I was in the area visiting family and wanted to grab some coffee before the road trip home to South Florida. A local business is better than a Starbucks. Bonus is it's my favorite bakery in Orlando so I'm here for it. This Light on the Sugar is located next to the Regal Cinemas in Waterford Lakes. Squished between Charley's Philly Cheesesteaks and Zen Dumplings. What I dislike about this location is the wooden gazebo they built directly in front of these stores. It totally hides the name of the stores and it's not appealing. This made it hard to find too. They should honestly get rid of the gazebos, these poor stores may be losing potential business because people can't locate it. This bakery is the smallest one compared to the original two locations I've been to. It's ok because they still sell most of the same items, just less of a selection due to limited space. They offer the popular cream puffs, pastries, tarts, merch and drinks. On this particular day, I only got the Pistachio Latte and an Americano. My husband likes a good simple coffee with no bells and whistles. The other stuff is too much for him. Ha. I really debated getting pastries for the road but I was just at the Winter Park location yesterday and got an assortment so I was good on pastries. My Pistachio Latte was good, but it was a tad on the sweet sweeter side. I had my husband mix some of his Americano with my latte so it balanced out a little bit more for both of us. I've been making them for 25 years and have never had an issue with heating chocolate melts like this, in a Pyrex dish on a double boiler on low. Well, this chocolate never got past the point of a peanut butter consistency. I let it cool and put it back in the bag to take back to this business. Annette herself came out and told me I did something to cause it to seize. I explained that I didn't, because I know how to melt chocolate as I've been doing it for 25 years. My mom for 35-40. We know how to work with chocolate. She wanted to demonstrate how to melt it for me (again, already know how, there is not time to stop and microwave small amounts of chocolate for 30 seconds and then stand there stirring it in a cup every few mins when you're mass producing homemade turtles. I acknowledged that she was able to melt it that way, but explained I was displeased with the product and wanted a refund. She smirked at me!! She stated she could never provide a refund as the health department wouldn't allow product to be returned to the store. Nobody said anything about returning it, throw it away!! I would hope to God she wouldn't resell it to someone! I'll throw it away, I'll whip it out into the field next to your business. I don't want it because it's not good product. I just asked for a refund so I could go buy some good chocolate to use. She is obviously not worried about making sure her customers are happy, because she wasn't worried about losing me as a customer. I will NEVER go back to this business. I got their limited edition banana Nutella cake. Where's the banana taste? It was completely missing. It maybe had a mist of banana but if this was a blind taste test, I would have failed. The cake was vanilla with chocolate (Nutella) drizzled on top. It had a filling of Nutella as well. I wouldn't get this flavor again. On the other hand, the cake was moist and tasty. Did you know this store sells non-food gifts as well? I was shocked. You could easily grab a cake and a non-food gift all at the same place.
