I have been living in Evanston for around 20 years and I never thought I will live in a hotel but I stayed at the the Hyatt house for over 100 days. It was the best days ever from the minute I walked in. Arturo, a front desk worker, welcomed me warmly which was when I knew that it was gonna be very comfortable stay for me and my family. He's is the best. Everyone in the hotel were super nice and the manager (Michelle) was always smiling and checked in on us a lot to see if we were comfortable there. Then I met Summer. She was really super super nice like Arturo. Everyone at the reception was really super nice and even for the house keeper are really nice. Selvia and Claudia was really nice. Even if I didn't need cleaning they always just checked in on us. Victor and his coworkers who did maintained for the room were very kind and checked in a lot. I really felt sad to leave the hotel. I felt like I was in my house because of everyone's kindness. I just wanna say thank you to the company for having great staff in Evanston location they are the best. We made a last minute reservation here after losing power for a few days. Staff were all great and super friendly. The rooms were spotless and beds were comfortable. This is my favorite hotel to stay in when I visit Chicago for any reason. I am always treated well by the staff. The room is always comfortable. Extra towels and it is always very restful. I get plenty of sleep and feel rested when I wake up. Their rack rates for business travelers isn't too outrageous. The only time my sleep is disturbed is when I eat too much and my belly is too full. Therefore, I eat my heavy meal during lunch and eat lighter at supper helps me sleep better. read more

I was looking for a quiet place to meet an old friend for a drink and pick on her brilliant mind on an opportunity. She suggested Hyatt House since the location is convenient for both of us. Upon arriving, my friend had the valet meet me at the entrance and sashayed into the hotel like she owns the place! We situated ourselves in the bar area and the front desk attendant, Olivia, promptly walked behind the bar to take our orders since there was no bartender on duty at the time. One brownie point for Olivia. Although my choice of poison is simple to make, it is unusual. Olivia admitted she doesn't know how to make it, but with the recipe I gave her, it was perfectly done. Two brownie points for Olivia. The hotel lobby was nice and quiet on a Saturday night with guests returning from their venture sporadically. I was able to catch up with my friend, shared many laughs, and gained a lot of insights with no-nonsense advice from her. Oliva quietly checked up on me and my dear friend every so often. She was never intrusive. 2 more brownie points for Olivia! To be honest, the idea of meeting for a drink and discussing at the hotel bar never crossed my mind. The bar/lounge area was spacious and clean. I enjoyed the experience tremendously. I'd highly recommend a casual meeting and a drink at the hotel bar than a typical bar where the noise level can be clamorous. Located in the heart of Evanston, there are plenty of shops and eateries within walking distance. In addition to valet parking, many available (pay) street parking along Chicago Avenue in front of the hotel are available. My partner and I came here for a spontaneous staycation since our company offered a corporate discount. Since this one included complementary breakfast, we just said to ourselves "why not...just book it and try it out!" I do want to say that the reason for only rendering four stars was the cost. I used a discount and that saved me approximately $20 below the standard rate. Without this, I would think this place might be slightly over-priced. We were satisfied with our stay for the most part. The location was great because one could get anywhere in downtown Evanston within a walking distance. We drove to the hotel but opted for street parking and paid online via the app (free after 9pm...but still park with discretion just in case). Otherwise, the establishment would offer valet parking for a fee. I'm going to break it down in categories to review some of the highlights during our stay. 1) Room and amenities: I didn't notice any extreme dirty/untouched/dusty spots, but there was a good amount of wear and tear on the walls, ottomans, sofa, and etc. It meant that items were maintained through regular cleaning, yet I would recommend that in a few years down the road, the management should use some face-lift to update the rooms at least. There was no tub, just a shower. Communal body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were available and smelled decent. Everything was in a working condition. It was really nice to have a microwave and a mini fridge though. We were able to keep our teas from "Happy Lemon" cool throughout the night. By the way, bring your own hairdryer if you care. The one they had in the room was quite loud for the high setting, but little power with the low setting. 2) Check-in/check-out: it was a breeze! I got a e-mail conformation for an express check-in and the front desk person only needed to see a government-issued ID upon arrival. On the other hand, the check-out was fast as well. I requested an e-mail invoice but the staff could print out a paper hard as well. 3) Places we didn't visit...maybe next time: we didn't check out the gym since we only stayed for one night. The staff also mentioned that bar was open from 5-7pm (not sure this is for the weekend as well since we checked in on a Thursday afternoon). 4) Breakfast: it was extensive for a continental breakfast. There was even a made-to-order omelet station that you could circle the ingredients you wanted on it. It wasn't busy so I saw other people get their omelets quickly. Unfortunately, we were on a time crunch and only had about 30 minutes to dine before it was time to pick up our son. We did enjoy the oatmeal, the scrambled eggs, sausages, hard-boiled eggs, juice, and tea. Personal-sized cereal boxes with varieties were up for grabs. Wish they could open the breakfast at 6am rather than 6:30am on a weekday, but that was just my minor complaint. Overall, we would definitely come back and have a better-planned staycation. The room we stayed was a regular king-sized room, not the ones with a separate living room and kitchenette. For those who are visiting the Northwest University for a extended period of time. This hotel would be a good one and one can fix their own meals and there is a Target and Wholefoods nearby (all within a walking distance). Otherwise, a plenty of restaurants, cafes, retail shops are all close by! read more

