The owner, Alan, is a super nice guy who loves his products and loves getting the word out about ebikes. So here's the long version - The folks at Hybrid Pedals are totally awesome and their #1 priority is satisfied and happy customers. I (like you) read the reviews and thought "wow this place must be pretty great!!" and so I called them up to see what they could do for me. I was on a bit of a budget and explained to Alan what I was looking for and my price range and he offered me some crazy good deals on a few different bikes so that I could do a bit of research on them before coming in for some test rides. He then asked when I wanted to come by the shop because he wanted to be sure to be there personally :) When I showed up Alan and his staff showed me several options that they thought would be a good fit for me (which can be an issue as I'm 6'2") and told me about their specs and what they personally liked about each one and how they work and all of that stuff. I test drove them all and loved both the BH Neo 29er and the Currie Tech E3 Path+ that they were willing to sell to me for cheaper than I could find them anywhere online (seriously!). I decided on the 29er and drove it home! I was liking the bike and riding it around for a couple of days, and Alan even emailed me telling me to come back to the shop to pick up a free extra tire in case I ever got a flat - a business going out of their way to hook you up with free stuff days after they've sold you a product is the pinnacle of customer service!!!!! But after a few days I had some second thoughts about whether or not I had made the right choice of bike. I was going to be using this primarily for commuting and I wasn't sure if I totally loved the mountain bike feel of the 29er vs the more relaxed drive of the Path+ that I had tried. So I called Alan up and told him I was having a bit of buyers remorse and he told me to bring the 29er back in and he'll switch it out for the Path+ free of charge, no problem at all. WOW. Now don't get me wrong, Alan seemed like one of the nicest guys in the world but when I went into the shop I kind of expected him to be a little bit unhappy with my change of heart - no way! He was all smiles and reminded me that they do what they do because they want the happiest customers in the world. Well count me as happy and satisfied! My name is Dave, I have never in my life felt it necessary to any review on anything, as if I like a restaurant, I frequent it. If I don't like it, then I just don't go back to eat. In this case, I feel it is my responsibility to my fellow man/woman to share my personal experience. I am over 60 years old and suffer from a severe shoulder injury that haunts me daily. Over the past 10 years I have gained a lot of weight and when I began my search for a solution I weighed slightly over 300lbs. I had done some research and went to The Pedego Store in Old Town Alex. My objective was to get bikes for myself and my rather petite wife, but my wife is afraid to ride a bike. They were nice enough at this shop, but they just wanted to sell me two bikes without getting to the root of my need. I decided it was far too expensive to buy two bikes so I contacted Hybrid Pedals, Pedego's very first dealer and was fortunate enough to meet with Alan Levine. After spending a considerable amount of time listening to me and understanding my situation well, he was able to really take care of my need by putting me on A Pedego Stretch that is weight rated for over 600 lbs. Alan has a very keen sense and after really trying to get my wife on a bike, came to the conclusion that I would be far better off buying the slightly used Pedego Stretch that my wife can easily and confidently ride on the back of. So he fulfilled my true need and at half of the price the other shop wanted. Through this process, I was very awkward on the bike, at first and my weight was an impediment, but he and his staff worked with me to get my confidence level and balance back. I had some logistical issues getting the bike home so Dick rode the bike to my home with an Electric Scooter attached ,so he could get back to the shop. He was extremely kind and went over in detail, every aspect of the bike training me on how to properly maintain my battery etc. This has been the best and most important purchase I have ever made and this bike will likely save my life; as since I bought it in late June, I have lost 39 lbs and look forward to my daily ride that I take religiously and love every minute of, every day. Alan made a personal bet with me, so I have to lose 50 lbs to win. Dinner on him, if I lose 50 lbs by Sept 15th. I am going to win this bet and enjoy this dinner. I am now on the road to freedom from obesity and I have Alan and his staff to thank for this. I had been considering buying an electric bike for a few months before I went to Hybrid Pedals in August 2015 to educate myself a bit more about the options out there. I had no intention of buying a bike that day, but when the team showed me a bike that was the perfect size and told me the discounted price they were offering it at because it was lightly used, I decided to go for it. The team applied the light set I bought for me and even threw in a used pannier bag for free. I love commuting to work on my electric bike - avoiding the metro and getting some exercise without arriving at work a sweaty mess, even with hills and/or heat. Unfortunately I was involved in my first bike accident in mid-October (at no fault of the bike). I was taken away in an ambulance and my bike was locked up by event security in the area. After many fruitless calls to the police to try to locate my bike after I got home from the hospital, I called Hybrid Pedals, intending to report that my bike had been stolen. It turns out that event security had seen the sticker and called Hybrid Pedals to try to locate the owner (me). Unfortunately, due to an issue with their computer system, they were not able to locate my contact information. Yet knowing the bike belonged to one of their customers they went out of to help, contacting the fire department to cut the lock, and transporting the bike to the shop. They kept the bike safe until I called. Because I am stuck at home recovering from surgery, Mary was even kind enough to deliver my newly repaired bike to my house. Just got our two electric pedal assist bikes today. We live in Michigan about 90 minutes from downtown Chicago. I am been shopping for about two years for these bikes. The bike shops here and in Chicago are staffed by bicycle purists who would never consider riding an electric bike but in Europe and on the West Coast they are becoming much more common. I was first exposed to my first pedal assist bike in England and then in Marin County, California. It is an amazing experience and depending on how much assist your want like none to a lot, it feels effortlessly. When I was in DC a couple a weeks ago, I decided to google and yelp bicycle stores in the area and I saw Hybrid Pedals in Arlington, Va. I decided to visit the store. I was pleasantly surprised to see a store that was basically just electric bikes with the bonus of experienced and knowledgeable staff who enjoyed talking about pedal assist bicycles. The owner, Alan, took care of my wife and I. He was so helpful and knew exactly what two 65 year olds needed. He got the recommended bikes for us, brought them outside and said go for a ride. Note: it is important to ride the bike before buying. I liked the fit and ride of my bike but my wife didn't. He got her a different bike to ride and she loved it immediately. We bought both bikes and had them shipped to our home in Michigan. Based on my experience with Alan and Hybrid Pedals, if I could give them 10 stars I would. While visiting my daughter over Christmas my husband and I stopped in to check out the bikes at Hybrid Pedals. We met the owner Alan and were pleasantly treated to his laid back, easy to deal with expertise. We initially tried out a couple of bikes and were taken over by the fun and ease of riding these things, as Alan kindly said "take them for a spin"! We ended up buying two different bikes that day, each with similar features but based on personal preference. We didn't really think through how we were going to get them home to California. That's when the customer service of this place truly kicked in. Alan was willing to work with us by sending the bikes we rode to CA or to ship them direct from the companies. We chose to have them shipped. Alan has checked in with us almost weekly to update us on delivery and to just see how we were liking our bikes. He is such a nice guy!! On a personal note, I have had two knee replacements and this bike is just what I needed to push myself to more activity. I can ride anywhere, and go for long distances excercising at my capacity while using pedal assist when needed. I'm having so much fun and can not wait until my husband gets his bike too which was on back order. I'm so glad we made this purchase and I'm really glad we just went for it while we in DC. Alan and David are fantastic, knowledgeable, helpful and that is only the beginning. I have chronic fatigue and wanted to be able to bicycle with my partner. I did a great deal of research and decided to visit Hybrid Petals. What a great decision, Alan and his staff listened to my needs and concerns and suggested an e-bike whivh I purchased. Unfortunately, within the first few months I had a number of falls as my balance has been affected, which I was initially unaware. I decided for my own safety I could not ride....unless, well maybe I could ride a recumbent. Again, I did my research and was able to find recumbent bikes but not electric ones. I called Allan to see if he had any ideas. Of course he did. If I bought a recumbent he knew just the person who could make it an e-recumbent. In addition, I could bring back the e-bike I initially purchased and he would put the money toward the work to be done done on the recumbent I could not ask for anything more. I purchased a recumbent and brought it to Hybrid Pedals. There I met with David who assured me he could do the job. He did such a wonderful job that it looks like it came directly from the factory. Unbelievable selection and customer service, Hybrid Pedals was only 1 of 3 dealers in the country that carried an Ebike that I rented in Ireland on vacation and absolutely loved. I had bought the same Ebike 8 years previously and it was a great Ebike, but with limited range. The new Ebike models are more powerful, more refined and have 3 times the riding range. I had many issues with my new Ebike unfortunately, however fortunately they were all resolved. Alan the owner of Hybrid Pedals made it clear from the first problem that he would make it good. I will not mention the bike company because I previously had a great experience, any bike company can have occasional issues and with Alan leading the charge, the bike company bent over backwards to make it right. I decided to keep the bike because I was recovering from a health issue and I wanted a lightweight, bike like bike with enough range to be able to ride with my bike friends. Riding on high power allowed me to ride with my friends and as the season progress I lowered the power to medium and then low power. I rode my ebike 1,200 miles from June - November and another 150 miles on my regular non electric bicycle towards the end of the season. What a God send to allow me to enjoy the outdoors, spend times with my friends and to get back in shape. read more

