The highest grocery prices in the Quad Cities. I use HyVee as a small items convenience store. My major grocery shopping is done elsewhere. Their fuel savers program is a joke. Gas prices are 20-30 cents a gallon higher at their gas stations & Shell which is where you redeem your points. There's actually no savings at all. The express check out is always busy & the other check out lanes are rarely busy. I guess others have come to the same conclusion as me. read more

I'm tired of Hy-Vee's way of running a store. They hire young people (that's great) but they know nothing. Ask a question and you get another young person (manager) who knows nothing. They will have 6 people in a line and won't open another line, while the head cashier (again young ) walks around looking at the lines while talking to another (young) employee. I found a worm on a bunch of cilantro, so I put it in my cart and gave it to the cashier(thinking I was doing the store a favor). She looked at it and incredibly said, "thank you, do you still want it?" I asked her, " why do you think I pointed it out and gave it to you?" Silence.........."I'm not sure?" Also, why have a happy hour at the bar/deli/restaurant and have NOBODY that is there to wait on you or know how to make a drink? I've sat there for 10-15 minutes and had numerous employees (young again) walk by me on the way to use the restroom, or come out of the deli and see me and NEVER say a word or ask if I need anything. The quality of service here stinks and it starts at the top! Btw- I saw a commercial for Jewel- if there's 3 or more in a line... guess what? They'll open another line! Hy-Vee has extremely high prices but extremely low quality of service. read more

Thought I'd try out this Hy-Vee's Chinese food. I ordered the manager's special with two entrées and two appetizers. The eggrolls and crab Rangoon were very greasy and soft, but they had been sitting with the other food for the drive home, so I just reheated it and it was somewhat better. However, the sesame chicken and Mongolian beef were both awful! The sesame chicken pieces had been burnt in the fryer until completely overdone and then added to a tiny amount of sauce to coat them. I literally got no extra sauce either, so it was just dry over cooked chicken. The Mongolian beef was cut in large chunks that were very tough. When the cheaper beef is used, it should always be sliced thin. There were also no onions included in the Mongolian beef so it was just tough beef with a tiny bit of sauce. On top of all of that, the rice was very dry. I was really disappointed because I've gotten good Chinese food at other Hy-Vees before. They usually do a nice job. Perhaps with the coronavirus, their usual chef is not at work, but if they don't turn out a good product, maybe they aren't ready to be open. read more

12/17/2020 The ship is sinking! 1. Employees in the Chinese Department ignored everyone for 15 min's and when confronted the very tall gentleman says "I'll be with you in a minute " uh what??? Horrible customer service! 2. My wife and I counted 11 patrons with no masks on.... are you kidding me, at this time during the pandemic you're going to blatantly ignore CDC recommendations or refuse to enforce!? Hmmmmm * ALSO, last week our food delivery never arrived. when we called they claimed they were "to busy" to deliver (no one called to tell us that). They offered to deliver the first thing the next day & ANOTHER NO SHOW! We then called to tell them that we would come to the store and pick it up ourselves and when we did that, our order was missing 4 items!! Cmon guys! My family hosted a LARGE Family Reunion of 175 people at a near by campground. We roasted our own pig, and got our side dishes, plus two sheet cakes from this store. I personally talked with Brandy in catering, and Tina in the bakery. They couldn't have been more helpful. I wasn't exactly sure how much food to order, since this is the first time I had ever done this, and Brandy talked me into down sizing what I thought I needed, and I'm so glad she did, I would have had WAY to much food. It was delivered on time, and with the delivery drivers help, we were set up in no time. Everyone enjoyed the food, AND the CAKE. I live near Sycamore, Il, and I also talked with Roxanne in catering at the Sycamore store, who was also a great help guiding me with food that I purchased from that store. I would cater from Hyvee again!!! Some people are so quick to criticize , when things aren't perfect, but not give credit when it's good. I would give both stores a 10 star if I could. read more

I've had it with your "policy " of scanning my drivers license! Today, I simply wanted to get a price on a bottle of bourbon. The employee wanted to scan my license before he could give me the price. It's their fault that I had to ask, because the item wasn't marked. Price gouging?? Really?? Just the price! I have questioned them before as to what the information is used for, and they don't know. Is HyVee selling this information to insurance companies? Tracking how much liquor I buy? I'm going to buy my liquor somewhere else. All I wanted was a price. Walking into this hyvee made me feel like i time traveled into the 1980's. The layout of this "old type" store really threw me off...so much i failed at getting groceries... I will not be returning. read more

My family has shopped here since it's opening and have enjoyed its growth. If we need something, we ask. If they don't stock something, we ask. Everyone is helpful and knowledgeable. Lisa in the Health Market stocked Kalona whole milk for our twin grandsons, they couldn't drink anything else. Will continue to support them, as we do other grocery stores. read more

HyVee - Silvas' Liquor Dept is now scanning your IDs and/or Driver's License when you buy beer, wine or liquor. Breach of personal info is scary these days & since I'm in my 60s there is no need to scan my personal info or DL #, etc. If you don't comply with the request, management approval is required for your purchase. BS!!! I'll take my business elsewhere & show my DL only. HyVee is getting too big for their pants in the Liquor Dept! read more