Went here for a Happy Hour at their bar in the lobby, so I don't know about the rooms or other aspects of the service, but the bar area is basic. Some seating and a fully stocked bar. There was an area for food setup and the atmosphere was cozy. It's a nice place in downtown Evanston to meet for drinks. read more

I highly recommend this Hyatt House. The staff are warm and welcoming, customer service is great, and the rooms are modern and clean with all the necessary amenities. The free breakfast is also one of the best free hotel breakfasts I've ever had because of the awesome omelet bar. Everyday, they had breakfast meats, scrambled eggs, potatoes, French toast or waffles, a cereal bar with dairy and plant-based milks, coffee, tea, juice, fruit, pastries, bagels, and cottage cheese. The eating area and bar is spacious with lots of natural light - a pleasant place to sit and have breakfast in the morning. The gym here is pretty great - the machines are new and it's clean and spacious with views of the outside. Free weights, machine weights, ellipticals and treadmills. Perfect. the other great thing about this hotel which we didn't really get to take advantage of since it's November, is the outside patio area that features a BBQ grill, tables and chairs and pretty plants. This would be a great place to host a party if you were visiting from out of town. It would also be a perfect place to host a happy hour or work event. I will say that we stayed the night before Thanksgiving - the biggest party night of the year - and there was definitely a loud party next door until 4am. I really wasn't bothered, but I'm a heavy sleeper that travels with earbuds so I can block out unwanted noise. I'd bet that folks on my floor called and complained, but they really weren't quiet until 4am. We will stay here every time we visit Chicago! read more

