I bought two personal pan pizzas. They tasted good. However, it would be nice if the aluminum pans were oiled. Both pizzas stuck to the pan so tight we had to eat them with forks. We came in for Steak night June 19. The steak was way over cooked. We asked for rare and she poked the steaks and told us we got the most rare. If that was definition of rare, I hate to see well done. Dryed out and tough is more accurate and shoe leather texture made cutting with a plastic knife was difficult to say the least. To keep the meal hot we ate in the store and still was cool.Seasoning was not great either. The dinner came with either mashed or baked potatoe. We picked the baked (which was twice baked) that was more mush than potatoe. The area we ate was unkept. The trash was overflowing. Many employees ate there and just tried to push it down. I know most were not assigned to the market but, as an employee, they could have told someone. We left our dishes on table since there was little choice. We had to move my gf's mother into a Senior Living apartment in Ankeny last night. She's moving here from Oklahoma City and the items stocked between our local stores and what she is used to are a little different. One of the things she had to have is Raymundo's sugar free gelatin. Afer using the mobile app I was able to find the item in two stores. Urbandale and Mills Civic. The app even told us where to find it... Aisle 20 South. Aisle 20 doesn't have a sign on it, but there is a refrigerated section on the other side of aisle 19. After about three back and forths we couldn't find the Raymundos. I grabbed a younger gentleman who was kind of over by the meat counter and asked if he could help us. He had to go check a couple of things but came back after a few minutes. He walked with us and was able to find the item... We bought all of it. Lol While I wish the app had been a little more helpful and listed a "bay" like the Home Depot app... I bought a kids meal & got the Mongolian beef with lo mein a couple of days ago. The beef was tough and dry. The veggies were in there, but there was no sauce. It was just dry and I couldn't eat it. The lo mein was good. However, it was extremely dry. They don't pull from the bottom of the pan. I'm assuming. read more

A helpful smile in every aisle. That's how the jingle goes. Oh how I miss hearing those ads. Over the last 20 years Hy Vee has really stepped up their game. Once just the corner grocery store is now a huge chain of groceries and more. This particular location has a bank and Starbucks just inside the front doors. On week days 7 to 9 am they offer a drive up donut stand near the front door. Also in the parking lot as spring approaches is their full garden center, and year round gas station. Inside besides aisles and aisles of grocery items are small to go spots. Fresh made sushi. Chinese food. Bakery. Hickory House Comfort food. Floral department. Mia Pizza. New York Style deli. Pharmacy. DSW shoes. And and small clothing shop. A stop once and shop for every thing store. I miss this Midwest chain. Open from 5 am to midnight 7 days a week. read more

Hy-Vee needs an updated review from a Yelper!! This is my Hy-Vee, guys. I love Hy-Vee and I've been loyal for the last 5 years as we have been changing our eating choices and diets. This location has everything I need for groceries. I do most of our shopping in the produce, Health Market, bakery, and fish market. I love the Basin shop for gifts and the nice selection of greeting cards on the other side of the shop. The Wine and Spirits department carries my favorite local wines. I typically find all I need in stock too. It's rare that something I'm looking for is out of stock. Employees are always willing to help out: finding a product, ordering something new to have in stock, carry out groceries, drive up groceries, wrapping up fish the certain way I need it, you name it! They've accommodated my family in our grocery needs. Their prices are in line with Whole Foods for me. I like that there are fast food choices and Starbucks coffee (however I won't drink that...I would love to see a local coffee shop come in instead) I recommend and support shopping local. HyVee isn't my favorite store due to some high prices, however, it's my favorite store to shop in just because of the large selections and easy navigation and especially this hyvee- a great atmosphere. The layout is fantastic and well-executed. Never any guesses as to where something is. This hyvee is very upscale. Today I waited 45 minutes to receive my order. After the long wait I only received 2 bags out of a $300 order. When I asked the employee where the rest of the order is he told me he thought that was everything; WRONG!! I then talked to another staff member who told me they COULD NOT FIND THE ORDER. Later I called to talk to a manager and was only told that they would find my order and have it Door Dashed by the end of the night. Fortunately I don't have any where to be tonight but so frustrating. This is NOT the first time something like this has happened to me at this HyVee. In the last 2 months I have received 2 INCORRECT AND/OR SOMEONE ELSE'S ORDERS AND had another 2 orders "LOST". After telling the manager my dissatisfaction and want to shop else where all he said was "Oh Sorry but we will get this order to you at some point." I would give 0 stars if that were an option. I use to love the Hy-Vee in Urbandale's bakery and have ordered cakes for over 15 years for all my kids birthdays and different events. Lately they've had what sounds like 13 yr. Olds answering the phones and taking orders. They have no idea how anything works and can't answer simple questions. This is my favorite Hy-vee. Tjey have daily specials in the deli. Monday & Friday are pizza slices & I always enjoy their pizza. They have delicious fried chicken. The mashed potatoes are sub par I wouldnt recommend & the gravy is an awful soupy salt mix. The brussels sprouts are great, as are the broccoli, mac n cheese. I also wouldn't recommend the Chinese with Panda Express so close just go there. It's better & cheaper (sorry but the few times I had Chinese here it wasn't very good & overly salted & peppered). They have great & friendly employees in every aisle as well as reguster & customer service. Can always find what I want here quickly. Definitely recommend this Hy-Vee & the Redbox is inside instead of outside (which I like when I'm selecting but not when I'm dropping off lol). read more

