We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights, it's centrally located and within walking distance to so many things. The room was nice, with a huge tub/shower. Seriously, the tub was huge. There were waters and chocolate covered raisins in the room with a nice welcome note. The Japanese sushi restaurant was bomb. So, so good. Great service too. We were able to walk to the basilica, to Echo Cirque du Soleil on the waterfront, to lots of shops and art galleries. It's a great location. read more

My kids reserved a room for me for my birthday. My best friend also reserved a room next to mine to celebrate with me. Hotel is nice but a bit dated. My room was not cool enough and after trying to adjust thermostat which did not work, I call reception, only to be told it had to be done remotely. I went out for a while and came back to a freezing room. When leaving for supper, I advised reception that the room was way too cold and to please adjust. Upon returning later that night found my room to be really warm. Heater was on. Called reception and was told that the person who could fix that was gone for the day. It was now after 11 pm. I was told they would call me back but never did. Finally after midnight another employee came to my room to see what he could do. He admitted that my room was warm. He told me he had to go to reception really fast and he would be back but alas he did not come back. At this point we are close to 1 a.m and I called reception again to be told he was busy and if I wanted I could switch rooms. I was super tired and frustrated at this point and declined. Checked out a little after 9 a.m. and the manager said I heard what happened and had it fixed this morning. My birthday outing was ruined as I did not sleep at all as it was warm and humid with the heater being on. Manager said she could comp me the $44 dollars I paid for the valet parking. I am seriously disappointed in this hotel that is supposed to be upscale. i have sent an email to the General Manager and am awaiting his response. Also besides the boy who does the valet parking, I did not see any smiles from any of the employees working there. read more

This was my second stay at this hotel in a year. I hope I never have to stay here again. I arrived late at night on a Saturday to find out that the restaurant inside the hotel is closed for renovations and, because of this, there is no food served in the hotel - no room service. It's too late at night in the neighborhood for any restaurants to be open and the hotel staff have not made any arrangements for food delivery partners. Instead, I get a "good luck" from the front desk. Then I ask about my room and am told it is still occupied. I was supposed to get a king bed but now, with no explanation, I'm downgraded to a queen bed. Turns out the bed is so broken down it is like a 500 pound weight has been put in the middle of the bed for a year - if you poured water on the bed it would form a deep pool before running over the sides. The thermostat doesn't seem to do anything ; over the course of my stay I tried raising and lowering the temperature of the room, with no success. The furniture is totally business-unfriendly: the desk height is too high and has sharp edges, while the chair provided is too low, can't be raised or lowered, and is as comfortable as sitting on a park bench all day. There is no art or decoration on the walls of any kind - just bland, bare white. The first bath towel I used after showering was like sandpaper, and there is no place to hang any towels of any kind. One positive is the robes provided, which are excellent, though full of static electricity in January (very dry atmosphere). The view from my room was of a parking lot and into living spaces at the same height, so lacked privacy. Though the curtains were acceptable for blackout lighting conditions, the street noise was terrible at times - I was awakened at 4am on a weekday morning to the sound of glass bottles clattering by the hundreds. The water in the shower runs very hot for several minutes and cannot be lowered to a temperature that does not scald, so you have to remember to begin running a shower or bath several minutes before you actually want to get in. The bath water won't drain fast enough to keep the tub from filling up if you run the bath spigot, so you have to remember to run only the shower or you risk scalding your feet when stepping into the shower. The elevators work well and provide security with a card reader required to go to your floor, but they are poorly lit and rather shabby looking. The lobby has a very nice gas fire running at all hours and the staff at the front desk are nice. The Nespresso in my room worked well and I was very pleased that the front desk would provide more pods. The negatives of this hotel far outweigh the positives, so even though it is closer to my work location I will try never to come here again. read more

