My friend and I got kicked out for talking. We weren't loud, could barely hear each other. The comedian got mad and had us escorted out.. it was a wild experience. I called today asking for the footage of the show to understand what exactly the problem was because we were shocked that we were asked to leave for quiet table talk. I spoke with a manger, Shawn, at hyenas asking for a refund on the food and drinks that we had just ordered before they kicked us out, the manager was just as rude as the comedian. Basically if you want to see stand up comedy in Fort Worth, this is your only choice and the go-to for years. However, they are dishonest when it comes to the final check at the end of the show. They take your credit card at the start of the show to "have it." Same when you go to movie theaters that serve food. They then drop the check off at the end of the show with your card ran. What they don't tell you is that they charge an automatic 15% gratuity on your check. They just drop an unitemized "sign me" receipt with a tip line. I asked for the itemized because the waitress was terrible and forgot to bring me a bottle of Mich Ultra after 30 minutes. I wanted to make sure I wasn't charged but an unwelcome addition to my check was made with the auto-gratuity. Waitresses run 10+ tables to make their money but it kills the service. Management doesn't appear to help or run drinks/food. Typical of lazy managers. I worked in the service industry and know how it is and whats happening here. In any case. Scum bag move by dropping a run card receipt without an itemized and / or letting guests know you "automatically" charge gratuity. I'm sure this isn't even legal. I added pics of the check that was dropped and then the itemized. They lied to those in attendance Feb 16 2024. There was an issue between them and the scheduled comic. They came over the PA saying the comic had a "family emergency" and to see them "afterwards for a refund." There was no family emergency and there was nobody aware of any refunds. Just be a man and admit you lied. They left, then deleted, responses to Google reviews. I left a comment on their Facebook page, which got deleted, then I was blocked. The owner's reasoning for the entire fiasco has evolved more and more. He's trying to limit fallout from it instead of just admitting everything was messed up from the jump. The guy checking us in at the door was rude. There was an odd vibe from the moment we stepped in the door. It's highly unlikely that I'll ever step foot in there again, which sucks. Always enjoy the comics here. The place automatically hits you with a 15% gratuity, so be careful and do not double tip. The waitresses will try and hid this auto tip from you by not giving you a itemized receipt. Normally you get no receipt at all so you have to specifically ask. This is a cool venue and it's HUGE! From the outside it looks tiny, but it's giant! It's got pool, a juke box, several stages! Photo opps and all kinds of quirky fun things! We came for a free show on Thursday! (Most Thursdays are free shows btw!) and it was fun! They have a two item minimum. But we had intended on getting drinks anyways. It lost a star for me because they only had one waitress. ONE! For the entire show. I felt soooo bad for her! I visited this comedy club last weekend to see Tim Dillon. The show was wonderful, and I had lots of fun. The only reason for the 2 star review is that I don't think enough precautions are being taken at this place. Although staff members are wearing masks, mask wearing is not enforced indoors. Additionally, while they tried to keep parties separated, the room appeared to be packed. Perhaps this was because of the big headliner that night, but I did not feel safe at this venue. With so many people packed in a room together, laughing and talking, I felt that I was putting myself at risk. I had a glass of red wine, which was just good. I wasn't expecting the best of wines at a comedy club, so that's alright. Again, the comedians of the night were amazing, but I was disappointed that the Hyena Comedy Club was not taking Covid-19 precautions seriously. read more

Overall we like Hyena's. The Fort Worth location is slightly nicer than the other locations. They send free tickets on a semi-regular basis if you sign up for emails. Some people are complaining in reviews about being surprised by the 2 item per person minimum in the showroom, but the minimum is clearly stated on the free ticket emails on the comedian flyers. If guests don't read the full email & flyers, that's not the comedy club's fault. I highly advise googling the comedians before attending a show if you're not familiar with them. Many shows consist of pretty crude humor, so make sure you're going to a show that is appropriate for you & your guests. I don't mind buying 2 items, but it would be really nice if they had 2 items that I actually want. The food choices are very limited and pretty bad. Think football stadium food. If you're on a diet at all, plan on buying 2 bottled waters. Food choices consist of fried frozen chicken strips, fried frozen taquitos, mozzarella sticks, sub-par fries, nachos (that term is used loosely, it's super soggy tortilla chips drowned in nasty 'cheese' sauce probably from a can), and onion rings. I would love to see better food options. I would actually order a lot more if they offered decent food. The food is also way over priced for what it is. I would love to see them change their menus and quality of food to be more similar to that if dine-in movie theaters. read more

