The repair company who had previously serviced our laundry machinery very well now has a Yelp profile which indicates that honesty or customer service is no longer a priority. The stage was set for some further online digging, and those efforts unearthed American Appliance Service. I called Nicole last Wednesday, requesting an in-home check of the washer for Monday. Nicole was pleasant and business-like. However, in my book, four hour arrival windows indicate customer contempt, poor management or both. I wasn't happy with this "policy," but in fairness, having a relatively new, premium brand washer catastrophically fail was as much grief as I was willing to acknowledge at the time. John arrived about fifteen minutes before the end of the four hour block, but got busy immediately and gave every impression of knowing exactly what he was doing. After disassembling the washer down to the driveshaft the verdict was, unfortunately, quite clear. Low-grade Chinese "stainless steel" had corroded and worn to the point of stopping the machine. Further, the parts and labor to replace this driveshaft exceeded the cost of replacing the machine. Conversation with John indicated that he had just encountered the same problem with his home washer. Discussions of his experiences produced a "lesson learned;" it seems that whether the brand is Whirlpool/Maytag, General Electric/Haier or most of the popular labels, laundry machinery is now being built to the low standards of "planned obsolescence" (5-7 years, at best). While such practices with $400-$1,200 equipment are an absolute obscenity, the fault wasn't John's. We were charged only for the $75 house call, and went shopping for a replacement that evening. Located was an LG model with a direct-drive motor and ten year warranty-- hopefully we have better luck. John's diagnostic work was top-notch, and although we didn't have the opportunity to test his repair skills-- and hope that we won't have to for the next ten years-- American Appliance Service would be our preferred vendor.

Recently the dryer stopped working, we called the store since it was still under the warranty. The woman who runs the store was helpful and offerent to give us a new dryer. Delivery was set up and on day of delivery, the guys told us they're not bringing in, that they weren't told to do that. That information wasn't shared with us prior to delivery, we took the door off so the guys can easily bring it in. The guys that delivered said they have to call the store to ask about it but instead drove off without saying anything. I called the store to speak to the woman and express my frustration. She told us that guys had somewhere else to go and wasn't going to pay for them to bring it inside and install. I didn't ask to install but to bring inside since we werent able to and if they didn't want to install, we could do it. Unfortunately she kept saying no they won't do it, she's not their boss, and can't tell them what to do. It was left outside on a rainy day. I explained my issue with that and i don't think it's good customer service especially since we were sold a dryer that only lasted two months. She then proceeded to get defensive and blamed us for breaking the dryer. That was even more frustrating and I told her that I won't be using her store any further and won't be able to give a good review and she then hung up the phone on me. It's a shame because up until today, they were great. The store was nice, had a good selection of items which even used, looked pretty new. I also need to replace our fridge, stove, microwave but will need to look for another store

Brought a less than 1 year old push mower here on a Monday. While the initial phone call was fine, the drop off was cold and full of disclaimers - it would be $25 to look at it, but the credit goes towards fixing it. If it's over $150, they will call to confirm you want to move forward, etc. Obviously for a shattered flywheel, I figured we'd be ok, so I left it there. 3 days later, as the weekend approached, I called to see when I might be able to pick up the mower. I mentioned that I dropped if off on Monday and the person on the line said "THIS Monday? I doubt if they even looked at it, yet." I started to get a bad feeling. The following week I was out of town, so I figured I'd let them have some time. They finally called the following Thursday to tell me that it was finished - 10 days after I had dropped it off. I said I would pick it up on Tuesday. When I arrived at the shop to pick up the mower, I was greeted with a $115 bill which was $140 (less than the $150 phone call threshold) minus the $25 I had already paid. I was told that the mower needed a new blade, spark plug and that the flywheel was broken. Keep in mind, I've only had this mower for a single summer, have probably used it 10 times and I keep it in the shed when not using it. Disgusted, I paid and waited behind my truck. When the mower was brought to me, I was shown a rusty old blade that looked like it was used to mow a stone quarry, just so I could see how damaged it was. Needless to say, it wasn't mine. Bottom line - be prepared to wait, be prepared to pay at least $140. I can't imagine if anything was actually wrong.