Stayed here for two nights with my fiance after a 6.5 hour drive from New York. We were up since 3:30am and arrived in Montreal quite early, so we anxiously waited to check in to fit in a power nap before touring the city. About a half hour to 3pm (check-in time) we were informed that our room was ready, so we drove to St. Paul and found ourselves before a building that those who are fond of beautiful architecture like ourselves would admire. The lobby was dark, but contemporary, with bright purple seating that you can't miss. It also shares the same floor as the restaurant Hambar, where we had our last brunch. We checked in at the front desk with a friendly staff who also surprised us with news that our room was upgraded to a Penthouse room. We excitedly took the Gothic elevator up to the 10th floor and discovered the hotel's dark, spooky hallways, then walked into a decently sized room with high ceilings, classical music playing, and a huge window showcasing natural sunlight, with a view of nothing but another building just a few feet across. Despite the lacking view, we really enjoyed our stay. We never turned off the music and slept with it on because it was so calming. The room was extremely clean and chocolate was left on our bed every evening, which I devoured ofcourse. I also loved the deep tub, great water pressure and the overabundance of storage space. The bed was comfortable - my fiance didn't complain once about the mattress :). More importantly, the hotel was close proximity to all the attractions we planned to visit and was surrounded by great restaurants. We highly recommend St. Paul to anyone who plans to visit Montreal! read more

My home away from home Monday and Tuesday night was the St. Paul Hotel on Rue McGill. It is in Old Montreal and is formerly a Beaux-arts building which has been converted into a boutique hotel. There was a big pole as soon as I entered the room. The bed, though a double, was comfy. It was against the wall with the clock, etc. so I pushed it more towards the middle of the room. The soaker bathtub was awesome! The water temperature in the shower wasn't consistent ... it was scalding hot and then cold WIFI was complimentary ... there were times when it wasn't too speedy. There was a Keurig coffee machine, CD player, safety deposit box, ironing board and iron in the room. The staff were friendly. read more

Nothing was as described by website. Restaurants and bar were closed for renovation, no drinking water in room or available on property, breakfast inclusion in room was not provided, had a suite for up to 4 and only 2 bath towels provided, hotel general areas were so dark, including the elevators that it gave off a haunted house feel. Overall creepy. Decor was an attempt at eclectic, but it was administered in a very cheap and unfinished way. TV stand had been bashed in; pull out sofa had straps on both sides holding it together. Arrived and there was no reservation found even though we had a reservation directly through Marriott Bonvoy who this hotel was identified as associated with. They provided a suite, as we reserved, but when we saw the bill it was quite a bit more than we arranged. Valet was not working on the day that the car was needed so quite a wait was experienced. Rather than the planned 4 nights, - we only stayed at this hotel 1 night and relocated. read more

Our office is about a 20 minute walk from here. I love the boutique feel and amazing customer service that I always receive when I'm here! Rooms are generous in size and all quite modern in design. The only mild nit I have is that sometimes the rooms don't have well modulated air/HVAC. I'm a germaphobe and let's just say that the standards for cleanliness is great here. Rooms all come with a Keurig machine and complementary coffee/tea and two bottles of water. Amazing bar located on the ground floor. Cafe just next door. My recent business trip to Montreal was a treat as I was booked in a quaint boutique hotel, St. Paul in old town. If you do not care for Minimalism - then stop reading now. This hotel is done in mainly grey, white and black with dark rich wood tones. There is a striking splash of red however, like the 9 ft tall silk rose blossom topiary in the main lobby. The front door was huge, heavy and the suction of the heat inside competing with the frigid air outside drew you in quickly. The staff is quite generous in their attention to your queries, however their answers are matter of fact. For example - I asked where to locate the breakfast lounge and the answer was 2nd floor...no extras like where to go on the 2nd floor. The concierge service is quick to respond with questions prior to your visit, so use the service for restaurant and attractions info as well as assistance with any transportation needs. The room was bright, when you figured out you had to put a key card in the system mounted on the wall to make the electricity work! Well appointed in my opinion as the sheets were silky smooth and the coverlet had a faux fur throw with a sateen lining which was a nice touchy-feely addition to the matching bed width bolster. The pillows were down, but not too soft and not too hard (nod to Goldilocks). The bathroom was monochromatic themed gray tile all over with the exception of the soapstone sink. The faucets were wall mounted and gave a great new age feel to time spent brushing your teeth. There were two robes hung on hangers, on the widest wall in the bath and the arms were so sweetly intertwined. (yes, a huge awwww came out of my mouth when I saw it!) My final day was met with the challenge of an incoming winter snow storm and I arranged for a 6 am wake up which happened right on time. The desk clerk had pre-arranged a taxi for me at a preset time so I would have zero wait when I was ready. Here is something I've never experienced in a hotel's attention to their patrons (US, Europe, Australia included)...the morning desk clerk called me 20 min after my initial automated call to ensure I was up and about and to give me an update on the weather! Bravo Hotel St-Paul!! I anticipate a return to Montreal and hope that I am able to stay at this location again. This is a hotel in Old Montreal. The outside is a beautiful, old building. That's about the nicest part of this place. This place is awful. The photos on Expedia are not accurate. The halls are dark. The carpet in the hall leading into our room was stained. The hotel is run down and just not well kept. The rooms are minimalistic. Two drawers and 1/2 a closet to hang clothes. A safe blocks the rest from being usable. Warning: a Queen bed is NOT a queen bed. It's a double. My husband and I are skinny and we could not both sleep on our backs. We simply did not fit in the bed. Plus you roll into a hole in the middle! I asked the hotel if there were any king beds and they are sold out. I said this is not a queen. She explained it is, but they are smaller than a queen in the US. Note to self: get a king in Montreal! I informed the front desk that my shower curtain was installed improperly so it did not cover the entire shower, only half. This resulted in water everywhere. I also said our blinds do not stay open, and the coffee station had food crumbs everywhere and the cups were dirty. She did offer me a junior suite, but it has a "queen bed." I informed the staff we would be departing. I cannot recommend this hotel. I expect that items in my room are clean and in working order, at a minimum. There are much better options in Old Montreal for the same price. read more

