My work-issued Mac laptop came down with a sudden case of the Black Screen of Death. I live nearby, so I popped into the shop to see what could be done. Nasr runs a tiny, one-man shop that seems to be based on a singular principle: offering the customer the best service possible. And his best service to me? Telling me that the repair I needed is free if I take it to an Apple store. He explained to me exactly the needed repair, what to tell the Apple shop when I go so as to expedite the fix, and sternly warned me that under no circumstance should I allow anyone except Apple store technicians to open the machine, otherwise it would void the free coverage. I would've paid big bucks for that honesty alone. But Nasr went even further. I told him I didn't care about the machine, I just needed the files sitting on the desktop. I asked if he could pull them for me. He took a look and told me I could pull them myself using whatever I had at home that could serve as an external monitor. He walked me through the equipment, confirmed I had the appropriate cords, explained the process, and said if I couldn't make it work, to just come back and he'd handle it. He didn't have to do any of that. I would've paid whatever he asked to just get those files, I was so desperate. But he gave me a solution that 100% worked (I have my files!) and didn't charge me a dime. Please take your electronic conundrums to this man. We need to keep him and his shop in Hyde Park. I have an old machine that I don't even use that I'm going to take to him for repair just so I can contribute to his revenue. read more

Mr. Nasr has the best customer service that I have had in a very long time. He checked my laptop and evaluated the problem over the weekend. It wasn't good. It would be cheaper to go buy a new one. What I really wanted were my files which I thought I couldn't get because the computer wouldn't come on. He assured me that if I bought a new one he would transfer my files. I did buy a new laptop. Small and efficient. I needed my laptop looked at as I was having some glitchy issues with it. This place is really small inside but the guy working there (assumed he's a one-man-show) was very succinct in explaining his process and clear about how much it would be. He explained worst case scenario, one possibility and one easy solution. I dropped it off at 4pm and he called me the next morning by 11am. It turned to be the cheapest of the 3 scenarios he gave me and charged me what he said he was going to. My laptop runs like new now for $100! I looked at a new one and it's $2300. NAS IS MY HERO!! After a week and a half of a stressful technical external hard drive situation, Nas was able to take all that stress away. The USB connector on my external hard drive broke. I took it to one computer tech who tried to solder the metal back together. After a few days that person called me and said they did all they could do. I don't think they knew what they were doing. So I immediately went home and called company after company. One person tried shafting me. Then I found a place on the Northside. I hate the Northside! Although they slightly helped me, I was still having a problem with an adapter to detect my hard drive. The crazy thing is I glanced at Nas' establishment on Yelp and had a feeling I should have called him while I was on the Northside waiting for the owner to open his store. Now here's where Nas comes in. Frustrated, tired and on my last bit of hope I called Nas and spoke to him about my situation. He heard me out very patiently. He advised that I come in so he can take a look at it. He also told me that if he can't fix the problem it would be free. I felt confident that Nas could handle the job so I jumped in my car and headed to Hyde Park despite being exhausted. I arrived to his shop and once he serviced me he was so helpful, patient and knowledgeable. He told me that he'd have some kind of results by Saturday but he called me on Friday and told me the good news. He was able to retrieve my files with no problem. OMG I was sooooo grateful and happy. I needed to speed up my computer in order to continue my graphic arts business and education. I thought I needed some additional RAM, but after talking to Nas, he convinced me to get a SSD installed instead of the RAM. He replaced the hard drive and fixed my laptop's keyboard housing. He gave me a great price in comparison to other companies. The work was done well and quickly. My computer now is a model of efficiency. I would gladly return to Nas at the Hyde Park Computer Center. The only qualms I have are the hours (4-7pm) being rather constrained and there was a problem in shipping a part I needed for the repair was delayed by the shipper. My only disatifaction was that I wish Nas had informed me of the delay. Other than that, like I said before, I'd happily return to HPCC for any repairs and would recommend them to anyone. read more

SAVED ME AT LEAST A HUNDRED DOLLARS AND DAYS OF WAITING ON MY LAPTOP! Before I stopped at Hyde Park Computer Center, I went to a place on 55th that I USED TO go to for my computer repairs. For some reason, on this day, I was not willing to pay the exorbitant diagnostic fee. Next, I went to another computer store in Hyde Park, I didn't even get to the point of asking whether there was a fee at this location, because he said he couldn't get my laptop back to me for FOUR DAYS! So, I strolled over to HPCC, not too hopeful at this point, but Nasr was GREAT! When I explained that my computer was running slow, the other two places assumed I had a virus, and started quoting me prices on removing it. Nasr's first question was, "Is it running hot?", which it was, and he immediately recognized that I may have a clogged fan, which he says is often the case with the brand of laptop I have. Why didn't the other guys know this? And HE DIDN'T CHARGE ME A DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR THAT INFORMATION. He told me he'd need to take it apart and clean it and that should help. Not only did I not have to wait days for my computer, he finished it THAT DAY. Just from the cleaning, the computer was much