I have had many, many unpleasant experiences with this store. I finally decided it was time to write a review. I kept going back in hopes of a better experience solely because it's the location closest to my home. I should note that I shop at Hy-Vee health market because I prefer to buy organic. They do have ONE exceptional employee at the store who appears to be knowledgeable about such things and seems devoted to the concept. I don't even want to write how much money I spent there every single month, but no more. That one legit employee aside, they have dropped the ball for the last time. So here's the skinny - The health market regularly change what they stock and I find that the store is consistently missing MULTIPLE items on my list. (Beyond frustrating when they were present the week before.) On every visit I encounter empty shelves and even with the items they do have - they are consistently overpriced. In serval instances, it's laughably so! For example, a quart of Alden's vanilla bean ice cream is $10. For contrast, both the new Fresh Thyme and Natural Grocers stores have the exact same product for around $5. Fresh Thyme even runs it on sale for significantly less than that. Hotdogs are $10 bucks too....for a pack of 6. Guess what...same ones were less than 5 at Target. Produce is minimal and also way overpriced. Apparently everything is $10, because they wanted 9.99 for strawberries. I bought those at Fresh Thyme for $4. Their crazy prices aside, the service isn't that great either. I hope you don't want to buy wine for dinner, because you're never going to get through the checkout line. They aren't quick about opening any new lanes.. Top that with a group of teenage cashiers (great that they give them work, but in Illinois minors can't ring out alcohol) and only one manager in the entire store who is of age to ring people out and you could be standing there until the apocalypse. You will try to be kind and patient and understanding, but I promise you this - 20 minutes juggling your items with no end in sight will piss you off. Hope you don't have kids in tow, because you will be screwed. I got sick of this reoccurring scenario and went so far as to email corporate. Never got a response. I have probably poured enough money into that store to send their freaking kids to college and no response... smh. In a last attempt to keep the dream of any kind of convenience alive, I thought I could dodge the in-store problems altogether by doing this whole order online and have it delivered thing. But what do you know, it's not available in my area! Gaaaahhh. Whatever, ultimately going elsewhere saving me money anyway. read more

This is the worse Hy-Vee store there is. They won't open a new lane no matter how many are in line. Employees stand around talking to themselves and walk away when customers ask for help. After standing in line for quite some time, the check out guy told me to go to another land because he was closing. So Hy-Vee, I was the person who left the cart full of groceries and walked out. Tried to shop there yesterday , ( Ive been there 8 times before) When Attempted to have them price match a competitors price on an item , they said they don't do that and they won't do that . Well they need to get everyone on the same page , because They have indeed done it before on three occasions, otherwise why would I drive 12 miles shop there? Oh well , you can pay people to ring stuff up , or you can pay people to restock it, its up to you. There is nothing in your store that we can't get elsewhere, your not exclusive in anyway . So you just made up my mind for me when I am making a choice , on where to shop. And this attitude of " We are employee owned " we don't have to do anything we don't want too! has gotten really really old, as well. I take the elderly neighbors grocery shopping, I watched a guy in the produce section yapping it up for 35 minutes with his buddies and checking out the hotties, and oh he did put two heads of red leaf lettuce on the shelf. there goes your profit sharing in to the terlate. I won't mind driving to to four of the other grocery stores in the area. read more

Who would of thought you could have a great grocery store that had an equally great restaurant and bar - especially here in the "we hate change and anything new" Midwest. I went in just to see what was up after some grocery shopping and was really pleasantly surprised. Friday night specials were super and the maple/bacon wantons were terrific. Manager came buy to see how I was doing and ask about service and food which was a nice touch. Don't be fooled by this being in a grocery store - go - eat - enjoy! read more

I am shocked to read these negative reviews about HyVee. In my opinion, HyVee's employees are the epitome of friendliness and helpfulness, qualities which, again in my opinion, helped put another long-time grocery chain out of business once HyVees opened in the QCA. I have never seen them NOT jump to open another register when necessary, with the possible exception of very late at night. No store is under any obligation to match other stores' prices, it's nice when they do, but that's not HyVee's policy, so take that into consideration when you decide whether or not to shop there. As far as prices go, HyVee doesn't set itself out as a discount store, if you want that, go to Aldi or Walmart (and check prices carefully at Walmart, you'd be surprised what isn't cheaper there). read more

Love Silvis Hy-Vee! My husband recently was discharged from the hospital and is still on a port for antibiotics. Put him in a wheelchair cart and we headed for the nearest bathroom to start the IV, then on to shop. Tom W not only helped us into the bathroom, watched our cart with my husbands' coat in it but came to check on us. When we were leaving the store Tom told us we could take the wheelchair cart outside, helped with loading the groceries and wished us a good day. He sure brightened our day and made it so much easier. Most of the employees have been very helpful and friendly, but Tom stood out that day. Thanks! read more
