Vege korma was quite underwhelming and not the typical Navratan korma with orange gravy we get at other restaurants. This one was more of a white coconut gravy. Unexpected. Garlic naan isn't your traditional type of Naan at all. It's more a thin flat bread with brushed olive oil & garlic. This was very disappointing. This place seems to be run by non Indians and hence lacks the Indian touch of how traditional naan is supposed to be - soft & fluffy. I was in this part of town to have an MRI in anticipation of my upcoming shoulder replacement surgery. I decided I wanted to stop for lunch somewhere, and I was craving Indian food. I went to maps on my iPhone and did a search for "Indian food near me". This place showed up and was only a few miles away. I guess I would classify this as Indian fast food. The reasons being, that you order at the counter, seat yourself, get your own drinks, and your food comes out really quickly. However, there was nothing fast food about the food itself. I had the vindaloo with lamb meat. It was very good. I also had a garlic naan with it. I thought I had ordered some samosas, but when I checked the receipt, I realized I didn't. One of my important things when trying a new spot is the service and I can truly say everyone here was so kind! They have a wide range of items on their menu so I ordered lamb tikka masala 4/5 and regular naan 5/5. The tikka masala came with rice and it was really good 5/5. Tarka is no Biryani Pot, but it's pretty good for chain Indian food. I enjoyed my meal a lot. I had the chicken tikka masala plate with tikka masala fries. Both were piping hot just how I like it. The flavor wasn't as strong as you would get at a typical non-chain Indian place, but it was still pretty tasty. The service was great. I loved the whipped mango lassi, it was like ice cream. Next time I go I'd love to try the mango lemonade and the mango cheesecake. I do love how everything is labeled gluten free, vegetarian, etc. That is really nice of them to do. Finally had an opportunity to try Tarka and was very happy I came by! The employees were really nice it is a quick service restaurant but the employees were still super helpful. I came with my husband and some friends and we ordered a few apps/entrees to eat family style. For apps we ordered the tikka masala fries with the tamarind sauce and ketchup. I'm a tamarind fan but didn't love that sauce. We ended up using the Desi ranch and oh my that combo was amazing. Highly recommend that. We also got the samosas with the mint chutney and that was really good as well. For mains we got the tikka masala with chicken and paneer. Both were good but our fav was the paneer. We also got the chicken vindaloo and it was tasty as well. It wasn't the best Indian we've had (because that is found at fancier places), but if you're looking for some solid food and not break the bank or have a long sit down meal, this is your place. The kid menu tikka masala came with a drink and was enough for an adult. My husband got the adult portion with no drink and it was probably 20% more food MAYBE. And double the cost of the kid one. The samosas were delish, the fries were FIRE!!!, the covered samosa (for name), naan, Dahl... all so good. I'll preface this by saying that I've had Indian food from around San Antonio, and this is in my humble opinion not the BEST Indian restaurant in the city. HOWEVER, my expectations of Tarka being a more casual chain spot were blown away from my recent experience because of their service and inclusive menu. I would stick with it for a nice takeout option. It was pretty quiet when we went considering it was a Saturday evening . Very clean and colorful atmosphere with plenty of tables available. It's a counter service place, where you can order online, at the kiosk (we liked using this kiosk to look at the helpful pics), or at the cash register. If you order at the register, you can use your points and rewards. I reccommend signing up on their App before you go. You'll get a free appetizer on your first visit and can earn points with every dollar- great redemption system. Anyway we had never gone before and despite our many many questions, the staff was beyond courteous, patient, and genuinely helpful with their recommendations and information about various menu items. They were all so kind and definitely made our ordering process more streamlined. The food prices were pretty good in my opinion, under 15 dollars per entree, just be sure to add a few some appetizers like their Naan and samosas. I love how everything is clearly labeled vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and contains nuts. So inclusive! They even have a nutrition analysis online you can access. The food came out relatively quickly considering it's made to order and not a standard indian buffet. Good presentation, good taste. Temperature could have been better- everything was a little cold for me. I ordered the kabob and with the Tikka sauce dressing it tasted great but next time I'll stick with a curry or biryani- what theyre known for. The kabob was healthy but not bursting with rich flavor. My mom and sisters Tikka was great though! The Naan wasn't too flavorful either, and again very cold. If food can be brought out fresh and hot that would elevate the whole taste too. They also let you customize the protein. You can make it vegetarian. If you download the app, you can get a free appetizer. I ordered the samosa chaat to start with. It was a Samosa covered in chickpeas, chutney. It was a good combo, but eat it quickly because the samosa will get soggy For my meal, I had the mattar paneer. It came with a side of basmati rice. I felt like it was a good portion for me. The flavor was great. For drinks, they do have a soda fountain, but they also have mango lemonade that tastes so delicious. I did notice they have wine for sale. When you arrive, you can either order at the kiosk or with one of the workers. They do have inside and outside seating. I saw a lot of people taking food to go. My go to for Indian food. Tarka has been one of our favorites over the years. No matter the location, their service, quality, and cleanliness have been consistently fantastic. Our last visit was at this location and the staff were exceptionally kind and respectful, going so far as to let me bring my drink from another café in with me and offering me a water glass. The menu is full of the usual favorites for Indian restaurants with a sizable amount of vegetarian and vegan options to enjoy, and a short beer and wine list to choose from. While our wait time for our meal wasn't long at all, the smell of all the spices and the sound of food sizzling as it was prepared had us more to than eager to dig in when we received our order. I had the Shrimp Tikka Masala and split a basket of Garlic Naan. The Basmati Rice was super light and fluffy, prepared with flavors that made it delicious on its own while also complementing the plentiful spices of the curry as well. While I'd ordered the Medium spiciness for my Tikka Masala, it still had an excellent kick to it. The Shrimp were plump and large, but were a little lacking in quantity. That's not to say they skimped on the Shrimp, it was just very glaringly obvious when my companion had tons of Chicken in their dish, at least double the amount. While it was to be a little expected as shrimp is a higher priced protein, I'd recommend ordering extra if you also opt for Shrimp. As for the Garlic Naan, I have no complaints. It was on the thicker side with a soft interior and crispy outside, and was glazed with an excellent garlic butter. It tasted so good with the spicy curry, and we wished we'd ordered another serving. If you're craving Indian food, I'd definitely recommend Tarka. Every visit has been spectacular, not to mention the leftovers are just as delicious! Give this location a try! read more

They also send coupons in the mail which is great if you live nearby. I do recommend ordering at least a medium spice level if you enjoy hot food because mild is pretty bland. After a long day Tarka still hits the spot. The employees are super friendly and the ordering process is really easy. The menu is straightforward and the online ordering system is simple to use. I like that they have stubborn sodas. The flavor of the food is really good with a nice kick. The veggie samosas are super tasty. So I ordered shrimp vindaloo, garlic naan, and the most delicious strawberry rose lemonade. Obviously the lemonade is sooooo tasty. The right amount of sweet sour and floral! The naan is also delicious, buttery and garlicky yum. The entree however is very mild. While the flavor is ok it doesn't wow me. I ordered medium and there virtually no heat. Now to my real gripe; the onions and peppers are cut so rustically that I will not eat them. I added potatoes for an additional $2 and I counted 10 cubes total that are smaller than the onions or peppers. I am one of those ppl if I'm ordering Indian and add potatoes, make the dish a potato dish with a lil bit of shrimp. They're honestly the size of breakfast potatoes and like why are the onions and peppers bigger than the potatoes?
