Don't listen to all of these reviews if you want a real honest side of it here you go: I'm a 6th grader currently, and I just honestly want to go. The counselor doesn't even care, my 8th grade brother got 3 detentions for 3 days straight just for being tardy to class 5 times, and my mother told the vice principal that he shouldn't even have those. he doesn't do drugs nor vaping, my mom kept straightening him up and as she walked out he said "Just an FYI we control the street lights, so the children could be late, in the morning". My mother told counselor but all she said was "That's just the rules, I'm sorry sweetheart" like they were playing dirty (which they were). After all that they changed his 3 detentions to 2 detentions. And on top of that the teachers practically, only support the "pretty" girls or the "pick me" girls. And most of the teachers support either white kids or Hispanic kids. And this has right in front of my own eyes. The art teacher smelt something funny, and started coughing. While my black friend was just laughing with her other friend, she doesn't vape nor do drugs. The art teacher gave her the dirty look and called over assistance for a staff member to drop off my friend to the principal's office. The art teacher KNOWS that my friend doesn't vape, she pays attention in class (or else why is she so GOOD at art?) so instead of finding out who it is, she chooses my friend, who is black. And if the skinny girls wear booty shorts or a top that is the size of a bra, they don't get dress coded however if a girl with larger thighs wears perfectly fine shorts: detention! And the really disgusting thing that bugs me is the predo staff supports or gives high fives to the Latin/Spanish/Mexican girls and one time I was wearing shorts the teacher's assistant standed right there behind me the whole class period (1 hour) and he kept hyping me up, saying things like "You got this!" or "Good job!". Please do NOT let your child come to this school, and with all that the school juices kids for money: yearbooks are $50-$60, a super small bag of chips $2, etc. And they also violate the CCSD rules. On their afternoon videos it says "if you buy our $20 beanie, you get it inside!" which is crazy. And to pay to see your child preform on the stage (for the Shrek play) you have to pay money?! Also, the school is not great with bullying, water (the water comes out with dirt), the rooms are going mold (the art teacher got sick, from the mold), the bathrooms are not in good condition, and the A/C doesn't work.*In gym, if you look up there is TONS of visible black mold.(Also if you want to join the cheer team you have to pay a fine for $500, art $25, choir $10-$15.) One of my family members had their holiday band concert at Hyde Park Middle School. Hyde Park Middle School is located off the 95/Decatur exit. There is a variety of parking spots available at the middle school. For the holiday band concert, it was held in the gymnasium. There were seats situated throughout the gymnasium to watch the concert. It was really well organized from the beginning, intermediate, and different levels for each group. While you were waiting, you could sit in the lunchroom. Overall, we had a great time at the holiday band concert at Hyde Park Middle School! Parent of a student here at this school my son is in 7th grade magnet ,they treat the kids with disrespect here.. Paula Newman and Loretta in the office are extremely rude and unprofessional. They will not help you they have crappy attitudes and just overall need to be removed from this school. Nevada already sucks as it is when comes to these student here. If you hate your job use your hours go home or change your profession, I will be so happy when my son finishes this terrible school. Wish I could give zero stars. And just to add 6th grade here as a parent was terrible as well. read more

I am an 8th grader at Hyde Park, and I am writing this to save your children. For me, this school has been a horrifying experience, not just because of rumors, but because of things I have heard with proof and seen with my own two eyes. It is sickening to watch this administration fire teachers for "not teaching" while they protect someone who actively affects the safety of the students. Specifically, I am talking about Mr. Wolff. He is a history teacher who has been insanely sexist and has touched multiple girls. One of my friends was a victim of this; he put a finger down her shirt and touched her in an area he should never be touching. I've seen his behavior myself, too. I was once sitting near a girl with a larger chest, I am very flat and was wearing something almost identical to her, and in front of the entire class, he looked down at her chest and told her, "Zip up your jacket, it's distracting." She was following the dress code perfectly. She can't control her body, and he shouldn't even be looking there. He even makes sexist jokes about women only being able to clean, and he knows they are bad because he'll say, "It's a pretty bad joke, you sure I can say it?" before he says it. He has been reported for as long as he's worked here, yet he hasn't been fired or even investigated. What makes this even more offensive is that while a reported predator stays in the classroom, Hyde Park is busy firing amazing teachers who actually respect us. They fired Mr. Dzunu for "not teaching" just because he didn't give out tests, even though he was an incredible sub for my science class. Even as an English major, he made sure we did our work and, unlike Mr. Wolff, he respected every single student regardless of their gender, and was still attempting to teach us. There is a long list of great teachers who actually made us feel safe and supported: Coach Ramos, Mrs. Simon, Ms. Manning, Ms. Souza, Ms. Reed, Mr. and Ms. Wetjen, Ms. O'Brien, Ms. Brown, Mr. Phillips, Ms. Terelli, Ms. Villar, Mr. Dickison, Ms.Fraggy, Ms.Bernall, Mr.Ed and Ms. Vanegas A couple more teacher who thankfully already left. Including this, they only apply the dress code to specific people. If you have thicker thighs and wear shorts? Oh yeah, immediately dress-coded. But it's the exact opposite for skinner girls, if they wear shorts, it's always, 'OH YEAH! YOU'RE FINE!' It's a total double standard based on your body. Teachers have favorites, school only practically cares about good grades, broken A/C, bathrooms consistently broken, list can go on. Whatever you do please do not bring your children here 3 years of straight horror. My only question for this administration is how can you say you want students safe when you allow someone harming your students to continue working there? So parents, please think twice about enrolling your children here. read more

