I've been here twice and each experience was great! I love Indian food but am not familiar with all the types. My friend swore she didn't like Indian food, but I convinced her to give it a shot. Let's just say she didn't resist when I suggested it for lunch again a few weeks later. We entered the bldg and the decor was cute...instagram-ish. We looked over the menu, which can be intimidating if you're not familiar with the cuisine. The waitress explained the menu and flavors for the items we inquired about so don't be intimidated or afraid to ask. The first visit, I got the chicken lollipops, which were really good. My friend ordered the Chicken Vijayawada (VJW) Biriyani. This was so good. I ordered the Tikka Masala and it was delicious as well! You can request mild, medium, and hot. I opted for the hot, which had some heat, but good nonetheless! The garlic naan was soooo good, too. Be sure to add an order to whatever you get; it pairs perfectly with whatever you order. For the second visit, the chicken VJW was on the line up again, the Monagadi Biriyani, chili chicken lollipops, and garlic naan of course. We liked the regular chicken lollipops better, but the chili ones were still good. Both Biriyanis were flavorful and the portions are massive. Definitely big enough for two people to eat off of for a meal. They have plenty of other traditional and some other unique offerings with a large variety of meat and veggie options. I love this place. I've eaten here several times now, and ordered takeout as well, and the food is always delicious! They have many different styles of Indian food, including curries, tandoori, and biryani. They also have Indo-Chinese options. After trying this restaurant earlier in the week, I knew I had to bring my son back to experience the delicious food for himself. The decor is fun, colorful, and delightfully eclectic. I especially loved the cherry blossom tree in the middle of the restaurant, complete with a mock phone booth. It gives the space a unique charm. We received excellent service from Samaja. She helped me choose a curry based on my love for rich, creamy dishes. I took her recommendation and ordered the Nawabi Masala, a hearty curry prepared with cashews and a rich gravy. I requested a mild to medium spice level and added chicken. My son ordered the Nellore Fish Curry, a spicy coastal dish made with fresh fish in the traditional Nellore style, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Apparently my definition of "mild to medium" and the kitchen's definition were a little different. My son was perfectly happy with his spice level, while I was over there trying to convince everyone I was handling mine just fine. Samaja and another gentleman both came over to check on me. I don't know if there was steam rising from my head or what! Even though it was spicier than I had hoped, it was absolutely delicious. Samaja kindly brought me a creamy yogurt mixture to help tame the heat, and it made a huge difference. She also surprised us with a small serving of a sweet, lemon flavored pudding that she said would help cool my palate, along with a chilled bottle of water. I've been to Hyderabad House a few times, but my favorite visits are their special buffet days, typically on holidays. Theres not much service during these but staff is still there to help you out. This is possibly the best Indian buffet. There are so many different options and each time is a lot different. I often times end up seeing something I've never tried before. It's usually a mixture of starters, soups, curries, rice dishes and sometimes a live samosa chaat. It's usually fairly busy but worth the wait and it's great to hear the music paired with cricket on the TVs for a lively atmosphere. The buffet food is alway top notch. My typical favorites are the onion pakora, nawabi curry and the OG chicken biryani. I have made it a tradition to go here every time there's a holiday because it's so good! read more

My wife and I recently had the opportunity to dine at Hyderabad House Indian Cuisine in Hoover after being invited by the owner to experience a curated selection of their most popular dishes. We left incredibly impressed--not only by the quality of the food, but also by the warm hospitality from the entire staff. The meal began with Vegetable Samosas, which were golden, flaky, and filled with a perfectly seasoned potato mixture. Next came the Manchow Soup, a comforting, flavorful soup topped with crispy noodles that had just the right amount of spice. One of the biggest highlights of the evening was the Chicken Lollipops. They were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned beautifully. These disappeared from the table almost immediately and were one of our favorite dishes of the night. We then enjoyed the Andhra Chicken Curry with fresh Garlic Naan. The curry was rich, aromatic, and layered with spice without overwhelming the palate. The naan was soft, buttery, and perfect for soaking up every bit of the sauce. This was another standout dish that I would order again without hesitation. The Vijayawada Special Chicken Biryani was exactly what great biryani should be--fragrant long-grain rice, tender chicken, and bold spices that came together in every bite. It was served with traditional accompaniments that balanced the flavors perfectly. For dessert, we sampled both the Apricot Delight and Gulab Jamun. The Apricot Delight was easily one of the best desserts of the evening, offering a creamy, fruity finish that wasn't overly sweet. The Gulab Jamun was warm, soft, and soaked in fragrant syrup--a classic done well. To finish, we enjoyed a Mango Lassi, and it was honestly one of the best I've had. It was smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered two bottles to take home before we left. Every dish showcased authentic flavors, generous portions, and careful preparation. While everything we