In a nutshell: it's no Hype House... but it's ~decent~ ----- Couldn't help the TikTok reference lol, for the Hype House was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard the hotel's name. The Hyatt House very much fits in with the rest of Evanston, with a chill and slightly more modern vibe, and is located in or near the heart of the suburb. Various eateries and shops surround the hotel, almost all within walking distance, so you're sure to find something that works for you. Our one-bedroom suite followed a dark minimalistic design with enough necessities and extra furnishes to make for a comfortable stay. The room size is fine, in the sense that you can do very lopsided cartwheels across without hitting any furniture. My one quibble is that the main bedroom area lacked a larger, overhead light, which gave the room a rather dim (and kind of spooky) glow once night fell. And like the other reviews mentioned, the view is... underwhelming (some dead plants and industrial power blocks and black wired fences, oh my!), but it's not really an issue that concerns me. This may sound confusing, but the toilets don't flush with... certainty. Okay, they really flush fine, but when you push the handle down, it feels as if it falls a bit short, like there's further down it could go and it's just being blocked somewhere inside. Honestly though, that's probably just a personal idiosyncratic observation-heed this no attention. The staff are professional and provide great service; our first day, we found the coffee machine broken, and the hotel quickly dispatched a nice staff member up to exchange the machine with a new one. Hyatt House offers free breakfast from 6:30-9 am, and the food is sufficient to satisfy one's stomach. The day's offerings generally consist of 4 main courses that vary between: scrambled eggs (weirdly dry, without the usual tender texture), mini waffles or pancakes, crispy potatoes (served with bell peppers which was a surprisingly nice touch and splash of colour), and fried bacon or sausages. For drinks, there's coffee and tea offered, but I wish Hyatt had more fresh fruit options apart from apples and bananas. I also noticed some yogurt pots, wrapped muffins, and other types of bread on hand, so all in all, you get your money's worth with breakfast. Of course this is no mansion, it's no Hilton, but when you're living the ol' simple life, Hyatt works just fine, and my family was quite pleased with our visit :) read more

I booked with reservations and they confirmed this hotel had a pool. We got there and had a disappointed 6 year old- I'd of never chosen this hotel otherwise. They offered nothing just sorry. The worst. The staff was not great, just kinda felt gross. The building itself is very old and it felt like lipstick on a pig. The breakfast was decent. The room was very small and we paid $260 for a suite. Could hardly walk around the beds. This is a dog hotel too. We don't have dogs and don't usually pay $260 to stay in a dog hotel. The shower felt very tinny and creaky. You hear everything it's not great. Not sure what Hyatt is thinking with this hotel. I'd go elsewhere. read more

Hyatt House is a nice hotel in downtown Evanston. Everything feels really new. I arrived very early Sunday and was able to do an early check in because they had some availability and they were nice enough to let me do that. Until then, I was able to enjoy the facilities including eating their free breakfast. The breakfast itself is all right, nothing special, but I do appreciate the abundance of coffee. The room itself is good. It feels very clean and modern. The lights are a little on the dim side and there is no overhead light for the living room though. They also don't give you lotion so you need to ask for that at the front desk. Overall I was quite pleased with the staff and with the stay here. I would stay here again if the time came. read more

This is a new hotel in downtown Evanston. It's central to everything from restaurants, gym, the lake, train station, shopping, etc. I visit my parents in Skokie from SF, so definitely we will be staying here again when we are in town. We stayed in a one bedroom suite, the living room was large and the kitchen is pretty spacey. The had a microwave, stove, sink and fridge. Breakfast is included in the am, with fresh omelettes made to your liking. Customer service is great, they sell chips, ice cream, drinks for late night cravings, but be ready to pay 400% more. So the tip is, walk a few blocks away to CVS and get your snacks! Parking is a challenge, but they have valet for $29 overnight. For the convenience of what's around the hotel pay up or don't bring a car and uber where you need to go or walk or take the train! read more

You can do much better. This is a newish downtown hotel. But none of the rooms get a decent view of anything. And service is NONEXISTENT. They will not send a maid up to your room unless you have stayed more than 3 days. Tough cookies. You want breakfast? They claim they serve breakfast, but there was not a single thing I could eat there. Everything is full of sugar, junk food. Horrible. You cannot get even some simple unpoisoned food like a hard boiled egg. Nor a bagel. Nor an apple. Not to speak of asking for scrambled eggs. What truly took the prize for us was NO TEA!!! The first morning, they ran out of everything but chamomile. The next morning they had NO TEA. I think even at a Motel 6 they would be able to serve you tea. In other words, the management just does not care about you. You should not care about them, then, also. read more

