Spicy beef noodle soup
Sho R.

I stopped by for dinner. The place was not too busy. I went for a spicy beef noodle soup. It was flavorful without being too spicy. Quantity was sufficient for 1 person. I went for bigfen as the dessert item. I am having it for the first time. It was a slightly sweet syrup with jello and some osmanthus flower. Osmathus flower was slightly bitter. It was an ok dessert. They have happy hour 5-6:30. It was not mentioned in the website.

It's official, the dan dan is spicy and they have bingfen on the menu. I was surprised but the menu was pretty extensive and had all the favorites.

Food was solid, and the service was great. Spice was spot on for me. Portions were a little small but understandable.

We enjoyed our dinner here. The original beef noodle soup and spicy beef noodle soup are both very flavorful. Portion sizes are not too big but perfect to order with other appetizers. Highly recommend them. I am a huge lamb skewer fan and hubby always likes chicken skewers. So we are both happy and satisfied by the quality and taste of skewers here. The green scallion pancakes - oh my it's a must order! So thin, crispy and flavorful. Hot and fresh out of kitchen. We just can't stop eating them! Overall, a small but authentic and clean Chinese restaurant. They also have a drink menu. The vibe is perfect for a small group gathering or a date night!

Garlic green beans - crispy and fresh!

Wow. Man, this was some of the best Chinese food I've had in a really long time. Service? Attentive. Ambiance? Cute, intimate, and hidden. Great for a date night. Where do I even begin? Tofu skin salad was *chef's kiss* and peppery. Great chew and mouth feel. Garlic green beans were fresh, palatable, and an understandable fan-favorite per our waitress' recommendations. Sweet chili chicken popcorn was hot, moist, perfectly seasoned - could have had a whole BOWL of this! Crispy squid with house made pepper salt was one of our most favorite items. Fried seafood dumplings were perfectly fried and had a delicate texture. The bingfen was good, though we didn't love the dried flower on top and would just re-order without the flowers. The only thing we wouldn't order again is the vegetable pancakes - it's not that they were at all bad, it's just that everything else was such a standout! Gosh, if you're looking for some excellent Chinese food, this is it. I can't believe how it hasn't blown up but y'all, I can't gatekeep this.

Aesthetic: From the outside it looks like a small quaint business. When you walk in it's beautifully decorated and you're greeted by the staff. There were quite a few people already seated when I arrived with date, thankfully there were a couple tables available. We were promptly seated and given menus and waters. Staff: The waitress was extremely helpful and attentive to us. She was super friendly and kind. She was very knowledgeable, I was thankful for her recommendation. Food: I orders the braised pork rice and my date did as well, we shared the cucumber salad. Both were delicious. I couldn't finish all of my dish, so I saved leftovers for lunch the next day and it was still so flavorful and delicious. Overall: I'm super excited to go back and try their beef noodles and other items. I highly recommend this establishment, you won't regret it.

Really, really liked our meal at Hutong! I was not expecting to find such an authentic Chinese restaurant in Madison, but Hutong does not disappoint with its noodles or skewers. I have done a fair amount of traveling in China, and this place really brought be back: if you are looking for truly authentic flavors that you would get if you traveled to China, this is the restaurant for you. The outdoor patio is really nice and spacious; it was a very pleasant place to have dinner. There is a good drink menu, including cocktails, and happy hour will save you a small amount. Service was fast and friendly. Portions might have been a sad bit on the small side, but that seems to be the case in a lot of restaurants.

Small menu executed perfectly. Variety of authentic teas and beverages. And the back patio is gorgeous and relaxing.

It's a really cool restaurant with nice decorations that make it feels quite homey. The menu is small but really authentic Chinese food.

I've been in Madison for work for the past 3 weeks and have been to Taste of Sichuan several times…read moreeach week! It's been consistently good, with extremely fast service. The food is mostly Sichuan, with some American Chinese staples as well. It's also a huge space, so you'll never have problem getting a table. They do a lot of takeout business as well. I highly recommend the spicy Sichuan chicken (with tongue-numbing peppercorn), the Chongqing chicken, home style tofu, and spicy green beans. I also brought several colleagues who enjoyed Taste of Sichuan very much, and returned themselves!

The…read moreportion was very generous--not very well seasoned all the way through, but still tasty, and definitely enough for two people to eat until we were full. The server who took our order was very friendly. I was hesitating about whether to add more dishes, and he honestly told me that what we ordered should be enough. He was right--we couldn't even finish it! The restaurant space is quite large, and most of the customers seemed to be students from the nearby area. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the front desk staff had a pretty bad attitude. I called earlier to ask if the restaurant was open, and her responses were impatient, and she even hung up the phone abruptly. That really affected the overall experience. Overall, the food is good and the portions are great, but the customer service at the front desk needs improvement.

Okay wow a spot I've driven by multiple times but finally made the time to go to! I loved the vibe…read moreat Taigu and it was obviously a popular spot to the Middleton community. While they were busy, the service was so friendly and smiley- it made for such a fun time. Although they were busy, through a quick smile and usher to a table, somehow my sister and I were convinced to sit at a table with two other customers. While it was odd sitting at a table enough for six people with two strangers, we felt comfortable enough to have our own separate conversations because of the hustle and bustle around us. We ordered a plate of the housemade cat ear noodle four color vegetable. The vegetables could've been cooked through a bit more but their sauce was perfect for the dish and the noodle texture complimented the rest of the dish. We did think there might've been a higher ratio of noodle to vegetable which made for a heavier meal, so balancing those two could've been nicer. You'll definitely receive a large portion of food here- no fear haha Parking is available around the side but during peak hours definitely packed. They have free wifi!

It felt like most of the dish was just the noodles, and it was not balanced (ended up not finishing the noodles). Service is very straightforward. I appreciated that they had a clear window so you could see them making the handpulled noodles and the prices were fair, especially for state street. We got the braised beef noodle which was wonderful. Rich broth, very tender meat, which could have had thicker pieces, but I was pretty impressed with the flavor of the soup. It might have been that it was a particularly cold day and it just hit, but it worked. The pan fried dumplings were okay. The dough was a little thick and there wasn't any soup in them. Overall, I don't think there is another hand pulled noodle place in Madison, at this price and area, so I would say I'm a fan and it's worth trying.
