I cannot say enough good things about Hurdle's! I have been there twice, once while shopping with my friend who was looking for an engagement ring, and recently to get my wedding band and engagement ring cleaned. While shopping with my friend the owner's daughter helped us and was incredible. My friend was very indecisive and tried on almost every ring in the store. Even though it was obvious we wouldn't be buying anything that day, she was in no rush and gave us her undivided attention. She really read my friend's taste well and not only made excellent recommendations but also made the experience a lot of fun. There was a nice selection including a small booth of nicely curated vintage pieces. When I went to get my rings cleaned I left the store feeling so happy! Who knew such a simply errand could be so enjoyable. The woman who met with me was so unbelievably sweet and helpful. After taking my rings to the back she assessed them and ended up recommending that they give them an even deeper clean because "of the way the diamonds were set" (they were actually just a filthy mess, but she even found a way to be sweet about telling me that). I left them there for an hour and when I came back they were sparkling as if they were brand new. They went above and beyond in performing this complementary service. I have been an insurance agent for over 40 years. Had them update an appraisal on a diamond watch. Their appraisal was 25% less than the older appraisal which was done by a reputable jewelry dealer in Boulder 10 years earlier. When I ask why such a difference, it was not a clear answer other than prices change. It was then it seemed to be an attitude of we are superior to any other appraisal, don't question us. The watch has over 80 diamonds and I know that diamonds have not decreased in value by 25% over the last 10 years. I have NEVER had an insured come to me and ask to lower their jewelry coverage because their appraisal went down, let alone by 25%. I will not recommend my insureds to use them for an appraisal. read more

Hurdles jewelry is by far the best in Boulder! I went in after a disastrous accident involving the garbage disposal, in which both my wedding rings were damaged and looked beyond repair. I had been to a few other jewelers in town and they had all told me that I had to call it a total loss and purchase brand new rings. I had no desire to do that, as they had sentimental value and the diamonds from my rings had been passed down to me from family members. Hurdles was recommended to me, so I figured I would give it one last go and try to find a jeweler who may be able to help repair or remake my rings using the diamonds. Keith and Hurdles jewelers were the answer! Keith helped make sure we understood the entire process, kept us up to date and was able to replicate my original rings! I am beyond happy and couldn't ask for a better experience. My husband and I will be taking all our business to Hurdles from now on. There is no better jewelry store in town! read more

Hurdles is THE place to go for your custom rings! My fiancé and I had been going to jeweler after jeweler looking for a very specific style of vintage ring I found online a few years ago. After going to Shane Company to learn about diamonds (what's considered "good" and what's "bad," which is totally subjective) and other large commercial places, I started to feel like I needed to settle for a ring that was less than my dream ring. We took a couple of months off from ring shopping, but one day I walked into Hurdles on my lunch break. As I began looking, I was greeted by Jessica and I started talking about a specific ring I was looking for. I showed her the picture, she said they could make it, and then told me that the diamond in the image was an antique mine cut diamond. I was so excited to learn that the diamond cut wasn't a modern cushion, but a piece of history. Then she showed me a ring at their store with an antique cut, and began giving me some insight into something that I barely knew existed. I became enamored with the thought of owning a little piece of history, although that isn't for everyone. She helped me find what I was interested in and was never pushy. You can truly see the passion she has for her craft, and that carries on through the custom design process. After coming in to talk to Jessica a couple of times on my lunch break, she was able to find me a beautiful mine cut diamond for my custom ring (cut sometime between 1830-1850!). It was perfect, so we talked to Keith and he sketched out the ring. My fiancé and I put a deposit down on the diamond and started the custom process that week. When I received the CAD (computer aided design) images the following week, I literally had NO changes which is crazy because I'm so picky. Keith and Jessica had interpreted my vision perfectly, so I tried on the wax and then we gave them the go ahead to create my ring. When my fiance proposed about 1-2 months later, the ring turned out better than I imagined and was engraved with the latitude and longitude coordinates of where we had our first date. I highly recommend Hurdles for custom jewelry or any jewelry for that matter. The care and love they put into their customers and jewelry is exceptional. Highly recommended! read more