Decent modern hotel, we came up here to escape from Lolla downtown for a "staycation" one night. The rooms were nice and the AC worked well (it was 95 out) and it's in a great location by downtown Evanston, walk to everything you need. The hallways were unfortunately quite noisy most of the time with families and kids running around, there wasn't much buffer for noise there. The breakfast was decent hotel-food type services but it was pretty crowded and they were out of coffee for a little bit which was briefly deflating, it was a big crowd to keep up with! read more

This is a newer hotel with nice rooms & lobby. The beds were comfortable. We had a good rate too as part of a wedding party. The hotel is in a great location in downtown Evanston with several restaurants and shops close by. We arrived at 3 pm (check in time) and waited about 30 minutes to get our room. We had free breakfast the first day, which was standard hotel ree breakfast (bagels, yogurt, scambled eggs, sausage, fruit, etc). The staff at the valet at the hotel were very good and hustled to bring the car around timely when needed. On the second night, we returned about 11 pm from our formal wedding and our room key did not work. After being sent back up to our room three times with new keys, we were told the lock battery was dead and we would be put in another room. ALL OF OUR BELONGINGS WERE IN OUR ROOM THAT WE COULD NOT ACCESS. However, we were told our items would be safe but we would need to sleep in another room provided until their engineer could let us in the next day at 10 am. I am a frequent traveler and have NEVER had something like this happen. We slept in another room (with no PJs, toothbrush, etc). I checked with the front desk at 7 am and they had just fixed the lock so we could go back to our original room. We were literally locked out for 7 hours. They discounted our room (still paid about 40% of the rate for that night), but that is not a concession for not being provided our room the full time. That's literally why you stay at a hotel. I have stayed at another Hyatt hotel (Hyatt Place) and it was very well run. I WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS ONE AND STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT STAY HERE. Also, upon reviewing the bill more closely when I got home, they charged me for two cars not one for both nights. I called and they adjusted the extra parking off our bill. On writing this, still waiting for the refund to process on our credit card. read more

We recently stayed here for the weekend in the end of July / beginning of August 2020 for our wedding. Everything about the hotel was wonderful! The staff were nice, and had everything ready for us as we requested (rooms upgraded to suites, reserved conference room for getting ready). The valet parking was quick and convenient. The individually wrapped breakfast items included in your stay were just enough along with a coffee. Overall it's a very nice hotel and I would stay there again if spending a weekend in Evanston. They are centrally located in easy walking distance to everything. Only downside is the bar is closed, not sure when it's reopening. read more

Stayed 3 nights - Overall a pleasant experience. Hotel is in a great location with a Whole Foods two blocks up and a Trader Joes 4 blocks down. Plenty of dining options within walking distance and the Elevated Train (Purple Line) is just a short walk away. This is a new Hyatt House with the new concept of a hotel bar and made to order food. This is convenient but if you have stayed at any of the older Hyatt House locations with complimentary beer/wine and light snacks M-Th evenings, you won't find that here. Rooms are well equipped with full kitchen and fullsize fridge. Our suite had two TVs and a pull out sofabed. We paid with points, so I can't comment on value but it's worth checking out as an alternative to downtown Chicago. About 30 minute train ride to Little Saigon and about an hour to the Chicago stop on the Red Line Hotel staff was friendly and personable and Valet parking isn't too bad given Chicago - $29/night. It was very clean and I felt safe there. It was in a very good location. But, the positives stop there. The hotel staff have very poor communication skills. They didn't greet me or say, how was your stay? When I arrived initially, the guy who waited on me didn't even speak, not even "may I help you?" He just gave me the room number tags. He eventually became more receptive & accommodating later on in the evening but he was never really approachable. The next morning, I said, Good Morning to one staff member, he looked right at me with a stone face with no response. These people are serving the public but are not customer friendly at all! It seems like they are just there to get paid. But without customers like me, they could not get paid. The breakfast was horrible, it's just that I've experienced way better breakfasts at other hotels that were not even 4 or 5 star. The quality of the food was very poor. All I could stomach was pineapple, juice, coffee, toast and yogurt, it was a full breakfast service. This is probably one of the best Hyatt Houses I've stayed in. The hospitality and excellent service starts off with the valet service. We drove up to the front of the hotel to heck in and parked in the disabled parking spot (for which we had a placard for). We had two large luggages and three kids so it's was very challenging way to travel. The valet was gracious enough to offer the luggage cart and load all our things on it. The lobby has a lounge and bar area The front desk was friendly and helpful. Checking in early was "easy breezy". We booked a two queen one bedroom suite and it was a GREAT size for two boys, one newborn, me, and my husband. We had a sufficient kitchen area with a full sized refrigerator. One of our favorite part about the hotel was they gave us a corner room that overlooked Chicago Ave, so we had a great view of downtown. The room was VERY clean and modern. The blinds are electrical. There was no signs of mold (which we have experienced too often with Hampton Inn). The hotel allows you to borrow things like a phone charger, games for the kids, nightlight, white noise makers, etc. I'M EXTREMELY IMPRESSED BY THIS. The hotel is walking distance to ALOT of restaurants and grocery stores (whole foods). It's also walking distance from Northwestern University and the CTA Orange Line. I highly recommend this place as we will only be staying here whenever we visit Chicago. I'm also saying goodbye to Hilton hotels...as I am now convinced that Hyatt is a way better chain. read more

