Great customer and community service! Will definitely come back again for any problems whatsoever. My tire blew out in the rain, what a bummer. Luckily, my spare was in my trunk. The problem was that the nut to release the tire from the compartment was rusted on. I walked into Husteads and talked to Junior. I asked him if I could borrow some tools to release it and he gladly helped me. These days, it's hard walking into an auto shop without getting a fee. What made things even better was that I personally couldn't get it loose so I went back. Junior was talking to Mark about a car. He introduced himself to me and they went out of their way to help me. The thing that stood out was that JR, the owner I believe, made no fuss about getting some help. To me, this shows that they care about cars and their owners. So Junior and Mark helped me loosen the nut. Not only that, but they also told me how to properly secure the nuts back on the tire after I was done changing it. While all this was happening we had a good laugh about the weather and all. Mark was on his way out so I said goodbye and finished up. Junior was an amazing help, so was Mark. If not for their community service; going out of their way to help me, I'd be stuck at another repair shop paying upwards of $100 for help. I greatly recommend this place to anyone. Wowww!!! I have never been more impressed with quality and care at any auto body repair shop than I have at this place. My car's side view mirror was broken off by a bicyclist so I made a car insurance claim but found out it would be $500 for my deductible. When I took my car to Hustead's, Junior told me he could probably find me an after market mirror for less than $500. He called me later to tell me it was only $177(!!). I had my mirror replaced today (they only had my car for 8 hours) and when I went to pick it up they had vacuumed my entire car and washed it top to bottom :)! Junior was so kind and responsive throughout this process and I'm so incredibly grateful for the amazing service I received. It's never ideal to have your car hit but if you do, Husteads does excellent work, the front desk and mechanics are very friendly, and a new addition is they send customers updates via text with progression status of your vehicle's repair. Melinda - the receptionist - was super friendly and had Vince take a look at my car. He said it would take them an hour and quoted my $100. Left the car with them and picked it up the same afternoon. I was in a horrible car accident and the rear of my vehicle was damaged. I had know idea where I would take my car because a lot had to be programmed right on my vehicle. My car insurance company said this was one of the shops they use. I took my car here they were great, communicate, kept me updated, had the rental car people drop me off and pick me up. When my vehicle was done they explained my warranty with them and gave me a bottle of Wine. I love wine AND I was going to a graduation,then to friends house after so the Wine was right on time. Hands down the best customer service! I came in to try to get some minor scratches on the rear bumper of my car removed and fix part of it that was pulled out of place. I thought i was going to have to make an appointment just to get it checked out like other body shops had told me. However, Vince made it so easy and quick for me. He took care of the minor scratches on the car and told me that he can fix the pulled out part of the rear bumper as long as I brought the bracket needed. My car was stolen a month ago. Berkeley PD found it and had it towed to Husteads because it was in a major wreck. Dealing with a stolen vehicle claim is not an easy task, there's a lot of gray area: what insurance should cover, what should come out of pocket, etc. Husteads was a great mediator and when insurance wouldn't cover something that was important to me, they found a way to make it happen. They really worked with me to make sure everything was resolved to my satisfaction. They even put a tank of gas in it before returning it. A dent caused by an nice and honest neighbor had me checking out body shops in Berkeley. I am so glad that I went to Hustead's-- they made the process as painless as possible and my car hood looks like new. The estimate was quick and reasonably priced. There was a small glitch in scheduling the body work, which should detract a fraction of a star rating. But, after not hearing back from them regarding when to bring the car in, I just called them up and spoke to the person who schedules the work. Not too hard, but a minor annoyance waiting to hear from them for 1 and 1/2 days. They called me the day after I dropped it off, and said that the body work was finished a day ahead of the estimated 3 days, and asked if they could keep the car for the full 3 days so it could be waxed/polished for free. Of course I was delighted to do so, and they did a beautiful job on both the body work and the polishing. Hustead's even cleaned the inside of my car. I was called as soon as it was ready to pick up. When I saw my car after they finished with it, I was so happy with Hustead's that I wanted to write a review about my experience. read more

I needed some work done to repair my car door. It turned out the door needed to be replaced completely (this was agreed upon by another repair shop and my insurance). When I showed up they were very friendly at Husteads, and immediately knew what had to be done and were upfront about the costs which ended up being much less than the other shop even though they were replacing the door (the other place said they might replace it, and that would cost extra, on top of an already much higher bill). They worked well with my insurance company and even threw in a little extra free work without my asking so touch up some minor scratches on the bumper. When I came to get the car (which did take a day longer than promised) it looked as good as when I first bought it. The worksmanship was top notch and it seemed like they cared about what they were doing Overall: Friendly, cheap, and care about their work. I would absolutely recommend them to others. read more

