Today was on a whole other level... my frankenstein electric cargo bike lost a crank mid ride. The crew replaced the bolt and tightened everything up at no charge as they were nearing closing time, with a huge smile on. More stores need to keep it simple, do a good job, and be nice like the folks at Conte's.

I first went to another bike shop in falls church and the guy looked at my bike and my hubbies bike and quoted us quite a lot of $$$ to get the bike fixed and there would be quite a long wait. After waiting weeks for the bikes - my hubby called the other bike shop and asked for our bikes back. ( they didn't even get to our bikes yet!) . He then called conte's bike shop and they said to bring the bikes in for an assessment. So we did that and the guy at Contes ( I think his name is Jeff) said that our bikes are single speeds and he could fix it right there and then. He pumped the tires, aligned the wheels and did some other things and the bike was ready to go in like 10 minutes. ( both bikes). He didn't even charge us because the fix was so straightforward. He was honest about everything and very knowledgeable. I appreciated that he didn't take advantage of us novice bike owners. If you want an honest assessment of your bike - go here. Don't even bother with anywhere else.

I popped in almost 8 weeks ago and met with the new owner. Asked him for a recommendation and he steered me towards the least expensive Marin, explaining that is all I'd need as a weekend rider. He was honest that the bikes were on back order and it took far longer than either of us expected, but he kept in touch. Once they were in, I tried a few models and wound up upgrading. The folks that helped me were nice, low pressure, and genuinely wanted to be helpful- whether you're spending a hundred or thousands. Great service, good value and good selection. I prefer this bike shop to others in the area- and it is right off the bike trail. They rent bikes by the day too.

They deserve an extra star for customer service because I had opted to use my own saddle for the 8 day adventure and forgot to take it when I dropped off the bike (doh!). Unfortunately, I had already left town when I realized my error. I contacted them by email and they worked with me to ship it back to my home address. Side note: if you are bike camping the GAP/C&O, you will want to use your own panniers as the ones BWB supplies are too small to accommodate camping gear. You may want to rig your own fender system as well.

I had been less than enthusiastic since our last tandem bike jaunt in DC left me ragged and looking forward to the end. We rented a tandem bike from a known rental in DC; the bike was rickety and took effort even on the completely flat route we were on. My GF found Pedego and opted for the tandem electric bike. This was a 180 degree experience from the other rental company jn DC. The owner was friendly, attentive, enthusiastic and really made us feel welcome. He knows his bikes gave us a quick run down that made us feel comfortable. The bikes are impeccabley maintained and he's thought of everything including helmets, storage pouch, bike lock, flat tire kit etc. He was even extremely well versed on the route to Mt. Vernon. Every pointer he gave us was spot on. We made it to Mt. Vernon and enjoyed food, history, and culture. The way back was fun since the bike did all the work, electric is the way to go for tandem bike long hauls. I plan on coming back to buy some accessories for my own fat tire e-bikes. This was a memorable experience that was easy and affordable.

Not only did they provide me with some complimentary grease, their veteran team of mechanics were not only extremely patient and friendly with all the customers but were professional and efficient in their skills to complete the task as well as offer explanations on anticipating future issues such as tightening the handbrake cables after a few rides. Despite being around since 1957 and having the business passed down a generation now with over 10 locations in the area, it's nice to see they are not resting on their laurels since the staff very much had a mom/pop sensibility with good mix of older and younger staff and they seem to be very familiar with regular customers chatting with them in a first name basis and asking about other family members, like a neighborhood bartender and his/her regular patrons. I highly recommend Robert, who is sharp as a tack and has even made several YouTube videos posted on troubleshooting bicycle issues at home when he worked with a previous company. Highly recommended for all your biking needs.