I bought my husband a TAG Heuer watch and leather band here approximately 2 years ago. I spent in excess of $6,000--an amount that easily could have been 15-20% less if I had bought the watch online. However, I wanted to keep the dollars in my hometown of Boulder. Unfortunately, we had to have the watch serviced a couple of times the first year--the TAG just stopped working. Each time, Hurdle's would need to send it in for weeks at a time. After the third time the watch stopped operating, I asked what they could do for us in terms of getting a new timepiece from TAG. The salesgirl was very understanding and kind to me each time we came in (though it was annoying that the owner didn't give me/us the time of day at any point during our dealings with Hurdle's--though he was always in the shop). They told us the watch would likely be out for another 6-8 weeks but shortly afterwards, called us at home to tell us that TAG would replace the watch and we should get the replacement within a week. This was great news and when we brought the watch in to switch them out, they asked us to bring the original box in and switched out the band on the old watch and put in on the new and gave us our old box back. I really think that they put the new band on the malfunctioning watch in the new box and tried to resell--and suspect this is how we ended up with the faulty TAG in the first place. I found it odd that the owner never talked to us or apologized for any inconvenience with this matter. Additionally, I went in recently to have the leather band switched out for the metal and discovered that the metal parts that attach the band to the timepiece must have been switched out when they replaced the watch. The owner happened to be the only person in the store during this visit so had to switch out the bands and actually charged me $4 to replace these ($2/part)!!! What a horrible operation! I would never buy another thing from Hurdle's and tell my friends to avoid the store and go elsewhere! read more

I can't say enough wonderful things from the heart about this family owned and operated jeweler. Not only am I on my way to pick up my beautiful 30th anniversary diamond earrings my husband bought me and am so excited but wanted to remark that Keith has gone above and beyond to help me keep my Grandmothers ring. I lost it and applied the money toward upgrading my wedding ring - which he did beautifully I might add. When I found it I just did not want to be part of the insurance fraud in America so I either had to convert my beautiful new wedding ring back or pay the insurance company the initial amount they gave me for my grandmothers ring. They gave me an option to turn my grandmothers ring into Hurdles in lieu of paying any money or tearing my new wedding ring apart. So in tears I did - Keith said he would keep it for me in the safe until I could afford to buy it back. Well 5 years later I called him on it and he had kept his word ! For my 50th birthday my husband and mother bought it back for me so now I have my beautiful wedding ring he created, my grandmothers ring and gorgeous new earrings to sparkle and celebrate with - all thanks to Keith's and Hurdles loyalty, integrity and just plain kindness. Ever since my last review, I've continued to come to for battery replacements and ring sizing. My latest venture brought me to Hurdle's to size a ring and for whatever reason when I picked it up, it was too tight! I ended up holding on to it for a few weeks and gave them a call. They told me to just bring it in and they'll take care of it. No charge and within a week they had my ring back to me which fits perfectly! Marisa, has been helping us from the start and she couldn't be more amazing! She went above and beyond for us, for my engagement ring, she had several pairs sent in from the designer, just for me to pick my favorite. Then for the my fiance's wedding band she did the same thing, she had several pairs of rings sent in for him so he could choose his band. She kept detailed notes on file, so once he made his final choice, all we had to was go in and pay for it! Had them do an appraisal on a diamond watch. Had an appraisal from a reputable jewelry store in Boulder from 1990. In 1992 had an addition of $600 gold jacket added to it. Hurdle's current appraisal was 25% less than the 1990 appraisal. When I took the old appraisal in and ask how that could be that great of a difference, they measured just one of the 80 diamonds of 3 different sizes and said that the older appraisal measured one set of diamonds wrong. Plus, the cost of materials was much higher back in the 90's. It felt like such a snow job trying to validate their appraisal. As an insurance agent, in the business for over forty years, I have NEVER had a client come to me and say they got a new appraisal and so reduce their jewelry coverage. Also, if a new client wants to insure a piece, we require a new appraisal if the recent one is over ten years old. Again, NEVER have I had a client bring in a new appraisal for less that the old one. After I paid the $95 for the appraisal, I was handed the receipt with, "There you go". No thank you, nothing! I cannot recommend Hurdles for doing appraisals nor was their customer service that friendly. A simple "Thank you for doing business" should be the LEAST that can be said after a customer has paid them money. read more

The woman helping us sat down with us, took her time answering our questions, pulled out everything she could think of that we might like, gave us no pressure our guilt when she showed us things I didn't like.
