Horrible experience at this hotel, with completely outdated rooms and bugs in the bed. Very disappointing experience at Hotel Ruby Foo's. We booked a 3-night stay for F1 weekend. The first room we got had a huge yellow stain in the shower. When we told the staff, they sent two different people to clean it however they were unsuccessful. We told the staff that the stain wasn't gone and they finally changed our room after asking twice, however the second room was worse than the first. The room was infested with bugs throughout the room. We reported the issue to the front desk around midnight because the room conditions were not sanitary or comfortable to stay in. At the time we reported the problem, we were not offered another room or any immediate solution because the hotel was completely booked due to the Grand Prix, so we had no choice but to book another hotel late at night. The next day after we had already left and returned the keys, we talked to the supervisor named Walid regarding a refund. He then proceeded to tell us he would upgrade our room for free. When I asked him why we were not offered this last night he said "I don't know." I told him that we already booked another hotel and were not offered a room when we had the problem initially the night before. Walid then proceeded to deny my refund request in front of me because he claimed that he offered me an alternative; even though there was no alternative provided during the night. When I called the next day to speak to the Manager named Alex, he also proceeded to deny my refund request because he claimed that the hotel had "promptly proposed relocating" us, which was not our experience. We were not given an option to be relocated during the night, and the staff expected us to sleep with the bugs in our bed. Now anytime I try to call the manager, I am told he is busy throughout the whole day and cannot answer my call. I have sent an email and the manager hasn't replied back to me. What made the situation worse was the way management handled the complaint afterward. Instead of taking accountability or trying to resolve the issue fairly, they denied our request for a partial refund for the unused nights and dismissed our concerns. Cleanliness and customer service are the bare minimum expectations for a hotel stay. Unfortunately, this experience failed on both. The rooms do not meet basic sanitation levels and the staff are disrespectful. The videos and pictures attached are enough of a reason to stay away. read more

We're staying at Hôtel Ruby Foo's at the moment. This is day 4 of our 9 day stay. This hotel could be SOOOOO much better than it is with just a little bit of effort. We waited for about 10 minutes to be served at check-in which is no big deal and doesn't affect my review in any way. When we were served and gave our name, the first thing the person at the counter said was "you wanted a kitchenette, right? Let me check if one is available". That seemed strange to me because if you've booked a certain room 3 months in advance, you'd think they'd make sure you get what you booked. Anyway, he called and there was one available. We were given our key cards and made our way to our room. The room we were given is the farthest possible from the lobby. Again, this makes no difference to my review. We found the elevator after walking through several hallways with very dirty, stained carpets. Several more hallways took us to our room. We had read in other reviews that there was stuff lying around in the hallways, but we always wait to see whether people are exaggerating or not. They were not. There were full garbage cans outside several rooms and piles used of sheets and towels also outside of several rooms. The carpets also weren't well-vacuumed, with popcorn and other detritus littering several areas. Our room is just ok. The bathroom floor had a few little pieces of things that should have been cleaned up and the carpet also looked like it needed vacuuming. The couch is extremely old and saggy with 3 buttons missing. When I moved the toaster, the counter was covered in crumbs. The stove could use a good cleaning, both inside and out. The coffee table had rings that were gone after I cleaned them. The kitchen floor had a couple of stains that needed cleaning and the mirror in the kitchen area was all cloudy which again was fixed when I cleaned it. The walls are all very grimy-looking and the paint is scratched/marked up. As I said, all of these things could be made better with a little effort. The whole room is very dated, but the bed is pretty comfy and the air conditioning works well. The bathroom, other than the floor was quite clean and the rest of the room is fine other than looking like it's from the 70s and needs updating. On Sunday morning, we put our garbage and recycling bins outside our room to be emptied (we were told housekeeping will not enter our room during our 9-day stay) and by Monday afternoon they were still sitting out there full. We had also run out of toilet paper, tissues and some toiletries. We went to the front desk to ask for refills. We were given a couple of toiletries and tissues but told they didn't have the rest, which seemed crazy to us. If you're not going to come into our rooms to restock things, then shouldn't you have a full stock of everything at the front desk? Anyway, I mentioned the garbage and recycling sitting there for more than 24 hours and was told that they didn't have any staff available to clean that up the day before but it would be done on Monday. Again, why such a shortage of staff? The pool could also be absolutely wonderful if only a little care was taken. First of all, you have to take an elevator to the basement to access the pool. Then you have to walk through a hallway that has things lying around like an old door and a broken vacuum cleaner and just looks 'junky'. Then you go up some stairs (which could also use a lot of work) and that's where you find the pool. Depending on which lifeguard is on duty, you either give your name and room number which she notes on a sheet or you just show your key and nothing is noted down. The pool has been quite dirty every single time we've gone. There is dirt on the bottom and the top has so many bugs and little pieces of plants/leaves floating around. This could easily be rectified with someone skimming the surface a few times a day. The first day when we tried to access the pool, there was a sign saying it wouldn't open until 2:30pm. We found out that was because the lifeguard didn't show up in the morning. Staff issues again! You would think that they would have at least one failsafe for this exact situation. A note on the location...it's a few minutes walk to the metro and quite a few restaurants, which is fantastic. We bought the weekly pass and an Opus card which cost us $35 per person and it's been great. We're having so much fun checking out all the neighbouring areas and having some great meals. All in all, as I said at the beginning this hotel could be so much more with just a little care. Obviously, the dated decor and well-used look of the room would take more than a little care, but all the other things could easily be rectified. Regardless, we're making the most of it and enjoying ourselves while we're here. It's just such a shame. read more