tried was excellent, our personal favorites were the Chicken Lollipops, Andhra Chicken Curry with Garlic Naan, Vijayawada Special Chicken Biryani, Apricot Delight, and of course the Mango Lassi. This is my 2nd time coming here. The 1st time was for a Yelp event but the food was so good I had to come back. Restaurant is clean and has some beautiful decor. I had dinner here with a group of friends, about eight of us, and had no wait time and fairly quick service. While we waited we looked around, a somewhat fun/odd juxtaposition of a pink tree and white phone booth with American and British cartoons on the two TVs I could see. The food was almost entirely excellent, we ordered different curry sauces and mostly white rice, and all but the butter curry were excellent, with some nice spice and a lot of flavor. The butter curry was liked by a few of us, myself I thought it lacked flavor and spice. The chicken curry was my favorite. I also prefer Manchurian Rice which was supposed to be high on the spice Meyer but only had a slightly spicy kick. I still enjoyed it more than the white rice. Eating the dishes tapas style was a lot of fun, mixing six or seven curries on white rice, spicy rice, noodles and nan bread ordered for an appetizer, it was quite pleasant, even though I quickly lost track of which curry was which. So many of them were so flavorful that I just enjoyed the ride. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, and the dishes, starting with appetizers, came out fairly quickly, well cooked and ample portions. One of us got a beryani dish, it was so big and intimidating that I didn't tackle it but the presentation was fun. A whole poached egg was delivered with it, I kind of think it could have been quartered and perhaps spiced up a bit - imagine deviled egg curry style! (Hint hint Hyderabad). I'm not really sure why this place gets such rave reviews. I love biryani and had been wanting to try this place for a while. I finally ordered takeout for lunch. First of all, for lunch for myself and my two children, the order ran over $100. Not a huge deal as Indian food portion sizes are typically large and we have leftovers, but the food wasn't good enough to eat the leftovers, so it was a pretty big waste. The biryani was not flavorful at all. It just tasted like bland rice with chicken in it. We ordered the chicken lollipops since they seem to be highly recommended, but they were so hard and dry that my 9 year old struggled to eat them and they wouldn't have withstood reheating. My older kid seemed to like the tandoori chicken. We ordered a "bread bowl" that came with multiple types of naan, but they were all wrapped together so they all tasted like garlic. Their raita is truly terrible. My son liked their mango lassi, but said it wasn't as good as other places. I can't speak to the service or ambiance since we got food to go, but based on other reviews it seems I didn't miss much in that department. I probably wouldn't return given the experience. This was our first visit to Hyderabad House, for a birthday dinner. We like Indian food, a have not tried this place yet. It was very nicely decorated, and there were plenty of patrons on a Wednesday night. We ordered the Karaikudi chicken and Tandoori chicken. While we frequent Indian restaurants, we have never ordered either dish before. The meals were delivered quickly, but no utensils were provided. Our server was standing with her back turned to the dining room, playing with her phone. I had to get up and go over to get her attention to get napkins and utensils. The Karaikudi chicken was mild but good. The tandori was very undercooked, with the meat still being red/bloody next to the bones. I tried to get our server's attention, but she was still playing with her phone. No one came to the table to check on us until after the meal was done. Service was not good and the bone in chicken was not cooked properly, so I don't see us coming back. read more

I'd never had it before, but it was so good! I'd definitely order it again. -Masakali chicken biryani We got medium spice, but PHEW, this dish was spicy. Regardless, it was delicious. Tons of food, and we got to take home leftovers. To my fellow low-spice-tolerant white folk, don't let the yogurt sauce go to waste. It helps calm the spice a tad. -Parotta I stand by a good piece of naan bread, but this may be my new favorite! It's a flaky, buttery bread that is super tasty! Overall, the food was top-notch. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. I always want to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were understaffed. However, one of the dishes we ordered didn't come out until 20 minutes after the first dish. I'd prefer if all the food came out within the same time frame. I have been twice and have been very pleased. I think it's fair to say that a restaurant may be legit when you step into an ethnic restaurant and there are patrons of that ethnicity. On both occasions that I have eaten here the vast majority of customers are of Indian decent. A good sign to me, and I'm glad that there such is large Indian community in Birmingham. The menu is quite large and overwhelming with dishes that we are not familiar with. Our waitress was patient and helpful answering questions. Although her English was a little difficult to understanding. Nonetheless she described the dishes with great detail. I would also add that service is a little slow. A new Indian restaurant in Hoover located in the same shopping center as Guitar Center. The deceiving exterior reveals a large opens dining room with a small bar and two mounted large screen lcd tvs. One already had karaoke indian music. The decorations are unique with a large pink flowered "tree" in the middle that surrounds a telephone booth. The walls are painted with a jungle theme. They do play indian music that can be rather loud but you could easily have