I have gone to TomKat jewelers for several jewelry items with great success. I had silver rings resized, 2 links with stones removed from a tanzanite bracelet, Kat extended a beautiful Native American made silver onyx cuff bracelet (was originally made for a smaller wrist), and she fixed a previous jeweler's flawed way of attaching a large labradorite to a unique silver bracelet. The labradorite bracelet was tough because even the original jewelry designer was unable to determine a fix and so the stone and the basket would not continue to disconnect without destroying the design. Kat's prices are fair and service is usually approximately 2 weeks since she is a one-woman show. All items came out perfect, like they were designed that way. Kat takes great pride in her work. Took FOREVER to repair a ring which never really looked right again - I had to take it to another jeweler to have it repaired professionally. Will NEVER use her services again. She also was able to fix my finances damaged engagement ring in a matter of literally minutes. Recently I had occasion to leave a Native American turquoise 2-strand choker necklace with Tomkat to be restrung after breaking. I am thoroughly pleased with the skilled attention that was given to my order. After consulting with the jeweler, the necklace was restrung on dead soft wire to provide a stronger piece more resistant to breakage. I would not recommend this business. I was referred here by a friend and was excited to support a small local business. I was excited to have my original engagement stone put into a custom designed setting. Kat is a very nice person but does not explain the design process in any detail - does not set realistic expectations for timelines - does not reach out to update you on the process. If you call the store and her daughter answers just hang up - Courtney is RUDE to people. I had misgivings in the middle of this long process and should have just hung up - but I thought Kat would be a better artist than business person and hoped that the end result would be what I had visioned. I am not happy with the design of my ring - I also feel that the craftsmanship is sub-par and doesn't have any artisan feel. All I get from Kat is excuses. Kat - so sorry that you have had a really AWFUL year - I do have sympathy for your many losses - but I don't feel that that means that I have to walk around with a $3k mistake on my finger for what should be a persons favorite piece of jewelry. When I got engaged in 2018, my fiancé' gave me his grandmother's ring which was 75 years old. We decided that we wanted to add a diamond in the middle of it so we tried several jewelers that all told me that they couldn't add the diamond but I could buy another ring to add to it. I decided to try TomKat Jewelers and Kat looked at my ring and said "sure, no problem!" She added the diamond and it was exactly what I wanted! It is one a of a kind, 52 diamond custom design (combing the original ring and the soldered stacking bands) It was in serious need of repair and resizing. A very precious sapphire and diamond ring was also in need of resizing. I put the "project" off for over a year because I was untrusting and anxious to hand the pieces over to anyone. After interviewing oodles of jewelers from chains to malls, to sole proprietors, and Kat, I chose her. I could not be happier with what she did! My wedding ring looks better now than it ever has! I brought in a ring that I had purchased on my honeymoon. After wearing the ring only a few times. The stone fell out, which I saved and kept for years without be able to get it fixed. So I brought it to this place to get it fixed. The stone in my ring is a pear shaped stone and was set in with a v prong at the point and two other prongs at the curved part of the stone. Also, the ring has a very thin band and setting. Of course I am not a jeweler and I know nothing about jewelry nor jewelry repairs, and even though the previous review is really bad, I thought maybe it was a fluke and I would give it a shot. So I brought my ring in and she looked at it for a few minutes and said that the v Prong should be bigger the other two prongs should be longer. She said it would be a week to repair. I wasn't really concerned about a time frame but was glad that it wouldn't be too long. A week later I still hadn't heard back so I called. She said, "well I'm short staffed and having to answer the phones so I am behind. You'll get it when I can get to it." I wasn't happy that I wasn't called to be notified that it would take more time. If she was short staffed, the moment she knew she would need longer, she should have called clients waiting for their pieces and let them know! That's just responsible business. So I finally get a call after another 2 weeks saying my ring would be done on a Saturday. When I went in I she was still working on it!!!!! I waited for 30 minutes and it was finally done. It looked beautiful and I was really excited to wear it. After wearing for a DAY I could hear the stone moving in the ring. So I brought it back the next day. The whole point of getting it repaired is to NOT lose the stone!!!!! So she looked at it and said she didn't understand why it was moving because she'd tightened it really well. At this point, you'd think she would have further inspected the ring to see what else could be causing to stone to move.... But no. And again, I don't know anything about jewelry nor jewelry repair, hence the reason to go to a professional. So again she had the ring for a week or so to fix it. I got a call saying that it was ready and I picked it up. Again, it looked beautiful and I was happy to have my ring back. I WORE MY RING FOR 5 HOURS. When I looked down, the stone was gone and one of the prongs was BROKEN. I was completely furious!!!!! I called immediately to complain and ask for a refund/stone replacement. This part of my experience is why I gave two stars instead of one. She was really apologetic and offered to replace the stone which shocked me. I went in again.... And this part was the hugely frustrating part.... She looked at the ring, this time without the stone and said that the setting was so thin that the ring probably bent because of that reason and that's why the stone probably fell out in the first place!!!!! Now why wouldn't she have noticed this at ANY time before? This is her profession! How did she not check this before?! So, she replaced the stone for free said she wouldn't charge me labor and all that I would have to buy was a new seat for the stone that was thicker. So I agreed and she put in the order. When I came back in, she insisted that she never told me that she wasn't going to charge labor. I just wanted my ring back. So, $200 later (more that I purchased the ring for!) I have my ring back... The one positive thing I can say is that she's a very sincere and nice person and felt very bad about the stone falling out and I was deeply grateful that she replaced the stone for free. That being said, I'll never go back here, I recommend other people bring their jewelry to another place. read more

