DO NOT take your computer to this store. You will come out with a $100 charge and a computer that is more broken than before. The employees are very difficult to understand and also have a hard time understanding customers. After charging me to diagnose my laptop's problem, they ordered a part. One week later the part arrived and I dropped of my computer to have it installed - they charged me again on the spot, and said more would be due when I picked it up. At the end of the day I still hadn't heard from them, so just went in. They had not installed the new part and the repairman said he "was not confident" to do so because my laptop was "complicated." He said it should still work fine, though, despite not replacing it, and charged me for the part and installation. Then when I got my computer home, the sound wasn't working. I took it back in and complained about the sound and the fan charge. They keep the computer for two days and then left a message saying the had finally replaced the part they couldn't replace before, and they also needed a new part for the sound issue, which they would pay for. After six days, they called and said the part was incorrect and that it would be an additional five days to get the right one. They said it is hard to find the parts on eBay. I asked if they had tried my laptop company directly, and they said no, they had not. Nightmare. Definitely go elsewhere if you can. read more

Jason is fantastic! I have been going to his Windy City Computer shop for about 3 years. The service is prompt and very very efficient. Jason will do a diagnostic right on the spot and give you a general idea of what is going on with your computer. He can rebuild a computer!!! He charges are very very reasonable. I have referred many friends and family members to Windy City Computer and they all have been very satisfied. As I have waited for my PC following repair, customers have always been inside giving Jason accolades on a job well done. He even has a PC set up where anyone can pay buck to go on-line and retrieve email. I do not recommend this establishment. My computer was diagnosed and I was told it had some awful virus and in order to clean the computer the tech needed to delete everything on it:windows, microsoft, word docs, pics, everything. The only thing I'd be left with was itunes. Aaannndd he wanted to charge me $170 to do it. I took my computer a few blocks over and was told there is no virus, none of your programs need deleting I just needed some major updating. All of this was under $100. Also I took an ex bf comp here a few yrs ago after having several problems with it only for the tech to tell me the couldn't find not one problem. Never taking my computer here again. read more

CCC is one of those businesses to watch. It has a huge opportunity to take computing and technology to another level and within the Chicago community. In general having come from an IT background I was able to learn and get information from staff at various locations. It was a partnership actually that helped put some aspects of computing and technology in perspective the way school might not. After many years of doing business with the company and not just any specific location, I can't say much wrong although my gripes involve problem emails with links that don't work albeit as you would expect and ad to that exciting coupons and service evals that I can't seem to find or use. Its an issue that went under the rug for some time. Believe me its like being in a haze as far as why this and that didn't come through or some phone number didn't go through. Also emails to tech support can go unanswered. Formal calls to tech support though usually dealt with well sometimes don't get answered. Leaving a message may also go unanswered. The used computer option is great for a number of reasons. I can't say the computers I have gotten in the past have been bad at all or sub-par but it takes some good careful research to really get what you need and thus reap some basically good savings. Without the research and knowing about PC/ laptop etc. features and limitations you can end up in a unsatisfying quandary and that has happened to me. You may think you got something ideal when you actually need something else with greater or less this or that. My advice is communication, communication and then some. In the past I have purchased some faulty smaller items though and lost the receipt or ran into problems getting a refund. Stuff like flash drives, universal card adapters even a computer speaker system with one speaker not even working. It would take some years before I realized the speaker wasn't working.The rest being other speaker and the sub-woofer worked fine. Solidly folks, enough happened with those purchased "unused" items to say that the business has this old feeling of being somehow Korean unknown off brands or fast and faulty quality to it. Working with CCC involves give and take or compromise and usually when I go to the business the staff are small young Asian males most. To me its just grown on me and its lay-away options have come in handy too. Its the type of stuff Best Buy doesn't offer albeit much. Savings, incite, layaway plans, onsite computer for color printing, fax and surfing, direct testing of various items and consultation, used and refurbished items and a rather broad range of technology based items with tech support, computer service and monitoring- carves this company a solid niche with other similar companies going unknown almost entirely by comparison or just obscure. The in store technicians are no dummies and I would bet if they gave wrong info on something, greater detail of the problem may have been lacking. If you know how to explain and hone in on a problem that you don't know much about the "in store" staff can seize the issue. Communication in detail determines accuracy of the diagnosis. Incites have been skillful on all sorts of stuff from monitor resolution, speakers, brands, to even DJ controller boards, what's needed for this and that. Stuff a Best Buy worker wouldn't quite extend over too much time arguably and some other retailer may not have in stock or even knowledge of. In the end its about what CCC could become and what it actually is too that excites me. It brings the vast world of technology to the people with help and staff that have something to suggest and incites on brands etc. and somehow it works, mishaps and all.