This is our 3rd day staying here in Montreal at the St. Paul. We love it! Very, very quiet! Nice comfy bed, large bathroom with extra large tub, and a good sized counter for all of our clutter. The location is amazing, just within the historical boundaries of the old town wall, (which does not exist anymore). It took me awhile to find the breakfast area on the 2nd floor. I think that could be more clear. In our room on the 9th floor facing SE & Place D'Youville we have a lovely view towards the river. We also have windows you can open. Staff sent someone immediately we I called with a plumbing problem. Breakfast buffet is continental but really nice offerings including amazing cheese & cold cuts, two types of juice, etc. I would definitely stay here again For a good nights sleep and access to the old town sites. They say in their web site that the rent mobile phones, which they do not when I asked the front desk. They should update their web site regularly. read more

We had a fine stay here until our 2021 CR-V was stolen from the hotel parking lot across the street--in broad daylight. The theft was caught on the hotel security camera, but of course the vehicle has not been recovered. One employee said this was not the first time it had happened. Figuring out how to get home to Massachusetts was difficult, and while the hotel did accommodate the late checkout we asked for and tried unsuccessfully to help us find a rental car to get home, there was very little empathy or customer service. They would not agree to a price adjustment other than to remove the parking fee from our bill. (Thanks, since our car is no longer there!) Stay here if you like, but don't park here. read more

My room was actually great...I had a junior suite, but I do not understand the window treatments, at all. I know the picture doesn't do it justice, but why would you not just give me the option to have a dark room, vis-a-vis drapes? On two sunny days in March, it was bright by 7:00am, and I was on the sunrise side of the building. Good luck in the summer. This picture was at midnight, and it was annoying enough that I would ask about it for any other stay. Also, I am a pretty light sleeper, but any on/off of the HVAC caused the "shutters" to move and make a pretty loud noise against the frame. Truly, I cannot make any explanation for this, other than aesthetics?!! And yeah, in the stock photo from the hotel...I didn't have those drapes. read more

Very helpful and even tried to arrange hockey tickets for me (a bit too expensive, but I appreciate the effort). The room is very comfortable and has a nice view. The bed is super clean and comfy. Recently completed a weekend stay here that was slightly below expectations. First a minor issue: the hotel does not provide luggage racks, so you must keep your luggage on the floor or place it on the desk or other furniture. More disappointingly, during a fire alarm, the hotel staff provided no assistance or guidance to guests, which left a number standing outside in their bathrobes with no footwear and no information as to what was going on or when the incident had ended. Lastly though, I had checked some items with the porter after I checked out while going to brunch. The porter experienced some confusion and attempted to give half our bags away to another party. Being distracted by this I failed to notice that a small bag of souvenirs we had purchased was not returned to me. After contacting the hotel they assured me they would ship the item back, which they did. I was surprised to see however, that they gave the UPS store in Montreal by credit card information to charge for the shipment, as there was no charge disclosed to me, nor did I authorize the release of that information. I spoke with a manager, Olivea, about the incident, but he didn't feel that the hotel had any responsibility for returning the checked items properly and that the onus was on the guest. I was in Montreal for the weekend investigating hotels to use for a planned wedding there. Unfortunately the St. Paul will not be on that list. read more