This place sells that they are the one of the best schools in the valley. They are just the definition of gentrification. They boost their test scores as much as possible to lure smart kids in to keep their scores high for funding. While your children deal with broke a/c, cockroaches, and the same demotivated teachers that can be found across the valley. This school is TERRIBLE. Do NOT send your kids here at ALL COSTS. Heard one of the teachers is a p3do. Went through 3 years guarantee your child won't be happy here. Curriculum is god awful. One of the teachers barely teach and assign your child 4 page long worksheets every week and makes them write a paragraph for 10 mins every day. Can tell you firsthand this school is the worst out of every school to exist. Would send my kids to ANY other school except for this one. Please don't even CONSIDER this school. Kids came home with bruises. 60 years of "excellence" and yet couldn't keep a school clean or their students safe. Kids go home crying as well. If you believe in ghosts or whatever you'd love to know I heard this school was built on a graveyard. Fights occur so often it's not even a joke. Marijuana and vaping in the bathrooms you can smell it. Tons of bad kids too. Lots of stuff them kids doing in the bathrooms. Staff is not easy to work with and VERY impolite. I attended this school for three years and it as truly an amazing experience. I would completely recommend this school due to the high academics and amazing teachers and staff, it was really enjoyable all three years at the magnet program and the school set me up for lots of exciting opportunities in the future. read more

My daughter went here 3 years and moved on to NWCTA (run very differently) I firmly believe her time at this school has opened the doors to her just being accepted to literally every college she applied to!! She has been accepted to her favorites Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo and UC Davis ( best vet school in US and second in the world) I cannot express how amazing this magnet is run!! ( can't say that for NWCTA- the principle there has been removed-she was horrible) if your child has opportunity to go to Hyde Park DO IT!! read more

When I went to Hyde Park, it was absolutely the worst I was being bullied by my math teacher, Miss Michelle, Dorson. A lot of people didn't like her because she was bullying kids with disabilities. I have personally seen it myself, and I've heard all the stuff she said about me, saying how I act dramatic, and that me being half blind, wasn't a big deal, a lot of my friends and teachers did tell me she was talking about me. when I went to class I would cry because I was only a kid and hearing so many mean stuff from a teacher and I've been bullied so much out of my life, and I've never heard any teacher disrespect me the way she did. the assistant principles did nothing to help me they got mad at me every time I went up to the office to complain about being bullied by some girls that where my friends or even by my math teacher since I don't go to the school, no more it's good to share my truth about the school. The only one who try to help me life is Nicole Bates to this day I still give her updates about my life because she deserves to know how successful I'm doing and not everybody else that treated me with disrespect and told me that I wasn't going anywhere in life because of my age. I was older than most of the kids at school and that's more of the reasons why I felt more judge being there. I'm 16 now I'm about to be 17 in August and I'm working on my book to tell my story not just about the school but what it was like to be born with a disability and people around you judging you for it. I'm already working on the cover for my book and I'm very excited for it to come out eventually. Hyde Park is the best middle School in Nevada. The curriculum is very challenging, but worth it because it pushes you from your comfort zone. This is the only Middle School in the entire world that has a specialized Pre-AP program that I am in. This school maybe old and beat down (mostly because of the neighborhood kids), but it's a great school. You won't regret it....trust me! To be honest, this school should be a full on Academy and not have Neighborhood kids. read more