Went to iron my clothes for the day and the iron leaks all over soaking it. A huge wedding crew taking pictures everywhere. Did the hotel make enough money off that for this bad review? An apparent emergency that warranted shutting off the showers, that they then forgot to turn back on. All of this might not have been bad, but in an effort to get some help, we called three different listed numbers, no answer. From our cell phones because the house phone doesn't work. Spoke to the manager, in a calm way (just the facts, no attitude). We were assured that the bathroom would be cleaned and we would get a new iron. Came home in the evening to the same situation. Stayed here for 5 days. Since it's pandemic, there is no service room available ( I did not try to request) We just put our soiled towels and garbage outside our room and order new set of towels. They have microwave for rent $10/day. The hotel have services such SPA, restaurants, conference rooms, free WIFI. The pool is seasonal, located near the restaurant. read more

Recently stayed at Ruby Foos as we had a funeral in Montreal. We stayed there many times over the years with no issues. However this time was very disappointing and at this point would not recommend staying there. We had requested a suite when we made the reservation but upon arrival we ended up in a small room at the opposite end of the building. The hotel has no restaurants and as we found a homeless person sleeping on a couch in the hotel. The room itself was ok but the closet door was broken and we had no towels. When we tried to talk to someone at the check in desk it was difficult as most of the staff was not bi-lingual. Price was affordable and free parking. So the stay itself could have been ok if we got the right room- but again no way to discuss with the front desk. ------ In addition, we tried to reserve a banquet room but had no luck. It took several attempts to get the responsible woman to call us back. She then told us her catering people would not be working on Monday. All we wanted to do was bring in some sandwiches, coffee, and danish but was told no outside food- even if your staff is not working??? Yes... Ridiculous- they have no food option but say no to the customer... Too many more modern and friendly options nearby like Courtyard by Marriott and the Hilton.. we've stayed at both and both are very accommodating, the exact opposite of Ruby Foos. read more

Located not too far from everywhere, Ruby Foo's is a decent stay. Prices are not too bad. Rooms are dated and worn but functional. Has a unique sliding door on the window instead of having black out curtain. Bathroom is tight and shower pressure, as usual, is non-existent. Little perks to be had here but they do have a decent bar and Eggspectation is available for a good breakfast. If dining isn't enough at Otago (on site restaurant) there are quite a bit of quick serves around, and again, not that far from downtown and other places that you might want to be. Lots of Asian inspired artwork, clothing, and displays in the hallway. A boutique shop and barber onsite. Free parking and an outdoor pool - not sure if they have on inside. I've been here dozens of times for meetings and I can't complain about much compared to other places. The location might sound weird for tourists but I don't think it's aimed at them. It is centrally located with lots of cheap and not so cheap food options. There's shopping as well as... That's about it really aside from luxury car dealerships. Traffic and construction aside, once here it's very modern and clean and the service is super friendly. Chairs and tables are nice and the branded schwag is cool to have. I can't vouch for the rooms or the outdoor pool but I've been told from guests they are upscale which makes sense given the renovations they've done here. read more

I made the mistake of letting a couple in front of me go first and of course something was wrong and they called over manager to help. That took forever. Meanwhile another check in person was helping someone else. There was a guy in front of me. Then a woman trying to be one of the Kardashians walks in front of the guy in front of me. Instead of calling the guy in front of me, he helps her and of course she didn't have a way to pay and that took sorting out. They finally got to me thirty minutes later. I go into room and hear the toilet running and of course it was broken. I went down and of course there was a fresh line of people checking in. I went off to the side and asked him to get the manager. She gets me a new room and a $17 dollar discount for one night of two. The new room was what they consider a suite. It was big but that was about it. The kitchenette area needed to be upgraded like 10 years ago. The whole hotel looked like it was great 20 plus years ago. I was traveling all day to get here and the Montreal traffic was crazy. I would have checked out but this looked like the kind of place that would charge you anyway. The Wi-Fi also drops a lot. It is also far from the city center. I would not stay here if I was coming back to Montreal. It's also 3 miles from the center of town and Uber's are ridiculously expensive. read more