Great shop -- nice people -- very accommodating, and they did great work on my 1991 Honda Civic. It was difficult to get parts that were either available and/or would be priced below the "TOTAL" value of the car. Through his diligence and hard work, Michael, was able to find a formula for the right combination of new and used parts to enable the insurance company to ok the repairs. As used parts came in, they were inspected and rejected if they were NOT good enough. It took a while, but once the necessary collection of parts were delivered to Hustead's, they repaired the car in just a few days, matched the new paint to the old beautifully, and AMAZINGLY, even cleaned the car thoroughly! I had the most amazing experience at Hustead's Auto Body in Berkeley. I took my dirty, filthy car in on a Tuesday for what I thought was extensive damage and it was returned to me squeaky clean and like new again eight days later. Their attention to details was amazing and the office staff was so accommodating. When I returned to pick up my car they gave me a bottle of wine, offered me juice or sodas while they retrieved my car. It was so relaxing in their office while waiting for my car. Hustead's Auto Body of Berkeley has an agreement with Enterprise Rental where I dropped off my car at Hustead's Auto Body of Berkeley and an Enterprise employee came to Hustead's Auto Body of Berkeley to reclaim my rental. This is purely based on the estimate I received. I was looking for a place to fix some scratches on my bumper and fix a dent in my fender. The only reason I am writing this is because of how ridiculously ludicrous the estimate was. I really felt like the representative was trying to keep adding things onto the price. To fix a small dent and have a little paint job, they wanted $1500 more than any other place I took my car for an estimate. I just felt as if they were trying to rip me off. I can't say anything based on their repair work as I obviously did not go here, but I would get a couple of estimates if you do decide to use Husteads. read more

Whoa! McKevitt Fiat in Berkeley recommended Hustead's to me after I backed into a truck bumper and badly dented my left rear fender. I called them up and they said I could bring the car in right away. Sean took a look at the problem and said he would pop it out for nothing. Thinking I did not understand him, I asked him how much it would cost. He repeated: nothing. Fifteen minutes later I had a Fender that was 90% good as new. If I want to get to 100%, there are some minor things to do, but that is a decision for another day. In the meantime, I am surprised and delighted - stunned really - that this kind of service-oriented attitude still exists, and even better that it is in a locally-owned business. I cannot say that you will be offered a free repair, but I did and it made my day. read more

When the rental care didn't show up within the specified time they helped me out even though it wasn't their problem. I accidentally bumped my friend's car into the curb a couple of weeks ago and the front bumper become loose on one side (I thought it was broken). After taking the car to two other body shops which both refused to even looked at the car without an appointment, I went to the Hustead's Auto Body shop. A guy who was busy working on another car asked me if I need help, and when I told him the story and showed my car he told me wait a minute and went to the office to bring his manager, Vince Quihuiz. Excellent quality work, professional customer service, and timely repairs. What more can you ask for from a body shop? I am very familiar with cars and car businesses, as I personally work in the automotive industry. When my mother in law asked me for a body shop referral for her late model Mercedes, Hustead's immediately came to mind. I have used them on multiple occasions for smaller scratches and dents, and was always satisfied with their service. Her car needed some body, paint, and mechanical work all of which was done impeccably. Constant communication was kept between the shop and me during the repair, and they finished the car earlier than expected. They do work for several local new car dealerships and have direct repair contracts with multiple insurance companies. These relationships are hard to maintain, and are only reserved for the top shops. The shop has an excellent reputation in the community and I can see why. The owners really care about not only their business, but more importantly, the customers. read more

My 2008 Honda FIT needed to have the plastic covering of the headlights resurfaced. The sun had oxidized the plastic to a dull yellow that was no longer clear. First I called the Honda dealer & got a price. I was told that when I brought it in, I needed to bring it in when there was going to be 3 days w/o rain. ?? After that I called Husteads- I had already had experience there, because of an auto body repair my car needed & they did a good job doing that. I spoke to Dylan. He told me a better price then the dealer & never mentioned a 3 day weather related restriction. I made an appt. & brought the car in. Well, I have to tell you that the resurfacing job made the car look less shabby. That night when I turned on the headlights, the brightness of lights was at least 50% more. The lights illuminated further down the street then I can remember. I felt more confident driving 1-80 & 580 freeway home. I'm so glad to have done this. Dylan was so down to earth & explained/showed how I can use wax on the headlights to try to prevent the sun from oxidizing the plastic to further prolong the clearness of the plastic. This is my first Yelp review - I never review anything actually, but my experience with Hustead's was too good not to sing their praises. After someone ran in to me and "totalled" my car, I was towed to Hustead's. The damage was extensive, and Hustead's worked with our insurance company to repair it like new. They installed all new parts and engine! for my VW Passat so my car returned in better condition than before the accident. Jonathan, the manager, is great to work with. They gave us a warranty on the work and parts that Hustead's did so anytime we have a problem, Hustead's fixes it with no charge. Recently, they checked with my insurance company to see if my fan belt would be covered from the original accident ( in 2006!) (it could have been just normal wear and tear) and not only didn't charge me anything for their work, but they sent me the $200 reimbursment that my insurance company paid them to fix it. That is crazy good service. They did their best to give me good estimates on timing and were usually pretty accurate. Usually any delay had to do with parts coming in from the manufacturer, but once they received them, they were on time with their promised schedule. They also ensured that the our paint job was done correctly to match my worn black paint perfectly. Highly recommended. read more