Just got my Pedego Boomarang. Before I went to the shop I called and talked with Alan for about 20 minutes. I had no idea about Electric bikes at all. Alan talked to me about what my needs where, even how tall I was because I thought I wanted and 28" bike, found out right away that it was not the size I needed. When going to the shop, will let you try as many bikes as you would be interested in, for as long as you need to check them out. I tried the one that I purchased a half a dozen times and on my last test drive I decided I wanted different handle bars, guess what? No problem. He truly wants you to be happy with your purchase, and concerned about your safety. Alan realizes that many people have never experienced this kind of purchase and will work with you until you are sure about what you want. You could purchase a bike on line and you could probably find and cheaper price but I don't suggest you do that because Alan and his shop will be there anytime you have a question or if you need service, you will not get that kind of piece of mind by ordering on-line. As he says, when you buy a bike from him, you become family. P. S. If you want to really test a bike you can rent one and get a good feel for them. - thought it might be useful to update my initial impression of Hybrid Pedals in Arlington after 15 months and two bikes later. I originally purchased an electric bike May 2015 and put over 4000 miles on it, losing about 10 pounds in the process. Since I bought the bike, the level of service and support has been excellent .I became an avid believer in the technology and wanted to see what further options were available. About six weeks ago, I purchased a new bike that provided additional performance and power . Once again, Alan and his staff were very helpful in showing me the various bikes and pointing out the attributes and differences of each brand and model. The shop stocks a large selection of different bikes. They were extremely patient in giving me enough time to test several bikes and select one which I felt met my needs. It may be rare to say about a business, but I feel that Hybrid Pedals truly cares about establishing long-term customer satisfaction, and not just making a quick sale. Consider an electric bike if you would like to get some good non-impact exercise, have loved biking in the past, but may need that little bit of help that an electric motor can provide. And by all means, definitely consider Hybrid Pedals and Alan Levine when you are looking to buy. read more