Likes and dislikes. Liked the building, lighting, and mannerism of Valet and entrance gentleman. Super professional. Room was ok and details are provided below. Checkin was painful, checkout was smooth. 1 - Check-in had a new lady that was extremely slow and couldn't figure things out. You judge an hotel from the check in operation as well and it was unnecessary lengthy and painful. A senior staff member came in support and eventually figured it out quickly. Annoying. 2 - I provided my EU ID and my last name was input as the city where I am from. Which resulted in not being able to use their - weak - internet service because the password was meant to be the last name..and having to call reception a few times to figure out why the hell my access was restricted and internet was not working. 3 - Rooms are minimal chic. Nice, clean, modern, nothing impresses nor disappoints. 3 were major flaws for me: # Pillows are super thick. Would be nice to have option to have thinner pillows available. In all fairness, I did not ask. # Windows don't have blackout curtain. They have light blockers with slits that let light in. Prepare to be awaken at 5-6a if you are sensitive to light in the morning. I am and tried to fall back asleep by covering my face with a shirt. #AC sucks. Badly modulated. The only functions available are auto and off. You can not force the ac to stay on at all times. I have not seen this in higher end hotels and only in cheaper category hotels. It wouldn't be an issue IF the thermostat was working fine. However, it did not. The room was hot and cold all night and AC kicked in randomly and only once the room was steaming hot. 4 - No cafe on site. If you want a coffee during the day (we checked out at 11) you are sent to coffee shops out of the hotel. Not a big deal, but some people would think you can but a small coffee machine in the room or have a coffee station available. 5 - TV service. 90% of TV channels are French. If an International guest comes in, the availability of TV programs is limited. The above issues wouldn't be a big deal in a 2-3 star hotel. In a 4 star hotel, 400 dollars a night standard room, on the fancy end, are a big deal. read more

Our family stayed here for two nights in the Jr. suite. There were some pros and cons of this hotel, but overall we enjoyed our stay. Pros- it was a great location. We walked all over the old town and to the metro. There were lots of restaurants near by. We liked the set up of the Jr. suite. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel and the room clean and tidy. Cons- the bed was not a queen as advertised, it was a double. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable. There was no place to put our luggage. We would stay here again, but we would not stay in a room with a sofa bed. read more

My little family spent one Friday night here the weekend following C2. We treated ourselves to pumping AC, movies, in-room rosé and poutine delivery. It was exactly, exactly, exactly what the doctor ordered. Oui oui oui. It was a busy tourist week, so it was $300 and change for the night. A little steep, but this modern tower standing above the beautiful old town is definitely a gem. I was really excited about their restaurant, Hambar, because duh. It's named Hambar. We had some oysters there, and they were A OK. Alas, it's one of those joints that has limited hours, and very little service between meals. Kind of a bummer for a hotel of this price point, but overall, a very nice stay. read more

