I-4 Eastbound Rest Area, Polk City FL

This rest area between Tampa and Orlando gets it. Clean and bright and well lit. Airy and spacious with plenty of parking and a wide open entrance. Restroom was well lit and clean though the hand dryer could have used a bunch more "oomph" to dry my hands. Several spots for picnic. Lots of parking spaces for bigger vehicles too. There is another rest area on the other side of the highway for westbound traffic. I was there two years ago: https://www.yelp.com/biz/mile-marker-47-rest-area-polk-city?hrid=zqXo3FzSHhJwgCUzi-9kqQ [Review 12785 overall, 99 of 2020.]

Very lovely for a rest stop. Lots of toilet stalls that are clean with really soft toilet paper...I know, right? Who expects really soft luxurious toilet paper at a rest area? Well I guess anyone who has been here! They also have shady picnic areas, water fountains and a nice pet park so your pooches can sniff 'n stretch to their heart's content. There are lots of parking spaces and vending machines so you can grab a snack and use the facilities and most importantly experience the uber soft bathroom tissues therein supplied. I'd give it 5 stars but it was hot and muggy in the Women's restroom which was indeed quite clean but had older model hand dryers which probably raised the temperature in the room. Treat your bum and your pup to a clean and comfy stop on I-4.

This Rest Area was clean and well appointed. They have plenty of disabled and regular parking on one side and a separate area for trucks. There were plenty of facilities so even during a busy time there will be little to no wait. The vending area had lots of choices. I love that I can purchase without money. I rarely have cash with me so this was a great find. (I clearly need to get out more---) Convenience - plus Cleanliness - plus Safety - plus

    Beautifully tiled!

This is a notable rest stop for several reasons: 1) Good stopping point if you're heading east toward Orlando because shortly after this stop, Disney traffic can become horrific. You do not want to hold it and take the chance, trust me 2) Very beautiful and clean bathrooms! I was surprised to see beautiful new dark tiling throughout. The toilets look like they belong in a jail cell, but they are clean! 3) Nice gardening outside and plenty of parking There aren't any shops or informational staff on hand so everything is self service. There are a few vending machines if you need a quick snack. Overall, a very pleasant spot to stop.

If I'm eastbound on I-10 it usually means I'm heading home so this rest area is a welcoming sight, it's a great opportunity to pull over and stretch your legs, throw out the coffee cups and visit the restrooms. Like most have stated the restrooms here are extremely clean and it looks like the renovations helped mitigate the filth, the construction materials adopted can be power-washed from floor to ceiling as are the stainless and porcelain fixtures. The amenities are pretty good as far as rest areas go but I will say the lighting is poor - I understand the truckers need to sleep as do the travelers who need a short nap, but after the sunsets it gets pretty dark here. Hasn't it been established decades ago crime decreases in well lit areas, the walk to the facilities is pretty daunting because of the lack of lighting and the presence of many obstacles for those with bad intentions to hide behind - you gotta love the concealed carry laws in Florida click click...

    Payphone.

Pretty nice and new rest stop. The toilets are weird because they are metal. Clean floor and the tile was nice to look at whilst doing the businesses. The sinks are push to start which I'm thankful for because them dang sensor sinks never seem to find my hands I swear. There is actually a payphone at the rest stop to my surprise and it friggin works so way to go on that. There are many snack machines including ice cream but I didn't get any. Thought about it but my thighs said no thanks. All in all it was a great experience.

It is right off the interstate, is located near Polk City, and is open 24/7, providing essential amenities such as clean restrooms, vending machines, and Wi-Fi. The rest area seems to prioritize accessibility with handicap-friendly facilities, family restrooms, and nighttime security to ensure safety. Parking is plentiful, accommodating both cars and larger vehicles like RVs and trucks. This rest area is noted for its cleanliness and the calming atmosphere, making it suitable for more than just a pit stop. It is an excellent spot for relaxing, meditating, or taking a short break to recharge. The surrounding natural environment also offers opportunities for photography, with some visitors even spotting sandhill cranes and other local wildlife. For those exploring creative projects like filming or capturing scenic shots, the peaceful environment and well-kept surroundings are a bonus. Travelers have consistently rated this rest area highly for its upkeep and amenities, making it one of the better options along the I-4 corridor for a comfortable and safe stop. The rest rooms were some of the nicest ones that I have seen in any rest stop. Overall, it is a nice place to stop if you need a break on the drive.