I'm rating this school a one star because it is. I'm doing this anonymously because I know if I tell you who I am and the school reads this they will call me up to their office and call me disrespectful even though everything I'm saying is true.. All the staff besides the teachers are horrible. During lunch the staff blows this whistle and it's very loud, especially because the cafeteria is way too small. The receptionist and other people located in the front office are very disrespectful, they may seem nice when you first meet them but it's all an act. One time the receptionist kicked me out because I was being "disrespectful" even though I just didn't hear what she said and told her "I didn't hear you.". My bike got stolen and i couldn't walk because it was over 100 fahrenheit outside and it's a very long walk. When my mom went back the next morning to ask about it she lied and said she didn't kick me out when I vividly remember her saying "get outside" and pointing out the door looking me directly in my eyes. There's also this obese teacher who needs to get around on a scooter because she's too big to walk and ironically her room always smells like food, she has a microwave and a mini fridge in there. The receptionist also told me that she wouldn't give me my moms number again all because another staff member told her i was being disrespectful even though all that happened was i was being lectured to remember my moms number and i said " My mom got a new number" then she said "you just don't care to remember." I've also seen a woman yell at an autistic kid and say "You don't belong here and you need to find a new school!" I felt disgusted when I heard that woman yell at him like that, it made me feel icky. She got in his face and pointed. My next subject is the bathrooms. It's absolutely horrible, a few days ago I went in there and there was a spider with a bunch of cobwebs. The mirrors look like they have not been changed in five years. I know most bathrooms aren't supposed to smell "good" but the smell is horrible, everytime i go in there I want to throw up. Their bathrooms are also pretty ugly. This subject is about the cafeteria. It is very dirty. The first day I arrived there were ants on the floor and pieces of food on the floor, you'd at least expect it to be somewhat clean. Their girl bathrooms are very tiny, talking about only 3 stalls. It's very small considering they shove a bunch of kids from every grade in there and there's barely enough spots for everyone to sit. The food they serve is not bad but not good. It makes me sick and I have no allergies, I'm not lactose, I'm not vegan or any of that. That brings me to hygiene. There's dust everywhere and bugs. The lockers throughout the hallways are disgusting, full of dust, trash, and cobwebs and I know hasn't been cleaned in years. The hallways have cobwebs, dirt and trash. I've already gotten sick at this school probably from all the dust. If there's "alot" of rain the classrooms WILL flood. Now let's talk about how the school punishes kids, they basically don't. Recently a kid was making knives out of pens, threatened to stab people, and said his brother is gonna be stabbing people with a dagger. Guess what the punishment was? Nothing. He came back the very next day like nothing happened and nobody cared. The very next day he started hurting people with rubber bands, nothing harsh. He also started disrespecting a very kind teacher. What I'm trying to say is that the school doesn't know how to punish. I am a student with a 504 plan. A 504 plan is to give kids extra help when they have something wrong with them like depression, dyslexia, BPD, anxiety, ADHD, and stuff like that. They have done NOTHING to help me and all they gave me was a counselor's pass which one of my teachers said no to when I asked to use it. If you have something like that wrong with you, you shouldn't even tell them because it's not like they care or want to help. Do you want to know what they blame all this on? The fact that it's old school. I understand that but that doesn't mean it's not YOUR fault that you guys don't change anything or clean well. This school was made in 1958 and it's weird that in sixty-five years you didn't change anything. An old school is not an excuse for being lazy and unhygienic. The middle school I was at was called Tarkainian and it was very hygienic, on task, and it punished me for the things I should be punished for. I recommend that school so much more than this disgusting thing disguised as a school. Here is my conclusion, I do not recommend this school at all and you hopefully understand why. I've posted a review here before earlier in the school year, but it is now almost April and my opinion has changed. This place is great if you want a great education, but the "experience" here is absolute trash. There is mold on the roof of the cafeteria, more than 50% of the time the air conditioning doesn't work in the classroom, the locker room smells like... I don't have the vocabulary to express how awful the locker room is. The art teacher Mrs. Piazzi has a very thick accent and it is incredibly hard to decipher what she is saying. The restroom mirrors (if that restroom even has mirrors) are so scratched it might as well be a slab of wood on the wall. Maybe I'm asking too much for a 50 year old school, but at least fix the air conditioning! I'm dreading being in the classrooms in May because it's going to be so miserably hot. There are also drugs and inappropriate behaviors going on here but that's really at any school. Anyway, onto the good. Mrs. Reed is a great English teacher and you'll be lucky if you get her. Mr. Philips is an amazing math teacher and you'll be more than lucky if you get him. I've learned a lot here. Pro tip: don't even think about bringing a hat here. In some schools, including the ones I went to before I went here, you can wear hats on campus as long as it's outside, but here, I got my hat confiscated even though I was wearing it outside. When I tried to defend myself saying I didn't know the rules (which I didn't) the dude said I was lying and I should be ashamed. Idk man. read more

This is a good school for STEM kids. This is not a review for zoned program. Not a great location, run-down facilities but it's not the school's fault. CCSD should spend their $$ here to renovate this place. It's long overdue. Pros: -amazing, hardworking, motivated, talented kids coming from good families of intellectuals. Of course not all of magnet kids are that fabulous but many of them are. A very few are child geniuses. If your kids are #1 in their elementary schools, be prepared that they are no longer that "Star" here. -some amazing teachers (Mrs. Krauss, Mr. Tyler...) and magnet coordinator (Mrs. Waggoner). I love it when Waggoner constantly asked parents not to send their kids here as this school is not for everyone. Be prepared to work hard. - tons of opportunities to participate in STEM-related competitions at state, national, even international level, great EC activities. -Zero bullies at Magnet level (only from my kids' experience). They don't have time for that nonsense. -Easily 1-2 years ahead in curriculum compared to any above average kids in the valley - I really like that they group kids by test scores. Kids will be removed from top classes after a semester or usually a year if they are underperforming Cons: - Facility is filthy -Kids can be overloaded. Long day for many. Again this Magnet program is not for everyone. -Some magnet kids can be arrogant toward zoned or others. -there are bad teachers who don't teach even at the top level classes. The best experience a parent could ask for. Mrs. Waggoner (magnet dean) is a true gem in this county. I am so grateful my child was educated in this silly old building. The kids are great and mine felt safe and truly happy here. Don't let the no-frills fool you. This was a stellar education for my daughter. read more