The woman who runs this business should have known that since the ring was stamped with the jeweler's name. This is such a great neighborhood jewelry store they have a beautiful selection and they can also replace watch batteries. I've been there several times and everyone is very friendly. I'm a completely satisfied customer. it's fun just to go in and look and see what new things they have, there's always something just so beautiful to look at. A FOLLOW UP TO DECEMBER POSTING: When the item I had ordered for a friend was not ready to be picked up as promised, and the quality was embarassingly bad, I asked for my deposit back. After a very heated exchange, and after she threw the item in question across the store, Kat gave it to me. I cashed the check immediately. This morning I received a notice from my bank informing me that Kat had put a stop payment on it, overdrawing my account. Not only is she a poor excuse for a "jeweler", but she can now add "CROOK" to her resume as well. I have been in touch with a lawyer to file a claim against Tom Kat Jewelers. I recommend that ANYONE looking for reputable jeweler run in the opposite direction of this business. I will update this posting with the outcome of the claim. read more

Coupon in the mail. Watch batteries, bogo. Website says they do watch repairs. I asked Kat, the owner, if they replaced batteries on high end watches. Sure she does! My high end watch is now at high end watch repair service as a result of the damage she caused. She claims she did not cause the damage. It was there before she touched it. Not!!! Terrific customer service! I ordered a necklace for a Christmas present and it arrived broken. The vendor never contacted me after I initially reached out to them about the problem. I called jeweler after jeweler after jeweler, to see if anyone could do a repair in time for Christmas. I was repeatedly told no until I called Tomcat. I was welcomed in and in no time, I had my friends present boxed up. The ladies were kind and professional, I was so happy and relieved. They were busy but they helped save a Christmas anyway! TL;DR My fiancé went to TomKat to get a stone set in my engagement ring. Instead of fitting the prongs to the ring properly, Kat hollowed out the prongs which made the diamond loose in the setting. I had to send the ring away to the designer (4 weeks without an engagement ring the first month of being engaged is really upsetting) and spend $500 to get it fixed and she doesn't think she did anything wrong... Said "it's ok if the diamond is spinning around in the setting" DO NOT GO HERE. My fiancé took my engagement ring and a stone he purchased separately to be set. Kat did the work, and about a week later I noticed the setting was loose. I took it to my family jeweler who said it appeared to be broken because of how the stone was sitting in the setting. He advised me not to wear it because the center stone was so loose. So I took it back to Kat and she said it would be fine and its normal for the stone to be turning in the setting. But she agreed to try and tighten it more. In doing so, she bent the metal on the prongs making them rough to touch. At this point, I refused to let her touch it anymore so I took the ring to a jeweler that is familiar with the designer. This jeweler informed me that Kat had hollowed out the prongs in order to try and fit the stone in. They also said the prongs were now too thin to adequately hold the diamond, and they were shocked that I had successfully worn the ring without the diamond falling out. They were not comfortable trying to fix her work, because she had damaged it so badly, so they advised me to send the ring to the designer to have them completely remove and rebuild the prongs on the ring. I decided to do this since it was the only real option. Once we got an estimate for the price to fix the ring ($500), my fiancé went to Kat and explained the situation to her. She asked why we didn't let her fix it, to which he of course responded that we already had and she just bent the metal and made it worse. She tried to defend herself by saying that she did nothing wrong etc. and claiming that the $500 fix is what we would have had to do if we wanted it done any other way than how she did it. She believes she did the correct thing, however, after speaking with 3 jewelers and the designer, everyone else was absolutely appalled at what she had done and had never heard of anyone doing that before. In addition, when my fiancé asked her if she had even checked to make sure the diamond was not loose when she set it, she admitted that she had not checked the setting before giving it back to him. At this point, she has only refunded the money we paid her. read more

My daughter went to TomKat to have some custom work done on a ring, We provided details and discussed in detail, however, the final result was way less than professional looking and not the quality nor even looked like the design we agreed upon and she assured us of that she could design. She offered the work to be completed in a few weeks, and since we were in no rush, we gave her months, and yet when we called her first, it was pulling teeth to ANY update from her to where she was in the progress. Finally, we had to show up on in her shop and demand answers! The excuse was wedding rings that came in and needed to be done. Really? We gave her our business in fall..... NO sense of loyalty to folks who she works with first, nor does she do quality work based on our experience, and she still charges a lot. I'd avoid the heartache and avoid this small business and go a larger professional jeweler with standards and ethics, a real work schedule and a plan to get work completed as promised..... and as expected most of all, a realistic artistic ability. read more

I had my wedding rings done here and I will never go back!!! The first day I went in here Kat wasn't even there I had to drive back the same day later to visit with her. She set a schedule to have it finished two weeks out because she was busy. I waited a day after the scheduled date to come in to pick up my ring. She was at that moment just getting started on my rings and failed to call me about it taking more time. Kat was quick to show me all the other work she was working on that day and that my ring would be finished in about 2 hrs. I asked her to call me when it was done. I didn't want her rushing on my rings when she already had two weeks to work on them. When I was walking out her door she said to someone else in the store "Nothings Guaranteed"! With that attitude I had my husband stop by and pick up my wedding bands. I was even going to join her club for 20% off but after that scene I will never be going back there. read more