St. Paul was suggested to us by a friend in Montreal and I stayed there over the Labor day weekend. It's on McGill street close to the river front/harbor and at the edge of the old city. The building itself is fairly grand looking and at least during the weekend the street wasnt terribly busy or noisy. There are a bunch of cafe's restaurants very close by. We had our car so didnt depend on public transport but used the public bike system extensively and loved it. There is a bar/restaurant in the lobby that was VERY loud when we got in late night but in spite of our suite being on the 3rd floor right on top of the bar, we couldnt hear a thing (and i am very noise sensitive). As the previous review said, its done up in a very contemporary style, which i mostly like although some of the furniture in the bedroom seemed a bit Ikea'ish. The staff was very nice and like everyone else in Montreal, completely bi-lingual. They gave us a very good suggestion for brunch (a place down the street, Cortet) and I saw them giving others suggestions for dinner. In the room, they had 3 complementary water bottles and a medium sized box of chocolates and that was in addition to the nice weather report and chocolates left every night. We also had the free breakfast our last day there. Although it was fairly simple "continental" breakfast, everything was very fresh and attractively laid out. I wish the staff would come and serve the coffee/tea on the table though. The bread was delicious. The two things that can be improved. The room felt quite stuffy and you can't open the windows. It wasnt even hot outside. The AC fan didnt seem to come on. And my other issue was with the housekeeping. The bathroom wasnt, as my friend calls it, clean Swiss style (The dirty wash cloths were still in the tub). The room was cleaned well though. I'm going to start this off by saying that I love boutique hotels and usually go out of my way to stay in them rather than those big chains around the world. So, naturally, I was excited when hubby booked this for us as a weekend staycation for Valentine's. Situated on McGill College, this boutique hotel is at the edge of the Old Port in Montreal. Upon arrival, you are hit in the face with a funky vibe - cool couches adorn the lobby and the lighting is all kinds of mood. We checked into our Queen Superior Room and as soon as we walked in, I was confused by the mismatch in vibe between the cool lobby and the boring room. Extremely simplistic, the walls are completely bare with very few design elements in the room. Apart from this, we could tell right away that the Queen bed was basically a double (we have a Queen at home and this one was about 30cm smaller at least). We went back down to the lobby to ask if they maybe made a mistake but no, they insisted that this was a Queen and then offered to upgrade us for $35 a night which we refused. Apart from the bed, the view is basically a brick wall so we kept the blinds shut all weekend. Otherwise, the blackout curtains let light in from the top and bottom so we woke up as soon as the sun came up on both days we were there, the noise from the hallways not insulated and so we heard evverrryythinngg going on outside, and the TV literally froze up approximately every 5 minutes (bad streaming?) which was SO annoying. And last but not least, there are no ice machines in the hotel (which I've seen before but still get bothered by) so my overall feeling about Hotel St-Paul is UGH. Overall, for the $530 it cost to stay here for 2 days, I'm extremely disappointed. Cheap finishes, no view, and just annoying glitches throughout the weekend make this hotel one that I can't recommend. read more

Checked in yesterday, it was raining. There was no umbrella in the room, we went downstairs and all umbrellas were gone. This is the only 4 stars hotel I'd been to does not have enough umbrellas. When we ordered room service, they actually filled up the tips section by themselves before servicing, which is fine if the policy states a certain percentage will be charged, but no, a $39 item is charged $10 on top, which just a random percentage thrown by the server. My husband and I always try to stay in boutique hotels. Our experiences are usually pretty good. I am really underwhelmed by the St Paul. From the getgo, just going into the lobby, it seemed to me that it might have been real cool when it opened but it looked kind of tired now. The lobby, elevator and hallways are painted black and have very low lighting which is partly cool and partly obnoxious as is hard to navigate. There are some cool details but they are just slightly off... Like the chipped glass on my nightstand. The two towels (yes, two whole towels!) in the bathroom are motel 8 quality. There's very little storage in the room so we had to leave most of our stuff in our suitcases and stuff around the floor which always bothers me as I like to sleep in a tidy room (OCD much?). They only have queen size beds; another bummer. The staff is friendly, so that's a plus and we had a beer at the bar today with friends, we had the whole place to ourselves and that was very pleasant. I will probably not stay here again. Mostly because I'm a huge snob. If you are not then it's probably just fine. read more

The bathtub was huge, it was great to have a nice long soak at the end of the day. I also enjoyed the bath products that were available. There was a fashion shoot going on in the lobby during one day I was there which was slightly confusing to guests and disruptive/distracting to the front desk staff. Perhaps a warning/notification about the shoot would have been helpful. read more

A nice looking hotel on the edge of Old Montreal. The room was a nice size and had a comfortable bed. The room itself seems a bit dirty ( dusty size tables and floor) but I can easily overlook that. The bathroom could use a makeover but it has all you need. The staff was courteous, very nice and helpful when needed. There is an attached rest-bar named Hambar which is a scene where we had a cocktail before heading out. All and all an above average hotel but truthfully I might explore other options next time. read more