Finally made the big decision to get an electric bike. After doing some initial investigation, as well as a recommendation from a friend, I ended up at Hybrid Pedals in Arlington, Va. In the parlance of Las Vegas, I hit the jackpot. Alan, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. He showed me various bikes, some of which I took for a test ride. The bike I eventually chose had a problem holding a charge and I had to return it a few days later. Alan immediately let me pick out a loaner that I took with me. When I subsequently returned, Alan told me that there was a problem with the bike and, to compensate me for my trouble, he offered to exchange the bike for a model that had significant upgrades, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST, thus elevating the concept of customer service to new heights. So, if you want to buy an electric bike, and you have minimal information, hustle over to Hybrid Pedals where you will find many, many bikes from which to chose, as a well as knowledgeable owner who is determined to satisfy his customers. Angel the Hybrid Pedals bike mechanic may have saved my life, at least saved me for a serious injury... I dropped my bike off for a simple front and rear tires change. I do a lot of off road riding so my ebike was a little dirty. It has front and rear shocks and has given me a comfortable ride while I've owned it. I asked Angel, please give me a quick turn around as I try to ride everyday rain or shine. Here's how Angel lived up to his name. He didn't just throw on 2 tires and send me down the road, thankful, why, because while looking over my bike he found a stress crack in the frame under all the dirt that was on my bike. Seriously, he showed me the stress crack in the frame. Had Angel just thrown on the new front and rear tires someone else would be writing a zero star on Yelp about Hybrid Pedals saying "How could you send a bike out of your shop without looking it over" Why would it be someone else writing the Yelp review? Most likely, I would be in the Hospital with a serious injury. Thank you Angel for keeping a close eye out on this customer and living up to your name. Your the Best. read more

This is a niche shop in a niche market. I was looking for a specialized product: Evo Race by BH Bikes and there are not many local distributors of the product. Alan and Angel were very helpful and did not waste my time assessing e-bike options which would not fit with my enthusiast preferences. They had to order the bike and there were some bumps in road, but they have worked with me to resolve. There were two issues a chain one link too long which caused damage to the small chain ring and then a bad controller. BH also put on cheap tires which I replaced after getting a flat on the second day on the road. Nonetheless, Alan and Angel made the fixes under warranty (with the exception of the tires) and when the controller had to be ordered, provided me a very decent loaner. 6 weeks out from the original purchase, 600 miles on the Evo, plus another 150 on the loaner, they continue to answer my calls and provide helpful guidance as I make adjustments, tweak performance and learn to maximize a new vehicle for my 24 mile commute across VA, DC and Maryland. read more