We had originally bought tickets for Metzger but because of unforeseen circumstances we had to go on 6/04 instead. We were treated to unknown woke comics and 90 minutes of "dick jokes". Unfunny ones at that. I will say that the wait staff have always been very friendly and provide good service but for an anniversary date night, this was a terrible experience. It's ok to be uncomfortable and cringy with comedy but not for the entire 90 minutes. Usually the funny makes up for the cringe. Also, you should provide an option for couples to have that tiny table to themselves instead of forcing strangers on them. People don't want to be sociable on a date night and there just isn't enough room at that tiny table for a third and fourth person. We want to support local comedy but you gotta do better. read more

I went on Saturday June17, with family. I'm not ashamed to say I did not appreciate the homophobic person trying to be a comic. I get that comedy is subjective and many use shocking statements to try and be funny. I'm most frustrated with myself for not voicing my disgust like the brave young lady who did and after some berating from the artist, she walked out. We went to a Friday night show. The way they let you in and then you Have to wait by the bar for the vip ticket people to get seated is really unorganized but it was okay. The seating is VERY cramped together. But our server was great, the grand hyena is REALLY good. I love coming to Hyenas Fort Worth. Definitely the better one by far between the Fort Worth and Dallas location. The venue is roomy, modern and nice inside. They have a big room where the headliner and opener comedians perform, a stage for open micers, and a bar. I've came here many times. You can park for free in the nearby garage and take a short 5 min walk to the venue. The whole process of getting to your seat for the comedy show can be mysterious if it's your first time going. They're usually pretty good at communicating usually from the person at the entrance to the person that takes you to your seat. It's not clear cut exactly. Regardless of that, it's awesome, just make sure to ask if you have any questions. They have free shows a lot of times, be sure to check their site for free shows on during the week. They will usually have one on Thursday. You can also sign up for their texts for free shows on the weekend dates too. I've seen some great comedians here for free-99. Just remember there is a two item minimum for all dates. If you don't drink or want to eat, you can grab two water bottles. My go-to is always the chicken fingers with fries. Every time I've ordered them, they've been great, honey mustard, ranch, and ketchup. read more

Last night was my third night at Hyena's Comedy Club, and I usually have a great experience, but I don't think I'll be returning again. Last night, the opening act, David Lucas, was the most misogynistic, homophobic, offensive comedy act I had ever seen in my life. He didn't have a single joke that wasn't making fun of women (who he would only refer to as "bitches) or gay people. When I say those were his only jokes, I MEAN THOSE WERE HIS ONLY JOKES. It was all about fucking women, as if that's all we are good for, and how if we are college educated our pussy is not good, and so much more. Here are two jokes I remember and was really taken back by: "Ugly bitches are like a target range, to practice for when u get to real life" "Yeah, I just don't want no gay son. Anything but having a f*g" The punchlines were out of pure homophobia and misogyny and were not funny unless you genuinely hate those groups of people. It was especially uncomfortable to be a gay woman there. I had to leave at one point because it was so awful and it felt like attacks. As his show went on, people were visibly and audibly uncomfortable with his jokes, not laughing and making cringing sounds, but he kept going. When a woman in the audience had enough and called him out, his only response was "Oh shut the fuck up ugly bitch." He kept attacking her and wouldn't move on and just kept referring to them as the "miserable bitches in the back," even when other women piped up agreeing with her throughout the room. That group of women left and I'm sure they complained to the staff onsite. I understand comedians make fun of hecklers, but they were calling him out for a very good reason, and then he shot back in an extremely offensive way. It can be funny sometimes to almost cross the line of offensive for a few jokes, but for your entire set to be that offensive? Absolutely insane. Clearly this man is so unfunny, he can't make any joke thats not about women or gay people. He was also vaping on stage, which I found to be very odd. Luckily, I had won free tickets, but I would've asked for a refund if I paid for that. Really horrible experience. I heard multiple women talking after about how offensive he was. Ruined the main act for me, too, since I was in such an upset mood after being the butt of his jokes for 30 or so minutes straight. Hope Hyena's never has him return. read more

Hyena's in Fort Worth is a great place to see a standup comedy act. The place is not real big which is good because there are no bad seats. You get seated at small tables that fit 4 so you may have to share a table. But if you go during the week they are not very crowed and you sit where you want. If you sit up front you may get picked on by the comic. If you sign up on the email list you will get free tickets to see the shows. Sometime you get free tickets to see a pretty famous act. The only catch for the free tickets is you have to buy 2 drinks. Which are a good deal the prices are good and a decent selection of drinks. You can also get some bar food if you want. The place is nonsmoking which is good. You don't smell like an ashtray after you leave. read more