Stopped in to grab a quick bite on a Saturday night and found myself standing indecisively over the sushi cooler. The guy working at the counter (I should have gotten his name) asked if I needed help finding anything or anything whipped up. I hesitated, afraid to give him extra work, but he insisted that he was happy to do it, then proceeded to custom make me the poke bowl of my dreams. I'm very disappointed in the recent changes Hy-Vee has implemented regarding their delivery policies and fees. In the past, if a customer spent $100 or more, delivery was free as long as you accepted it being done in a 4-hour window. Now they want to charge an annual fee of $99 or $9.95 per delivery, regardless of how much is purchased. As a disabled person that lives on an extremely limited income and cannot walk far or carry bags, I appreciated their delivery service so very much & often sent my thanks, plus often spent well over their $100 minimum limit. While I understand they are a business out to make a buck, it seems to me that this new fee structure is an easy way to weed out serving the disabled and low-income customers. I'd much rather shop local, but in light of my health declining, Amazon Pantry has to get my business for dry products (delivered to my door) and I'll need to rely on others to bring perishables from other local groceries. I'm so very disappointed & saddened Hy-Vee isn't there to serve all levels of customers. read more

What keeps me coming back? It's right across the street from my office. I've never been a huge fan of Hy-Vee, but when you are in a hurry guess what, yep you guessed it proximity. The best thing they had going for them was the produce. Not so much lately. It's really slipped, wilted lettuces, dried out "fresh" mushrooms, and cut down packaged vegetables. It wasn't that way in the beginning and I guess the shopper does dictate what is stocked. But, I have the feeling the produce manager has changed and this has been the slide of their produce department. I never purchase meat at Hy-Vee. To be honest I've never had any that had flavor. Their beef is bland, the pork has all of the fat trimmed off, and the chicken is mealy and colorless. All of their ground beef comes from a tube, nothing is ground in house. They regrind the tubes meats so they can say they grind it in house. Ask they'll be honest with you at the meat counter. The one big issue I have with Hy-Vee is the prices jumped when they started their gas for groceries program. No I won't pay a higher price for food just to save a nickle at the pump. Give me quality groceries at a reasonable price and gas at the same prices everyone else is charging please. Keep your low budget meats and produce and watered down gas. read more

My wife and I ate at the Grill Market for lunch again today. We had previously had lunch there and experienced Bus personnel wiping the tables down with the same cloth they had wiped the dirty seats off with. We brought this to the checker's attention and she assured me that this was not normal practice and assured us that it would not happen again. We observed several tables being bused and once again the same cloth was used to wipe the seats and the table tops. GROSS! I'm not sure we will be eating here again. read more