a conversation at your table. Our party of three ordered dishes to share. It was a Friday evening and there was only about 8 others there at the time, but it still took about 30 minutes to get our first dish. We ordered 4 dishes and they served them as they were made instead of all together. Drinks are simple. I had a canned Sprite and we had a large pitcher of room temperature water with metal cups. Parotta with chicken curry: The parotta bread is south indian style meaning it's not the northern style where it's stuffed or made with potatoes. The parotta was just cooked, layered, warm, soft yet crunchy... it was so good! Yom Yom Yom Yom! It only came with 2 medium sized parottas which we quickly ate and wish we had more. The chicken curry was also outstanding. Perfect dark orange color, creamy with lots of coconut, served in a small bowl with 3 pieces of chicken. When ordering I requested spice level 5 (out of 10) and that just the right amount for us. Dhaba style chicken curry: Tammy got an order of 3 garlic naan (not included) with this curry. The naan was also freshly made and also delicious! Buttery with just the right amount of crunch... dipping it in the curry was delicious! This chicken curry was not the same as the curry with the parotta. This curry was a little more tart and not as creamy with as much coconut flavor, but it was still good. The dish came with a small bowl of basmati rice. Matthew's Gongura goat biryani arrived next: Our server warned him that it is normally made with a spice level 7 and he said that was ok. Well, it was hot! He had beads of sweat on his forehead! The portion was large served in a large bowl. I found it to be rather salty and also too spicy. It was served with a small bowl of yogurt that you can use to tone down the spice. This was the only dish that I didn't care for. Street style shrimp noodles: The last dish to arrive and my favorite. This indo-asian dish used the skinny small egg noddles wok fried with spices, served with green onions, and chopped up pieces of battered fried shrimp. It was so good! Yom Yom Yom Yom. The spice level was also a 5 and just right. I would gladly order this dish again with another protein. The prices are on the high side but the portions were large such as the biryani and noodles. These were just a few dishes in their 4 page rather extensive menu. They've only been open for 6 months. Welcome to Hoover, Hyderabad. I will return to try more dishes. read more

First let me say that I am originally from Hyderabad and know the cuisine of my region well. I am sharing my experience so other patrons know what to expect. The ambience is nice and the decor is well appointed. The colors and keeping up with the current trends. We went in for dinner at 6:30 pm and we're seated right away. We have a 2 year old with us and they had Cartoon Network playing so my son was thoroughly entertained. TV is a treat for him. We were not in the mood for a very spicy meal so we chose the least spicy dish on the menu " Chicken Afghani" and Goat Curry with Poroota. We insisted to make both dishes mild. The food came fairly quickly but upon tasting the chicken afghani we were surprised how spicy it was. I told the lady who took the order that it was very spicy and to check with the chef if they made a mistake and did not read our request to make it mild. In response, she let me know that the item was the least spicy item on the menu and she will check with the chef. 20 mins later I ask her if she spoke to the chef as we had focused on eating the other dish and guzzling our bottled water. She let me know the kitchen is busy and she did not speak with anyone and that next time she will make it mild. I did not say much as we needed to feed our kid and get out of there. She had two options to make it right for us. Take the entree back and remake it based on our order or write off the amount from the check as it was not made per our request. She did none of that and charged me for the item without even an apology. I am from Hyderabad and know what my cuisine should taste like. Hyderabadi food is flavorful and not spicy, where your nose is running and you have to guzzle tons of water. If you can't be authentic with the regions cuisine and provide a minimum level of customers service, then don't be in the service industry with misrepresenting a regions cuisine. There are several aspects to this restaurant to note. The first is the food. The food is incredible, probably the best desi food in town. Nothing seemed to disappoint from the butter chicken to the biryani, but my absolute favorite was the afghani goat curry. The flavors were different but rich and so delicious. The restaurant itself is large and spacious. They hold large groups as well. It is beautiful and can be a good setting for a photo session. The service here is subpar. It was as though they had no training or dining experience themselves. Or maybe they were thrown my hosting a large party. The food was coming out at different time and far in between. Love to explore new Indian restaurant and I am very picky when it does come to an Indian restaurant because I am myself. All I have to say this new place exceeded my expectation. When you walk in the ambience is not like a typical Indian restaurant it's actually cute chic maybe even Instagram worthy. We tried the special dishes from the region that they're known for and they were amazing. I would definitely go back just to try all the vegetarian dishes this time I ate non-veg. The owner of the restaurants stopped by every table to see how they were doing, which was classier than a lot of restaurants that I've been to Indian or non-Indian. And the staff was super friendly. It did start getting a lot busier as we were trying to leave so the service got a little slow so they still have to work a little bit of the kinks but other than that definitely go try it out. read more