After buying tickets online the week ahead of time, the guy working the desk told us we couldn't be seated because the venue was at capacity. My two friends that I came with needed to use the restroom and were waiting to get to the venue to do so so they asked if they could use theirs. The guy working the desk only let one of them go because he said that he didn't believe that they needed to use the bathroom and were instead just trying to sneak in the show. Fortunately we were offered a refund. While we were waiting for said refund, we got to watch the guy working the desk continue to just treat customers rudely overall. When the manager came to give us a refund he politely offered to give us a pass into another show. However I declined the offer by telling him that his boy working the desk and ruined any chance of me or my friends coming back there. read more

I went to a free live taping of the show Laughs here and it was a lot of fun. I had never been to this place before and had never really noticed it while being out and about in downtown Ft Worth. It was under construction and would have been tricky to find if I was by myself, the Hubs saw it before I did but he had also been there a time or two in the past. They have a bar and nice waiting area with a pool table and some arcade games and a few nice compfortable chairs to sit in. We had to wait a little bit to get into the showing because they had 2 live tapings that night. I have actually never heard of the show before but am looking forward to seeing it on TV. They also have pretty good food...but for themost part just normal bar food. They have an elevator and stairs to get downstairs to where the theater/bar is. read more

The comedians were great. The experience itself was very chaotic, unsettling, stressful and unpleasant. The admission process into the main theater was similar to being boarded onto an airplane during the busiest travel season. I was not expecting this. It was all frenzied and not easy to understand what the hold up was to enter the theater. The staff seemed overwhelmed. The doors open at 7:30. The show begins at 8:30, but the staff kept bringing in more and more ticket holders to fit into the over crowded venue until 8:55. They must have exceeded the max capacity for the building and to tell the truth it felt like a safety/exit hazard. I believe they oversold the event. They seemed disorganized and unprepared as they hunted and searched for vacant chairs to seat guests. They bussed tables while they asked seated patrons to scoot over a bit as they now had new table mates who they were going to seat with them. Prior to the show we waited in a crowded bar line from 7:30 until 8:45. While waiting we had a few drinks each. We wanted to support the venue and we were also trying to get primed for the comedians. We figured we should have a few drinks before the comedians started, and we didn't think we would have time to do that if we waited until we were seated because it seemed to be taking a long time. Additionally, my date's friend had informed us of their two item minimum, and we planned to meet that requirement. We were each on our second drink and we took our drinks with us into the theater. And, as soon as we were seated, a server asked us if we would like to order. We politely explained that we were fine for now as we had just been served. We showed the beer bottles. The server then read to us the company policy regarding our obligation to order 2 items each. It was abrupt, and was presented as a challenge. We told her we had already met the requirement while waiting to be seated. She said that did not count. We had to order inside the theater. It was very unpleasant, and distracting from the experience of listening to the comedians. She returned every 5 minutes to take our order throughout the show. Her approach was aggressive. And yes, we did fulfill our obligation, we are rule followers. However, it was really unpleasant and her approach added tension from the minute we were seated. It felt like a shake down. It did not feel like service. The comedians were good. They had to pick up the pace because the start time was about 25 minutes off schedule and they had a second show after the delayed first show. They were really funny. All 3 of them. My boyfriend really liked the headliner Greg Fitzsimmons. And, the final unpleasant point of the experience was the exit. One line. One exit. It took about 15 minutes or more to unpack the room. The exit process was just as jostling as the entrance process. In summary, it was hard to enjoy the talented comedians due to the possibly oversold event. Possibly the waitstaff was over committed too. Possibly the comedians were stressed due to the time constraints of being off schedule. The whole model of event just felt like a giant hustle instead of a fun event. The vibe in the theater was not amazing. The stress level of getting x-amount of people into a too-small area, and ensuring each ticket-holder spent the required amount of money, and each comedian had time on stage was all too much. After receiving some free tickets, Jon G. and I were excited to come to Hyena's and put them to use! I've been to a couple comedy clubs in the past, same with Jon G., but we were both let down by our experience at Hyena's. Let's start with the good first. Location is right next to The Cheesecake Factory and steps away from Sundance Square. Layout is pretty cool, they have a Red Room and a Blue Room, each with their own seating and bars. Lots of cool art on the walls and interesting pictures. They also offer karaoke in the Red Room. Now for the let downs. This was our first time here and no one seemed clear or forthcoming on what to do, where to go, etc. We showed our ids, got stamped and were sent on our way. Once we get downstairs, things just got more confusing. It was packed in both rooms and no one seemed to know where to go. We checked out both sides and didn't see any entrance or staff. Our tickets showed an arrival time of 10 p.m., with the show starting at 10:30, it was 10:25, so we just figured we hang around until something happened. A little after 10:30, staff comes out and yells for all preferred blue ticket holders to line up in the blue room. They mentioned nothing about regular ticket holders, which is what we were. Since the bar had finally cleared out with all the people waiting in line, we decided to get 2 Shiners. We got two frosty bottles for $10.50. We waited patiently to be lined up next. We didn't hear anyone say anything about the not preferred ticket holders, thankfully we noticed that people had started lining up in the Red Room. We asked the people in front of us if they had known this was where to go, and they were just as clueless as we were. We get into the showroom and are seated at a teeny table In the far corner. There were three other chairs at our table and the waitress told us to leave them open so she can seat people there. A little crazy since the table and space was so small! Another couple was seated next to us, but they got up and asked for a new table after about 5 minutes because of how small and cramped it was. I don't blame them, but it was just a weird, uncomfortable exchange that could have been avoided. Now come the two things that really ticked us off. First, our two shiners we purchased before being seated did not apply towards our 2 item minimum, and they are strict about it. Second, they add a mandatory gratuity to your check without telling you beforehand, which seemed kind of silly for a 2 person check. I understand the use of both these practices, especially in a comedy club, but a little bit of communication from the staff here would have made all the difference. We don't have a problem tipping or with minimums, but it just sucks when you're not aware. Not sure if we'll be back. Perhaps in the future, if there is someone performing that we'd like to see, we'll give Hyena's another try. read more