A very cute boutique hotel with a great location and just the right amount of character. The lobby downstairs is relatively small, but the fireplace is very cool. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are on the smaller side, but that's pretty typical for anywhere in the area. The floors are hardwood, which is fantastic and gives the place just the right feel. The beds are super comfortable, and the soaker tub is wonderful. The one knock I have about the room is it's not set up in the least for doing work. But the internet is quite fast. The workout facilities are on the smaller side, but if you're just looking for some cardio equipment you'll be just fine. I've stayed here many times and this is one of my favorite hotels to visit. read more

We stayed here two nights on a family vacation. Great location! We lived walking around the old port. We were also able to easily walk to the Jazz Festival. Not the most family friendly hotel. Some of the staff seemed annoyed at our kids presence. The valet was a hassle. The elevator barely fit our stroller. They didn't have a ramp or such to get the stroller from the sidewalk into the building. However, out room had a GREAT view and door separating the main bedroom from the space the kids slept. First of all lets set the expectation here. Its not a high end hotel, that being said it was perfect for what I was looking for. In a really great part of town.. near some amazing brunch places in walking distance. Rooms are quiet spacious, not sure why people are complaining about size. Clean, well appointed, VERY quiet and a nice modern minimalist feel. I really hate clutter and old looking hotels. Free wifi and they gave me a really late check out. I rarely love hotels. This place however is chic and low key. It is a reasonable price for a hotel in the old port. Beds are comfy, staff is friendly and helpful. I was really excited to stay here with my sister for two nights during Christmas but we both ended up being pretty underwhelmed. The building itself is beautiful. The decor in the lobby was very chic. The service wasn't fantastic but there was always a helpful receptionist available at the front desk to answer any questions. I upgraded our room to one of their "signature rooms" on the top floor but the room was pretty meh. The room was large and airy but also very plain, all white with no colour. The furniture was also plain and really cheap. We compared the furniture to Ikea quality. The beds are advertised as "Queen" but they were more like a double. We each had our own bed so this wasn't a problem for us, but I couldn't imagine trying to share this bed with another person. The mattresses and pillows, however, were super comfortable and we slept well. The large windows were really nice and the view was breathtaking. One of the big wooden blinds were broken but the issue was fixed quickly after mentioning it to the receptionist. The washroom was big and modern and the huge bathtub was great for a long soak and glass of wine. The price was pretty good for the area. Overall we had a nice stay but I don't think I'd come here again. read more

A great hotel experience in the low key area of Montreal. My boyfriend and I came here in the summer for our anniversary and we were so pleased with our stay. The room was clean and well kept, along with the bathroom. Windows were long and the bed was really comfy! It might have just been a quiet weekend in Montreal but the hotel seemed deserted-almost like nobody was around, but it was pleasant overall. There is a gym located in the downstairs which also provides complimentary fresh fruit and water. Definitely recommend this place for others! read more

Got a deal on the room which was awesome because it was about half off the price of the room so please keep that in mind. The location of the hotel was probably the best I've had while staying in Montreal ever, very close to great food and shopping also close to the marina. The room itself was awesome for the price that I paid for it maybe not so much for the full price even though the room itself was very nicely decorated and the windows were huge. The bathroom was very well done and a good size. The room itself wasn't huge but with 14 foot+ ceilings it made the room feel enormous. The exterior of the building was very nice as well. Upon walking in you will see that the lobby isn't huge but it is very comfortable for a boutique hotel again the decor was all nice arranged, very modern(which I like). The elevator and the hallways are very dimly lit which is fine for me but not great for a "business" trip. The bar was nice and completely packed friday night and saturday night which is great if you are staying there because you don't have to bear the cold to get a drink. All in all I would recommend staying there because of the location, the hip decor, the bar and the room itself was very nice. This place is for a young clientele. I almost forgot one of the best parts, the people here were awesome in every sense of the word. They helped us with cabs and how to avoid common traps with cabs, they helped plan our day of sightseeing and they helped us with a couple of meals for some foodies. The staff really was excellent and the best part was they mentioned to us marche atwater - a farmers market on the outskirts of town which had amazing croissants and awesome local produce. read more

Our suite is fantastic with corner views in two direction. The stark simple design could use a little updating but overall very nice. The bathroom in fantastic with everything you need. They staff is super helpful and gives great advice on what to do in the city. The restaurant is solid the the hood is fantastic with lots of fun places to drink, eat and shop. They valet which makes it easy and uber works well to get around town. read more