They have a big selection but the prices are high! I like their bread made at the bakery. I can not stand the fact the cashiers make you load your own bags in the cart. The Urbandale HyVee is really a stellar store. When you walk in they always keep a basket of fruit (free) for your kiddos. It's just an extra nice thing they do to welcome you into their store. But the kindness doesn't end there. When we reach the deli area, a young man who has gotten to know our family always has a huge smile on his face and knows my girls always like a slice of Colby cheese. But again the kindness continues on, there is an older gentleman that has taken notice of our two little girls and when he sees us he heads right to the bakery and grabs them a cookie. You know, it's just a satisfying feeling knowing that really kind and thoughtful people work at this store location and we feel so happy shopping there and would definitely recommend this store to other families. Still totally blitzed at having returned to a place with decent grocery stores. Hy-Vee is infinitely better than the Giant Eagle we were stuck with for over a year. Good food, actual AE dairy products, seriously helpful staff and management that listens, and you can get a reasonable discount on gas. If you hear someone gripe about Hy-Vee, tell them to spend some time in Pittsburgh cooking their own food and they'll change their perspective. They don't know how good they have it. Oh yeah... From what I seen I was very sad at the management today. These teenagers take there time over the summer and do jobs most people would hate. It's 90 degrees outside and are probably exhausted. I saw a worker quickly look at there phone and get yelled at and a dirty look which made me feel so bad for the kid. Like management is never on there phone. The lady who said something ended up standing there with someone else having a conversation. People are human. There's no need to embarrass someone. For me watching that I felt embarrassed. If there's a problem it's best to have a one on one convo, or let him know if it was something important that he can take the time and go somewhere private. Tonight was our last try with this place. My wife ordered a BLT which came on some pita bread with ONE piece of bacon roughly 1/2" x 3" on each half of the "sandwich" and chafes $8.99 oh and both of our fries were cold. This is my go to grocery store since I live super close to it. I usually do my shopping late in the evening due to me being a night owl, so it's never busy. If you go after work it can be pretty hectic on there. Hyvee has everything you would want in a grocery store and it even has an organic section too. There is a Hyvee wine and spirit which has a vast selection of beer wine, and liquor. There is a Market Grill which I haven't tried yet but it looks promising. There is also Chinese, sushi, pizza and American cuisine available. The Chinese is ok, the pizza is better, I haven't tried the sushi since I can only see myself getting it maybe after a drunken night while roaming around Hyvee for pizza or something lol. The prices aren't the lowest but they do have random sales that are decent. I'm more interested in the convenience factor so that is why I shop here and will continue to do so. Disappointed in the quality of Hy Vee steaks. In the past week have eaten filets purchased at the Ankeny and East University store in Des Moines. The steaks where HyVee's grade Prime Reserve and Angus Reserve. The meat was lean and lacked flavor. I'm not a butcher, but I don't think any of the steaks were choice. If you not familar with beef grades, in the non Hy Vee world there are eight grades of beef and the top three are prime, choice and select. I don't why Hy Vee developed thier own grading system but I suspect it was to the hide the low grade of beef they sell. For the prices charged by Hy Vee better options are available. If I could give the beef they sell a zero star I would. read more

If you are ordering on Hyvee Aisles online, don't believe what it says they have.....not even at checkout. Yes, the charge after they pull items. BUT, if they wait to pull the items for a while, your item will be gone (especially essentials). You find out about 4 or 5 hours later that they don't have it. Do not waste your money in fujisan sushi. Sushi rice was so over cooked it had the consistency of wall paper paste. Tuna had a not so fresh odor and avocado in vegetable roll was fibrous and brown. They use Lee kum kee soy sauce, a very low quality soy sauce made in China with many bad preservatives including controversial sodium benzoate. The seaweed salad was good though. This hyvee is fairly new and all decked out. Inside there are a few different fresh food grills including asian, pizza, a deli, and a couple more. They have a huge variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. As well as a huge meat department and also cheese. Tons of cheese. Which is awesome. I love cheese. The bathrooms are clean, besides the iowa state photo in one. The staff are always helping and courteous. There is a liquor and beer section located to one side. There is also a large area for super healthy foods. Like trader Joes stuff. And lastly there is a huge aisle filled with m&m dispensers! read more

I like shopping at Hy-Vee but recently I have been unhappy over the expiration dates. They sale food that expires in 5-7 days. Whether it be meats, milk, eggs or breads. Not everyone shops for a few days. Some shop for the month, I would expect something like this from Save-A-Lot not from Hy-Vee for the prices we pay. I live over an hour away from this store, but when I am in the area I love to stop here! They offer more than any other grocery store I've seen. They have Gelato, Chinese Food, Sushi, Pizza and more! They also have a Market Restaurant that has a good menu and they said if it's not on the menu they will make it for you! I had the Chinese food and pizza several times that were very good, one busy Saturday they ran out of tables in the dining area and told us to we could sit in the restaurant which was quiet and nice. They have a nice selection of bakery items and goodies, tons of cheese and meat options! The options in general are very huge even when it comes to bbq sauce! I could browse this store for hours! I've never had a bad customer service experience and have gotten through the lines fairly quick even on a busy Saturday! read more