I stopped at this location because I needed a pick me up and saw there was a Dunkin. There was plenty of parking, and the location was easy to access. The only thing I didn't like was the ordering process. When I went inside, I thought you had to order from the kiosk because no one greeted me or explained the process. Since it was my first time at this location, I used the kiosk. Unfortunately, you can't use the Dunkin Rewards app when ordering that way, so I wasn't able to earn points on my purchase, which was disappointing. I ordered an iced coffee for about $7, and it didn't take long to be prepared. My name was called at the pickup counter when it was ready, and my order was correct. Since I was on a road trip, I also used the restrooms. They were clean and well maintained, which is always something I appreciate during long drives. This is a convenient stop on the Florida Turnpike. It's easy to get in and out, has plenty of parking, clean restrooms, and is a great place to grab a coffee or a quick bite before getting back on the road.

Nothing about it feels particularly stocked, interesting, or worth browsing. Grab what you need and keep moving. The food from Nathan's somehow manages to be less than average, which is impressive considering highway rest stop expectations are already pretty low. The bathrooms also consistently look like they are one missed shift away from becoming a health department documentary. Not catastrophic, but definitely not clean enough to inspire confidence. This place serves a purpose and that purpose is existing between exits. That's about the nicest thing I can say. Two stars.

I stopped in during an extremely busy time of the day but still managed to find a parking space within a reasonable distance from the front entrance. The interior was chaotic, it's seems everyone in Florida decided to have lunch here at the same time - well to say the least it was busy and a bit in disarray. I decided to headed to the Wendy's counter where I was met by Natasha and a big smile she took my order then my money and kept me company while my sandwiches were being prepared. After a little more than a few minutes my bounty arrived hot and fresh - my double cheeseburger was still hot and so delicious, this may have been the best Wendy's sandwich I've ever had bar none, even taking into consideration I was famished this Turkey Lake Service Plaza Wendy's Burger was just what I needed - I think Dave Thomas is probably looking down smiling and his infamous daughter Melinda Lou "Wendy" Thomas-Morse is still breaking the bank. The Turkey Lake rest stop has both north and south bound entrances. It is named after nearby Turkey lake which contains Bill Frederick Park. Food options here include vending machines, Dunkin Donuts, KFC, Nathans, Nature's Table, Villa Pizza, and Wendy's. There is the typical Sunshine market where you can pick up your sundries. Of course there are restrooms which is why you likely stopped as well as a picnic area. You can stock up on your tourist brochures which every kid likes to do in anticipation of fun destinations on a road trip. There is also expensive gas to refuel your vehicle. Normally I prefer a turnpike rest area to the ones on I-95. The reason for my one star is they don't require masks even though there are recommendations to wear one on the door. How can you not require masks at a place that has people coming through from all parts of Florida? I would like to note that the workers inside are wearing masks. Every day the number of cases of Covid is rising in Florida as is the death rate. It was upsetting to see hardly anyone walking in with a mask. No thanks. I don't want to be standing next to other non mask wearing people in the tight confines of the bathroom. Shame on the transportation authorities for not requiring masks for people entering the building. The more open plans of the I-95 bathroom rest areas is a better bet right now. The only turkeys I saw here today were the selfish non mask wearing people. Let's get it together Florida because it is going to take all of us.

Personally,…read moreI'm always happy when a rest area comes up when I need it or someone traveling with me needs it. No rest area is perfect. The cleaning and/or maintenance staff has a thankless job. As soon as the staff cleans it, or even while they are cleaning it, people just make a mess. Plus, no one can be there 24/7. People should really take better care and mind what they do...and be mindful of what they leave behind for staff "to do" because they didn't care, didn't pick up or clean up after themselves, were lazy, or just nasty. That said, sure...there were a few pieces of paper on the floor, and someone dropped a tissue, but it's not reason enough to call the place filthy. The important part is the facilities themselves were clean and stocked with toilet paper and soap. Isn't that what really matters? Moreover, the entry area was clean and tidy and the picnic area looked well-maintained. There is a family restroom located in front for your convenience if needed. The snack/vending area seems ample as well. Of course, there is plenty of parking, truck parking, and a pet relief area. If I have an issue with anything it is the quirky way you enter into this particular rest area...the road pattern is just strange. Please be advised, there aren't any tourist brochures at this location. This is basically a no-frills rest area and all business (if you know what I mean). At the end of the day, shouldn't we all be happy it's here? After all, sometimes nature calls when we least expect it!

The vending machines work. Litter is picked up. What is really concerning is that the surrounding area has been under construction for quite a while now. When you first pull in, you cannot park on the "safe" side away from the interstate, you have to drive all the way around and park on the side where everything is torn up. You have to be very careful because there are very few to no safety barriers up in some areas and in bad weather, you could end up in a very deep ditch.
