I ate 1 piece, yes that's how much chicken came from my order lol.

I'm very disappointed in the service and quality of food from this spot... I was excited to try it and give it a shot. Not only was the food not good but the amount of chicken to rice ratio was quite funny. I paid 30 dollars for the curry chicken 2 plates. For 8 pieces of chicken... someone's trying to stay afloat I see. Times are rough I understand, but to cheat me out of a meal is quite unfair. 1/10 from spicy matka. Hopefully they step up after this review.

This is maybe my 6th time to this restaurant. It was a 5 stars in my books until the recent visit. The service was always slow but friendly and they would make up for it. This last time we literally had to go to the kitchen asking for the chapati. The dish was so spicy which we love spicy however this last time it was unbearably spicy that we couldn't eat without some sort of bread. The dishes got cold and no chapati. Also the mouton chops had no meat on them. It is kind of sad a restaurant being one of your favorite spots and it decline. I will still return but truly I will be careful on what to order and how to order. A tiny soup Nawabi Goat Paya my cup had nothing but broth for $11? Co

Great food. We had the Manchurian noodles, the chili garlic chicken, cilantro mint chicken, and tikka Marsala. I recommend all but the tikka masala. My favorite was the chilli garlic chicken appetizer. The Ambience is bright, clean, new surfaces everywhere and immaculate bathrooms. The servers were attentative yet soft spoken. Prices are fair. We'll be back to try the lunch buffet.

Ambience: 4/5 - very well done place with enough lighting and freshly mopped floors (we went when it opened for brunch). Comfortable seating though felt music could have been turned down a bit and different songs might be worth adding to the rotation of 1. Service: 3/5 - Mainly because we sat for a good 10-15 min before being acknowledged. There was a large catering order being filled but still... greet customers, offer a drink and then go back to helping load food into customers car? Menu is large but not descriptive and dishes were not explained to us. We asked if they served dosas (breakfast item) and were informed that indeed they do. Again that's on a separate menu which was not originally provided. Food: 5/5 - the dosas were superb. Huge portions and the chutney (coconut and the tomato) were both delicious! All in all, what started out sketchy turned out great. I met one of the partners who explained how they are still working kinks out. I hope they do well because the food was delicious! Definitely going back for more!!

Wow! I can't believe I haven't tried this Indian restaurant earlier! The food here is amazing! The goat kheema dosa was very hearty, seasoned well, and so delicious! It's definitely big enough to share as an appetizer or if you want to eat as your main entree. I also got the nilgiri korma curry with goat, which was superb. The curry was rich, with many chunks of goat. There were, however, a good portion of bones, which definitely added to the flavor of the curry but also took away from the eating experience (since you don't want to accidentally bite down on a bone when eating a mouthful of the curry). The curry comes with a side of rice, but I'd recommend getting some naan to accompany it too. Garlic naan is of course a must! I will definitely return and try their other menu items! It's the best Indian spot I've been to here in SA thus far.

Came with a group and received excellent and friendly service. The place was clean and everything was made to order. The food definitely lives up to it's name so beware when you order. Spicy will sneak up on you like a ninja. The food was flavorful as well as spicy. We had a lot of dishes since we were a group. They even have a spicy naan. I didn't know that was a thing. LoL. I also enjoyed my mango lassi. I haven't had one in years and it helped cut some of the heat.

We really enjoyed Hyderabadi Spicy Matka restaurant. The food was delicious. We ordered it mild, which was perfect for me. The service was wonderful. We were waited on--no need to order at front, like some restaurants. The decor was beautiful. These are the dishes we ordered. Pictured here:

I ordered tandoor wings and jeera rice but was pushed the chicken masala. I suppose it's because they were busy. I suggest ordering a $5 Hopadillo iPA while you wait. Don't expect to hold any phone calls here as the place is quite intimate and loud when even mildly busy. It's not a big deal whatsoever as one should enjoy their time with one's own company or those they are dining with and not spend it on their phone. Another thing you must come with is patience and time. They are super busy but on the ball. Please don't be rude. This is someone's way of showing their love via food. Thank you for reading :)

After seeing the abundance of folks walking in on opening day, I'm happy we got to try it out almost a week out. This place has been reopened under a different name and what seems to be an entirely different menu. How refreshing! Stepping inside, you can see a nice floral display with a cute couch for what I assume is a photo-op. You do have to wait to be seated, and they might have just been too short staffed on a Sunday evening to have someone present to do exactly that. We actually had a stroller with us, and we were seated exactly at the entrance and the space was TIGHT. We tucked in one of the chairs to make do and it was fine. Looking in, it looked like there was another section that seats larger parties but our entire party of 7 wasn't big enough for that area apparently. OKAY. Onto the food -- we ordered a few dishes. 1. Chicken 65 -- DEFINITELY one of the best dishes we ordered. 2. Hyderabadi Dum Biryani -- couldn't really taste the difference between this biryani and the one served at Pastries and Chaat. 3. Malai Chicken Tandoori -- GREAT presentation, poor taste -- felt like I was tasting mushy chicken. 4. Bombay Noodles w/ Chicken -- this was pretty good! It was not too spicy and it definitely had a good flavor profile. 5. Kali Mirchi Chicken 6. Butter & Garlic Naan -- you'd think I'd have preferred the garlic naan, but I feel it was undercooked and so butter naan FTW. The reason for 3 stars -- for the portion, the price point was a bit on the higher end. Additionally, it's very rare for me to place a piece of chicken in my mouth at a RESTAURANT and try to chew ligaments / tendons and unfortunately this happened quite a few times this visit. As I stated previously, the space was TIGHT but like what can we do about that? I don't see this restaurant on my ban list -- I'd definitely come back when I have a craving for the chicken 65 or the noodles!