Came here for the weekend for a wedding. The hotel seems newer. I got upgraded due to my status with Hyatt. Car valet was always prompt. The free breakfast was average, but it is free. So expectations are never super high. Location is great, walking distance to shops and food. The gym is nice for a hotel, definitely worth a visit. Front desk staff are pretty non informed about local area. They did not know where I could get a last minute tuxedo shirt.... found that odd. Wish they could put moisturizer, q tips, etc in the room. Slow to provide items to room... could just be weekend. I would stay again, but hope a couple things would be more buttoned up. read more

Stayed here over Christmas while visiting family. The hotel is nice. Quiet and comfortable with nice rooms. And when I say quiet, I mean it. Most hotels are a cacophony of slamming doors and pounding footsteps. Not the case here. Maybe it was just luck? In the room, the blackout shades were legit--not a ray of light entered the room. View was blah, but who really cares. It's Evanston, not Maui. Temperature control for the room was simple. Internet worked without a hitch. The hotel provided a pack n' play for the baby. Bathroom had no tub, which was only a consideration for us because we have a baby, and it's easier to bathe her that way. But they were nice bathrooms. Clean and upscale with good water pressure. Breakfast was good, about what you'd expect from a hotel. They did offer made-to-order omelets. Seating can get tight in the eating area, especially if you're traveling with a non-stop baby who's a menace to society like we were. The gym is great for a hotel gym. And lightly used while we were there. Unexpected and nice. Free earbuds if you forget yours. Parking seemed pricey, but we didn't have a car. Location is nice, on the periphery of downtown Evanston. Lots of stuff to walk to, including restaurants, stores, theaters, and the lake. Staff was friendly and attentive. We've also stayed in the Hilton Gardens in Evanston, which was perfectly acceptable. But the Hyatt House had a more premium, boutique feel. It seemed quieter and more upscale. If we had a car, maybe Hilton Garden would be a better option because I think parking is free there. Overall I'd strongly recommend Hyatt House for a visit to Evanston. Did not have a hotel vibe, which was nice! read more