This place USED to be good. Now it's crap. I asked the receptionist at 9 am for non feathered pillows. When I returned to my room at 7 pm they were not there nor was my room cleaned up. I was told that they don't clean anymore because of Covid. Ok maybe I'll buy that but where are my pillows? They told me that the morning receptionist just started her job last week so what did I expect? REALLY? REALLY? What do I expect? I expect that next time I'm in Montreal I'll stay clear of Ruby Foos.and I never got the pillows. Housekeeping goes home at 6pm. So the lesson is if you stay at Ruby Foos don't expect to have your room cleaned and if you want anything out of the norm like clean towels or more soap you'll have to bring it from home. Don't stay here. I should have stayed at the Sheraton. I'll know for next time. read more

I stayed here several years ago when I was in town for a wedding. The wedding hosts blocked off rooms here and one of the out of town dinners was also here so it just made it easier to stay at Hotel Ruby Foos. I found the hotel to be decent and clean and furniture was gently used but still in good condition and fresh. Hotel had a nice modern decor which was very pleasant. Since I was in town for a wedding, it was very convenient from the metro and other shops. But the second out of town dinner was a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I was also here in December in this day and the weather was very warm for Montreal. Walking was doable. read more

For me it sounded like a Chinese restaurant when I first saw this hotel from the inside and outside this Ruby Fool's hotel it wasnt that bad of a hotel... There is just two things that... I have to say about this hotel #1 the hotel room where I stayed was okay and for #2 didnt like when Ruby Fool's only had one elevator to use that was the only thing that I didn't like... Horrible customer service. Checked in on Thursday and was checking out on Saturday. Came back from a funeral on the Friday around 2:30pm to find the bed stripped to the mattress and my clothing and items moved to the side. I told the front desk who informed me that house keeping should have called them to double check the rooms status. That was obviously not done. I got a simple sorry and told they will make the bed up. The customer service here is horrible, was told the manager would call me but have yet to hear from anyone. If you want to feel violated and made to feel like crap I would recommend staying here. Otherwise this hotel is now a pass from me anytime I am back in Montreal. read more

The room was very nice. The front desk staff was extremely helpful. They helped us find our way around the city, helped us find things to do, especially when we had to scrap our plans due to rain, and even offered restaurant advice. We don't speak French, so this was very important. However, room service is not offered unless you are staying for 10 days. Then they will clean your room after day 5. OK, I get not changing the sheets daily, but fresh towels? Emptying trash? Making the beds? It's one of the reasons I stay in a hotel. I want to feel pampered. I didn't want to have to write this review but unfortunately the hotel does not want to try and rectify the situation. My friend and I stayed at Hotel Ruby Foos last week and at 2:30am I noticed a small flat red bug climbing up the side of the bed. I flicked it off without thinking and then realized it might be a bed bug. My friend and I lifted our pillows and we both found these tiny bugs under them we immediately packed up our things and went down to the front desk. The guy at the front desk did not seem to care that much and just asked us if we were going to check out. We said no, it's 3am, we'd like to move to the other side of the hotel so we can at least get to sleep since we had to leave at 8am. The next day when we were checking out we asked for compensation since we were forced to move at 3am and slept less than 5 hours. She said there was nothing she could do but that I would be receiving a call regarding an inspection. We were told a 3rd party would be coming to inspect the room. After not hearing anything for a few days, I called and was told a manager would call me. After 2 days (one week from the initial incident) and a lot of phone tag and repeat calling, I finally got in touch with a manager. Adriani said that they determined there was no bed bugs, so they were not getting a 3rd party company, and they were probably just bugs from outside because there's no screen on the window. She said because they're not bed bugs there's nothing she can do. I said that I'm pretty sure they are bed bugs, and either way, there were bugs in our bed, don't they care? Does it matter what kind of bugs? THERE WERE BUGS IN OUR BEDS. She said the offered an alternative (no, we asked for the alternative, since the front desk guy just offered for us to check out at 3am) so they can't do anything since they aren't bed bugs. She said "there's nothing left for me to say" and that was the end of the conversation. So, we paid 100$ for a room with bugs in the bed. So, if you want to share a bed with bugs this is the hotel for you! But don't worry, apparently they might not be bed bugs. read more

I'm a regular at this place. It's a great price and a decent stay. The people at the front desk are marvelous. Staff provides prompt, courteous service. Bed is so comfortable. Room is nothing fancy. On the down side, the Internet is terribly, terribly slow. And cable TV has few channels for U.S. travelers. Signs are posted, promising upgrades in this area. So my comment may be out of date very soon. Also on the down side: dining options. Choices are mediocre in this area of Montreal. The on-premise options are is just... meh. There's Baton Rouge and fast food joints across the street. If you want better, hop a cab to St-Laurent, Crescent St, Little Italy or downtown. read more

