwich we ordered so sometimes you just go with your gut. Everything was fine. The fries came with fry sauce (this is, of course, a byproduct of being located somewhat near the Utah border. I wish I had wanted a burger because that's the best thing to order from a small town burger joint, and I'd go with that next time. All in all, we felt good about trying a local spot on our way out of town, and though it was not totally smooth, I can see the potential in normal times to have a great experience. read more

We stopped here twice on our way to Elko and our way back to Vegas. We needed a spot with outside seating since we had our dog with us and I prefer not to eat fast food if I can help it. We gave it a shot, we tried the burger, soda, and fries special and it was really good. The waitress even gave our pup a dog treat. On our second stop I decided to try something else, my husband stuck with the burger. I got the 1/2 cheesesteak, it was huge and no french fries or soda came with this. It was ok, it's the type of cheesesteak your mom or grandma would throw together with what was on hand. It wasn't chipped steak, there were nice steak pieces in this but it wasn't what I expected or wanted. I would certainly stop here again if in the area and needed something to eat. read more

I'm basing my review on what it could be instead of what I got. First off, the service is exceptional and friendly. We had burgers and fries for lunch while passing through town. The fries were fresh cut, with flaky salt. So good. The burgers looked like they were going to be awesome. The cook put what looked like fresh patties on the grill. Always a good sign when they're fresh cooked to order. They were 1/4 lb according to the menu but looked even bigger. Buns are put in a toaster so both sides of each half of the bun gets toasted. Kinda weird, but ok. We sat down at a table and waited for our food to be delivered. The burgers looked fantastic. Piled high with fresh lettuce, onions, tomatoes and pickles. With a good size pile of those fresh cut fries perfectly cooked on the side. (Even my wife got fries even though she didn't order them.). So anyway, about the burger. What the cook did to that meat should be illegal. It looked nothing like what a good burger should. It shrank up to something much smaller than a regular McDonald's hamburger. It was so dry and lifeless. Every last ounce of juice, fat, and flavor was cooked out of the burger. Now perhaps people like their burgers that way and never experienced it any other way so don't know any better. You can cook a burger without any red in the center and still have it come out juicy and flavorful though I prefer a little pink in mine. As far as I'm concerned, if it's not dripping with melted fat and juices, it's not worth eating. If this is you, maybe try ordering it medium rare or rare and hope for the best. Many places won't "undercook" ground beef, but there is a big difference between "undercooked" and the hockey pucks we got. Why the four stars? Because despite the overcooked (understatement) burgers, overall the experience was awesome and I believe their self-inflicted wound of brutalizing hamburger patties can be easily corrected and be worthy of 4 stars. read more

A friend from Las Vegas recommended hunters to us. If we weren't told about hunters we probably wouldn't have stopped to grab lunch. However, the parking lot was full. Hunters is definitely a hidden gem located in downtown Ely. Upon entering the drive-through, you have to go around the building and the menu was broken which almost detoured us from ordering. Once we got up to the window we were greated by a bubbly woman who gave us paper menus. The menu was pretty simple which made it easy to order. We noticed they were very busy inside of the restaurant so we had a chance to look over the menu before making a final decision. After we place our order we were asked to pull up and park and they would bring our order out to us. This place is so popular we had to wait 30 minutes in the car before we even got our food!!! Let me tell you, it was TOTALLY worth the wait!!! The hamburgers were delicious and juicy, the fries were salty and amazing. I love how the skin was still left on and since we're talking about the fries do not skip the fries sauce. Apparently this place is also known for breakfast so make sure to get there early because when we tried to order Bacon for our burgers they were out. A total must try if you're ever in the city of Ely! You will not be disappointed. read more

This place has the foundation right for a great meal, but need to go that last little bit to get there. We all ordered the roast beef sandwich for dinner as it seemed like their signature item. We were touted the freshness and high quality of the ingredients. Yes, everything did taste fresh and of high quality, but what was lacking was the flavor. This sandy needed some sauce! A nice horseradish sauce, jalapeno jelly, or heck...give me an Arby's sauce packet and this would have been a solid meal. One in our party ordered a burger, which strangely enough seemed new to the menu. After taking a bit, I had the same criticism. Good quality ingredients and a nice 1/2 lb patty, but lacking flavor. On the other hand, the fries and fry sauce had a little kick to them. Some of my kids thought too much. We sat outside to eat. Being not local, we weren't used to the quietness of the Main St. on a Saturday night. It was as quiet as church on Sunday and had a ghost town feel. Wow! My husband and I just had one of the best on-the-road meals ever here. We got the cheeseburger and french dip with cheese (add jalapenos!), and wished we had ordered more. It may have been the best french dip I've ever eaten. Their food is all fresh and prepared in-house, including the roast beef and the hamburger patties. The people working there were so friendly, and the food was hot and quick and delicious. They even gave us a sundae on the house to go. Here's an unsolicited recommendation: Do the Bristlecone Pine loop at Great Basin National Park and then drive to Ely for one of the most satisfying meals you can imagine! read more

The gal cooking was friendly "HOWEVER" she never washed her hands, she had one blue glove on and once bare hand and she was cooking meat and handeling everything. We went here when we were traveling through. People seemed nice- food was bad. We ordered two chicken baskets and they had different styles of strips. One of daughter's chicken strips had mold on it. The fries had way too much salt on them. Like you could literally see the salt. My husband had a burger that was not good and my fish sandwich was mediocre. Ok their ham and eggs cheese beagle was amazing! The ham itself was very juicy and flavorful. It did not taste like store bought ham. It really tasted like if it was the day after thanksgiving and the beagle sandwich was made with the left over ham. It was super delicious and I enjoyed every bite of it. I only wish they would have added a little more cheese but I'll make sure to ask for extra cheese next time I stop by.