After a rough start, with great customer service, this hotel was able to turn things around! Finding the right room is a HUGE part of feeling welcome and comfortable for the duration of your stay. Lucky for us, we were able to find the right fit for us! Our stay was perfect... quiet, comfortable, clean, and we felt so at home, that we had a hard time checking out! Breakfast is included every morning for a great start! We found the location of the hotel to be EXCELLENT! Everything was less than a 5-10 minute walk away from everything! The Front Desk Manager(s) we're very helpful and accommodating. Being a former Marriott Platinum member, I got accustomed to being a little spoiled. Because I do not have frequent business travels any longer, this is a great option for a "Home Away from Home" or a business feel. We booked 15-20 rooms with Hyatt House for the night before and of our wedding a few doors down at Evanston Crystal Ballroom. The hotel itself has wonderful rooms and the breakfast was fantastic the next morning - omelettes made with whatever you please, a great choice of meats and eggs, etc. The lobby is also warm and welcoming, and aesthetically modern. However, the 1-star review lays in issues with communicating with staff and some misrepresentations on the part of the staff. We booked the rooms out months in advance for a wedding block, and were under the impression these rooms would be together. They ended up being sporadic throughout the hotel and we were not near our friends - which was pretty inconvenient and disappointing. People were hung up on and had trouble booking rooms online, and emails and voicemails would go unanswered for several weeks, in the weeks leading up to the wedding.. Furthermore, the most upsetting part was that we spoke directly to hotel administrative staff about having the bar opened late, as our wedding ended at 11:00 and we requested their bar remain open for the dozens of guests we had staying there. The bar was not open, and hotel staff at the desk had no notice of this. It goes without saying, but this was a huge bummer. Generally, what we would expect of a hotel that hosts a large party was not accomplished and this certainly left a sour taste in our mouth. I am understanding of accidents, miscues, etc. and sensitive to this, but for this to occur with the cost we put into this, and we are by no means demanding people nor those who expect the best or nothing else, we are quite dismayed and would not recommend Hyatt House for any large group bookings. We spend quite a bit of money here and usually the stay is pleasant but do not ever leave anything in your room! I recently stayed here and I left my jacket in the room. I know I left it here because I did not stay anywhere else and looking back I remember not packing it. The jacket was really expensive and so I called and let them know I left my jacket in room 710 and they said they didn't have it and were rude about it. I mentioned that it couldn't be anywhere else besides the hotel and she insisted there was no jacket and made it seem like she was annoyed that I made them check. I called back the next day to talk to someone else because they were so rude. The other person was very friendly, but they said they had no jacket in the lost and found. They offered to check in with cleaning crew and leave a note because we were coming back to stay in a couple of nights. When I got there it didn't seem like anyone actually checked with the cleaning crew or wrote a note and still no jacket. When you invest soo much money (at least 5-10) rooms per trip, you would hope they could at least have your back when you forget an item of clothing, especially when it was a brand new jacket for your birthday. If you're going to accuse someone of doing something make sure it's backed up. Then when we decided to leave after our 30 min stay, not kicked out ,left, you could've apologized, try to see if we could be accommodated any other way nope if you need a refund contact hotels.com. Beautiful hotel, nice staff, questionable service from the young lady who happened to be the manager. It takes only one to leave a sour taste in my mouth. There's not enough comfy rooms , beautiful hotels, and free breakfast for me to book a stay here again. Have to do better! read more

Nice hotel. Valet parking is a bit problematic (there are only two or three spots) The complimentary breakfast is very similar to that of other Hyatt hotels but surprised us (in a good way) with a breakfast omelet bar' .... much nicer than scrambled eggs from a serving tray ..... this hotel is clean and well taken care of. If the three we have stayed at the past 3 nights, this one is, by far, the nicest. read more

I just completed 4 nights at this place. I have stayed at many Hyatt properties and never experienced anything like this. The place looks shabby and dingy when you walk in. Check in uneventful. WIFI did not work in room, they moved me, no better. On phone w their vendor and just got run around. Had to cancel planned on line meetings!!! Bathroom sink did not drain, lightbulbs not working in lamps. Heating system horrible either too hot or too cold, no air circulation. Management obviously disengaged, elevator floors dirty, Bar looked uninviting, Breakfast mediocore. A horrible time and waste of money biggest rip off 30/day valet parking. This is Evanston Illinois not Manhattan. Hard to imagine the positive reviews on this site were not written by Hyatt employees. A dingy, claustrophobic hotel with major systems like ventilation and wifi that work sporadically. read more
