This Indian restaurant is easily one of the best I've ever been to. Their Manchurian gobi appetizer was so scrumptious I honestly thought I was eating chicken--it reminded me of the best sesame chicken I've had: perfectly crunchy and packed with flavor. The chicken biryani and chicken tikka masala were just as delicious. The chicken was incredibly tender, and the biryani was rich with flavor and loaded with ingredients. Their chai was also so, so good--definitely a standout. I've been searching for great Indian food in San Antonio, and I'm so glad to say I've finally found my favorite so far in terms of taste and flavor. I ordered boneless chicken malai kabab and butter naan. For boneless malaise kofta, I'm not sure how it's called boneless. All the pieces I tried they had tendons in them and it's not tender. This is a must try! I loved the vibe: very family-oriented and welcoming. The gentlemen treated my partner and I with respect. Get used to the traditional ambiance and ask for what you need lol. They also have a private room that you can book ahead of time for celebrations. I loved the decor and the MULTIPLE food options. Not only was the food not good but the amount of chicken to rice ratio was quite funny. I paid 30 dollars for the curry chicken 2 plates. This last time we literally had to go to the kitchen asking for the chapati. The dish was so spicy which we love spicy however this last time it was unbearably spicy that we couldn't eat without some sort of bread. The dishes got cold and no chapati. The restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated. We went in between lunch and dinner. So there were a handful of tables being used. The service was good. Bottled waters are automatically brought out, (at $.50 each). Clean water is a must at a restaurant. The food here was excellent. The options are many to choose from, as the menu is large. You can order your meal spicy or mild if needed. The portion size was also impressive...shareable. The naan was fresh, the white rice was aromatic and tasty. Great food. We had the Manchurian noodles, the chili garlic chicken, cilantro mint chicken, and tikka Marsala. I recommend all but the tikka masala. What a delightful Indian lunch we ate! The cook offered to make me a "combination plate" so we could try different foods. Each dish was delicious! And we had big portions of each! The samosas were made fresh with each order and were perfectly crisp! read more

Comfortable seating though felt music could have been turned down a bit and different songs might be worth adding to the rotation of 1. Service: 3/5 - Mainly because we sat for a good 10-15 min before being acknowledged. There was a large catering order being filled but still... greet customers, offer a drink and then go back to helping load food into customers car? Menu is large but not descriptive and dishes were not explained to us. We asked if they served dosas (breakfast item) and were informed that indeed they do. Again that's on a separate menu which was not originally provided. Food: 5/5 - the dosas were superb. Huge portions and the chutney (coconut and the tomato) were both delicious! Wow! I can't believe I haven't tried this Indian restaurant earlier! The food here is amazing! The goat kheema dosa was very hearty, seasoned well, and so delicious! It's definitely big enough to share as an appetizer or if you want to eat as your main entree. I also got the nilgiri korma curry with goat, which was superb. The curry was rich, with many chunks of goat. There were, however, a good portion of bones, which definitely added to the flavor of the curry but also took away from the eating experience (since you don't want to accidentally bite down on a bone when eating a mouthful of the curry). The curry comes with a side of rice, but I'd recommend getting some naan to accompany it too. Garlic naan is of course a must! I will definitely return and try their other menu items! I'll preface this by saying that my husband is Indian, we used to live in Mumbai/NYC and we are foodies, so we know what good looks like. This place isn't it. We came here when the restaurant first opened and it was great, but it has declined significantly. We were here on a busy Saturday night. 3 waiters for an almost full restaurant. One on his phone while servicing! Asked for the following: cold water - no, don't have it. Tamarind chutney for papad - no, don't have it, Tandoori Roti - no, don't have it, Pomfret - no don't have it, Custard Apple shake - no don't have it, Sheek Kebab - no don't have it, Bhel Puri - no don't have it. ALL OF THESE ITEMS are on the menu - why don't they have them?? What they did have and what we ordered - paneer - the plate was a mess - chunks of cheese with mint chutney all over it, horrible garlic naaan - bright yellow with WAY too much raw garlic, oily papadum, oily/thick chapatis and chicken tikka masala that looked like it came from the can. I ordered tandoor wings and jeera rice but was pushed the chicken masala. I suppose it's because they were busy. I suggest ordering a $5 Hopadillo iPA while you wait. Don't expect to hold any phone calls here as the place is quite intimate and loud when even mildly busy. It's not a big deal whatsoever as one should enjoy their time with one's