Good and will return. This new place is doing things right. Cuisine: Taste is authentic with sizable Portions and Presented nicely on plates or in metal bowls. Quality ingredients are fresh and seasoned well. Spicy is the middle name and food here is spicy, some hot enough to make you sweat but you can ask to have it toned down. Service: Friendly staff greeted us as we came in telling us we could sit anywhere. They came to our table in seconds providing bottled water and menus. They were Attentive and asked if we had any questions about the food, and being clueless white folks not knowing a lick of the Indian language except for naan, we did ask. Staff is knowledgeable and the menu variety is better than average. Ambiance: Cool art work all around. It was Clean with modern Decor and adequate Lighting. Good Value: Pricing was affordable and we took leftovers home too. Fed 4 people tipping 15% for a total of $93. Other: My Indian friend said Matka means "earthen bowl." Share and impress your friends.

But, today I…read morefound myself home alone, hungry for Indian food, and feeling way too wiped out from a rough day to head out and get something. I decided to use DoorDash. The wait for the delivery was only about an hour. That was fine with me, as I had plenty of things I needed to get done before I sat down to dine. When I lifted the bundle that was left at my door, I was shocked by the weight! I don't feel like I ordered all that much, but they sure sent a lot of food. I ordered lamb vindaloo, garlic, naan, rice, and samosas. All of it was truly delicious. The large pieces of lamb meat in the vindaloo were tender and soaked with the delicious flavor of the spicy sauce. There were not as many potato chunks as meat chunks, which I consider a good thing in vindaloo. The garlic naan was some of the best I have ever had. I ordered two of them, but really didn't need the second one. They were huge. By themselves, they tasted delicious, but when you dipped it into the vindaloo sauce, it was absolutely amazing. The very first Indian food I ever had was at a dinner party in 1973 when my family was living in Taiwan. The most memorable item for me was the samosas. The ones from this restaurant we're almost exactly like I remembered. I have to also comment on how well everything was packaged. All of the containers were shrink wrapped for extra precaution. I don't think anything could've leaked even if the driver put it upside down. I am anxious to go and try eating at the actual restaurant. Somehow it was off my radar. Supposedly, it's only 4.5 miles from my home who knew?

The dinner options were either a buffet, or order straight from the menu. Since the buffet was only $15 per person and included some items we wanted to have anyways, we chose the buffet. The choices were limited in number, but enough for us. Buffet included some traditional entrees like Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Masala and several different kinds of Curry dishes. The rice and nan complimented the dish. Wifey enjoyed her meal and felt like the spice level was good enough, but I wanted something a bit more spicy. If my taste buds don't burn a little, then I feel like it is too Americanized. I understand that a buffet is prepared for the average person, but since San Antonio is already known for spicy foods, then a dish or two of a higher heat level would suffice for me. The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping center and it not real visible from the street so luckily Yelp got us here. It is however, close to Loop 1604, so it is an easy drive after exiting. Waitstaff is friendly and on point so it made the small, but comfortable indoor dining a pleasant experience. We will most likely return and fill our craving here and don't forget to have the Mango Lassi, as it was a nice way of finishing your dinner.

The outside of the building shows its age with some faded menu advertisements, but once inside the restaurant opens up more than I expected. At first it feels small, but past the bar there's a comfortable-sized dining room. Every TV was tuned to the World Cup, which gave the restaurant a fun, energetic atmosphere during my visit. Service was prompt and friendly. My waiter recommended the pork for the momo dumplings and also suggested pairing the meal with one of their Himalayan beers. After reading several Yelp reviews, I ordered the sizzling pork momo, naan, and chicken vindaloo. I also took the beer recommendation, which ended up being a good decision considering I ordered the vindaloo at a 4 out of 5 spice level. The sizzling momo was the standout of the meal. The dumplings were excellent, and the accompanying sauce was flavorful enough that I found myself dipping almost everything into it. The basmati rice was perfectly cooked, and the chicken vindaloo had a nice level of heat without overwhelming the other flavors. The chicken itself was tender and cooked well. Portions were generous, and I ended up with more food than I could comfortably finish by myself. Overall, this was a great first visit. Next time I'll bring my wife so we can share a few different dishes and explore more of the menu.

Best food ever. Here in SATX, for years, I've (begrudgingly) frequented Madurai Mes a few blocks away. You enter the lobby, and it feels like the staff is having a competition over who can ignore you. It's cramped and dingy, and there are AC hoses snaked throughout the place, and I've never been able to eat there for under $30, but they make a pretty good thali. And so in my brain, the best indian food comes from Resturants you don't much want to eat at. Nawabi was huge and well lit and dare I say clean? It felt slightly dated, and culturally a bit off - like maybe it belonged to an Ethiopian restaurant before - but classy. So the food was going to suck. The menu is expansive and seemingly interesting. It was missing my thali. It did have a number of dishes that offered a few things to try. I haven't, as an adult, longed for food served from a bucket - but Biriyani seems like a solid choice with which to fill one. My kid doesn't care for dosas, but does he like chocolate dosa? This is a novel combination to me, and maybe also to my waiter, who had me point it out on the menu. It was good, the dosa was thin and crispy with the right amount of edges, the sambar was just ok, the chutneys were good, mutton curry was excellent. I skipped dessert, and opted for chai masala. But I should have really gone with some of their kulfi which looked super tempting in its display case. In short, everything was pretty awesome. I have my next visits penciled in to try the lunch buffet, peruse the weekend menu, and track down the AYCE pani puris. The only problem was that this time - on a Monday night - I was the only customer there, which was weird. But the staff was super welcoming, no Deliverance vibes, so I went with it.