faster and was no longer running hot. I was also having a problem with my iTunes not opening. When I returned that day to pick up the laptop, he said that problem would take longer to solve and gave me the option to either leave it overnight or bring it back the next day. I chose the latter. In that short time, he cleared tons of malware, got my iTunes to work (it hadn't in almost a year), took apart and cleaned my entire frame--keyboard, fans, etc (which was permeated with cat hair from my two lovelies), got my computer to stop over-heating (I had actually been using an external laptop fan, and even with that it got too hot and shut off if I used it too long--now I don't have to use the external fan at all), and sped up my old computer SIGNIFICANTLY. And even with all the extra work he had to do to figure out why my iTunes wasn't working, he still charged me the price he originally quoted me before he realized it would be so much work! This guy was great. My sister's laptop screen wouldn't come on. He fixed it at a very very reasonable price. He first thought it was a broken cable and ordered the part, but then he found that the cable was fine and was able to fix it without putting in a new cable. Honest, capable and reasonably priced!! I have been going to Nasr for the last 4 - 5 years and over that time he has repaired about 4 of our computers (we are a family of 5). As with the other reviews, TOP LEVEL SERVICE at a steal in terms of pricing! But what really blew me away was his ability to furnish me with two used computers (i5/14"/8GB, i7/17"/16GB) with a few bells and whistles. I only needed one computer (stolen from our car on Jan 5 with our passports!) but the deals were SO GOOD that I had to buy two! In the end the price I paid was less than what I would have paid for ONE brand new i5 computer and I have more features. I was building a computer and ran into a problem where the motherboard was not detecting any monitor plugged into it. I dropped off the computer and was able to pick it up after two days and was told that I needed a new motherboard or a dedicated graphics card. A problem I could have never solved on my own was solved promptly and efficiently. I applaud the guy who works here for being upfront and friendly. Everything I could've wanted in great customer service. And he didn't charge me! I wish I could've left a tip, but the least I could do was write this review. Nasr is awesome and was able to repair my laptop. I have an old MacBook Pro, maybe 10 years old. I needed a new hard drive and a new track pad. For the track pad Apple wanted to charge me over $100 and they wouldn't fix my hard drive. Actually, they said it couldn't be fixed. Well, Nasr proved them wrong and fixed both and charged me less than $130. I have a completely new laptop, that works as if I just purchased a new one. He said I can get a little more life out of this laptop and I plan to do just that. I'm going back because he thinks he can pull some of my information from the old hard drive. Which is amazing if he can. I'm just happy he got my laptop working and I don't have to purchase a new one just yet! I took my computer to " the other place" (shall remain nameless) I was charged $40 diagnostic and then the tech told me my comp had several virus and he needed to remove all of my hardware and give me a whole new system. For a whopping $170!! You gotta be f'n kidding me! So I took it here and was informed I have no virus's my comp needed serious updating and a tune up. Great service! This is the second time I went here. The first time my computer keyboard died out of the blue. Although the guy here could have fixed it for me, he double checked and saw that my laptop was still under warranty so he suggested that I send it back to the factory, which I did, and saved me a ton of money. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and didn't charge me anything for a diagnostic. The second time my computer was making a horrendous noise from a malfunctioning fan. Since I had such a great experience the first time I went back to this place. By this point I already ran out of the warranty and as a student I was worried about the cost of fixing it. He diagnosed the problem and replaced the fan for just $100. This is way way way less than what I would have paid at other places. He was also very communicative. I would give 10 stars if that was possible! Fantastic service! My Mac laptop crashed and I could not get it to load. With my next online class starting soon I needed help fast. I went to a large electronics store and their Repair people told me that it was a failed logic board. It would take $800-$1000 to repair, not worth spending on a computer that was already a few years old according to them. They suggested I buy a new computer for $2000 and they would transfer the files from my old computer for an additional fee $200. Not able to afford either of these options I hit the internet to find computer repair stores and found Hyde Park Computer Center. We talked on the phone and Nasr told me he felt I had possibly attempted to upload the new operating system incorrectly. That he could install the new operating system and reinstall my Files for under $200!!He did not think I was having a hardware failure but he would know more when I brought the computer to his store. I brought the computer in and he immediately looked at it. Said I did not have a hardware problem. And he would do the work he quoted me for the very affordable price we had already discussed. We also talked about some upgrades to my system. The latest hard drive. And more ram. My computer was ready the next day. New hard drive installed. New/more ram installed. Operating system installed. My files retrieved and installed. And updated to office 2019. For way less than the major electronics store had offered to do the logic board replacement for. I am over the moon with the work he did and the upgrades he did. My computer is working better than ever! And I think this semester is going to be great with this improvement to my laptop! this store is my go to place from now on for any computer related issues!
