I recently needed a cake, last minute, for my sister's graduation from medical school! I decided to go with Sofelle Cake Artistry because she had nothing but 5 star reviews on google reviews and the wedding websites and everyone seemed pretty satisfied with the flavor. I discussed with Lucy and put my order in for my rather large one tier cake on a Monday, confirmed and paid for that night, and picked it up on a Thursday morning. I don't know many cake artists who would have put up with me! Let's talk flavor: I live in Miami and I was not able to come in to pick flavors so I read the reviews, and decided to go with the Vanilla Cake, Dulce de Leche, and butterscotch buttercream purely on a whim even though the Champaign Raspberry seemed to be the most popular review. I am pleased to report that it was AMAZING!! The buttercream was soooooooo smooth and the butterscotch wasn't over powering, just delicate enough to let the dulce shine and marry with the soft and delightful vanilla cake. It was truly delicious! Even the fondant was yummy and I NEVER eat the fondant. The design was perfect! She gave me some options and we tweaked them and she delivered!!!!! The party was a hit and so was the cake. My sister received many compliments on her Instagram about how "bomb" her cakes looked. It tasted bomb too. Lucy is SO sweet and such a pleasure to work with!! I would recommend her without reservation to anyone, and I am a VERY difficult person to please when it comes to food. Chef Lucy offers classes at D&G occasions and this review is regarding that experience: I took the "Introduction to Cake Decorating" course which was pretty intimate with only 7 students and chef Lucy as the instructor so I felt you get plenty of time with her one-on-one to ask questions and get help. There was a mix of people who have never even iced or baked a cake before (me) and people who have started their own cake businesses on the side (most of the others). What I loved is that you get step by step instruction, a demonstration before starting on your own, and troubleshooting pointers which is so useful for when you're back home and face issues (I'll prob just stick to baking in class though). Chef Lucy is so sweet and so patient (honestly having to repeat yourself so many times would drive me insane so I commend her). I would recommend this class to anyone! I had a great time even though I am not a professional and I plan on taking more classes with Chef Lucy in the future just because of how well she taught and how she seems to love what she does. One person in our class flew here from Turks and Caicos just to take a class taught by Chef Lucy, if that's any inclination toward how great she is! Lucy was very personable throughout our meetings prior to the day of the wedding. Her energy made planning a wedding more exciting. I was dreading having to plan a wedding for an expected 600+ guests and didn't care much for a cake. That had changed after our first consultation meeting/ cake tasting! We decided to go with Lucy from a recommendation from another cake designer who was busy on our wedding date. After emailing her and discussing our dream cake, we met with her. She presented us with different flavors and toppings in the cutest little box. We knew we wanted to go with Lucy because of the presentation, her ideas, and her portfolio. My daughter eloped and got married on a mountain top in Vail, Colorado. Five months later when we held the formal ceremony and reception, Lucy helped create their unique wedding cake.