own company or those they are dining with and not spend it on their phone. After seeing the abundance of folks walking in on opening day, I'm happy we got to try it out almost a week out. This place has been reopened under a different name and what seems to be an entirely different menu. How refreshing! Stepping inside, you can see a nice floral display with a cute couch for what I assume is a photo-op. You do have to wait to be seated, and they might have just been too short staffed on a Sunday evening to have someone present to do exactly that. We actually had a stroller with us, and we were seated exactly at the entrance and the space was TIGHT. We tucked in one of the chairs to make do and it was fine. Looking in, it looked like there was another section that seats larger parties but our entire party of 7 wasn't big enough for that area apparently. OKAY. Onto the food -- we ordered a few dishes. 1. Chicken 65 -- DEFINITELY one of the best dishes we ordered. 2. Hyderabadi Dum Biryani -- couldn't really taste the difference between this biryani and the one served at Pastries and Chaat. 3. Malai Chicken Tandoori -- GREAT presentation, poor taste -- felt like I was tasting mushy chicken. 4. Bombay Noodles w/ Chicken -- this was pretty good! It was not too spicy and it definitely had a good flavor profile. 5. Kali Mirchi Chicken 6. Butter & Garlic Naan -- you'd think I'd have preferred the garlic naan, but I feel it was undercooked and so butter naan FTW. The reason for 3 stars -- for the portion, the price point was a bit on the higher end. Additionally, it's very rare for me to place a piece of chicken in my mouth at a RESTAURANT and try to chew ligaments / tendons and unfortunately this happened quite a few times this visit. As I stated previously, the space was TIGHT but like what can we do about that? Quality ingredients are fresh and seasoned well. Spicy is the middle name and food here is spicy, some hot enough to make you sweat but you can ask to have it toned down. Service: Friendly staff greeted us as we came in telling us we could sit anywhere. They came to our table in seconds providing bottled water and menus. They were Attentive and asked if we had any questions about the food, and being clueless white folks not knowing a lick of the Indian language except for naan, we did ask. My mom and I came here after a long morning and we were super hungry. So hungry. We placed our order and felt like we were waiting an eternity for the food to come. So long. I'm of indian heritage and usually am not a fan of indian restaurants, but this food was special. The Dosa my mom got was delicious. The chutneys were delicious. The dosa came out a little cold but it doesnt matter bc it was amazing. I think it was cold bc they were waiting to bring both things out at the same time. The dish I ordered was a paneer (farm cheese?) skewer. I'm vegetarian, but finally think I understand how the meat kebabs must taste bc they covered these with a spice rub and cooked them to perfection. The portions were big and I couldnt finish everything so we took home the leftovers and I savored them the next day. I dont regularly write reviews. I hardly do. Usually takes too much time to write and I dont have enough to say. This place was exceptional. I have lived in the Texas Hill Country for 9 years after moving from 40 years in Houston. For those 9 years, with apart from 1 Indian restaurant of note there is nothing out here, a veritable Indian food desert! Until I found this jewel on Bandera Road 90 minutes from my house, Hyderabadi Spicy Matka. Superb, unpretentious & what we need out here! Food - Excellent! Lentil Soup delicious with 2 chapatis (only place in the USA that I have found that serves them!) Followed by an exceptional Gongura Goat Curry with Basmati Rice. Simply sensational! Service - Very polite and helpful. Ambiance - Exceptionally clean and basically charming, really enjoyed the Indian big screen music. This is a newer restaurant that has great Indian food that is authentic. Beware it's got real spice and flavor! You can tell by the clientele here, it's the real deal. We had the corn (highly recommend) and chicken 65 for appetizers, both got cleaned out. Chicken tikka masala was great, biryani was what you'd expect from a Hyderabadi place, fantastic. The veg stir fry noodles were perfect, very difficult to find this in this city it's a classic take on a indochinese dish very popular in India. Mango lassi was also the best I've had in the city. It was the classic flavor, not too sweet or other added flavors. Ambiance was good, decorated with flowers and clean. Service was fast and they were very helpful and quick to respond to any need. I was so excited at how great the food looked when it arrived I forgot to take pictures. It was absolutely delicious - I got the Chicken Chettinad. It was piping hot in a silver bowl with the most beautiful rice and garlic naan bread. So you get to make your plate exactly how you want to. The chef was running the food out and making sure everyone was happy. Inside was decorated authentically and it is clean. I can't recommend this place enough. The spice on the Tandoor Chicken was perfect. The Butter Chicken wasn't as spicy, next time well order the spice level a little higher.