An okay travellers hotel. It's in a somewhat industrial/off the beaten path area off Decarie. Lots of things within walking distance, including that orange julip. There's a McDonald's and a short walk from a plaza with more dining options. An older hotel for sure but the rooms have a certain amount of boutique look. The restaurant attached to the hotel is good for breakfast. The gym actually is quite well done. Has everything essentially including full weight rack. I'd stay here again if I had to come to this area myself but it is a bit of a dated place. read more

Our room seemed clean, the bed was comfortable and parking was free, but the overall aesthetic was less than pleasing. The walls looked dirty and the bathroom doors inside the room were broken. First, the good: - Free parking - Large rooms - Nice outdoor pool - Friendly staff The bad: - If you are a tourist you will be a minimum of 20 minutes drive (longer if there is traffic) from anything you want to do. - Rooms are not cleaned thoroughly. As other reviews note, our room was indeed dusty and there were also stains on the bathtub. We also found a previous guest's tank top folded up in the closet. - We had an issue with our toilet and it took three calls, starting at 6 PM and ending at 8 pm with us begging that someone be sent up soon as our kids were headed to bed soon. The excuse was that they lost our name between call #2 and the message getting to the maintenance person. - Only fast food restaurants close by - The highway is incredibly inconvenient and often gridlocked. We will not be staying here in future trips to Montreal. read more

I got a deal for the room for a night it was $125 for the evening which included a 2 Queen sized beds and mini fridge. I slept great as the mattress was a great quality, Duvet that felt like a pillow and great pillows as well. They have an amazing pool area outside. Wonderful restaurant and bar which is also reasonable priced. I highly suggest their breakfast restaurant with freshly squeezed juices and great crepes ! read more

We were pleasantly surprised by Ruby Foo's. When the tour guide told us this would be our hotel, just hearing the name gave me instant reflex that it was going to be ghetto. When we arrived, I noticed the lobby was quite modern and clean. The hallways walking to our room looked kinda ghetto... then when I opened the door, I was surprised at how spacious and well designed the room was. The washeoom was clean amd comfortable. The beds had duvets (and not those nasty layers of dirty thin blankets). The tv was centered between the 2 beds - minor detail but makes a big difference! The window covering is this wooden panel where when closed, it displays a "chinese" art. Cute touch! Shampoo/conditioner mediocre. read more

This is our usual place to stay when we come to Montreal as it is closest to our family. This time we did not book a room because we were supposed to stay with family. When that family had a member suddenly become ill and hospitalized, we scrambled to get a room here. We needed three nights but were only able to get one to start. BUT Ruby Foo's put us top on a wait list and we were able to get the extra nights! Thank you to Frank who went out of his way to find us at breakfast to tell us the good news! We have slept really well on the good mattresses! From now on, forget staying with family! We are staying here always! read more

Came here only once for a very quick short stay (6 hours only for the night.) A friend got married around by and I needed a nearby place to just crash with the rest of the wedding group. Ruby Foo's staff is great with finding you a room according to needs and tries best to work with what you need. I didnt really use much of their services, but the rooms were well kept, moderately affordable with the adequate supplies. The bed was comfy and the check out fast. But from what I saw while checking out they have a nice pool with great seating arrangements on the side. Its located conveniently just after the 40west near decarie express. We always stay at Ruby Foo's when we come to Montreal to visit family. While it's not downtown, it's a short walk to a metro station. It's clean, updated, quiet and the beds are comfy. There are also several eating place nearby - Tim Horton's, Wendy's McDonalds, Burger King and my favorite - Dunn's for smoked meat sandwiches. Another bonus is free parking. read more

I don't complain about the location and the hotel, the only thing is the old heating and cooling systems as well as old exhaust in the washrooms they all make so much noise. The rooms cannot be quite during the night only because of these sounds other than that it is good poace. read more

We chose Ruby Foo's for a last-minute road trip to Montreal, and it proved more than satisfactory for our needs. The room itself was clean and adequate in the amenities department; we didn't come to the city to sit in a hotel room anyway. Free, no-hassle parking allowed us to dump our car and explore the city by foot and on public transit, which is a short walk away. The outdoor swimming pool was outstanding (as far as hotel pools go), which made for a nice early morning treat for the kids. And the breakfast place downstairs was surprisingly tasty. Only downsides: WiFi was slow as molasses on most of our devices, and non-fast food dining options in the area are sparse (we made sure to grab dinner downtown before heading back to the hotel). Would definitely consider for a future visit to Montreal. read more

This hotel had a comfortable bed and clean room, but it was dated. The very, very old heating/cooling system was one of those fan deals -- very noisy and impossible to regulate the setting between hot and cold. We ended up turning it off. They gave us a room that we had to take an elevator, walk like a mile, go down a set of stairs, and walk another long ways.