Wonderful shopping experience! No pressure - just like Alan said: "the bikes sell themselves." Everyone on staff had all the answers to our numerous questions and we finally settled on the Pedego Stretch. My wife and I are in our Sixties. She never learned how to ride and I haven't ridden in 45 years. This gives us one bike two people can ride. She is so worried about breaking a bone at her age if she tries to learn at this late date. Have had it home a week and finally felt comfortable putting her on the back. It was easier than I expected. The power take-off makes it possible. Now when we are traveling the country, we can stop someplace and see the sights up close and personal without wearing our legs out. Angel did a great job getting our new bike ready to go out the door and I left fully knowledgeable about the care and feeding of the bike. (I don't think they can pay him enough). I wouldn't hesitate to go back for any future biking needs and fully intend to recommend them to anybody looking to buy (or service) a bike. read more

My wife and I went to Hybrid pedals to check out some electric bikes. We met Alan, the owner and were set up with all the different models we wanted to try. Alan is an interesting man and part of the buying experience! This isn't some big chain/big box store bike store. This is a local business worth checking out, and be careful you might leave with two bikes like we did! Alan made a great deal for the two and we were back in a couple days to buy the ones we liked best. Try one out and you will want one. I wanted one for a commuter to work. It is not a long ride that I can't do on a regular bike, but I sweat like a pig and do not have shower facilities available so often I would not pedal in. Now with power assist I can make it in sweat-free and then decide for the ride home if I want any power at all or how much power to have. I chose the Alva+ and can travel 20mpg by throttle alone or with power assisted pedaling I can go 25 mph (or more, I did not push it). read more

I bought my first electric scooter ever here, and I could not be more happy with my choice. Alan, who runs the place , made sure I had all the information I needed before deciding on my selection and making my purchase. He had me try a number of scooters and bikes, and answered my questions without putting any pressure on me to buy anything. I learned so much about electric scooters and bikes before buying my current model. The other employees here are really great as well - Dick showed me how to adjust my brakes and gave me a number of pointers for maximizing battery life, and was great all around. As for the scooter itself (IMAX made by Magnum Bikes), it is portable, has great battery life (15 miles at a very minimum, with lots of hills, probably around 20 miles on flat ground), and great maneuverability. It saved me hundreds of dollars on parking at work over the past couple of months and is so much fun to ride! read more

Alan and the staff at Hybrid Pedals have been incredibly wonderful and helpful throughout my time doing business with them for a year. I was nicely introduced to e-bikes at Hybrid Pedals and once every other month I rented for a day to experience the thrill of seamlessly biking around D.C. with ease and pure joy. Eventually I came around to purchasing my own e-bike after a year of renting and Alan was so kind enough in providing me an incredible deal that made it readily affordable. Alan and his amazing staff went out of their way to provide me information and guidance on every facet of the e-bike and when I got my e-bike stolen, Alan offered to kindly facilitate a replacement bike before I even gave him a check from my insurance! I picked Hybrid Pedals since they sell only ebikes instead of many bike shops which offer mostly just one brand or even just one model. Since I rode a Bionix ebike for more than two years and the battery was about to die I thought it's time for a new one. This time it should be a real ebike and not another converted old regular bike. After some research I was pretty sold on Hai- bikes and their Bosch Motor since I like Made in Germany (so am I). Alan listened to what I have in mind and directed me to two BH ebikes. I did a couple of test rides with different models and was pretty convinced that one of the BH's will be the one. He also had a Hai Bike but the performance was a bit disappointing, no comparison to the Evo 29er which I bought. Although the Hai Bike was about $1500 more than the Evo Alan steered me to the right alternatives which were all a better fit for less money. Pretty awesome. read more

I bought an ebike online without doing much research into ebikes. I wanted a commuting bike that would get me to work as un-sweatily as possible, but that I could turn off or down on my way home to get a workout in. My bike is a great bike, but I got into an accident in the first two weeks and damaged the wiring and display screen. I quickly found out that one of the perils of buying an ebike online is that there isn't necessarily a dedicated store to fix that brand of bike in my area. After calling three different local bike shops - all who told me they couldn't fix my Juiced bike from California - I found Hybrid Pedals. Alan and his team contacted Juiced to get the necessary parts, and lent me a rental bike while mine was being fixed. They answered all of my questions about ebikes in the meantime.