As the comedian on stage during Brandon R's review on 2/7/2020 I want to point out a few fallacies, because maybe some people are unaware proper protocol when visiting a performing arts venue. In 20 years of doing comedy, during five of which I owned my own club, I can confidently say that nobody has ever been thrown out of a comedy venue for laughing. Brandon was, I assume based on context clues, the Kid Rock-looking gentleman in the middle of the showroom who managed to drunken-hiccup-repeat my punchlines back at me after every joke, followed by a "Wooooooo!" that is usually only heard in the wild during pig calling, regional fairs, and Skynyrd concerts. I ignored the outbursts initially, hoping he would catch on to the awkwardness of his mistimed, hillbilly caterwauling all on his own, but trailer park confidence can be an immovable object sometimes. Brandon - due to a combination of self-righteousness, alcoholism, and lack of experience in more civilized environments - ignored multiple efforts by the club staff to ask him to stop. Brandon then spun around in his chair, mid-show, to interrupt the table behind him (and also to spray tobacco-flavored spittle in their faces, I'd safely bet) about something, but they rightfully shooed him back to his drunken date. Hyenas Comedy Club staff went uncomfortably out of their way to make sure Brandon was given every opportunity to act like an adult, but the Coors was in the driver's seat at that point and they had no choice but to ask him to leave. Acting indignant over being "excorted [sic] out just for laughing" is wildly inaccurate. It would be like going to a restaurant, ordering a steak, spending the next thirty minutes throwing pieces of the steak at the chef, and then after the manager asks you to stop, instead of stopping or leaving on your own, you went table-to-table punching other diners in the face. And then going on Yelp once you got back to your trailer and accusing the restaurant for "excorting" you out "just for eating." If you're considering coming out to a performance, there are simply few venues run as well as this one. Please disregard Brandon R's feedback, and bring your laughter. It is very welcome there, and I promise the club will "cort" you for it, or whatever the opposite of "excort" is. Live comedy is really fun. Please go visit this venue. read more

You know what I hate most about bars? While I am willing to endure smoke, drunk people, and unwanted encounters with the opposite sex, it irritates me to no end to not have a place to sit. I mean, really? Given my chosen profession (and I have the varicose veins to prove it), I will always take the opportunity to sit. Besides, I cannot comfortably get drunk while standing. I don't know how Hank Hill does it. This was not so last night! After some barhopping, some chums and I finally settled on going here. It was karaoke night and there was no cover. After climbing down into the basement, we were pleased to find a spacious bar with ample seating and quick, friendly bartenders. My friends took turns rapping or singing rock songs that created impromptu dance crowds (ummm yeah I didn't join them since the two of them perform at the Ridglea on a regular basis and thus understand pitch and tone and other such necessities for singing). I think I told my friend I loved him multiple times after his especially moving rendition of Gangsta's Paradise. Alcohol may or may not have had anything to do with my enthusiasm. Most people stayed just as long as we did (until closing) and a good time was had by all. Man, even without comedians this place is still great. Note: I still find the Caves Lounge in Arlington to be waaaay smokier than this place, person for person. read more

I've been to this hyenas location now twice. Oh wow! They have made some renovations here. The first time I was here the restrooms where in the creepy side of the building, now it's been redone and not scary anymore. It's really nice the have the other room with a bar and karaoke. It's always a trek for us to come here but with the other room to hangout we don't just come here see he comedy for about an hour and head back to Plano.
