I have ridden at his barn since November of 2002, and I am fond of telling people you couldn't blast me out! Hunter's Haven Farm is located in Northern Essex County, in Groveland MA. That may sound like a hike to some, but it's a straight shot up I-95, away from the clutter of the suberbs but close enough and easy enough to get to to be convenient. The property sits on 15 acres of strudy, well looked after grounds. There are three two acre grass paddocks seeded with Kentucky bluegrass, one 2 acre and once 1.5--2 acre dirt paddock, and several single turnouts that we customers refer to as "corner pockets", for the horse that prefers their own private space. The riding facilities consist of competition specification indoor arena and outdoor ring, a dressage ring, a full cross country course with a variety of challenging jumps, and an eighth of a mile race track. There is no trail system, but the owners and management more than make up for this with frequent field trips to a variety of locations, including Pipestave Hill, Bradely Palmer State Park, Maudslay, and Crane's Beach in Ipswich! The quality of school horses at HHF is amazing. Each animal is treated like a beloved pet. All are groomed and cuddled daily. They are seen on a regular basis by the vet, dentist, and farrier. I have been riding since I was two years old and taking lessons since I was six. This is the friendliest, lowest pressure barn I have ever been to. And yet they are very successful; the barn's show team always returns home with buckets full of ribbons, and several riders have been accepted to elite college equestrian programs! My family has been at Hunters Haven Farm in Groveland for six years and gone from having my two daughters ride once a week for a few months out of the year to having the whole family take lessons and boarding our own horse there. HHF has been wonderful throughut every phase. We felt as welcome being "occasional" riders as we are now when we never leave the property...:-) HHF is a wonderful place whether you are a complete beginner wanting to learn how to ride and interact with horses or an experienced rider wanting to compete on their Show team. My husband (who thought he was afraid of horses) has a great time in Jimmy's late evening "mens only" class, My daughters and I love our classes with Tricia and the privates we all take take with Devon, Lexcey or Leandra. The staff at the barn are wonderful and very knowledgeable. The horses receive excellent care. The property is absolutely gorgeous with with big grass turn out paddocks, a huge lit outdoor ring, dressage ring, galopping track and a big cross country course. There's also a large indoor arena with heated viewing rooms. They run great camp programs and arrange several horse shows and fun social events for their riders and families throughout the year. Lesson prices are very resonable and during the summer months my daughters have fun working with the barns pony rental business in exchange for more riding time. We live almost 45 minutes away from the barn but getting there is worth every minute of the trip! We are so lucky to have found an extra home and family at Hunters Haven Farm! read more

My 13 year old daughter has been happily skipping, riding, playing, sledding, jumping learning and chatting away at HHF since she was only 7 years old. Her chatty little self was so lovingly welcomed that she wanted to spend all of her time there, and doing so was NEVER frowned upon! It was very clear that this is where she belonged, and the positive values taught there would stay with her for life..so we bought a wonderful horse when she was 9.. : ) I am not a horse person, I knew very little about caring for a horse, VERY little! I have never had to worry about his care MUCH LESS my daughter's safety at HHF. I have incredible, patient support every step of the way. The owner (Trish) is extremely knowledgeable, fair and generous to both her lesson students as well as her boarders. My daughter's trainer (Kerri), well, let's just say I worship the ground she walks on! She has kept my little girl and her pony safe for years! I can leave my little girl in Trish and Kerri's care for anything without concern. Everything from lessons to a big barn Halloween sleepover bash! For my family...this is a "Children's Haven Farm"! For "grown up" horse people..it is a wonderful barn family.. with a big indoor ring set on a meticulously maintained farm loaded with outside rings and cross country riding areas for their enjoyment. It is truly my pleasure to share my 14 year relationship with Hunters Haven Farm with others. I went back to horseback riding at age 40 at another barn, when they closed I was very fortunate to find HHF and Tricia and Kerrie. As an older rider confidence and wonderful teaching was key to my continuing. Tricia, Kerrie and all the teachers know the exact amount of when to push a student and when to be supportive, coupled with matching the rider with the correct level/temperment horse. Fast forward to now 7 or so years ago, I purchased my first horse Rory, from Tricia and could not be happier. All the boarders, students and teachers are like wonderful extended family. The very caring, and knowledgeable instructors are so focused on everything she is doing while riding. She has learned so much from them. I, as well as my daughter, have complete confidence in the instructors. They truly love teaching people to ride, and sharing their passion for horses. The property is beautiful and well kept up. Hunters Haven Farm is a wonderful barn! I have 2 teenage daughters who are learning to ride there. The barn and the animals are clean and very well cared for.The instructors pay close attention to each rider and make sure they have mastered each step before progressing to anything more difficult. There are lessons for riders of many different levels. the instructors are caring and keep the lessons both fun and challenging for the riders. Hunter Haven Farm also has horse shows, camps and activities for the riders to participate in if they choose to. It`s a very friendly, kind, knowlegable and understanding group of people who collectively make Hunters Haven more than just a barn, it`s a place to ride, learn, socialize and feel like a part of their family :-) read more

I started riding again after a 30 year hiatus. I tried another barn but it just wasn't a good fit. I bought a horse and brought it to Hunters Haven - and this was definitely the right choice for me. The instructors build your confidence, push you just hard enough so you see improvement, and make lessons fun. The barn "family" is made up of wonderful kids and adults ranging in age from grade school through retirement - and is truly a family that I'm so happy to be part of. The facility is clean and professional and offers a variety of riding options (indoor arena, outdoor dressage ring, a large galloping track, open space, and a general purpose outdoor ring). This a great barn for children,teens, and adults as well. I am an adult 50yrs plus. The individual attention you receive even while your in a group lesson is remarkable. This barn is very relaxed while still being professional and is most enjoyable. The instructors make it as fun as well as teaching you how to ride correctly. The staff is very friendly and kind hearted. Everyone enjoys the antics that the horses are always providing. I have had only positive experiences riding at Hunters Haven Farm. I was a little nervous at first,being a first time rider. But as the time went by I began to trust the instructors and the horses. Their horses are taken care of extremely well. Before I knew it I was trotting and cantering.I have been taking lessons there for over two years and am very happy with the results! They are incredibly friendly and welcoming to students of all levels, and respect your particular interests as a rider. The riders and staff here are bullies and management does absolutely nothing about it. It's all about the money for them they don't care about the well fare of the horses OR the kids. Everyone just gossips and spreads rumors. They carry the philosophy of "beating your horse into submission" and treat the horses like objects rather than living creatures. read more

My daughter's have been riding since August 2012. They love this horse farm. The staff is knowledgeable and my girls look forward to every class. They enjoy helping out and learning more.
